@cooter_mom‌ welcome to the wide world of outdoor running! You don't NEED that much winter gear but there is so much cool stuff you GET to buy! My running and biking wardrobe is now bigger than my real wardrobe
@shanaber‌ I had never seen a Gila Monster outside of the zoo. I literally turned a sharp corner and, bam, massive lizard staring at me from about three foot away.
Didn't have my camera out at the time but I managed to snap a picture of him as he lumbered into the bushes. wqrfhl1j5a1w.jpg

Um no. Nnnnno. I'd rather have angry runners slam the hood of my car and flick me off than run into this dude. Holy cow.

I actually didn't know what kind of lizard it was right off the bat, so imagine my horror when I looked up Gila Monsters a few hours later and realized they are one of only a few venomous lizards. Sucker could have killed me, had he been so inclined. Luckily for me, he showed very little interest in murder.

Tried some track work at the high school last night. 4x400 @ near sprint pace with 200 yard walk in-between for rest (not counted in mileage). 2x800 @ what I had left pace. The 1 mile run back home about killed me. I passed a gas station and thought about calling my wife to pick me up for a second :) But I pushed through and finished my run.
Now I know why people drive to the track ;)

OMG! I hate wildlife! LOL. I am with @4leighbee on this - I would rather take my chances with crazy drivers and random weirdos on the bike trail! Thank goodness you are ok.

Thank you all for the encouragement. I dont know how to tag to respond personally from my phone so please know you all are very encouraging and keep me going.

I just finished my 1.5 mile run. It is a little cool so I wore a long sleeve gortex (or whatever it is) shirt. It is too tight so I had to wear it under a short sleeve shirt. I was wishing I had not worn it on the way back.
My right ankle is getting sore going up the outside above the ankle bone. I am going to do some extra stretches and foam roll. I always struggle with it burning and feeling tight. Any tips? My shoes were fitted and are new. I ran on a treadmill for them to evaluate me. I am also taking magnesium which is supposed to help sore muscles and joints.
    Have an awesome day!

@SBRRepeat As I mentioned earlier in the thread I don't say Holy Cannoli I said "holy SH!#" and that is what I said when I read this!

@jorocka regional differences are too funny sometimes.

I had a unexpected revelation during my intervals today. Pushed up my last 400 to 8.1 (fast for me) and I thought ... part of my 2015 objective of limiting my races to 5K only is to remember what it feels like to RACE the race again. With the organized training for the half, I sort of work up to just past the mileage required, taper and run the race, hoping to "finish strong." I found a real joy in racing (as opposed to running) ... I remember that and need to experience it again. Does that make sense? I'm pretty excited about this - and have discovered a new motivation for my training. xoxo

I completely understand. I feel like the last 6 years or so (i.e. post kids) I was in a comfort zone of just running a few days a week and being ok with just finishing races/runs. I was also 15lbs heavier then now. The combo of the weigth loss and the inspiration from this thread have done wonders for my mentality. I am finally back at a spot where I actually want to race and am setting time oriented goals for myself. Granted I approaching my marathon next month with a "just finish strong" mentality. But after that I have a couple of lofty half marathon goals. Best of luck to you on your racing goals!

Maybe you need to see @skippygirlsmom‌'s physical therapist! Back surgery would scare the sh!# out of me and I would pretty much do anything to avoid it too.
