No cookies yet for me. We bake and decorate cookies on Christmas Eve at my house. We are doing gingerbread zombies this year.

I usually make more candy than cookies for Christmas. I always do buckeyes which are simple, but time consuming and divinity, which is such a pain if the weather doesn't cooperate. If it's too humid it doesn't set up right.

Tomorrow I'm planning to make up some sugar cookie dough and freeze it. Then later this week something else. Anybody have a good recipe for pecan sandies?

I'm also gonna let the kids help me put those jumbo marshmallows on sticks and dip them in chocolate and add various sprinkles for their little friends in the neighborhood. Like this,

I'm making 500 cookies for a public function in a few days. Will be really hard not to nibble on the dough.

These are a few that I've made this year. Plus 4 types of fudge: Kahlua with macadamia nuts , Peanut butter, Jack Daniels with pecans, dark chocolate with walnuts

Oh that is too funny!!! Gooey butter cake is common in St. Louis and the cookies are one of my favorites - but this blog is written by a friend of a friend! My friend got to be the taste tester for her recently published cookbook.... just trying to figure out how to get invited to the next go round of tasting!

Also there's an even easier version of this:

1 box of yellow cake mix
    1 stick of butter
    1 brick of cream cheese
    1 egg
    1 tsp vanilla

Mix and scoop, roll in powdered sugar, bake.

It's my go to cookie recipe when I don't have a lot of time. You can make a chocolate version with devils food cake mix, and I'm guessing a red velvet one would be great too.

    HA- small world!!!

well I know this works for sure- I might have to try the box version (as I read on the blog the box mix exists) but only because - wellllllllllllllllllll I'm lazy- and box cake mix is only like 2 bucks.

I honestly didn't know anything about it till my friend brought the to rehearsal the other day. My perfect kind of cookie- seriously- I love barely baked cookies- so this- divine- heaven. Honestly. I am in love.

I should move to St Lois. LOL

It's one of the best things about St. Louis... I'm not a native...

The actual gooey butter cake is pretty much the same too. Paula Deen has a recipe:
    http://www.pauladeen.com/original-gooey-butter-cake

There are bakeries here that only make gooey butter cake in a variety of flavors and they ship!

just to be clear- 1 brick cream cheese is what 1/4 pound?

press cookies semi flat on the baking sheet?

And by bake you mean around 350 for 8-10 min?

(sorry- I'm pretty good with fudging my way through - but I do realize baking is a science not just a happy coincidence- so since I know I'm not making cake like the box itself- I'm just wanting to be clear- and I'm also a pretty mediocre baker- don't judge- I know my weaknesses!)

I'm sorry, I really did a piss-poor job of that recipe. I was doing it from memory, at work, someone came in my office, I went back and noticed that I didn't remember the butter. Or apparently the other pertinent details..

Here's a link to it from All Recipes:

    http://allrecipes.com/recipe/gooey-butter-cookies/

I don't press them flat, they spread pretty well on their own.

LOL- no- the butter is in there (least the one I saw!!!)- I'll check the allrecipes though. If I baked more often I'm sure i'd be able to wing it- but well... I don't. LOL

    But thank you either way!

Already ate one cookie that a nurse brought in to the center today...it was tiny. I'm talking half a golf ball size. Turns out the sucker is 168 calories!!! To quote Charlie Brown here "GOOD GRIEF!"
Came upstairs to the OBGYN clinic and the head physician is like "Hey, Maureen! We have birthday cake!"
Monday...everyone is out to get me with their treats...Plus I'm baking at home too so there's more temptation.
Gotta wrap up my baking, buy those gift boxes and get the stuff out of my house LoL

Yes, sorry. Forgot to answer that. I really can't seem to forum well today... brick of cream cheese is 8oz.

  • I had a homemade cookie delivered straight to my desk this morning.... I'm slowly nibbling on it and enjoying every little crumb. Just log it and eat a low calorie dinner! That's my plan for tonight! You can still enjoy sweets!

I love this time of the year because of love baking. Its an easy way of giving my coworkers something and they love pretty much anything I bring in. And I always try to make something new every year. This year I am going to try to make millionaire bars, which are a layer of shortbread cookie, caramel(I'm going to use dulce de leche because I love it) and chocolate on top. I'm also going to put some sea salt between the caramel and chocolate to amp the taste a bit.

Theres been a constant supply of various baking goods arriving in the area at work - every. single. day. Unlucky enough to be on the table right BEHIND 0_0... it's hard... very hard to say no.
Yesterday: These soft molasses cookies arrived
    Delicious =)
Next few meals I expect will be rabbit food + lean meat or green smoothies. ;)
