Start with soup
People who ate a low-calorie vegetable soup before a meal consumed 20% fewer calories at the meal, according to research from Penn State Unniversity. Have a low-calorie broth-based veggie soup before your largest meal of the day to reduce calories and lose weight without feeling hungry.

X 1,000,000 - it's the only thing to do. Seriously.0 -
in for people not realizing shes asking for tricks to help with a calorie deficit
eta i geuss ill add in my $0.02
-brush your teeth if youve used up your daily calories and its near bedtime
-try intermittent fasting
-drink more water and eat more soups as mentioned
-use smaller dinner plates (though if you measure food this wont make much of a difference)
-generally eat whole unprocessed foods as they tend to be less calorie dense and higher in micronutrients
-find which macro satiates you most and use that to your advantage (i fill up on protein, so if i need a snack to tie me over i go protein heavy)-3 -

Hang on you mean there's a difference between lowering your overall calories by eating something low calorie as part of your largest meal and "eat at a calorie defecit"?
or is it just purty packaging?

Just eat less, but how you do that is going to depend on you and your personal preference. For example, I tend to love vegetables. I eat a lot of them. Every day for lunch I have a big spinach salad with a whole lot of protein (8-9 oz). That helps keep me full but, it's not for everyone.
Bring snacks you like with you to work (or wherever).
Other than that, drink a lot of water, get in some exercise and get serious about healthy sleeping habits.0 -

-weigh your food to ensure the serving you're eating
-don't cut treats out if you don't have to
-find better choices0 -
You can start every meal with a big glass of water. I prefer that to soup because so much soup is loaded with sodium.
Other than that, I hesitate to call anything a "trick" because it really is nothing more than a calorie deficit. What works for me is to load most of my meals with protein and fats, and that keeps me from feeling hungry.0 -
For me the "trick" was finding healthier options for what I like to eat. Instead of movie popcorn, I'll bring roasted kale chips. Instead of jelly beans, I'll have almonds. And water, water, water!0

tricks to eating at a calorie defecit
- choose low calorie filling foods
- eat smaller quantities of calorie-dense foods
- eat lots of low-calorie vegetables packaged up however you like
- drink lots of zero-calorie water
- know how many calories you're consuming by weighing your food
- track how many calories you're consuming by logging it
- when you get to the point where your calorie limit is set, stop eating
- exercise to earn more calories0 -

I imagine you will get a few snarky comments given the use of the word tricks.
Two strategies I employed:
1. Changed diet to incorporate more veggies. Eventually my preferences changed and cold raw veggies have become my go to snacks. Thus, ingesting fewer calories. Mix it up so you dont get bored with the same veggies.
2. Began an exercise program. Which helped with calorie deficit.0 -

I don't have a problem with the word tricks, I just acknowledge that personal preference plays a huge roll in which "tricks" work and which don't.0 -
Sadly there are no tricks...0
-
- Eat less, move more.
- Make lifelong sustainable choices, aka, don't do crazy redistricted diets, those will end, and more often than not, people end up going back to old habits and gaining everything back once they end
- Also, accurately weigh & log food, be honest with yourself.
