Hi All. . . Enjoyed reading the many posts. . . what a diverse group! Thank you for the welcome words and encouragement.
I had a pretty good food day until this evening when I just had to eat the iced sugar cookies that were calling my name. Well. . . at least they're gone now! Hope no more show up!
Activity level low today. I see my personal trainer tomorrow. . . hope to have a better day!

Jeannine in MO: I am so happy that your DH is doing well. My dad had his first heart attack at age 45. Back then they stuck oxygen in your nose and gave you blood thinners. He survived by force of will, I think, and lived many more years. He eventually had bypass surgery and that bought him another decade. Dad was a lifelong smoker and never did anything to improve his own health. His heart developed a hole next to a valve in an inoperable location. We were grateful for the extra time that his earlier surgery bought for us. I hope your husband is able to enjoy a long and active life. Heart disease treatments have advanced FAR beyond what was available to my dad. :flowerforyou:

Marywetterlund: Don't start over. Just pick yourself up and keep going. Starting over is emotionally taxing. Nobody is perfect and we all blow it once in a while. Tomorrow is a new day, with no mistakes in it. If there is a mistake, do some exercises to make up for it. Walking or riding my bike are my “go to” strategies when I’m over my allowed calories.
Lylathome: There are several of us from the PNW. I live in Oregon beside the Columbia River. There are several others who live within about 50 miles of me. Some are in Oregon and some in Washington. I got to know each of them through MFP but not all of them post on the board regularly. I haven't met any of them in person yet.
Viv: It is good to hear from you.
Heather: I think it is grand that you have a nationwide RSPB bird survey. I’m happy to hear that goldfinches are doing well. I wonder if other species would get a boost from garden stores selling feed mixes just for them.
K2boxlady: Congratulations on a great NSV. Sticking to your diet at the company dinner is excellent.

DS & DDIL were here this weekend and are now on their way home. I really enjoyed the time we spent together. We had excellent weather and were able to sit outside in the sunshine for about an hour this afternoon. That is a rare treat in January. Now I’m ready to rest.

Thanks for the encouragement. I am starting the Zumba video tomorrow. I use to love to dance so I'm hoping that will get me moving since it's too slippery outside.
There are a lot of horse people here. I'm hoping to put up fence this spring and build a couple of stalls in our pole barn. My DD wants to put her horse out to pasture, she's getting too old to ride. And I would like to get a horse for me.

Just back from a lovely drive to Stanley, 1 hour each way. Mildred beagle ran on the beach and paddled. Bough fish and chips in Stanley, from fish shop whose men go out on trawlers. Was very yummy and felt deserved

Michele you must have the most organized freezer. Can you just go to your freezer and find a particular cake?
Kim I am the one who goes out to eat every evening and Choice was my word. Yep, we go out every night. Charlie does not know how to control himself at all and any leftovers would be immediately consumed. He is awful at a buffet. He will start out with two plates loaded with mainly meat and some starchy veggies.
Church attendance was very low today. I don't understand it but you know some people HAVE to sit in a particular pew. Well I guess that whole section has the flu right now. Almost one whole side was empty today. But we had a fairly young man (50s) who had a massive heart attack this morning and died. He has a large family and his wife's sister is our organist so her family was gone also. Some of the folks that have been out the past 3 weeks with the flu were back though. Our poor choir. 2 sopranos and 5 altos in the choir today!
I don't know if the ones of you who go to Sams ever use their free machine when it is there. I don't know if Sams just has this big truck that goes around the US leaving the 'free' machine there for a couple of days and then it goes somewhere else. But you just scan you membership card and you get whatever is free that day. Last time is was green tea with Truvia sweetener. I tried it today and I have decided I don't like green tea at all. There is nothing to it at all.
I'm proud of myself. I did not go in the kitchen and raid Charlie's box of chocolate pop tarts today. I still want to as I am writing this but I haven't. Part of it is that he knows how many are in it and he will bring it up when he sees that the amount in there is less than the last time he got one. So if he ever dies before me I don't have that accountability.
I was reading something about the miss Universe contest today. One of the women has a montra she goes by. Faith+Effort=Success

Just a quick post this morning - pleased to say I did my exercises before logging in
Trouble is I don't have a lot of time now, but I have caught up with the last few pages so feel back in the loop.
Welcome newcomers - I think one of you mentioned your word of the moment is 'Wellness' if you don't mind I'd like to use that too. I'm surprised I didn't think about it myself as at work I am in the Occupational Health department and a lot of our work this year is concentrating on Wellness. We've even changed the name of our webpage to include Wellness.
I was surprised to hear a few of you also had troublesome dogs, I was beginning to think it was just us. When we go on walks we see (in the distance!) dogs meeting/greeting and being friendly with each other and wish we had a friendly dog, but hey ho, we do the best we can with him. He's almost 11 years old now and starting to look a bit old. So who knows how much longer he will be with us.
Heather I heard about the RSPB bird survey on the local radio, I think in York they wanted volunteers to go to the Museum Gardens and count birds there. I like birds and would put up a bird feeder in the garden but the cats would try and kill them. To be honest I'm a little scared of birds, when DD was younger she had budgies and when she let them out of the cage I was worried if they flapped about near me. I was ok with them standing or perched somewhere, but didn't like them flying about. But watching them in the garden I could cope with. I do try and throw some seeds ontothe shed roof when the cats are inside.
Kim I didn't know Sketchers had been sued - their trainers didn't help my legs, they are still as chubby as ever lol.
Going into town this morning with my mum, my friend told me there were some artificial roses in one of the £1 shops I'm going to buy some if they have any left. Best get ready before she calls to ask where I am.

well we have battened down the hatches, working today,but will he shoveling out probably for the next day or 2. we are supposed to get 2 feet of snow ,did I say I HATE winter, I want Florida soooooo bad...but will deal with the weather.. shoveling is great exercise...I am supposed to work at 12:30 this afternoon, I am going to go feed DFIL, then over to the credit union to pick up a check, then go over to where the DH works to drop it off. then back to work.. so got up extra early, hop in the shower and make dinner for DH.. then I am off0

p.s. will probably be able to check in tonight, but we could lose power.. after that might only be on the news feed until we get power again.. we do have a generator.. and extra gas for that and the snow blower0

- I have always found, when I first arrive in Spain, that their eating schedule takes a bit of getting used to. :noway: I think they play "chicken" with who can be the last to sit down to eat in the evening! ! ! Also the siesta plays havoc with sightseeing! But you soon get used to it and live like they do. :flowerforyou:
Felt very off this morning and had to drag myself through my exercises. :ohwell: But I made it! I was thinking of the left over haggs I have for dinner tonight. I think it will be shiritaki noodles for my afternoon snack to allow for the calories. (They are nearly zero calories)
Talking of Madrid, my DH was looking through the photos we took there 5 years ago. Of course he mentioned how much weight I had lost since then! I wasn't even at my worst! I had a look and there were lots of rolls of fat under my t shirt! I must say, at the time he never criticised my weight, but always told me I was lovely. Now he says he was worried about my health and my truly terrible mobility. In Madrid I had a dreadful back and was doping myself with heavy painkillers. I walked round the park in a daze!
Hair colouring today. Hope it goes well.

Viv - if you get the pole feeder with the hanging feeders the cats won't be able to get at them. They do require maintenance as mould can be a problem on the seeds etc. You have to clean them from time to time. We can see the birds from our living room French windows, so it is marvellous.
- For us squirrels are the biggest challenge as they are very resourceful. We have now got them licked with squirrel proof feeders. :laugh: It was one of the biggest joys of moving to the countryside and we have seen more than 25 different varieties in our garden.

Good morning friends!
Had a good, but lazy day yesterday. Took the day off from exercises but I did do 4 loads of laundry so I wasn't exactly a couch potato. I was able to still eat healthy tho. Spaghetti for son, rib eye steak sandwiches for hubby, and pork loin and Brussels sprouts for me. Gotta love making 3 different meals at one time.
Grandmallie, we are expecting snow here tonight. I'm in VA so not as much as up north from us. Good luck and hope your power stays on. Be safe!
Jmkmomm, good for you laying off the choc pop tarts. My fav is the Oreo pop tarts. I could eat a box a day. Had to stop buying those bad boys tho.

Good morning! Just a quick check in to say hi. The scales are slowly moving in the right direction, so I think I'm back on track. That's not to say that I'm being perfect by any means. My daughter brought me a box of Thin Mints yesterday. Let's just say that there aren't any more. However, I didn't eat anything else for the remainder of the day so I stayed within calorie count.
My best female friend is coming to visit this weekend. I can't wait! She is working at losing weight right now, too, so eating shouldn't be a problem. I tend to go off the rails when I go out to eat too much. I hope we can stay in and cook most of our meals.
I'm off to get some more work done. I need to go downstairs and get more ice for my water, too. Steps, steps, steps...

I am new here. I live in Virginia. I need help with motivation and support. My fiancee thinksI am the sexiest woman ever and I love it. I need to loose the weight for me so I can breath better. I have been severely depressed since I lost my Mom almost 2 years ago this April. Lost my fur baby last year. I am truly blessed to have a step daughter who loves me. I bit the bullet today and Weighed myself after the couple days of binging. I did gain 2.2 lbs. that is a hard lesson. I am back in control again Thanks to your encouragement and support. I am amazed at how eating food that is not healthy can put on so much more weight then calories consumed. I know that I did not eat 6700 extra calories.
I am going to exercise now to try to get back on track! Have a great day.

Welcome wildfiremoons666. I am new here too (just joined in the talk last week). I also live in VA. Good people here with great motivation. Sounds like you've got a great man to go along with that wonderful step daughter. Sorry for the loss of your mother. I lost my first husband 13 years ago and was a size 4 when he passed. Now happily remarried, my husband adopted my son (who will be graduating high school in May) but I have ballooned up to size 16/18. Trying to get down a couple sizes before graduation so my son will be as proud of me as I am of him.

I'm new here. I'm 53, 5'2" tall and [gulp] 113 pounds overweight. I am in shock at the number on the scale. 230 pounds? I shake my head and think, how the hell did I get here? But I know very well how I got here. I eat all the wrong foods like crazy, and I don't move. There really is no secret to it, is there?
I've been a member of MFP for a couple of years, but I never really used it. I could never get into the habit of thinking about what I ate all the time and having to write it down. But, now, I'm just so sick and tired of feeling ... well, sick and tired, that I am determined to do everything I can to lose the weight once and for all. And no more fads and gimmicks. Believe me, I've tried them all. From that stupid HCG diet (I still can't believe I injected myself with a pregnancy hormone every morning for six weeks) to the latest thing I tried, which was the Purium shake. They all work... for a few weeks. Then it's back to the same old unhealthy habits and binge eating.
I have finally and completely realized that there is no magic pill and no easy way to be fit and healthy. It's going to take hard work and a long time. It's about creating new habits to replace the old ones. It's about mindful eating, instead of just sitting in front of the TV in a haze, and then all of a sudden looking down and realizing that I ate an entire carton of Edy's Butterfingers ice cream (for the third time in a week).
I'm really scared that I won't be able to do it, but I'm going to give it everything I have.
I started a Biggest Loser challenge at work a week ago Friday. Last week I lost 5.5 pounds, and I didn't starve myself or fast or anything crazy like I usually do. I just loaded up on tons of fruits, vegetables, beans and grains. I logged into MFP every day and made sure I had all the nutrition I'm supposed to have. I know most of it's water weight, but I'm still very proud of myself. But for me, the first week is always successful. It's continuing the momentum that I find so difficult.
I have now logged my food for 8 days straight. That's actually a record for me. I am cautiously optimistic. I'm hoping that by reaching out to others in my situation, I will have the courage I need to get through the hard times. It's all about one day at a time, right?
Anyway, thanks for reading this. Sorry I ran on so long. And thanks for starting this thread. I believe it's really going to help.

CP- I was a yoyo dieter and have tried several different Ways to lose weight. I have been here for 100 days and lost 25 pounds. This is more of an accountability diet then a fad. Also, the support that you will get on this thread from the ladies will be extremely helpful. Good luck to you and hope to see you here again.

Thanks for all the speedy recovery wishes – I’m doing well. The weekend had some uncomfortable times, but we’re thinking it is really from the gas they used during the laparoscopic parts of the surgery. There always seems to be a random bubble that floats around for a while. And I guess the little twinges I’m feeling are the various bits healing – I truly am not in any pain. Makes it easy to overdo… I am back at my pre-hospital weight and might even see if I can fit into any of my slacks yet. Tummy is still quite puffy.

I'm dealing with a high A1C and it's so hard because I love sweets. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Go to a trainer twice a week, now I need to incorporate workouts at home. I was hoping if I got some weight off along with watching my sugar intake it would bring the A1C down.0

Hi everyone.
I used to be on this thread a lot but fell off the wagon (ha! numerous times!) Even though I didn't post a lot or lose a lot of lbs I slimmed down great for my daughter's wedding in November...through diet and exercise (and an amazing personal trainer). After the wedding -- and thanksgiving... I was all ready to get back in the saddle but then my mom got sick and was in the hospital for 21/2 weeks... and then we had Christmas... goodness! Such excuses, right!? Well... I'd like to say I'm back and want to be held accountable.. so here I am... reintroducing myself. Tammy from Virginia Beach... 53, married, two daughters, one married and another in her first year teaching (1st grade!)
I used to be a French teacher, but now I substitute teach... love to quilt and read and have become so much more fond of working out since I worked out with a trainer!
Hope to get to know you lovely ladies and encourage you too!

One thing I notice on this thread, there are a lot of "reasons" why people "fall off the wagon". lately it was thanksgiving, then Christmas, then new news, then valentines day that is coming up... you must remember, there will ALWAYS be a "reason". especially with the work potlucks, friends coming over to visit, going out to dinner, pier pressure, them telling you, "oh come on, just one small piece". it is seriously hard to say no thank you to something that you really want but if your friends or support system is around you and are there for you, they won't bother to offer it to you to begin with.
I go to this friends house once a month and she put on facebook a pic of this drink/dessert that had cherries on top, cheesecake like thing in the middle, and what looks like a graham cracker crust on the bottom w/fireball whisky in it. she asked the group; that she's been asked to make them and wanted a count of people that would have one if she made them. I replied no, I wouldn't. one person said well if you cut this and reduced this to lower the fat that she would, another said she would, another said, if you replaced the cherries w/strawberries.... one asked me (knowing that I am into my health) is it the fat that is freaking you out which is why you won't have one? I said, no, not freaking out about it at all... it's just that i'm not crazy about cherries or cheesecake and if it was going to have something I would make damn well sure that I REALLY want it to add it to my calorie count. I ask myself, do I want to waste it on that? and my answer is no. all of these ladies are over weight, I don't say anything, I just lead by example to myself, not to anyone else but myself.
don't beat yourself up over bad choices that you may make. add it to your calorie count, you will be amazed on what you will slowly cut out because you never realized what it was that you were putting inside of yourself.
small example, I had one small bag of Cheetos out of the vending machine. I saw the calorie count was something like 250 calories.. I thought to myself, no big, I can burn that... when I went to the gym, I had to RUN 3 MILES to burn that off!! I was thinking, ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? was that bag of Cheetos worth it??? the answer was NO!, haven't done that since, (probably about 6 or so years ago).

Hello to all: Welcome to newbies!! I have been to the pool this morning and did my water exercise, had trouble with one of the balance exercises, I think I float too well. LOL
Pip - I'm with you on calorie counts. I can't believe sometimes what it takes to burn off calories consumed!
Joyce - We had no basses yesterday in our choir so a couple of the tenors sang bass. Luckily the piece we were singing was not really low.
Mary - You made me laugh visualizing you with the chocolate. It is my big downfall too.
Margaret - Beautiful pictures. I would love to come to the cities for the winter carnival but I hate winter driving.
CP - Welcome to the group. You sound a lot like me although I used to do a lot of exercise. The last three years I have not done much but I am improving on that.
