  • I'm 27 weeks with my first baby and I finally started REALLY showing at about 18 weeks. Up until then I just looked portly and none of my clothes fit. Like tcrofford said, I also had a belly growth spurt about 3 weeks ago and went from still looking not so much pregnant as chubby to unequivocally PREGNANT.
  • It takes a little practice and it's important to make those "mistakes" at the beginning so that you can get to know how many calories things are. The important part is that you are here and you're ready to do the work. Congrats on your first day!
  • Well I had a good six weeks of feeling rather normal but now I'm also exhausted. I'm 26 weeks along and I thought I would have a little more time before the exhaustion set in. I had to take a half day of vacation because I was so tired this morning. My belly has also grown by leaps and bounds in the past couple of weeks…
  • I also LOVE salt. Lemon is a great substitute and hot sauce gives that salty taste too. But be careful with hot sauce because some hot sauce has a lot of sodium. Another way to control your sodium intake is to rinse all canned goods (like tomatoes and beans) and don't add salt when you won't taste it, like before you make…
  • Welcome! I am 26 weeks. You've found a great group here!
  • It shouldn't be possible to get sick while pregnant. I've had two colds that have knocked me on my butt while I've been pregnant. I could take cough syrup (just plain) and sudafed. And I slept a lot, on the couch, pretty much sitting up because I was coughing so badly. I would definitely just drink some hot tea with honey…
  • I bought some men's long T Shirts and some full panel workout pants. I didn't really need them until I got halfway through my second trimster though. They are more comfortable and they don't constrict as much on my bladder, which is a plus.
  • Before I got pregnant, I really thought that I was going to be okay with gaining weight when I was pregnant because I know that it's healthy and that it's not permanent. Then the weight started coming on. I am 24 weeks and at my last appointment, 2 weeks ago, I had gained 18 lbs at 22 weeks. According to my doctor, I…
  • Feel free to add me! I'm due in March with my first. BTW, I forget how far along I am until I see due dates in June and I remember I will have a 3 month old by then. Congratulations everyone!
  • I completely understand this one. I'm pregnant and so everyone thinks they should be fattening me up and everyone thinks I'm justified in overeating because I'm pregnant. I'm not very good at this but I think it's best to eat proactively and not be hungry when the sweets and homebaked goods show up. One of my co-workers is…
  • I was doing well with my weight gain and then I got sick with a terrible cold a couple of weeks ago and I didn't log my food and I drank a TON of juice to get the extra vitmamin C and now I'm really only supposed to gain about 7 lbs more for the rest of my pregnancy. And I'm 23 weeks. My doctor's goal is 20-25 lbs and I've…
  • This is my first baby but I felt her to start moving at almost 18 weeks. I'm 23 weeks now and she's starting to kick pretty hard.
  • I've always been scatterbrained but it's reached new levels during pregnancy. I have gone to the bank to cash a check and then forgotten the check at the office. I have forgotten how to run reports I've done a hundred times before. I forget very basic things for my job like what to say when I pick up the phone. I have…
  • Congratulations! I'm also having a girl and this is my first baby. Wow, you are doing great with your workouts! My exercise has been sporadic but I'm trying. :ohwell: Anyway, congrats on your little girl and it sounds like she's going to be close in age to your older boys. Take care!
  • That is a really good point. It's probably as sensitive a topic for doctor's as it is for mom's. And you do run into a lot of emotional aspects of body image. I've always been very comfortable with my body image, but pregnancy is challenging my high self-esteem. Too much weight gain is bad for the baby as well as the mommy…
  • That's a great blog post! It's kind of amazing that in addition to all the things that we have to worry about while pregnant we also have to make sure that we gain just the right amount of weight. Weight gain was brought up for the first time yesterday at my OB appointment. I was finally given a guideline on how much…
  • Congratulations! We were convinced we were having a boy but we're having a girl. We kind of had to start over with names but it's been really fun to think of girls names. I have a relatively uncommon name (Alexandra) so I'm a fan of old-fashioned but easy to pronounce names. Congrats again!
  • Is it lower pelvis like right above your public bone or is it generalized? It could be ligament pain if it's along the side of your pelvic girdle. I did a lot of lifting and carrying of light items one day and the next day I was SO sore with ligament pain. I had a UTI as well and that came with pretty bad pelvic pain but I…
  • Well we found out on Wednesday that it's a girl! It's so funny: up until last week, I was sure it was a boy. Then all of the sudden I changed my mind and decided that it was a girl. Then I was convinced that I was just wrong and that it was a boy. Very happy, but all of the sudden it feels very real. I have a daughter on…
  • I eat about 2000-2300 calories a day and I'm 20 weeks. I've gained about 12 lbs so far. I'm 5'8" and I was 164 lbs before I got pregnant, so I was just on the border of overweight when I got pregnant. I hope to maintain the steady weight gain as I get further along. Good luck and try not to worry too much. Your body will…
  • Just thought I'd check in and see how you ladies are doing. I've actually been able to exercise 3 times a week for the past few weeks! And I've been taking walks and working in the baby's room, which I'm totally counting as exercise as well. It's been weird to shift my mindset from working out to burn calories to working…
  • Congratulations! I was thinking that we might want to wait to find out the sex as well but it's going to be a decision I make on the day I think. Is anyone stil really tired? I have been fatigued all week and the baby books keep telling me I'm supposed to have all this energy and stamina but I think they're lying to me. I…
  • Mine has actually just started doing P90X and I think he's lost about 3-4 inches off his waist. I think it's fantastic that he's finally sticking to an exercise program. On another note, he works as an ER nurse and his co-workers have told him that he should be gaining weight right along with me because "I shouldn't be…
  • I completely lost my appetite during the 1st trimester. I had nausea but no vomiting but food just sounded generally awful to me. I ate a lot of fruit, especially nectarines and cantelope, and drank a lot of water and I just ate pretty bland food. I ate crackers and I was lucky that I could keep down whole foods like rice…
  • I finally figured out a doctor approved drug cocktail of sudafed, tylenol, and a coke. I hate having to take medicine but it was interfering with work to the point that I had to take a day off after a migraine. We're able to find out the sex on the 17th and I'm still on the fence about whether I want to know or not. I kind…
  • Got my exercise in today! I worked out on my lunch break, which I might do more often because it gives me more energy in the afternoon. I'm also usually so tired by the end of the work day that it's too easy for me to just not workout. Here's to working out tomorrow!
  • I was going to start this group if no one else would! I'm due in March and we haven't found out yet what we're having. This is my first and I'm trying to enjoy the quiet time while I can. My fitness regime has been rather lame lately because of the fatigue and I've been getting some awful sinus headaches that I finally…
  • The best advice I read for exercise is to think of your heartrate on a scale of 1-10. When you're pregnant, you want to keep it at about 3-5. For me that's around 140-145, which is the number that they sometimes give. I'm still working out but my workouts have gotten pretty half-assed and I REALLY miss that exhaustion I…
  • I told family almost immediately at 5 weeks and then I told my boss at 9 weeks, and the rest of my co-workers at 11 weeks. It was SO HARD to not tell people but I felt like I was going to jinx myself if I told any sooner. Congratulations!
  • I took Tussin DM for the cough; your doctor should be able to tell you which cough syrup you're allowed to take. And get as much rest as you can! Being sick while pregnant SUCKS. Feel better!
