I came back from my run today (8km, one of my longest) and jumped straight in the pool. It was beautiful.

Today I got into a real thunderstorm, with thunder and everything. The first flash of lightning startled me enough that I put my left shoe in a deep puddle of mud (completely soaking it, of course), and made me decide that maybe the nice park with all the old trees was not the best place to be. So I had to turn around after 5k and head back on boring, tree-less concrete streets...

5 miles today. It didn't go super but I have been feeling under the weather for most of the week so I am just glad that I was able to make it through it. I have done a half marathon before using run/walk intervals but I have never run 5 miles straight before.

Dennie24,
I ran my first 5 miles straight last night. It is a great feeling!! Congrats!!

Finished week 1 of Hal Higdon 1/2 N2. Skipped one day just to make sure the foot had healed. So far so good. Will knock out all the days next week.
Also a big fan of the new shoes I switched to (Asics Gel Kayano-20) - much better than the Adrenaline GTS-15 that I'd bought a couple a weeks. (When i got fit it was between those two models) Not quite as good as the Brooks Ghost 6's which were my first running shoe this summer and that I absolutely loved. But pretty close.

The 5K on Saturday was bizarre. It was SO dark! I came in 2nd in my age group but my time was the worst I've ever run -31 -- mainly because it was so dark. Also, my app said it was 3.3 so not sure if my app is off or they were. My daughter is home from college and she ran it and got 3rd in her age group - she doesn't run a lot but after running the turkey trot with me and now this one, she now is looking for others for us to run. About 5 minutes before the race started they said "this is not the race to run your personal best .. it is very dark ... there are many wild animals and if you see one you need to stop!" We were panicking that the road was going to be uneven we would fall, etc. There were luminaries (bags with glow sticks in them) along the route but that did nothing to really see the road. It was fun once it was over and we were safe, but not sure I'd do it again. https://www.facebook.com/SommerSports/timeline is the company that did it and there is a little video on that page that shows how dark it was. Crazy!

Yes, congrats to both of you for placing. Did you have a light during the run? From late fall through early spring, I do a number of runs at dusk or after sunset, and I find that a headlamp makes a huge difference. (See my profile photo.) I've heard that handheld lights are better for highlighting irregularities in the road, but I usually run on familiar roads, so that's not as much of an issue for me.0 -
Ok - back on track after today's 12 miler. Should be able to get to 168 with all of my planned runs for the next week and a half despite all of the impending family/holiday madness. Cycling goal is looking doable as well (other forum - 235/400 miles). Would be nice to hit both targets for once.
