Candida, mold exposure, Sinus problems, leaky gut, experiences or wisdom?
I have been on and off the LCHF wagon again lately, carb creep. About a month ago I came down with what I thought was a raging sinus infection, kind of out of nowhere. Terrible tight throat (but not sore), post sinus drip that was just clogging my throat and making me cough and the phlegm would not come up, lost my voice…

Another convert
About 4 months ago, my SO was telling his sister all about how he lost weight and what health improvements he has seen, how good he feels, etc. He told her "the sugar will kill you" basically. He didn't hear any more about it from her, but then yesterday she posted on Facebook that thanks to his advice, she has lost 20…

carbage creep
True confessions of carbage creep..... Summer time has always been harder for me because we go out a lot more and I don't take the time to exercise. Time to get a handle on it, log and exercise regularly. That is all, thank you. :)

Update Thyroid tests, etc
About 6-8 weeks ago I posted that I was having tests because of hair loss & fatigue, etc. All my blood work came back normal. What I discovered though when I returned to work after vacation is the fatigue and headaches were being caused by the lighting in my office. The hair loss was probably due to stress/trauma from a…

Thyroid Tests
I know several of you have mentioned that you have thyroid issues. A few things have happened that are making me wonder if I'm having a thyroid problem. Symptoms: Unusual amount of hair loss, feel hot or cold a lot, low body temperature (95.5° F when I used to have a 98-ish temperature in the past). I have scheduled a…

She said "choose lower fat meats". As if. This message has been brought to you by bacon.

ACV for Candida? (ladies especially)
So, my Christmas splurge on candy and carbs seems to have allowed the candida to get out of control and now I'm really regretting it. I have read that apple cider vinegar is good for prevention, but is it strong enough and fast enough to knock out an infection, or should I just go right for the Monistat?

GERD
My (adult) son has been having problems with almost constant burping. Regular doctor put him on a muscle relaxer which helped somewhat, while he waited on an appointment with a specialist. Specialist did a scope this week and said acid reflux, and also took biopsies, waiting on results. Prescribed medication for the…

Numbers Improved
At work they offer an incentive to have a biometric screening done. These are my numbers today compared to what they were a year and a half ago at my last screening. Have been eating LC (but not extremely LC) for 5 months. BMI: 24.4 (was 25.5) Heart Rate: 60 (was 68) Blood Pressure: 110/70 (was 122/80) Total Cholesterol:…

Ladies, on self-confidence
Here is a good discussion on how to break old thought patterns and get on the path to building self confidence with your body image. The woman in the interview looks very fit now, but lost 100 pounds. The woman interviewing her dealt with body image issues her whole life which resulted in disordered eating.…

There is a first time for everything
I kept hearing about this "not hungry at all and have to almost force yourself to eat" thing. And I just could never really understand that. Certainly I had been *less* hungry with this woe, but unless I was ill or something I never experienced the can't eat thing. Well yesterday it happened. I had my usual coffee and then…

Love affair gone bad
So, my life long love affair with ice cream seems to be over. I was a total ice cream hound. I would have three or four 1.5 quart cartons of different flavors in the freezer at any given time. I would eat it for breakfast or any time of the day. Usually daily. Wednesday, I had a lunch out for work and didn't plan ahead…

Fitness Coach Small Habit Change, Higher Fat
From a website I follow: "Earlier this week, we asked several of our favorite fitness professionals to to tell us the smallest habit change that has had the biggest impact on their health, physique, and life." Jessie Mundell: "Food used to be something that was entirely too time-consuming for me. The change that helped me…

closet cauliflower convert
So, I was never a big fan of cauliflower. It just sort of tasted like nothing to me. And it used to annoy me to see all of these cauliflower substitutes for different things. I have even friended people on MFP over a mutual dislike of cauliflower. But now after trying a couple of different recipes I have to concede that…

Food Processors
I realized the other day that my life might be incomplete because I don't have a food processor (something about trying to stuff cauliflower in a blender..... ) Tell me, what do you make with yours, what kind do you have, is it a large capacity one, or a smaller one. What do you like or not like about it?

Skin moles, skin tags
I had 3 skin moles, two on my belly which have been there about as long as I can remember, and one on my neck which appeared in the last 10 years or so. Within a month after starting LC one on my belly started feeling irritated, and got a bubble in it like a zit. I pinched it and for about a week it was irritated and…

Visceral Fat
Something was mentioned in passing in another thread about this WOE being effective for reducing visceral fat. I'm interested in learning more about this, studies (in layman's terms), anectdotes, etc. I used the search on the forum and didn't come up with anything useful. My biggest "trouble spot" is my belly. I am…

Where to buy Xylitol?
I have been reading a lot of recipes and many of them call for Xylitol. I have not seen this in stores, or maybe I'm not looking in the right place? I made low carb pizza crust last night and the recipe called for it, and I just used a packet of stevia instead.

My breakfast
I was going to have bacon and eggs but didn't have any eggs. So breakfast was cucumber slices slathered with cream cheese with bacon on top. And one large strawberry with whipped cream. I'm almost glad I was out of eggs, because that was great.

Hives?
This week I have been lowering carbs to less than 100 g per day, landing about 60-90. I have not added any new foods that I don't eat regularly. I'm not allergic to anything. Yesterday I started breaking out in hives on my face and neck, around one eye and on the front of my neck and under the chin. Anyone know if this…

Many Questions
My significant other was told by his doctor that he should do an Atkins type diet to lose weight. He has asked me to help him with shopping lists and meal plans. He likely isn't going to count calories or carbs (and I don't know when I will find time to count them for him.....lol) but I am trying to get some guidelines…

Thoughts on macros - what is the result of too much fat?
I'd like thoughts on the topic of macros being out of balance. I am set to eat 1800 calories, 40/30/30 carbs/fat/protein. I lift heavy 3x per week, and walk 30 minutes at 4 mph usually 2x or 3x per week. I eat usually under on the carbs, over on fat, and under on protein. With the reports feature here I can't figure out…

Taking a 3 week break between Stage 1 & 2?
I am reading the book and want to begin Stage 1 this weekend. But in mid-March I am going on a 3 week vacation. I have just enough time to do Stage 1 before I go, but my question is, would I have to go back and repeat some of Stage 1 before going into Stage 2? Perhaps the book answers this and I haven't read that far yet.

Can't Stop Eating? Leptin Hormones
In the time I have been on MFP, more than a year, I have heard a bit about the different hormones that affect hunger and weight loss. Leptin, Ghrelin and Cortisol. But here is a personal experience that really brought this to the forefront for me. Over the holidays, I was consuming a lot more high fructose corn syrup than…
