  • Why are you paying attention to what other people wear? It's reasons like this that keep some of us from going to the gym. Aren't you there to do your own workout? Does it help your workout to critique others? Give the guy credit for being there and doing something and then worry about yourself.
  • This is the ONLY way I do it. I'm not about specific diet plans because I want this to be LONG TERM weight loss. I plan on keeping it off because when I get to maintenance I won't be all "YAY Now I can eat whatever I want!!!" because I have been eating what I want...in moderation. OR exercising to eat more food. Yep, I…
  • I suspect that you have just hit an early plateau. Your body is trying to figure out what is going on. Just do exactly what you have already done - re-evaluate what you are doing and adjust it. Stick with it and you will find the weight loss happens eventually. It also gets easier to eat healthier and staying within daily…
  • I swear I don’t know how you ladies keep up with everyone’s posts  :) Grandmallie – DH will figure out the exercise when it becomes important to him. I was in his shoes for many years. My alarm goes off at 3:30, leave for work by 5:30, home about 6 or 7 at night. Where do I find time for exercise? Well, when it became…
  • A beautiful good morning to everyone! Today is perfect weather. I enjoy a beautiful sunrise in my face as I drive to work :) Speaking of work, it has been very stressful lately. Yesterday had me in tears a couple of times out of sheer frustration. But I ended the day on a positive note. On the way home I found myself…
  • Pat, A fellow Arizonan! Whoo Hoo! Buckeye is just west of Phoenix. I work in downtown phoenix and it is about a 35 mile drive one way.
  • Hi! I may have finally found a place where I can feel like I belong - in this group. I have been on mfp off and on for a while now. I have been battling my weight for a long time, but my husband passed away in 2008 and I have managed to gain a lot of weight since then. You know the drill, lose a few and gain even more…
  • I am inspired! I am not 63 yet, but now I see that it is possible at any age and I think I am going to use you as my inspiration. Good Job!
  • I am a lot like you in that I tend to want to do it all asap - full speed. I have just about as much weight to lose as you, and I am a smoker. I quit smoking at the same time I started with weight loss. Big mistake. I ended up gaining weight instead of losing. It was just too much at once and I found I was snacking all the…
  • Some people don't need arch support and it makes the problem worse.
  • Heel spurs and plantar facitis are the same thing. I had that for a very long time. You have been given good advice by others. I got ONE shot and swore NEVER to do that again! LOTS of stretching, wear tennis shoes all the time. No going barefoot - even at home. Ice the feet for 20 min 3 times a day. Do NOT use a treadmill.…
  • Yes you did just spend an hour working way too hard for no cardio gain/
  • I have done weight watchers several times in my life. It is a very healthy program, but I just couldn't quite get with it. I didn't like having to carry around books to tell me how many points everything was. It was a whole lot of work. I am finding better success with just using MFP.
  • Hang in there. You are doing some good things. Make sure you weight & measure your food initially. Don't eyeball it. You will be surprised. Plus make sure you log everything. It truly IS an eye opener.
  • I agree with previous posts. Losing slowly is much better than fast. Although I would LOVE to get it over with quickly :) Also it looks to me like you aren't eating enough food. Make sure you get at LEAST that 1200 calories a day. Then add some on for your exercise.
  • It depends on your activity level without exercise and on how much you say you want to lose per week. Mine is currently 1200 per day. It really isn't too bad and isn't as hard to stay with as I thought it would be.
  • You are Awesome! My sister is on steroids. She has cracked both hips without even trying. Not sure now if she can have any children. She isn't that old. You are awesome because you are controlling your weight. You are awesome because you haven't let this stop you from living. You are just plain amazing!
  • I have a sister with Addisons. She almost died from it. Literally. I thank God it was finally diagnosed. She IS on medication. It certainly makes life difficult. Hard to exercise with those symptoms. She has to be very careful about over stressing her body and often has to adjust her medication to compensate for simple…
  • I am right there with you. Feel free to add me as a friend. I am on 1200 to 1300 calories a day. It can be very tough to get used to. I eat lots of veggies and I weigh my meats. Getting used to a REAL portion is the toughest. I found I must fix my own meals - no eating out. And I have to stay away from pasta and bread -…
  • I love the bracelet idea. I might have to try that.
  • I don't worry about going under 150 or so. I figure that since some of the calories are my best guess - especially with exercise - then I could have underestimated by 150 or 200 calories. Now if I am under 500 calories or more then I worry. Yes, believe it or not, I have managed to do that a few times. Oh, and I NEVER…
  • Awesome! I can't wait for that to be me someday! Keep up the good work.
  • Welcome! I turn 53 in a month and i have a lot of weight to lose. I have done this a couple of times in my life - lost the weight and regained. I can tell you it is way harder now than in my 30's. Part of it is because I mentally go back and forth between wanting to lose the weight & feel better and then again, I am kind…
  • Cheese is a lovely healthy food item. It is only BAD or EVIL if you can't control the portions or if it does not fit into your calories/numbers.
  • Why worry about hiding the treadmill? Why not be proud that it is there to be used frequently? I feel that in this day and age more people include healthy living as part of the lifestyle and decor - as long as it isn't cluttered and dirty. Now if you aren't using it then THERE is a reason to hide it.
  • You can do it! Start by at least logging in to mfp daily. Start by trying to honestly log what you are eating. Yes you can cheat the computer, but that little voice in your head will help to get you back on track.
  • As a person who is rapidly reaching 55, I can say that yes it IS possible. Losing weight for those of us with a lot to lose is always difficult anyway. Motivation is tough to keep up. AND the older we get the harder it is to lose. My DR had told me that a long time ago and of course I didn't listen. So here I am. I have…
  • Awesome! Thank You for sharing your story. I would LOVE to be able to do the same weight loss in such a short amount of time. You are now my new inspiration.
  • Oooo tough one. First and foremost would be to ask your DR what you are allowed to do. I have a foot injury which severely limits my exercise. I am just trying to find any kind of exercise activity that I can do without hurting my foot more. Sit ups, weight bearing exercises for my arms, some yoga. Without knowing exactly…
