Would love to join your group, looking for people who are committed to this weight loss journey. Here is a little about myself, I joined MFL in June 2014 at 270.4 pounds and as of today i am at 188.6 pounds. I want to lose another 50 pounds. I am hoping my the end of June to hit 100 pounds.

    About Me:
I have tried many times to lose weight but never made my goals.
I need to be accountable for my weight loss and becoming a member of MFP has done that for me. I have been married for 27 years and have 3 grown sons.

Why I want to get in shape
I need to lose weight for myself first before I can do it for others. I want to look and feel healthier

    My Inspirations
My sons wedding, I want to feel good about having pictures taken of me.
To shop for clothes without thinking about sizes.
To have my Knees feel better so i can jump and run if I want to.

WAYTO GO so far!!!!!! Welcome, keep posting and we will keep supporting!!! :0)

Well, I did not care for the new doctor at all. His office staff was rude, 1st strike. The hallways and exam rooms are dark, depressing colors, 2nd strike. There was LOUD country music playing in the exam room, 3rd strike. I waited a full hour once they put me in the exam room, 4th strike. I got sick of waiting, and a headache from the music, so was gathering up my things to leave when the doc finally came in. He was patronizing, condescending, and somewhat disrespectful, calling me "young lady" (he was probably younger than me), and wouldn't listen to anything I had to say, 5th strike. He ordered tests that the cardiologist should be doing later this week (to investigate my heart murmur), and prescribed a med that is not supposed to be given to patients with chronic bowel obstruction, 6th strike.

I didn't know what to do, so I talked to my old doc about it and she thinks I need to keep doctor shopping. She thinks I should hold out for another female doctor, and I agree. This guy just didn't feel right to me. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I just don't think I will ever get to the point where I like him. I had a nice long talk with my old doc. It was my last visit with her, as she closes her practice forever on Friday. I going to miss her.

Well, I'm going to bed. Good night all.

    Tonight's joke of the day:

    :)

Attending a wedding for the first time, a little girl whispered to her mother, "why is the bride dressed in white?"

"Because white is the color of happiness," her mother explained. "And today is the happiest day in her life."

The child thought about this for a moment. "So why is the groom wearing black?"

Did 10 minutes of pilates, held my plank for 2 min 40 sec and took the extremepump class. The plan for tomorrow is to do a downloadable workout for spinning.

Well, today was one of those mornings. Went to the extremepump class but only stayed for 45 minutes. Then went to the church to count the money they receive from the collection. I guess it normally takes about an hour, but today (of all days) we also had to roll the coins that they had in these "rice bowls". Something the kids did during Lent. Then, we usually start bowling at 1 but today they were giving out awards, etc so we were supposed to be there at 12. Vince left the house and got there on time, said he'd meet me there. I had to come home anyway since I had a feeling that he wouldn't remember to bring my water and carrots (he didn't).

    Margaret
    - that is so terrible about the student you had.

    Heather
    - to me, no amount of free lunch would be worth it to find glass in my food. Even if someone offered me free lunches for a year, it wouldn't be worth it. Glad nothing real bad came of this incident.

terri - sounds like you were as mean a mom as I was!...lol When my daughter did something on the bus (I don't even remember what it was), I called the principal and said that if he wanted her to clean the busses, that was fine with me.

Cynthia - what a bike ride!

    drkatiebug
    - good thoughts for your son

Heather - congratulations! I knew you could do it!

Mary - have fun at the party! Safe travels

littlen - a person joins this group by posting --- so welcome!!!

    matthewsfive - welcome. Great post

Went to mahjongg tonight. Took some chocolate chip cookies to one gal who had rotator cuff surgery and then a pie to the gal whose house we play mahjongg at (her birthday is Friday). Everyone liked the pie. I thought it had good flavor, it wasn't too sweet. Best of all, it was a decent sized piece for only 140 calories.

Now home, will get ready for bed and then watch DWTS.

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding.

    Good Evening Ladies,

Heather, congrats on the button pushing!! Way to go. I hope you are proud of yourself for finishing the book. o:) I think It’s terrific. I know I’m proud of you. (((Hugs)))

NMMargret, so glad you had a good day. It’s nice to hear about positive programs that are working.

Mary, wow, you just got home and have to take off to be with your great nephew. What an angel. Have fun with the birthday boy but don’t eat too much cake and ice cream. ;)

Cutec, I agree that MFP is great and also have been amazed at the calories in things that I used to eat. In fact, I sometimes wonder why I’m not losing pounds by leaps and bounds when I think of the fattening things I am no longer eating. LOL I liked your tips to manage expectations. My favorite is # 5: “ No one person can make us “happy”. Happiness comes from the spirit within.”

Meg, glad to see you and looking forward to seeing you more. I don’t think I could get through a day without visiting this group of ladies. I hope it will help you as much as it does me. So sorry for your knee.

Carol, Yay, you is right! :) Way to go, girl and keep up the good work. Ok, if you can do it, I can do it. In fact, all of us can do it.

Littlen and Matthewsfive, welcome. This is a great place for support and encouragement. Come often and let us know what’s going on with you. Please sign each post with a name you want us to call you and a location, be it general or specific. We are happy to have you with us.

Sylvia, what a bummer about the new, now ex doctor. I’d say that is too many strikes for any one. Hopefully the next one will be the right fit. I hope you cancelled any tests that were ordered? Funny joke, but that little girl is too smart.

Michele, I keep seeing you talk about holding your plank so I finally tried it the other day. Notice the word “tried”. I think I might have held it for 15 seconds. Not sure, it could have been less? I have to hand it to you with all your exercise!!!

    Thought for the day:
    When nothing goes Right....
    Go Left

I hope you all have a healthy and happy day. <3

    Words I live by:
Savor. I have to slow down and savor every bite.
    and
Opportunity. Each day offers new opportunities for good health and happiness if we just look for them and choose them.

:D Janet, the longest journey starts with a single step or in the case of holding a plank, it starts with the first 15 seconds. Keep at it, at the time will increase and your core strength will increase right along with the time.

:'( Sylvia, sorry to hear about the doctor. I am going to remember to be more grateful for my doctor in light of your experience.

:D Meg, it's good to see your smiling face again.

    Hi Everyone
Dreamwritersending hugs and prayers. About 25 yrs ago I read a book entitled, "Women Who Love Too Much" It was a huge help to me. It was written by Robin Norwood. At the time I was in a very difficult relationship and eating compulsively. What I learned reading this book helped me a lot.

Janemartin02 nice to read your post. Settling in takes some time... Be patient with yourself.

ATVer Welcome. Hope your tests went well.

YannieJannie DH and I go on vacation where we have a timeshare unit. Everyday at noon a cannon goes off. I have been going there since 1983 and I still jump when I hear it. Gemma and I have something in common. LOL

Poerava14I have an herb garden at the cottage. Even though I do not garden much, I get such a kick out of cooking w/the spices I grow. I have never tried organic but now you've got me thinking about it.

Damitjanit Hope you are happy w/the A1C test results

Grandmallie Hope you found Some time to put your feet up after such a busy day.

Exermom The Greek pie sound very good. I have never found a recipe for filo dough. Do you have one?

Mollywhippet Even the refund is already designated, I think it is still an accomplishment to have the forms filed before the 15th.

Katla49 150 miles round trip to the accountant. My friends in other parts of the U.S. Tell me that what we consider a long drive in the No. East is short when comparing it to the distances people in the west regularly travel. Guess their right..

Margaretturk Hugs You sounds like you care a lot about each of your students and want the best for them. If you didn't the experiences you have w/them would not mean so much to you.

CityjaneLondon Glad everything worked out for you and you husband at lunch. Glad he liked the surgeon. It is hard not to be a little jealous of your single payer health insurance. Still I'm glad for him and you.

Terri_mom like you I am glad to begin a new week. Let's make the most of it.

Worked in some Adminsitrative tasks today since I had only 1meeting and it was via the Internet. Went for a ride to the cottage w/DH and watched the sunset before we went grocery shopping and got a bite to eat. All in all a good day.

Time for me to say goodnight.

Sharon, I am so sorry that your husband is acting up again. Sometimes I think Charlie gets more and more riled up because I refuse to stoop to his level and get mad or participate in his tiff. I just stay quiet, continue reading or whatever I am doing. I can't remember if you have said anything about whether the doctor has given his a complete physical. Sounds like he has some paranoid tendencies.

Heather, so glad it all turned out OK with the glass in your DH food. If he had swallowed that, oh my goodness. Hurray on pushing that send button!

Allison, one benefit you might get for working with the mechanics is discounted work on your car! I had an incident happen to me at work a long time ago. We had a physician that hadn't crossed the line as being negligent yet but was pretty close to it. So the doctor that was head over the doctors made a rule that any new order this doctor made we had to call him and get an OK. So one night, during which we were having a fantastic run at the NCAA basketball tourney and the head of doctors was there, this creepy doctor calls me and says that a patient of mine had called him because he was so sick, nauseated and in horrible pain. So he gave me some pretty outrageous and dangerous orders. Well I checked on the patient and he was eating pizza, laughing and watching the game on TV. So I dind't carry out any of the orders. So the next day this doctor come up to the unit, looks at this guys chart and sees I hadn't carried out his orders. Our nursing station was a pretty good size station and he is standing outside the station close to the wall of the hallway. I am on the opposite wall on the other side of the station. He starts yelling at the top of his lungs at me, telling me what a terrible nurse I was. He was only trying to help his very ill patient and didn't bother to have the head of the physician board called because he knew he was at this very important ball game. So I tried to calmly tell my side of the story and he said he didn't care about my side and only wanted his dear friend taken care of. He was really, really yelling at this time. The secretary had called for the shift supervisor to come ASAP. When he left I was hidden in the bathroom crying my eyes out. I called my husband up and told him what happened and he actually called this doctor and told him that he didn't want to see him walking to his car from his office, he might just run him down!!! Anyway, back to the story. All the patients on the floor had either come out of their rooms or their family had. So the rest of the evening, my make patients were very protective of me, my female patients didn't say a word. Oh, the ugly doctor actually apologized to me the next day. Now that news made the hospital grapevine!!! He had never done that to anyone.

Terri Milwaukee, I have often wondered if I look as rediculous as I feel when I try to eat soup after I have had dental work done and my mouth isn't awake yet.

DrKatiebug, years ago, and I mean years, when I was applying for social security disability, I had to get all my hospital and different doctor's records, I paid all that money to get them from the hospital and specialists. Then when I went and got my family doctor's records, all those specialists records had been sent to my family doctor and I didn't need to spend money. Now he charges also.

Cutec, thanks for all those tips. Good things to ponder to keep us in control.

Matthewsfive, you DO NO look like you are 50. You look like you are in your 30's.

Sylvia, you have every right to find a right match for a new doctor. I love my family doctor, wouldn't change him for anything. And since I have had my cervix and uterus and tubes removed, he doesn't even do a pelvic exam. After my surgery, I had to go to my gyn guy every 3 months for a pap smear just to make sure the cancer was gone. I did that for a year and he gave me an all clear.

OK, Charlie. The procedure went fine, he loved the Propofal (Michael Jackson milk) said he knew why it was such a wonder drug. He had 2 polyps which wewe removed and biopsied. But he saw just generalized inflammation through out. So now we have a preliminary diagnosis of moderate to severe ulcerative colitis. This guy retired 4 years ago to enjoy life without stress. Since then he has had a heart attack with 2 stents, atrial fib with angina with 2 more stents, Parkinson's disease and now ulcerative colitis. So that is what retirement does for you. Plus he just now came up to go to bed and said he took 2 nitro while watching TV. Good grief. Why is a man so stubborn. So who knows what tomorrow holds. I was going to go to a Sunday school lunch.

Naomi - most health care is free in Britain under the NHS. (National Health Service) DH was prepared to go privately if the waiting list for this non-emergency operation was too long, but it appears to be ok. It will be day surgery with any luck.

I have had an email from the website and they tell me, now they have reviewed it, I do have to add another blank page st the beginning to correct the pagination. I knew that was an issue, but in their preview they had it arranged as I wanted it so I left it. Grrrrr. Anyway, I will do it later this morning if I can work out how! It's to do with the odd numbers having to be on the right.

I am not sleeping well. Awake for two and a half hours again last night. I know it will settle down soon, but a lot of issues are bubbling up for me with this publishing venture. A lot of it is to do with what people will think of me. For example, I would hate any of my friends on here to be offended by the book. I wrote it over thirty years ago. Times were different. I was different. Younger! Books that were fashionable then, like John Updike or Philip Roth, are not so much now. So I do ask those of you who are likely to be offended by graphic or irreligious material not to read the book. I love you too much to want to upset you. Anyone who is familiar with that kind of literary endeavour, please do. And please spread the word to anyone you know who might enjoy it.
Oh well, enough fear. I've just got to finish the job now, however scared I am.

Love to you all. Heather, up early in the UK

Good morning.....looks like too many posts to catch up with,so will start from here. Weather has been great this wk,80* & sunny yesterday.Took advantage ....of that by doing errands, grocery shopping etc.

Last wk,I spent a couple days...off & on ....sorting&clearing armoire, night stands & laundry area. Then went after my closet. Used the large garbage bag to the point where DH double bagged all the give aways ,trash & "never going to use that again, won't wear that, don't like it "& why did I ever buy that?
A friend of DHs said a lot of ppl who go to AA are down on their luck ....so he takes such things there, free to all.Mine was clean, folded ....3 pairs of nice shoes & 2 Spring jackets included.

One thing sure,it will be a long, long time before I buy any clothes. :) Next wk will be doing the same in the kitchen. The question is....where does all the "stuff" come from?

Still learning what works for me as to eating & maybe losing wt. Except for planned dishes to freeze, cooking mostly meals with no left overs. When making food that can be a problem.....it works to make just two servings.Have ate healthy 90% of the time, but ate too much.

Supper today will be a chef salad ,with small amt of cheese,no meat.....so maybe it's just a veggie salad? DH doesn't like them for a meal,so will find something else for him.
Loved the Masters golf.Just spectacular the way Jordan Spieth played & won.Only 21........great stuff :)

Good eating for the losers ,hugs to those who need them. Pat

:D Katla, we still have our taxes done by the accountant in California who did them before we moved to Washington. We mail all the supporting documents and information to her (we make copies), then she mails the return back to us to look over and sign the the paper authorizing electronic filing and mail that back to her. I miss the pleasant time of talking to her in her office but we exchange e mails if either of us has a question.

:D Heather, Gretchen Rubin said in her blog yesterday that she never reads reviews of her books or comments on websites. She writes because she has something to say and likes to write and doesn't want the critics to determine how she feels about herself.

:D This morning we have our yearly "date" to drive to the next town to the courthouse to pay our property tax. It's a custom we created for ourselves years ago and adds to our joy of home ownership.

    B) There will be little sunshine here today but probably no rain. I have to remind myself that spring is chilly this far north and all the photos of people in summer clothes in April were taken much farther south. I am planning to have another great day. I did my strength training yesterday so today will be sort of a rest day.

Margaret, I occasionally have bad dreams about classroom situations. It makes me wonder if maybe I was in the wrong career. LOL But, I loved working with the students and seemed to do especially well with the educationally needy ones. I was probably too strict and had many run-ins with parents who did not want their children's behavior questioned.

Sharon, so sorry for your home situation. I hope it gets better and that the counseling helps.

Went to see my mom yesterday and she seems to be finally adjusting to the nursing home although she still says she wants to go home. It will be a year in May. Another client in her room was a doctor's wife from our home town. She seems to have dementia, too. I wanted to take mom out to eat but my sister did not want to get her out. I hope my brother follows through on taking her for a ride next.

I was 3 pages behind so won't comment as I can't remember all!

Good morning! I slept better last night, but still feel tired. It's 9AM and I'm still sitting at my desk, not having accomplished anything. This afternoon, 2:00, I have to go with my son to take two kids to the dentist. My job is to sit with one while he's in with the other, then switch off. Oh, and to pay the bill. So I should be trying to get stuff done at the studio, but here I sit. Production mode has not quite kicked in yet. Too many doctor appointments and things to get in the way.

Last night I made baked pork tenderloin for dinner. It was so tender and yummy! I made half with my salt-free seasoning and half with seasoning salt for hubby. Then this morning I made sandwiches for our lunches. I can't believe the price of beef these days! It makes cutting back on red meat easier, that's for sure. Ground chuck was $5.29 per pound! Round steak (the cheap cut of beef that we got as kids because we couldn't afford the good stuff) was $7.99! EEK! The pork tenderloin was only $3.99. It's so easy to get sticker shock at the grocery store.

Well, I should go try to do something constructive. I hope you are all having a great day!

Heather: I can hardly wait to read your book! I will remember when you wrote it as I read. Back then I was a new mom. That baby just gave me my second grandchild. I was a different me, just as you were a different you.

Meg: It will be great to see your posts more frequently.

Matthewsfive: Welcome. It sounds as though you’ve already accomplished a great deal. This group of women is exceptional.

Sylvia: I love today’s joke, but not your visit to the prospective new doctor. It sounds like the doctor was an arrogant dumbbell. Better luck next time. Can the doctor who is retiring recommend someone? DH’s doctor did that for him and set him up in practices that were not actually taking new patients. His new doctors are great. I’m medically easy so I had to find my own. I asked friends and neighbors for recommendations. I now go to the same doctor as my neighbor. She is a B+ doctor, and that is really good enough since I’m relatively easy. As time goes along, we’re getting to know one another and things are improving. After hearing about your experience I may nudge her rating up a bit. We did google doctors when we were looking and found there are on-line rating systems where patients get to praise or criticize. Here is a Kansas City link:
    http://www.healthgrades.com/group-directory/kansas-ks/
This one is for a specific practice and is what I found first. http://www.healthgrades.com/group-directory/kansas-ks/overland-park/midwest-heart-vascular-specialists-585e7c60

Naiomi: We “inherited” this accountant firm from my mom who lived in the town where they’re located. At the time, we lived less than 45 minutes away. They do a great job and we aren’t inclined to change.

Pat: I was also an overeater of healthy foods. Portion control has saved me.

Barbie: We’re in this situation because DH was a little tardy getting things done. With all of his health issues, I’m not going to berate him.

DH and I were both sick yesterday, which is all we need when we have to make a long car trip. We need to get moving, but if we left right now it would put us in Portland rush hour traffic. We’ll wait a bit and travel after the rush. We both were sick last night, and I’m not doing too badly this morning. If he isn’t well enough to go I’ll have to handle it. Yikes! This would require me to be the grownup. I expect I’ll have to assume the responsibility some day but I hope it isn’t today.

    Happy Tuesday ! ! !

Carol - Congrats on the NSV. Avoiding stress-eating is difficult, and you should be proud.

Naiomi - New Week ! Yay ! Let's do this together. I ate brussel sprouts and pumpkin/turkey chili for supper last night. :)

Heather - Congrats on keeping the forward motion for your writing. I hope you write for yourself, and I'm looking forward to reading it, whether I become offended or not (probably not).

Today our network is down, so I can't get any work done. I just keep clicking the refresh button, hoping to sneak in as soon as it is fixed. The patients are struggling to understand, so I keep a smile on a face (and in my voice) and do my best.

I didn't make it to work in time for my work-out, and I need to work through lunch a few times to make up for leaving for the Dentist later today, so i have to really watch my calories. Plus I am donating blood again Saturday, so I have to consume enough protein. I am ready for the challenge.

Today we have nice weather. Sunny and 57 so far. I hope it keeps up, since DS has baseball practice or scrimmage almost every day/evening.

Mail just arrived, so I can do some work now.

    Hugs for Everyone ! ! !
