My story is a little funny. I was sitting in my chilly office with a small jacket on. I leaned back to yawn and a button from my jacket popped off and flew accross the room. That was my AH HA moment. What was yours?

Mine was pretty anti-climatic.
I got sick and was bedridden for along while.
Once I was well again, I was unable to fit into my clothes anymore.40 -
Whenever I burn popcorn....and then I make another bag...while still eating the previously burnt popcorn. I was like.....whaaaat am I doing! Also hit the age of 33 and decided I want to be one of those middle aged people that still get ID'ed92

My coach for my roller derby team told me that I have great skating skills...what was holding me back was my fitness. He said I could be a team material if I worked on getting in shape. When I told my marine boyfriend, he encouraged me to take my coach seriously. He told me it was because he wants me around for a long time. That was quite the wake up call for me!51

Stretch marks on my tummy & eating more than my partner! I didnt want things to get any worse.. I'd put on 2 and a half stone in 1 year!27

Every ten pounds is about four seconds off one's 100 yard swim time, and I'm looking to get into distance swims. While I do not want to be thin (dangerous if you're doing a skins cold water swim) I need to be faster than I am.12 -
Wearing this spare tire around my waist..ughhh, its such a downer. I feel like I have lost control of my belly. I don't have kids, but I look like I do. Oh, and I am built like my mother, and I dont want to be.74

I went to the doctor's and she hounded me about my weight before she even asked why I was there (which I was a bit upset about). She encouraged me to see a nutritionist, which was free through work. I agreed to see the nutritionist, dropped the doctor, and started MFP to track what I was eating for the nutritionist to see. Turned out it was a lot easier to manage than I'd ever thought, so I kept on doing it. Seeing the scale near 350 pounds was definitely a wake up call too.
Happy to say that I've been here a year and a half, am at 246 currently, and still going strong on my goal towards a healthy BMI.222 -
When my mum had a heart attack, I also have 2 kids and gained 2 hlf stone, (I have rly broad shoulders) and on my anniversary I looked in the mirror in my new dress, I looked like a Rugby player from the front, and Hunchback from the side and thought this is it! Lost 8lbs today and tried the dress on and feel more confident wearing it (but still on my journey) Losing weight, strength training and eating healthy..32

I started getting in shape after a break up.
During one of my bootcamp classes, I squatted and tore my pants in the butt. lol
But recently I have kicked it into a higher gear because my younger sister is getting married. Depressing enough that my younger sister is getting married while I am still single, I didn't want to be the chunky Maid of Honor.59 -
when I realized... I'm in a size 10 pants.... and I was a size 2.34

INSPIRATION GIRL!!!9 -
I went to a fancy-schmancy gala event for an apartment association-- complete with red carpet-- and when I got the pictures back, I was mortified. I knew I was heavier, but my first thought was, "WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELL ME I LOOKED LIKE THAT?!". Ha!49

The first time, I couldn't fit into any of my clothes one day. I must have been wearing stretchy things for like half the year because it felt like overnight I went up a size. Since I couldn't fit into anything, I weighed myself. I was a good 40 lbs heavier than I had been the year previously (when I was in the best shape of my life), and 25 lbs heavier than I had ever been and was nearing 200 lbs.
The second time (still 25 lbs lighter than my first 'wake up call'), I saw a picture of my sisters and I. I was the fat one and not happy about it. So I started losing again. But what really got me permanently on the wagon was the death of my grandfather a few months after *The Picture*. It wasn't a surprise, he had major heart problems. But watching three of my grandparents die over the past decade or so, slowly, due to heart disease or diabetes really made me want to NOT end up like that.30 -
When I put on my largest jeans and they were so tight I couldn't sit down!
Five years ago, and I'm still going strong!42 -
No real story. One day, out of nowhere I was serious about it. But there are some other things that help me to stay motivated:
1. Nothing in my closet fits except sweaters and baggy clothes
2. My boyfriend is bulking up, want to look hot with him
3. I love running, want to lose breast size to make it easier for myself
4. I'm such a fashionista and want to finally put my Pinterest pins into reality.
5. Want to motivate my family to be healthy by being a good role model62 -
I agreed to be a den leader and thought it hypocritical to be overweight. Lead by example. That and I don't want to be out of breath after a hike.23

My 'fat pants' we're no longer fitting. Seriously, I owned one pair of jeans that still fit, and I was starting to surpass them. I was tired of having to come home and put on sweat pants and pajamas.
I want to apply for term life insurance, but my weight puts me into a high $$$ category even though I am only 35, and otherwise 'healthy'
I am 5'3" and tired of weighing more than my 6 foot tall husband. Like, 50 lbs more.

I got tired of looking at all the fat on my body.29

When my daughter became obsessed with food and wanted snacks constantly. I sadly realized she was mimicking me and I had to stop.62
-
When I hit 250 pounds, it really rattled me, and I was tired of people asking me if I was pregnant due to my big belly.31
-
When I hit 200 pounds and I had never been there before. After that I stopped weighing myself.14
-
Oh no, haha!
I was just sick of myself and my habits.6 -

Because you didn't. The camera is a cruel foe who distorts our appearance. You probably looked much nicer than the camera said you did (weight gain notwithstanding).16 -
I have been overweight since I was a wee little girl. I started dieting at age 18, and have been on a roller coaster ever since. I used to lose weight every spring/summer, only to gain it back in the fall/winter months. For me, it is a daily battle with few reprieves.14

I have two amazing, beautiful daughters and a fantastic wife that need me in their lives. I also want to look good in nice clothes.20

Going to a regular store, and going to "plus" area to find pants. Designers for plus size, think all fat women are color blind, uneducated unemployed, and don't like nice clothes, or sexy clothes...I saw a bunch of junk that looked like a Wal Mart clearance sale in a ghetto. Nothing appropriate for leading a professional meeting, or traveling for a work trip. The suits available were cheap looking, and nothing fitted.
I need to lose weight to get back to shopping in sections that have decent clothes to choose.35 -
I came to the conclusion that I wanted to be healthier and not die young and I wanted to be fit again...losing weight was a nice bi-product.12

I was about to have to invest in serious purchase of a larger size.9

When getting a physical for my CDL to drive school bus, I learned that not only was I fat but my blood pressure, which had always been really good, was elevated. The doctor said it was serious enough I needed to take meds. That got my attention. I decided no way do I want to take meds the rest of my life. So, I guess it was serendipity that I decided to drive bus, got the physical and got the wake up call. Why exactly it "clicked" right then I'll never know, but I'm glad it did. I cut back and watched what I ate for about 5 months before I overheard someone talking about an online app for calorie control. Once I found MFP things really started rolling!

A few things.
Getting on an airplane for the first time in a long time and struggling to get the seat belt to fit around me.
The office was getting new carpet and we had to move out everything. While we were moving my desk I was panting a bit and pouring sweat. My manager came up with a concerned look in his eyes and said " why don't you let one of the younger guys do that for you?'.
I hadn't weighed myself in forever. My sister said I could come over and use her scale. It maxed out at 300 lbs. When I came out of her bathroom I had to tell her that her scale didn't go high enough.
I bought a scale and found out I weighed 339 lbs. I am down to 253 right now. It's the best I have felt in a long time. I am not there yet but I refuse to go back.105
