What nobody tells you about losing weight

My feet are slimmer and no longer puffy looking!! Now if that effect could only spread to the rest of me....19

I never stop seeing fat everywhere on my body, however I'm already at a healthy weight...18

That you would have to buy new Pajamas. After 66 lb loss I couldn’t keep the pants on anymore. They had drawstrings and were still falling off of me. My workout yoga pants are too big and baggy too. Awesome problems to have.25

Your rings fall off! None-scale Victories!!!
You realise.. you actually do have a hip bone.
You walk past a mirror and have to take a second look.. to make sure it is you.
When laying on your back.. you actually have a concave belly.
Your belly button get shallower.
Your clothes melt off!
Me too.. cold all the time!
Life is awesome!25 -
I’ve only lost 19 pounds and I’m freezing too! I’ve always run warm but lately I’m always cold.10

EatingAndKnitting wrote: »How flat my boobs were going to get. I'm losing 150 pounds and already had long, saggy boobs, but they were very full. I was in a HH cup with a huge band. Now they are like an inch and a half thick, and I am in a six inch smaller band and DD cup with no spillage. Yet the length hasn't shrunk at all. It's annoying. I don't ever expect to have small, cute boobs. I just don't like them hanging halfway to my waist.
At least a mammogram will be easier. They are already flat. Lol.
I had a breast reduction to fix that. Ymmv but insurance covered it because (mental picture time) the pendulum effect was bad for my upper back. Best thing I ever did.15 -
So I'm done with the weight loss. Some people around me make a BIG deal any time I eat anything ''unhealthy''. I CAN have 2 cookies thank you very much.42

What nobody tells you about losing weight-
You will probably fall back into bad habits.
I've been consistently losing weight for the past almost year. I never gained a pound back, I was determined. But for the last 2 weeks I have not only been over my calories to lose, but over my calories to maintain. I made so many new habits but none of them overrode the habit of overeating.
These are the times that make or break us. Here's to turning this ship around and getting back on track!45 -

@whosshe Could be a lot of reasons for this of course, but maybe your body wants a break? According to this thread there are lots of reasons to formally take a break and not try to 'white knuckle it' to goal weight, which is particularly tempting as we get close to goal: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10604863/of-refeeds-and-diet-breaks/p1. Something to consider if you get frustrated?10 -
You may end up hitting a size quicker than expected. Not sure why but I'm almost ready to go down to size 8 in jeans which I haven't been in for about 20 years and 35 lbs ago. It's really throwing me off because I expected once I lost this weight I would be about a size 8 and a M top, but it seems like its going to be less than that at this point- but again who knows really, I'm not complaining17

Sizes are not what they used to be (assuming you're in the US). A size 8 back in the day is now a size 6, maybe even a 4. So when you wind up at goal in a size 4 or 6, you are really at your old size 8. I kept a skirt I had from the early 90s. It's a size 6. It's so small. If it were in the store today it would likely be sold as a size 2. Vanity sizing sucks.16 -

Seriously. I was at Target yesterday for the first time in a looooonnnggg time and tried on a shirt. I’m currently 5’6” 175#. The shirt was a little tight in the neck and chest but it still fit for the most part. Label? XS. Wut? What universe is this?10 -

On the flipside, you can be an 8 in one style of jeans (which I currently am) but a size 10 in another can make you feel like a sausage about to burst from its casing. Soooo not fair.

Nobody told me that the fat girl sleeping positions would not be comfortable for the less fat! I used to sleep on my stomach with my head on a flat pillow. Now it just hurts my neck. So now I try to sleep on my side but unless I put a pillow between my knees it's uncomfortable too. There is less fatty thighs keeping the joints separated.
My mattress is still quite new and flipped regularly. I will find the right position.12 -
1.That losing it was the easy part!
2. your body changes!
3. Keeping it off becomes the REAL fight! ( Definitely not something the weight loss industry tells you )
4. Some of the best info available is from body builders. IE Layne Norton, Paul Revelia.. JAmes Kreiger15 -
Bones - hip bones getting in the way of pilates as I have lost padding - making getting comfortable in the bath difficult too
Smaller feet - bonus
Swilling around in surplus skin that is like a deflated balloon and needs ironing - everywhere - unbelievably horrid and a constant battle to keep going in spite of hating my body more now than I have ever done. And yes I am doing all the exercise and toning of muscles I can.24 -

I was told by big weight-losers to give your body a year to adjust and absorb/use/tighten the loose skin.
Helps to body-build muscle to take up some space.
I think swimming is the best exercise for overall body toning loose skin. I suspect slow working the subcutaneous muscles evenly helps and I’m definitely slow putting in time over speed lol.17 -

I love to swim and had fully intended to do more as summer approaches, but no way in hell am I going out on a beach in public or a pool for that matter like this .................... I cannot even wear sleeveless clothes or short skirts, in fact I have to cover up more now than I did when I was carrying the weight.

I can't tell. Are you bragging or complaining? lol
haha i missed this. Absolutely complaining. It is not a good thing4 -
I didn't realize that you can get pins & needles more easily with less fat to cushion your blood vessels. It happens way more when sitting or sleeping, or even just leaning on my elbow funny.4

I hear that - but - there is hope. I got some swim leggings and a swim-shirt.... I wear those. Google swim leggings...
Good Luck!14 -

Had no idea those existed (swim leggings). Checking them out. The things you learn on MFP!6 -

They have swim everything. A lot of ladies cover up completely for religious reasons.8 -

Or for sun protection. As a redhead, I can't wear a typical swimsuit without becoming a crispy critter. I like the Modest Sea brand. My suit is like a minidress with leggings.8 -

That's what I thought, size 8. But I got down to size 4. I am not complaining, I love it but it was unexpected.
Also, sad to say, expect people wanting you to fail. The same thing happened when I quit smoking almost 10 years ago. Lots of people wanting you to have "just one", "are you sure?" and stuff like that.
All the clothes, underwear, bras had to go, everything was falling off (I was sz 12 before losing).
Shoes flipped and flopped.
And you really have to work hard on your calories all the time. I let loose and gained 13 lbs, even though I exercise 5-6 times a week and walk everywhere.

I didn't realize that I would be so cold.. all.. the.. time.. I constantly have my heater on under my desk and people complain as soon as they come in my office that it's too hot. And even though it's Spring, I'm still using my car heater and seat heaters. I can not get warm!17

I feel you. I don't actually like summer for that reason. I tend to do a pretty good impression of a mozzarella-tomato salad...
Never considered getting myself swim leggings though.
I'll be off to the stores if anyone asks7
