I always braid my hair when I run. I can't stand one ponytail though. It always feels like it's pulling the back of my scalp out so I always run/ bike with two braids. I do it real quick (at 4:15am!) and they are messy- don't even bother parting hair, just fling them together. You have to put the pony tail holder at the top and bottom of the braid or they will come out.
I'll try that next time. I wouldn't mind if it looks messy, as long as I don't have to spend half an hour after the run trying to disentangle the knots...

My shoes looked like that this morning too, but I wore tights did you run in shorts??? I only managed 9:02pace/ 6.6miles. Have decided I hate the feeling of squishy wet socks.
Shorts until it gets into the teens, or nasty windchill!

Congratulations to everyone running in races this last weekend - awesome job!!grimmeanor wrote: »I'm still figuring all this out, since I'm still pretty new to distance running. My fist 10l was in September. I had no idea then I might consider a half marathon by November, and I knew that would only be possible if I could make some 12 mile runs in the couple weeks ahead of the race. So I was really focused on doing whatever I could to make those 12 mile runs...perhaps too focused, in hindsight.
This is a really good article on how to prepare and taper for a half. I have run many and I still follow this same basic plan (I do run for 40-45 mins rather than 30 mins) and it has served me very well.

A wise running mentor told me that it takes as many days as miles run to recover - so 13 days to recover from a half and during that time you need to run recovery runs - not too long or too fast, and eat well with a good mix of carbs and protein. I try to remember this as well after my races._nikkiwolf_ wrote: »I had a nice long run despite constant drizzling rain today. The only not-so-great thing: when I keep on the hood of my rain jacket for a time while running, my ponytail gets turned into a tangly knotted mess (guess it's chafing against the jacket when it's stuffed inside or something like that). Maybe I'll try french-braiding my hair next time... Does anyone else have that problem and any advice about it, or is my hair just weird ?Minnygirl1 wrote: »I busted out 5 miles today!!! Yippee!!!!

Fabnine - I don't like wet squishy socks either, especially cold wet squishy socks!
I got up early for a 4 mile run as the sun was coming up, before my meetings for the day started. What a great way to start the day and the week!
