Am I missing something
I was at the gym today and there was a group of guys loading plated onto a bar. Like 8 of the big 45lb plates. Then a guy got onto the bench, two buddies helped lift the bar off the rack and he moved it all of about 2 inches down and up, racked the bar and jumped up as his buddies cheered him. Am I missing something? Was…

New Workout Needed
Good morning - I was wondering if I could get some suggestions as to a new working. I was doing SL5x5 3 days a week and riding my bike for 60 minutes the other two days. Then I had a heart attack. Cant outtrain genetics. :( Anyway, now my cardiologist wants me to do at least 30 minutes of cardio 5 days a week. As I only…

TDEE Settings
I am reposting this from the general forums in hopes of getting some feedback: I am using the TDEE method (-20%) but am unsure how to set the activity level. On the scooby calculator it has options for light, medium, heavy etc activity. My exercise: MWF - Stronlifts 5x5 plus 2 additional 5x5 supporting exercises (usually…

TDEE Settings
I am using the TDEE method (-20%) but am unsure how to set the activity level. On the scooby calculator it has options for light, medium, heavy etc activity. My exercise: MWF - Stronlifts 5x5 plus 2 additional 5x5 supporting exercises (usually arms and core) TTh, mountain bike riding (45-75 minutes, 14mph - between 800 and…

SL 5x5 Alternative
Ive been doing SL 5x5 for about 2 months and LOVE the results I am getting. The problem is that I am also trying to recover from a torn rotator cuff (labrum and infraspinatus) and my doctor doesnt want me doing OHP. Im good with that because it hurts. A lot. He approved the rest of the exercises. What would you do as an…

Bodyweight equivelant to SS/SL
So I and a few friends have been doing SL5x5 for a while and are thrilled with the results. I have another friend (female if it matters to the answer) who likes the results she is seeing on us but has zero access to fitness equipment/gym. Is there a program or alternative exercises that she can do with bodyweight…

Hard Decisions
So I am planning the rest of my food for the day and find that I have some calories left. The question I am (seriously!) asking myself is "should I have veggies with dinner or a double scotch while making it?"

The Next Person Who Says
"you're a guy - weight loss is easy for you" is going to get punched in the head. What's your "the next person that says"?

Adjustments for Injury
Yesterday while riding my bike I was clipped by a car. Nothing is broken but I am pretty badly bruised and they think I may have torn my rotator cuff. 3-4 weeks recovery if I dont need surgery. 3-6 months if I do. This is going to hamper my progress, of course. I was at TDEE 3475 - 20%, losing about 1.5 lb/week. I was…

Choosing a Charity
I don't really participate in other group discussions/forums so you are my peeps here. How do you decide who/what organization to give money to at Christmas time? Its rolling around again and I have too much money. Seriously though... we have had an exceptionally fortunate year and want to share with others who need it,…

Muscle and Deficit
I know that you cannot gain muscle while eating at a significant deficit, but why does it look and feel like you do? Is that just fat loss? I know I am much stronger and 'tighter' as well as what appears to be bigger, even though I am at a 20% deficit.

Seeking Workout Feedback
Good morning. I was hoping I could get some feedback on my training plan/workouts. About me: 42m SW: 254 (8-17-13) CW: 230 GW: ~200 I am currently eating at 4-500 deficit. Macros are 40c/30p/30f but I rarely make my protein macro. Ive had issues getting my diet adjusted without disrupting my very non-supportive family. I…

TDEE and Percentages
I am currently at TDEE -20% and losing pretty fast. At what point in my progress do I drop that percentage to 15 or 10? I have lost 28 in the last 3 months and have about 30 to go to my ultimate goal weight. I lift heavy 3 days a week and bike hard 2 days. If I have to skip a day of exercise its a cardio day. My TDEE is…

Ladies - High Heels?
My wife wants to lose weight and exercise more and one of the goals she stated is that she wished she could wear high heels. She has had surgeries basically reconstructing the hard parts of both knees. She has never done any significant leg exercises and her knees cannot take the pressures that come from heels. Is this…

Non-sequential day workouts
I am on an ABC non-sequential day workout plan that I lift on MWF. If I am not able to lift on Friday or Saturday do I do my C workout on Thursday or skip it and start the next week at A again?

Eating the right amount
Has anyone else found that its much harder to hit the right amount than it is to either eat too much or too little? Obviously eating too much is pretty easy. Thats what landed most of us here. In my first 60 days I found that eating too little is pretty easy too. Ive lost a lot, but way too fast considering I dont have…

Calculated TDEE
I read a post a while back and didnt tag it and am not kicking myself. This post explained how to figure out your actual TDEE based on the results of your caloric intake and loss over a period of time. Does anyone know the post or can explain to me how to get that number?

When to make a change
Ive been on MFP for 53 days. As of today I have lost 20 pounds. Yeah ... 2.66 pounds a week. I know thats too much. At what point do I up my calories to try to bring that to a healthy pace? Me: 42m, 6'0, moderatly active HW: 254 SW: 247 CW: 227 GW: 200 (TBD) Scoobys has my TDEE at 3250. FitBit measures it at 3129.…

Planning a 'bad' weekend
Has anyone had experience planning a bad weekend? I dont mean intentionally being anti-diet, but planning on not logging, not caring and not restraining? Next weekend my wife and I are getting away from the kids and work for 3 days in Savannah, with no responsibilities (other than my tee time), no budget and no plan for…

Am I doing it right?

Speed vs Time
I have found that I really enjoy riding my mountain bike. Am I better off increasing speed or time? Say, for instance, I ride 60 minutes at 12mph normally and want to increase my calorie burn. Am I better off trying to go faster for the same time or same pace but longer?

Replacing Tortilla Chips
One of the things my wife and I do is have a snack every evening of Yellow Corn Tortilla chips and salsa. While it fits well into my calories for the day, its killing my macros at 57 carbs and only 6 protein. In a perfect world that would be flip flopped. Can you recommend something that might work well with salsa that has…

Leftovers
What do you o when you get to the end of the day and still have hundreds of uneaten calories? I have my deficit set at 1000 off a 2500 tdee. I chose sedentary and no exercise since I log everything. I then use a fitbit and run keeper to add activity calories. I never come close to eating back my activity, usually eating…

FitBit Seems Off
So ive been using MFP for 3 weeks now and have had great results. I set the daily calories to 1900 (1.5 pound/wk, sedentary + 100 cals because i'm not actually sedentary). Lost about 10 pounds since I started and feel great. I got a FitBit One on Saturday and each of the last 3 days its been adjusting my calories by almost…
