We get Netflix DVDs sent to the house ... ours is an old grandfathered plan of $6.51 for two DVDs per month. We like it well enough ... but we're not big movie watchers.
Sylvia ... glad you were able to post! Continued prayers being sent your way.
Lesley ... I agree with the others ... a light by Mildred's grave is a lovely idea.
I was a swimmer in high school too. Our coach's idea of a fun Saturday morning was to put in 7 miles! I can't even Imagine doing something like that now!
Ok girls ... none of you have beat the Buffalo area for snow yet .... remember my first 7 feet was in 48 hours in November! You want to talk about being sick of snow?? It's been relentless!
I've succumbed to bad eating choices for two days now. Girl scout cookie delivery didn't help! I've decided I have to be an "abstainer" for a while as I seem to have no willpower at the moment!
Beth ... Welcome. Are you an Elizabeth or a Beth? I'm "just" Beth. Mom named me after the character in Little Women. I was never thrilled with that since that Beth died prematurely.

My youngest son lives with me, after husband of 38 yrs found someone else. It was hard, but divorce was final in December. Recovered from that, but seeing this year as a new beginning. I want to walk, drive, be independent and on my own. Mostly, I want to LIVE. I must do this for those things to happen. Any encouragement is appreciated! ( I will also cheer you on! ) please friend me so we can communicate easily! My diary is open to friends.0

Sue in SD: Tell us a bit about the Tao of Equus. I may want to read it. Thanks for asking about my lessons. They’re going great. Last week I learned to side pass and took the horse through an obstacle course. We moved a traffic cone from one post to another and then back, opened a gate, went through and closed the gate, and went through a “pond” that was actually a dry child’s wading pool with a little bit of wet dirt in the bottom. Everything was slick and easy except the pond. The horse was afraid of it. We eventually got through it, with some help from my teacher. All of those things were on my starting wish list. I feel like I’m making good progress.
Yanniejannie: I’m so sorry that they’re closing small colleges in Virginia. Is one of them your alma mater? I wish you and the others who are concerned luck keeping one open. My mom was also a Perry Como fan.
MA in UK: Your dog training group sounds wonderful.
Beth: I’m a Girl Scout cookie abstainer, too. I have to leave them at the grocery store door with the girls. I have no control after buying some.
Newbies: Welcome to a great group.
It has been a good day and a full one. I went to Zumba with my neighbor and rode the spin bike to the sounds of the Zumba music while my neighbor and the Zumba class did their workout. Then the spin teacher arrived and put me to work. Yikes! She’s really nice and I like her a lot. She was kind when I couldn’t keep up. After that I walked with my other neighbor and helped DH work on things in our storage unit. I'm pleased with getting so much done.

Yanniejannie - I'm really sorry to hear about Sweet Briar. Several of my daughter's schoolmates went there (her high school was all girls). It has a long history.0

mikesMom1983_ Fermented food is a probiotic which good for the gut. It helps with digestive problems. I suffer from IBS so it helps . I also take a probiotic in pill form.
To be honest I just love those foods along with all types of pickles. I swear sometimes I'll binge on olives before I'll binge on cookies!!LOL0 -
Hello from spring break day 3. Nothing much went on around here other than grocery shopping. DH went out to inspect one of the rentals; the one with all the hail damage. They have a whole crew working on it and all four layers of roof are off LOL. He says the house is about 5” shorter now !!!
My knee is doing ok today. I managed to do 10” on the treadmill and then lift weights. I treated myself to one of those culver’s atlantic cod filet sandwiches and a salad for lunch. The sandwich was really tasty but a bit too greasy and way too many calories. But I only went over by a little.
Janet I’m glad I wasn’t the only one to misread Joyce’s post! Happy spring to you! Sounds lovely there
Katla: your key story reminds me….yesterday I could NOT find my keys. Alena (DD#2) comes home from work and immediately goes to the recycle bin in the garage. There they were inside an empty Kleenex box. I’m not sure what is more disturbing….me putting them there or her knowing exactly where they were. I too am worried about Sylvia.
Margaret I hope you are on the mend now
Carol: I hope your headache is gone by now
Michele: I have looked at the Kashi cereals before and I’m not sure why I never buy them…maybe price? I’ll have to look again. Today I got some instant oatmeal that has more protein than most.
Mary: congrats on the weight loss! I have several baggies of the chicken in my freezer waiting for another salad. I’m surprised it filled me up; salads usually just create a big hole in my tummy that never gets full!
Selena; what a cool experience!
Gilly: keep up that swimming! Such good exercise!
Cynthia: great idea to call that organization. I have to take another clock to a different hospital. The first guy said it needs some parts that have to be hand made and he doesn’t do it nor does he know anyone else who does. So I’m going to try to place my mom always used when she had her antique shop. I had totally forgotten about them. We’ll see what they say.
Suzy: I understand about the job stress. There is so much pressure on all of us to retain 100% of the accelerated students it’s getting crazy. Now we have to have weekly “huddles” to discuss them. No one can expect 100% retention, and my question is why aren’t all the students getting this much attention?
Heather: I’d sure call you a chef…first class! You seem to be able to find all sorts of ingredients that I have never heard of or can’t find here.
Michele: it’s hard to go to work when it’s so distressing
Sylvia: so glad to see you!!! I have been very worried about you. It sounds like things are slowly getting better? I sure hope so!!!!!
Chris: whata darling dog! Woo hoo on that weight loss!
Carey: is that your house?
Holy cow girls I’m snoozing while I try to write! I need to go to bed like an old lady LOL. Sorry I missed many of you. Welcome newbies; you’ll be glad you chose this thread. Off to bed ;on the way I’m hitting the alka selzer because the cod sandwich gave me heartburn omg. Well I had to have one; now I don’t want another one! Take care, Meg from sunny Omaha

An interesting group! Today is my second day and I am determined to get fit and healthy again! Deb. Jamestown, ND0 -
Did 1-1/4 hr of "10 Pound Slimdown" DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a DVD that I have for the rebounder, then volunteer at the Green Room. Then stop to get my hair trimmed.
Mary - what a find getting that weight set. Hope you can get it.
Lesley - how wonderful that you got that solar light!
Gilly - Jess decided to get movers. I remember when she first moved into that apt. We asked her about an elevator (which they don't have). As far as living on the 4th floor she said "oh, it's not bad". Well, I think maybe she decided that it really isn't all that great. But she'd never admit it. She is going to get movers. Fortunately, this is probably a one day job for them. Good for you doing all that swimming!
Cynthia - I sent Jess an email asking if she was able to get in touch with the movers before she left for Boston. If not (which is what I think happened), we'll call them. I know that she'd like us to be there, it just frustrates me that I told her that the weekend before is the best for us. She doesn't want to do it them because that is her birthday weekend. Really, if we were up there, we could take her out for her birthday.
Alison - bet you're real glad right now that you invested in that wiring! Do you have it in the gutters, also?
Sylvia - thanks for posting. I was getting concerned (as were others) about you. Please take care of youself
Carey - what a majestic looking house. It WOULD be great if you could restore it.
Chris - wow! I grew up in northern NJ and went to college for a year in Boston. Good for you losing that pound
liz - hello! My daughter lives in Reston. She's the one in Boston right now. I am guessing that she probably left her car at the airport. when she gets back, she's going to have a lot of snow to clear off her car! I know that sauerkraut is high in sodium, are all fermented foods like that?
laurie - hi there
Carol in NC - fantastic that you're getting such a good amount of money!
Had Newcomer bowling tonight. This afternoon I made Irish shortbread cookies to take to rumikub Tuesday and also these lemonade cookies to have at mahjongg here Monday.
Lesley - how neat that you learned so much about your ancestors. My grandfather on my mother's side just disappeared. What we think happened was that someone stole his paycheck and then threw him into an opened coal mine. I understand that he wasn't the type of person just to not come home. I tried to locate SOMETHING about him, but wasn't successful
dinobomp - how curious. We'd love to have ya. Guess it just worked out. Come back often
Beth - I have to buy the Girl Scout cookies that Vince likes that I don't. Otherwise, I'd eat the entire box
Kathy from Alabama - we're certainly open to everyone and anyone
Meg - I thought the max layers of roof you could have was two
Deb - welcome to a fantastic group
Don't know where the time is going to. Not a whole lot of time tonight.
Michele in NC0 -
Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding.
Good Evening, ladies.
MM, I was reading your post about being in pain and then you said you were going back out to shovel. OMG, that makes me hurt for you. I hope for all of you that the weather will change soon.
Toni, thanks for your kind words. I love your goals. Every time I read them they give me a lift. (And that’s not easy at my weight.)
Carol, that is way cool that you got paid more than double what you were going to ask for!! Good things go to good people.
Laurie, welcome. Don’t let the fact that it seems we are all longtime friends, slow you down from joining in. We were all here for the first time at one time or another. Join in and tell us a little about yourself. We are happy to have you.
Sue, thanks for the smile. I’m picturing the poor, cold robins wearing their earmuffs.
Katienurse, welcome. We are happy that you are here, too. Come often and join right in.
MA, sorry to hear about your tooth. I think I have a couple of crowns from when my daughter was a baby and that was 42 years ago. Is that possible??
Pip, you bumped me right off my chair with all that bumping earlier.
Beth, I have to be an abstainer, too. I can resist the things I really like, but if I eat one, I somehow think I can eat another. And another. And anther.
Dinobomp, welcome to this group of lovely ladies. You will find us very supportive and also pick up lots of useable information. I will tell you that it is amazing how much better I feel and function since just losing 38 pounds.(Still have over 40 to go.) We are with you all the way, so good luck on your journey.
Katla, it sounds like you had a very good day as well as productive. Good for you!
Kathy/ALA, you are most welcome to join us. You actually did so by posting; that’s all it takes. Come often and post whenever you feel like it. It is a very supportive group of ladies.
Deb-ND, welcome. This is a great place to get support and useful information. We are happy to have you with us.
Here’s just a thought I got from Snoopy: A positive attitude may not solve all your problems but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.
My word #1 is savor. I have to slow down and savor every bite.
#2 is opportunity. Each day offers new opportunities for good health and happiness if we just look for them and choose them.

SYLVIA! So glad you were able to check in. We have been so worried. So I take it that they did not do surgery and are trying to take care of the blockage conservatively. Well good luck with that. I guess if they think it is open just a little bit they don't need to do surgery. I'm sure you will find it strange but one of my favorite things to do in nursing, and many a nurse would trade some task of mine, was to put in those stomach tubes. I was very proud of myself at how easy I made it on the patients. The key was to make sure they knew what was going to happen, how it was going to make them feel while I was going to do it and then have them slowly sip water while I was putting it in. In all my years of nursing, I only had one patient actually request one being put in. But it was one of the only things that would give her any relief.
Mr. Sun is doing a good job in melting our snow. 8 inches last night and wonderful sunshine today and all day tomorrow. Many sidewalks are clear. My daughter had 20 inches in Ky.
So glad to see so many new people. Welcome all. Tell us a little about yourself. To the one who lives near the DC area you have to tell us how the bus line (?) was down and that was how she found us.
Loved the old stone house but I love stone houses anyway. They just have so much charachter

Hi! I'm new to my fitness pal and about to turn 50 in April. I love reading your posts and look forward to more to come. I need to lose 20 pounds and with Bar Method and a half marathon in June I'm fired up! ThanksLadies

Thanks for the nice welcome. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all. I'm still happy to honor any friend requests. My food diary is open; I think it's interesting to see how we all choose different things for our daily logging. Sometimes I get a good idea of something good I hadn't thought of, too!
Welcome to all the other newcomers, also. Have a Happy Friday, everyone!0 -
Ma in UK - reading about the dog training brought back memories of when my daughter was in 4H she showed our collie and St Bernard. That was a fun time. Sorry to hear about your tooth!
Lesley - interesting to hear about your ancestor research.
Beth in WNY - love the girl scout cookies! We use to play poker with them as chips and it was a very fun pot to win.
Dinobomp - welcome! Just join in whenever you can! Sorry to hear about your ex. You will get a lot of support here from all the ladies.
Katla - glad to hear that you can enjoy going to the gym with your friend still. I have never been on a spin bike!
Kathy from Alabama - welcome! Tell us about yourself.
Meg in Omaha - that fajita chicken salad is very filling I think because of the right mix of ingredients. Have a relaxing spring break!
Michele in NC - I bought the squat rack and weights! My DH helped set it up. He even has plans to use it with me. Prior to getting it he wasn't interested. I'm amazed at the variety of your exercises. Do you watch on line or do you have all the DVD 's?
Joyce in Indiana - glad to hear that your snow is melting! Spring is on the way!
Angiemjohnston - glad you are here! Good luck on your reaching your goals.
Well we bought the squat rack and weights. Itis set up and ready to go. Day 3 of strong lift 5 X 5 tomorrow. I am so glad I have every thing here at home. I really am an at home exerciser! Well time for bed.
Have a great night everyone!

Meg - I buy nearly everything on Amazon apart from fresh stuff. I think I find eating healthy much easier because I really enjoy every morsel that passes my lips. If my food is bland I tend to go looking for something else to tickle the tastebuds! If it is delicious I am happy and satisfied.
Heather0 -
Been busy the last few days. I've read to page 6th and will have to catch up some more tomorrow.
Sylvia- Wishing you good heath.
Carol - It is good to hear that you are finding peace and releasing stress.
Kim- The quilt you are building is very special. Judy will be thrilled when give it to her.
There's no way I could read all the posts until now. I will be back at it tomorrow.
Trying my best to keep up. A couple of stressors have shown up. 1. My friends' daughter tried to kill herself while my friend was in Vegas celebrating her 50th birthday.
So young - 12 yrs. old. RCMP are checking her IPod. They know there was bullying.
2. DS continues to have to deal with "Crazy" . Some of these stunts! For now it is 50/50 custody with a bunch of stipulations. 3. DH is going to Saskatoon for a memorial for his cousin who fought with leukemia for almost 4 yrs.
For today I will hold my head up high. For today I will treat people with kindness. For today I will compliment more people. For today I will put some fun in my schedule.
I will be back tomorrow and hopefully catch up with you all.
Sharon in Alberta
Be gentle with yourselves and each other.

What a lot of water babies on here. Cindy, I will do a mile real soon, I am sure.
I am just getting ready to start my journey to Birmingham. Three busses, two trains and the tube across London, it will be a long day but worth it. Look forward to catching up with you all next week. Good luck everybody!
Gilly, Suffolk, Uk0 -
Good morning everyone!
Katla, Tao of Equus is definitely worth it. Loosely: it’s about the astoundingly intimate relationships humans and horses can have. I think you’d be interested in it.
Meg: weird story about those keys, lol!
Michele: ancestors were often abducted by aliens.
Joyce: sounds like you were a good nurse.
Swimming: I did a mile once in college. I was so proud! I was never a fast swimmer, but I had the endurance built up some.
Hope we all have a good day.
Cynthia :flowerforyou:

morning ladies,
got a good nights sleep.. and will be hoping in the shower and the gas guy will be coming to get the gas to the range..
then I dont go into work until 2, I have only been over twice this week to see my DFIL as the weather has been so bad.. cant go this morning because the guy will be here at breakfast time, and then tomorrow I have to work until noon, and then have a contractor coming around noon to give us a quote on refacing the cabinets.. sometime over the weekend I have to grocery shop too..0 -
Love the old stone house! Waking up here to another day of leak problems in the living room due to an ice dam! Apparently the phones of all the repairmen have been going crazy -- hope we can find someone today to look at it soon. It is zero so the drips have stopped but that also means that the outside ice cannot melt. Have not lost any weight this week because it is impossible to me to exercise with a cold/cough, but at least I did not gain anything; sticking to 1200 cal or slightly above. Have a great weekend, everyone!0
-
Bkrimpet~ we invested in roof /gutter wiring. and it has been a God send.. we to had leaks,it cost us about 1,000 with installation ,and it doubled our electric bill the past month, but it has saved our roof and walls from ice...
the wiring goes into the gutter a about a foot up the roof line and is plugged into its own circut, does the job beautifully...
just waiting on the gas guy and then, you know what, I think I am going for a mani/pedi,I need something0 -
I haven't been here since page 3 no way i'm playing catchup. I need to be out of the house by 8:30 an appointment with foot doctor at 9. Then I think i'll hit someplace for coffee. Maybe even go for a walk at arena being i'm up town anyhow.
Katla
What a good productive day. For yourself all that exercise.
Then more exercise helping hubby. Keep at it.
Janet
38 lbs is a big accomplishment don't put it so lightly.
Be proud of the hard work you did to do it.
Allison
Life often gets in the way of our good intentions. I'm sure father in law will understand. You are so very good to him.
Well guess i'm out of here for now. Going to hit the shower and get ready to boogy.
See you all lighter.

What part of Alabama are you from? I was raised in Russellville AL, we now live in Fayetteville TN, I worked in Huntsville Al.

Hello, everyone! I am Nena and two years ago I downloaded the fitness pal app and over the course of twelve months went from a little over 200 lbs. to 160. It was not my goal (150) but at age 57, my body told me that I was a-ok right there. I managed to keep steady, keep up with my exercises and healthy food choices until October when my mother fell ill and my life was turned upside down. My mother passed away in early January and I have been comfort/stress/grief eating and am now up to 175. I have been trying since last week to get back on track but I need help. First step is admitting it, right? I will be leaning on this thread to get my fat rear end in gear so here I am! --- Nena coming to you live from the armpit of the great USA...New Jersey.0

Carey – the stone houses are so beautiful. We have one near here also. DH remembers going to visit his school friend who lived in it. Pretty cool!!
Tracing your family roots is a very time consuming hobby… and can be very rewarding.
Sylvia – ((((hugs)))))
Grandmaille – Yup…I know the feeling – I tippy toe around and still get crap from all sides and never know why or what I did to deserve it!! One of these days ...
Janet – I LOVE IT…going to take it to work…..A positive attitude may not solve all your problems but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.
Sharon – so much drama going on (((hugs)))
Linda – take care – and yes I see the east is warming up… I hope all that melting snow will have a place to go!!
Seeds – someone was buying seeds…!!! That means spring….. Forecast is for rain today – doesn’t that mean spring HA ha ha ya right!!! Yes I think I should be starting my tomato plants pretty soon. I wonder where my seed box is. Somewhere in my still not finished basement. DH bought baseboards for the 2 bedrooms yesterday. DS is coming to help lay floor in the second bedroom on the weekend.
Still have my darn cold….
Welcome to all the newbies.
Take care everyone

Wow! I'm have a very difficult time reading through so many posts. I'm now two pages behind.
Went to see my mom in the nursing home yesterday. It is 80 miles from my home. The weather was so wacky....left Atlanta at 51*, got to Forsyth and it was 76*, returned to Atlanta and it was 47*. This AM is 28* with snow flurries.
Sylvia, so sorry you are having to go through this ordeal. Prayers that you will fully recover soon.
GrandMallie, sorry about your work situation. People can be so unkind. Just hold your head up high and try not to let those folks get to you.
I am constantly amazed to read about all the exercise you ladies do. I really admire your hard work.

Where is exercise called "clearing snow moderate intensity?"
Had a good day yesterday, under my goal on cals and a decent stationary bike workout. Getting stronger but cramping up. Maryland is lovely with sun and snow this am
