What nobody tells you about losing weight

I have "thin days" too for sure. Especially with all the new bones I'm discovering. They actually freak me out and make me doubt if it's healthy or not because I was obese for so long.
I love my collarbones - love them - words cannot describe my love for these things - and yet, sometimes I'll go to scratch my shoulder and I'll stub my fingers against the collarbone because I forgot it was there and I'm like JESUS CHRIST WHAT IS THIS WEIRD THING.

And that bone on the back of my shoulder? I love playing with it so much! Lol.8 -

My 10 year old son was lying next to me and got alarmed. "What are those THINGS?" he asked. "Um, my rib cage...." I replied.23 -

Yep, not happening for me. Although I have to admit, typical junk food meals have never been part of my daily eating and I enjoyed them only occasionally before weight loss, so not much has changed. This might have something to do with it.3 -
People assume you are starving and there’s nothing you can say to change their minds.
There will come a point when some parts of you really are too skinny, but your stomach is still fat.20 -
That at some point it becomes about what your body can do rather than the number on the scale!27

Discovering that I actually enjoy eating fresh fruit and salads.
Drilling new belt holes in the leather is very satisfying.
Donating all my too big clothes to Goodwill freed up a lot of closet space.
People like to ask you how did you do it, but then tell you all the reasons why they can't.
My gym clothes must be washed separately from the families clothes.
I have had some very weird food dreams.27 -

that there will be one person who makes a big deal out of your weight loss every time you see them that it actually gets irritating as he does it loudly and I don't want all the attention.24

When I first started losing weight, my mother would make a massive fuss EVERY time I saw her. It became extremely embarrassing (and rather tedious) even though a lot of the time it was just the two of us together.
She got over it though, eventually, and now rarely mentions it.13 -
That other people think it's their place to comment on your lifestyle.20

Yes this amuses me as I have lost significant weight and also have been doing crossfit for almost a year and people ask me what I am doing I tell them CICO and exercise, specifically crossfit and they all have to tell me how crossfit isn't safe and how I will get hurt.....The only hurt I feel is from the muscle soreness from workouts. You need to know your own limitations and try not to extend too far.

This one guy just goes too far so now I just avoid him. He told me 9 months ago he was trying to lose weight and hasn't had much success so maybe he overcompensating for his own lack of success

Tbh, I get the crossfit part, the fact you don't feel the consequences now, is just temporary or lucky. That workout style doesn't pay attention to form, which could be damaging in a long term. But everyone is a grown *kitten* adult that can make their own choices. I would say they are trying to help you11 -
That I would be disappointed that I can’t work toward 10000 steps per day this week. Tweaked my knee yesterday when I stepped through leaves and a rock slid a short way. It’s been a year since I was proud of a 1300 step day, in to work and home.11

You'll KNOW you look good, unfortunately sometimes you'll FEEL like you don't. Hmm, weight loss is one thing, now I have to figure out how to be at peace with myself.
I know I'm in the very smallest minority, but I had "thin days", days where feeling thin scared me. It's one thing I had to work through because at the my lightest (still overweight) it was a shock to me and I didn't want it. This lead to a spiral and a large regain... I hope I'll be ready for it when I get back to that weight. Being a "happily fat" person has its downsides.
This time it took me almost a year to lose 60 lbs and I don’t feel weird. I feel like me. I think because the loss was slower so my brain had time to adjust. I’m still surprised by my reflection in the mirror though.

Like they say everyone has an opinion and it all depends on how you do the work and how the box you go to and the coaches handle teaching the movements. I did research on local crossfit boxes and found a reputable one and will take my chances since I am 51 and feeling better than I have in 25 years. There is good and bad in every form of exercise and also each activity has inherent risks, I work as a Physical therapist and have seen more serious injuries from mountain biking, road cycling, skiing and unsupervised weight lifting in local gyms. It is not for everyone but I have found a place where I enjoy and get extraordinary support and I am tired of everyone telling me the risks especially when they have never tried it. I often offer to have them come and try an onramp class as an introduction but haven't gotten any takers.25 -
That's fantastic! I do love these odd NSVs. Another is I nearly always forget when I have a bath that I've nothing to hit the sides with & sort of slip down like an upturned dolphin haha. But when I hurt myself or break something it's a wee bit less fun Though, I am a bit naturally clumsy so I suspect it's amplified!
Definitely the bath thing! It is such a pleasure now to be able to fit all of me in the bath and (except my head of course) under the warm water.9 -

I agree, I know plenty of people who do Crossfit with no injury and I have a friend who owns a Crossfit gym and he is very strict on form. The workout doesn't pay attention to form is very generalized .3 -

CrossFit is designed to be hyper aware of correct form and nearly every coach I've come across prioritizes form over all else. It's just like weight lifting, the workout itself is designed to be done with good form, but if the trainer doesn't coach correct form, or the athlete doesn't prioritize it, there will be consequences. It's not like if you go to a crossfit gym some external force is going to demand that you work as fast as possible, disregarding form or ability level... You set your own pace and weights. Like you said, we are grown *kitten* adults who make our own choices. Can't blame a workout style for poor choices.8 -
A little pick me up story. Our family went to dinner one night and the waiter took us to a table and not a booth. (I hate tables - you always bump your chair and stuff into the people seated behind you) When we were seated, I looked up and was surprised that I had more room. I commented that the tables must be farther apart than normal. My 16 year old son spoke up and said "yea its a little different when you are not as big as the table". He meant it well and what a major "ah ha" moment that was. I actually ordered a lighter meal than i had planned because of that comment and felt pretty good!!41

I stay home in the summer too, but I do find it harder to lose in the winter. I'm less motivated to move when I'm cuddled up in a warm blanket, not to mention that most major holidays as well as birthdays in my family take place in during winter.4 -

It got warm for exactly one day here and I went out running for the first time since September. It's back to rain and sleet until Saturday3 -
You will become a little dependent on the app/apps you use to monitor your food and exercise. I am constantly using MFP as a guide to make better food decisions - it always helps to know how many calories/grams of trans fat/ milligrams of sodium are in something before you decide to eat it.
I'm also checking my Fitbit to make sure I have met my step goal or get 250 steps per hour during the day. I find myself getting up for water more frequently during the day to get my steps. If I'm close towards the end of the day, I will go for a walk around the block or march in place until I hit my daily step goal.18 -

We have a Dyson upright vacuum, and I'd just emptied the canister and left it in the kitchen while I went downstairs to switch out laundry. When I came back up, I had a bundle of sheets in one hand and rather than trying to bend over the bundle in my arms to pick up the canister, I basically did a walking lunge to pick it up and carry everything upstairs. No one told me I'd be integrating basic workout moves into my basic housework!
