Need help calculating... and some ideas.
I have lost 15 lbs in the past 8 weeks and I am very, very proud of what I've accomplished! I am medically unable to "work out". I set a goal a few weeks back to lose a total of 30 lbs by April 15th. That means that I would need to lose a total of 15 lbs more in the next 6 weeks. I currently eat 1480 (ish) calories a day…

Veggie Side Dishes
I have a picky eater in my family... there are a select few vegetable that he likes and only a few more that he'll tolerate I'd put them on his plate and demand he eat them - but well, he's a grown man... he's my husband. He likes broccoli, green beans, peas, swiss chard, carrots, potatoes, corn and bell peppers. I am…

Shoes for those 100+lbs overweight
Okay - I seem to be having the WORST luck with shoes. I cannot seem to find a pair of tennis shoes that work for me. I've been through 5 pair in the last 2 months... - they either break down completely or cause me so much pain that I can't wear them 2 days in a row. I have wide feet - so I've been wearing mens shoes…

Arthur Wornum's Summer Challenge?
Anyone else doing Arthur's Summer Challenge? At the Finale of Biggest Loser, he wasn't at goal weight... he's pledged to continue working toward his goal and to lose 50 lbs this summer and wants others to join him. I've pledged 30 and hope to blow that pledge out of the water. If you'd like to join, look for "Arthur Wornum…

Wheat Free Menu ideas?
My sister in law has celiac and for a couple of years now has told me that I should go get tested because of the stomach cramps that I sometimes get. As a rule, I generally try to stay lower carb because of my PCOS and insulin resistance. It seems like my stomach upset had gotten worse since I started eating healthier.…

Shows to walk/ workout to?
For Christmas my husband and I converted our guest room into a workout room for my son. However, we will all be using it. My husband bought me a tv for that room so that I can watch the Biggest Loser while I walk on the treadmill. Are there any other inspiring weight loss/exercise shows that you like to watch and work out…

A new reason to love pictures? Maybe....
I have always hated having pictures taken of me. Not only because I'm fat...but it seems like I'm always in an awkward position, making a strange face, doing something stupid and *click* there it is... frozen in time for all eternity... to be posted on facebook, shown at family dinners, etc... yeah, you get the idea... I…

Losing it with Jillian
Did anyone watch this last night? What were your thoughts? I loved it! I think you get to see a whole different side of Jillian Michaels on this show... the compassion as well as the hard as nails trainer. I love that it's dealing with the emotions, the lifestyle and everything that goes into the "fat mentality". I can't…

Zucchini or Cucumber... it's not that hard!
The other day I was at the grocery store and bought zucchini and yellow squash. As I was checking out the cashier asked me if my zucchini were cucumbers. When I told her that they were zucchini she kind of laughed and said, "I never can tell the difference." I told her that cucumbers have bumps - zucchini are darker and…

Question about exercise calories... not THAT question...
I eat my exercise calories and enjoy them very much. I've been really paying attention to my "daily allowances" of things though.... like sodium, carbs, protein, fat, etc. I have been very good lately at coming in under my sodium allowance, way over on fiber, over on protein, way under on fat, and usually hit right at or…

Apples - fresh or dried - calorie question...
I posted on my FB page earlier that I was making apple crisps... apples sliced thinly and sprinkled with cinnamon then baked at 250 for 2 hours (by the way... yummy). A friend of mine posted that dried fruit has more calories than fresh fruit. Ummm.. what? I could see it having more weight if you're looking at weight....…

low sodium lunch ideas?
I've been doing really well on calories and have been feeling great. But I've been paying more attention to my sodium... and it's really high (like anywhere from 800-1000 over). Every day I eat a sandwich on an Arnolds sandwich thin or a lettuce wrap with deli ham, pickles and a teaspoon of mayo. Now... I KNOW that's…

shoveling snow - excellent!
Was asked to shovel a family friends driveway today. 733 calories burned in an hour and a half! I love my HRM! Now... unfortunately that was in addition to my workout that I had already done today. It's now 7PM... there is no way that I can eat all of my exercise calories today! What an awesome workout though!

Healthy on a budget?
I'm a stay at home mom who is rather... frugal. Since giving up my career a few years ago I feel it's my "job" to make sure that we get as much for our money as possible. I clip coupons, shop sales and do my best to cut costs where I can. I went grocery shopping today and spent $250... what I normally spend for about a…

Looking for a recipe tool...
I know that I used to go to a website where I could enter all the ingredients I'm using for a recipe and how many people it serves and it would give me the nutrition/calorie breakdown... but I don't remember what it was. Does anyone know of a good one?

1st day with my Polar F6
Well - not really, it's my 2nd day... yesterday was my first day and I just wore it all day monitoring how many calories I burned on an "average" day - without exercise. Today I wore it for the first time while walking... I had my "ownzone" set for moderate because I haven't been exercising much for the last couple of…

Lightly Active or Active
Since I started, I've changed my profile, my goals, etc. several times. When I started I had everything set up so that MFP was telling me that I should be eating about 1900 calories a day - but I also had planned to exercise for an hour a day, 6 days a week.... ha, ha lofty goals for someone who is out of shape, busy and…

Exercise Notes
Do you make notes under "Exercise Notes" on your exercise diary. I didn't my first week... but I've tried to write a little in there since. I'm glad for it too. While my scale isn't showing much right now - I was able to look back to when I first started and how much it hurt to walk for 20 minutes. Now I find myself…

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers...
Many of you knew that my mother was having surgery this past Tuesday to have a tumor removed from her ear and many people offered good thoughts and prayers - I wanted to say thank you. My mom came through the surgery very well. They were not able to reconstruct her ear as their was too much bone deterioration - but the…

Tonight I was in food hell.....
Friends of ours invited us over tonight for a card tournament. The deal was that everyone was supposed to bring their own sandwich fixins and we'd just kind of all make sandwiches, chips, etc. I thought, "Cool. I can do this... I can premeasure my lunchmeat, take my Sun Chips, take my Sandwich Thins, etc... I'll be fine."…

So, what are you looking forward to?
I had to go clothes shopping yesterday - we're going to a brunch and I needed something that was somewhat "Eastery" to wear and something that didn't make me feel like a frump... it was disheartening. I've lost weight, I feel like a whole new person, my existing clothes are getting looser... but when I went to try things…

Sweat - Embarassing Question
Ok - this is an embarassing and strange question... today I walked longer and faster than I have been able to thus far... 3.2-3.5 mph for 60 minutes - just over 3 miles. When I got done walking I noticed that I smelled like ammonia. I mean... BAD - it made my eyes water! Anyone have any ideas why that might be the case???…

People look at you like you're crazy when....
Your treadmill breaks so you go from store to store trying out new treadmills and "logging" each 10 minute trial in your exercise journal. I found a new treadmill AND got my exercise in!!! Oh how I wish that I could have afforded some of the more expensive models...

It's the little things...
I've been more motivated to succeed in this lifestyle change than I have ever been in my life. I find myself celebrating the little things... and of course the not-so-little things. As proud as I am of the 11 pounds that I've lost - there are others that I'm equally proud of. Today, I was offered a cheeseburger from…

Treadmill suggestions?
Well - it's happened... I borrowed my moms treadmill to get me started and it turns out that even though a treadmill hasn't been "used" for 11 years... it can be "worn out". It would appear that the motor is going bad... grrrr. Seeing as me being without a treadmill is simply not an option... I was wondering if anyone has…

Sodium... somewhat stupid question
How much is the right amount? How much is too much? I've been watching calories, watching carbs and keeping a careful eye on fats. I've been exercising faithfully and drinking a ton of water... but I haven't really been watching my sodium intake. AND - I'm not sure what I should be looking for... I'm fairly sure that I'm…

WOW! The wonders of a food scale!
Until today I was not the proud owner of a food scale and I would try to "eyeball" how much I was eating and guesstimate what I was eating. I found out today that I've been ripping myself off! 4 ounces of meat is a lot more than I thought! I was probably only giving myself 2 to 3 ounces... and counting it as 4.…

1st goal reached!
Because I have a significant amount of weight to lose - I'm setting small goals. The goal that I set on my first day was to lose 10 pounds by May 2nd, for my husbands surprise birthday party (when I know there will be pictures). I met that goal today.... more than a month ahead of schedule. So - now I want to lose another…

menu planning, favorite places to find recipes
I'm just starting out but have had great success in the past 4 days... I've lost 7 pounds! I've been walking for about an hour every day and have been faithfully drinking my water and counting calories. BUT - it's time for me to go to the grocery store. Normally, I would sit down and plan a months worth of meals and go out…

More Protein
I am insulin resistant and have PCOS. Because of this I've had to watch the amount of carbs I eat so as not have tons of insulin floating through my system. I never eat a carb without also eating protein. This will be my second day and it is my second day that I am going to go "over" on my protein. I'm still well in my…
