21 Down!
I had to share this somewhere- this morning I am down 21 pounds, from 249 to 228. I’d gained a lot in 2016, which was such a hard year. I finally got my head together in November and started running again. So, so happy. I’m looking forward to continuing to run and getting faster! I was also able to clear out the garage…

Do you train using time or distance?
I'm curious- c25k uses a time based training, working up to a full half hour of running. I used that, then did a 10k training working up to an hour of running. I've done two halfs, but am now formally training for the distance so I don't have the curl up and die feeling after. I'm still using the time method, but once I…

Walk/Run to Rivendell: 397 miles starting May 1
While I've been hanging in pretty well with my running (despite the plague that struck me) I've started to feel a little bored. So I'm going to restart my mileage challenge- Bag End to Rivendell, which is roughly 397 miles. Tracker is here if you want to play:…

Lifting on running days, alternate, or give up?
I'm plotting out my new training plan since I can now say that I run half marathons (the s is important, I'm sure we can all agree) and I now want to work up to a full. For running, I'm going with three short runs on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday with a long run on Saturday. So far so good. I have the mileage and timing…

Seeking League of Villains
I've been around for awhile, then slipped off the mfp radar. Then I came back and my friends list is, well, not what it used to be. Me: sci-fi and comic geek, reads too much, enjoys lifting and running. Prone to random comments. Very competitive. You: shares some of the same interests, has goals, active commenter.…

Lifting while sick?
I'm curious as to people's thoughts: When ill, is it better to lay off the weights completely or lower the weights and do what you can? And Does your answer change if you're doing a progression as in starting strength or stronglifts?

Squats! So proud!
I have to share- I just did 125 for 5, 5, 3 for my squats! The most I'd done previously was 100, mostly out of fear of injury. But after 3 weeks doing starting strength and watching my form I'm hitting new heights. Whee!!! Anyone else hitting new squat PRs?

Evil Hanging Leg Raises of Evil
Okay, maybe they're not evil, but the program I'm doing calls for 5 sets of 10 hanging leg raises. My grip strength is, to put it mildly, not quite there. Should I: a) Do as many hanging as possible (currently 4) and then finish out the set with leg raises on the bench b) Do as many hanging as possible and then finish out…

There and Back Again: Be a Hobbit Challenge!
So, as backstory, as my grandpa was dying I would go every night and read the Hobbit to him. I remember the Bag End to Rivendell mileage chart at http://home.insightbb.com/~eowynchallenge/Tools/Hobbit_BE_to_Rivendell/hobbit_be_to_rivendell.html and started to keep track. I'm only six miles in so far, so almost to the Great…

Help! Injured and trying work with Dr's restrictions!
My neck/upper back is having, well, issues. The doctor has told me no squats, no overhead press, nothing with a barbell and nothing that could "possibly cause strain" on my neck. Dumbbells, however, have been given his blessing (so long as no neck strain). So... good exercises that I can do only with dumbbells and no neck…

Pull up recommendations?
I have a pull up bar and ha've been working on negative chin ups for the past several months and am really not progressing. I fully acknowledge that I may be doing them wrong. I don't have access to an assisted pull up machine, and probably wouldn't use it if I did. I've tried the chair method thingie from P90x, but the…

Zombie Run?
August 17th... Plenty of time to plan and a discounted rate if we get a team together? Anyone? https://www.thezombierun.com/register/registration/seattle-wa-2013

Seattle Meet Up? Bridle Trails Run Jan 12th?
So... On January 12th there's a running festival at Bridle Trials park in Redmond. They have a 50k relay trail run, amongst other things, but you need three to six people on a team to participate. So far, it's just me and my Manbeast. Anyone interested in joining us to play? If there are six of us it's only about 5.2 miles…

Bridle Trails Winter Running Festival on Jan 12!
They have a relay- 50 km, for three to six people. If there are six, then it's only 5.2 miles each! My Manbeast and I want to go play, would anyone else want to join in? It's trail running! It will be FUN!

Someone told my 5 yr old to stop eating or she'll get fat
Right, so I don't know who did this, and may whatever god they believe in have mercy on them if I find out, because I sure as hell won't... but someone told my beautiful 5 year old that she's fat and should stop eating. And she, being 5, believed whoever it was even to the point of turning down pizza and cake (treats she…

Help Equpping a Home Gym?
I want to cancel my gym membership, but before I do, I want to make sure I'm mostly set for equipment. Here's a list of what I have, what else could I possibly need? (Other than an Olympic bar and a squat rack; I KNOW that I need those) I'm doing Stronglifts, but will be switching to a 5/3/1 after I have this set up.…

Ring Resizing?
I'm down to within about 25 pounds of my goal weight. So close. After losing the first 70 or so, the wedding ring got loose. I've almost lost it on several occasions, but haven't had it resized because I don't want to have to have that done again. (I have a strong attachment to the ring, sending it away for a week to have…

C25K- Benefits in Continuing?
Okay, another question for the hive mind- I've been doing C25K alternate to my strength training, working up to where I can run a 5K. I am four weeks in. Last night I felt like going for a run, so I did. I ran for 3.33 miles at at 13 minute pace in 42 minutes. No walking. So... I guess I can run a 5K. Is there any reason…

Life After Stronglifts?
I'm currently doing StrongLIfts and really like the program. However it doesn't seem to be the sort of thing that would be continued indefinitely, though his site has people claiming to do it for years. So, here's the question for the hive mind: What (in your opinion) would be a good workout to move to after StrongLifts?…

Weight LIfting and Arms
I'm doing the Stronglifts program and am 8 sessions in. I've been taking pics of my arms, just to compare, and have happily noticed that they're firming up pretty nicely. However... My right arm has slightly less 'batwing' now than my left. This will eventually even out, right? Or since I'm right handed should I do some…

Spinach and Feta Cheese Mini Quiche

I've lost my Grandmother
Though since she only weighs 85 pounds, it would probably be more accurate to say I've lost my Grandmother and her eight pound cat. This amuses me to no end, so I had to share.

A Zombie LARP for your phone
I may need this. It's a running app with integrated story play. A little pricy, so I'll be waiting until payday, but sooo shiny. The story: "You’re Runner 5. Hundreds of lives are counting on you. You've got to help your base rebuild from the ruins of civilization by collecting critical supplies while avoiding roving…

Prozac?
I've just been started on this by my doctor. I've avoided being medicated for my depression for various not-very-rational reasons. Friday I attempted suicide and that was what finally brought me to realise that there are much, much worse things than being medicated. I've read all the fun information the doctor and pharmacy…

I challenge... YOU?
Game to play... Post a challenge (Don't go too crazy). The next person to post accepts your challenge and posts their own. Make sure you post when you're done with your challenge too, so we know you did it. Can we get some activity here? I challenge someone to do two reps (30 seconds each) of planks.

What's keeping you going?
Today what's getting me through are my hot pink toenails, new pair of size 10 slacks and the prospect of Zumba tonight. Now you.

I HATE Protien Shakes
I don't enjoy them. They taste nasty, no matter what I mix them with, BUT I keep reading things that say you should have them after lifting. Since I'm looking to get back into weight training more seriously, this is a concern. Does it really matter? Can I have something else that's roughly the same grams of protein as a…

Seattle Hell Run this September
Is anyone else doing this? I'm signing up for the 11am wave with the Manbeast. I mean, 10 foot ring of fire AND a KISS tribute band? How can you not?

I realise this may get me mocked...
But I need a dose of sanity since my evil, dysfunctional, formerly ED little brain is refusing to compute... I've been sticking to 1200 calories, no eating exercise calories, since I joined this site in, what, July? Anyway, it worked until it didn't. Two days ago I binged on almonds and went way out of my 1200 range. I…
