Back on the horse...again
Hi all!! I am reaching out to the community looking for people who can support me and that I can support as well. The last time I was on MFP, I didn't reach out in this way. I'm hoping by making this change, I will reach my goals and stick with logging in better than the last time I was using MFP. Please send friend…

Foster Parenthood and finding balance
Hi, this may get kind of long, but I need to get some advice from parents and other people in my situation. My husband and I can't have biological children. We decided to become foster parents given our life circumstances (we may or may not adopt one day- I don't know right now). Up until a week ago, I stayed at home had a…

Upped calories, now hungry and ill-feeling
About a week ago, I upped my calories by about 365 (from 1200-1565)...the last three days, I have been crappy feeling, waking up 3-4 in the morning HUNGRY. What's going on? Is this normal when you up your calories? Should I up my calories or just push through this and it will go away?

Ankle pain and exercising
Hi, I recently started doing a modified C25K workout plan. I was on W4D1 Saturday when my ankles started feeling a slight pain. I finished the workout and came home. Took Sunday off and did W4D2 yesterday. The pain was there in both ankles, but subtle during the workout. My cool down is a 10 minute walk home. That is when…

Upping my cals from 1200 to 1565 daily...
I just did all the calculations from the post "In Place of a road Map: Short N' Sweet." I have changed my goals, but am now having some concern about eating 365 more calories a day. I am going to try this for a few weeks and see what happens. I would really appreciate some current postings from anyone who has had success…

Brazilian Restaurant Buffet Logging??
Hi, my brother wants the entire family to go and eat at a Brazilian Buffet this weekend (name of the restaurant is Chima Brazilian Steakhouse - I think it might be a chain??). I have never eaten there, and I'm not finding much more than descriptions of the food and some pics (food looks delicious by the way). I can't find…

I feel unsupported when ______________.
I think I am going to have to have a "discussion" with my husband. I took about a month off from trying to lose weight, but for the last week I'm back on it. During this time, I've noticed some really annoying behaviors from my husband. The straw that broke the camel's back finally came when he ate some soup that I had…

Remedies for leg cramps (besides bananas)
I usually eat a whole banana for breakfast on days that I plan on exercising. It helps me avoid lower leg cramps. Lately, though, I am trying to cut back on sugar. For instance, I ate a half banana today, as bananas always kill my sugar number. I just got back from doing a walk/run and one of legs is twinging (feels like…

Best comment/compliment ever...
I have posted a few things lately where I haven't been getting the desired support at home...so in retrospect, I'm trying to turn my "stinking thinking" around and focus on the positive. I haven't had a lot of RL compliments lately. However, my favorite one (the one I cling to right now) was said by a nurse at my…

Avoiding Others While Working Out
Two days ago, I went for my walk/run way earlier than usual. While at the park, I ran into my father-in-law. He stopped and chatted, but cut the conversation fairly short (at least for him). Later on that night, he called and made a point to tell me he's at the park now every morning around that time. It was as if implying…

So many questions now...net vs TDEE vs BMR cals
When I first found MFP and set up my goals, I was set to a 1200 calorie per day goal. I was also not working out regularly. I ignored the net number and only calculated the BMR value out of curiosity (over 1400 cals). I lost 10 lbs, took a few weeks off from being so strict (focused on maintaining my weight), and have now…

Recalculating Calorie Intake
Over a month ago, I hit the 10 lbs lost mini-goal. I took a month off from being "strict" on eating and didn't workout as much. Last week, I started back in with exercise, and I keep my calories averaging 1200/day right now. At the 10 lb loss mark, MFP recommended I reset my goals or TDEE or something like that. I didn't…

Happy Results ='s Complacency
About a month ago, I reached one of my mini goals...the ten pounds lost mark. I was happy and excited, but wanted to take a little mini break from being so strict with my workouts. I don't mind working out, but I don't get the euphoric high some people get. I was only going to take a week off and then get back too it.…

Address the issue or let it die.
Two days ago, my husband made a comment that surprised me and now my over-analytical brain has really taken it to another level. We were watching TV on the couch, and a commercial with Beyoncé was playing. During that 30-60 sec commercial he was talking about her and the relationship she has with Jay Z. He said, "She is a…

Life boundaries - not a diet or weightloss topic
This week has been difficult. We found out Wednesday my husband had to have surgery Thursday. He's doing well. This morning I was informed the tests done to my grandfather appeared to be lung cancer (waiting for confirmation from the doctor). On top of these things I brought my husband home, we had a bad storm, and we were…

Family in town = poor food choices. Help!!
Discovered a new dilemma in my weight loss journey that started yesterday. My mother-in-law and her husband came into town yesterday to visit. I offered to cook, but everyone wanted to order a pizza for delivery. I haven't had pizza in a while, so I was okay with the calorie splurge. I had one slice and a few garlic knots…

When should I start using weights/strength exercises?
I have free weights at home (2 lb, 3 lb, 5 lb, and 8 lb sets) and a gym membership. I've done things (like bicep curls) with the weights and tried a few machines at the gym, but I honestly don't know what I'm doing at all when it comes to having a routine. Can I get some advice on what's best to do (i.e. reps or lbs or how…

The weekend's coming...
I have a problem that happens on the weekend. I am at home most days during the week, while my husband goes to wherever he has to work for the day. I get so much done M-F, especially doing workouts and house cleaning. However, starting Friday afternoon through the weekend, nothing gets done - this is also when I eat my…

Is there ever a good excuse?
I was wondering what other people had to say about the excuses they hear people give for not working out or eating right or not drinking water or "falling off the wagon"? What do you say and is there ever a good excuse???? The only good excuse I can think of is "I was in a coma"...what are your responses to the ones I've…

How does grazing work?
I've seen several suggestions to eat 5-6 small meals a day for different reasons, but I don't understand how/why it works....or does it???? When I think about how animals (specifically mammals) eat in the wild, it seems the grazers are larger creatures in mass (i.e. cows, whales, elephants), but the "lean, muscular"…

Goals for tracking inches
I am a female currently tracking my all over body inches (arms, chest, stomach, hips, upper legs and lower legs). Unlike my weight, though, I don't have a goal. Does anyone know of any charts that have ranges for healthy inches (like a BMI does for weight)? I've always heard the 36-24-36 rule, but not sure that applies to…

Eating after 7PM?
I ate very light all day today. Totaled my supper calories around 8PM and discovered I was 220 calories under my net. I don't normally eat late, but I was hungry by 9. I went ahead and made a sandwich (whole wheat pita, turkey, Dijon mustard, and veggies)...I came to within 3 calories of my net calories. Now, I'm full but…
