smiley-happy110.gif One of the most exciting experiences I had on my weight loss journey before I got to my goal weight was to go shopping for clothes and not cry in the changing room. That happened several sizes before I reached the size I am now. There are so many happy milestones along the journey. Each of us has some that are very personal and may not happen to others. It has been important to me to enjoy the journey and not just look to the goal as my source of happiness.

Terri: My iphone 5s counts my steps. It seemed to do it automatically as part of its correspondence with MFP. I record all of my food and exercise on the iphone. I don’t think it does the same quality of counting you would get with a fitbit or other purpose made device, but I don’t need more than it offers. I also don’t carry it all of the time.

Jane: Good news about your mom. Congratulations!

    Selena: MENOPALS!

Bkrimpet: I’m glad you enjoyed the article on anxiety. It certainly provided insights that I’d never have thought about on my own and I found it very positive and encouraging.

Yesterday was gorgeous and today is gray and a bit chilly. I’m glad that I went to the fitness club today, and checked the fit of my spin bike according to the advice from Pip. It was close to right so I had little to do but burn calories. I had a good time in spin class and am grateful for the chance to burn calories with like-minded women..

Question: cell phones and breast cancer ... Is breast tissue more susceptible/sensitive to a cell phone's radiation? What about areas next to your pockets? Just wondering...

    Hello Losers!

I have been to Vegas in July for the last 4 years. I go for dance nationals with my DD. Our whole family (DH and 2 DS's) have gone some years as they have added zip lining, M&M and Coke Cola stores are fun, and a drive to water park.

I have been there when it was 118 degrees, and last year it was high 80's low 90's. Either way there is so much to do, everything is air conditioned, and you can avoid walking outside till the sun goes down and it cools off some. Since it's a desert climate the air is dry so bring lots moisturizer! Vegas has huge inside shopping and places to eat that go on for miles at Paris, the Venitian and Ceasers Palace. It's a great way to get your steps in

Carol - Being the getaway driver sounds like a really fun thing to do, especially with your daughter. I bet you have some good laughs together about your adventures.

Lisa? from Texas - Oh gosh, I can't imagine you being judged for a choice you made that you felt was best for you. It's funny, how people try to make sense of things in their own minds based on their own personal experiences, and will legitimize (or not) different decisions/behaviors. I'm thinking of some of the best people I know, who also happen to be addicts that have come to 12 step meetings my husband and I have led for 3 years. Once in a while, we'll have one confide their feeling that an addiction other than theirs isn't really an addiction. All I know is, I've seen the same pain and anguish over drugs/alcohol/porn and an equal desire to get well. I see your situation the same way. I got yo' back, sistah (along with a lot of other capable ladies here, I suspect) Oh, and when I used the phrase "swing a cat without hitting..." today, I wondered if anyone else says that. :)

Michele - What if you did the alternating colors on the turtle and then ones that don't fit become a combination of the 3 colors in a pattern of sorts (swirls for e.g.)? I hope that makes sense. Whatever you decide, I know it will be bright and fun like your mantis and ladybug.

Heather - My daughter found something cool on pinterest for me on book promotion. It's great, but the website it comes from has a ton of excellent ideas as well. Thought you might want to check it out http://infographicaday.com/book-promotion-infographic-10-book-marketing-tips/ Hope there are some ideas that you'll find useful :)

Speedracer and Marlene - Welcome! You're in the right place for friendship and support.

    That is all. Goodnight!

These were the jokes from yesterday ( not sure if I posted them):

    :)

A guy is passing a Mental Hospital surrounded by a wall and he hears the chanting inside, Thirteen! Thirteen! Thirteen! Curious to see what’s going on he finds a small hole in the wall, so he bends and peeks inside. Someone inside pokes him hard in the eye and everyone starts inside chanting, Fourteen! Fourteen! Fourteen!

    :D

A young man was walking through a supermarket to pick up a few things when he noticed an old lady following him around. Thinking nothing of it, he ignored her and continued on.

Finally he went to the checkout line, but she got in front of him. "Pardon me," she said, "I'm sorry if my staring at you has made you feel uncomfortable. It's just that you look just like my son, who just died recently." "I'm very sorry," replied the young man, "is there anything I can do for you?" "Yes," she said, "As I'm leaving, can you say 'Good bye, Mother'? It would make me feel so much better." "Sure," answered the young man.

As the old woman was leaving, he called out, "Goodbye, Mother!" As he stepped up to the checkout counter, he saw that his total was $127.50. "How can that be?" He asked, "I only purchased a few things!" "Your mother said that you would pay for her," said the clerk.

Thanks all, I'm back home and happily ensconced on the loveseat with the hubster.... glad the gastric bypass is out front. Just not comfortable without full disclosure. I'm working on a book about my experiences with it, and what it's like ten years out.

But that's not why I'm here. I'm here to remember it's calories in, calories out. I cannot continue to take in more than I burn and pretend it won't matter. My mother had her first heart attack when she was 51, and her second when she was the same age I am now. And she died of a stroke.

I just held my brand-new granddaughter in my hands when she was a few minutes old last month... and I want to see her graduate high school... and college... and get married... and I want to hold her moments-old baby someday....

    That's why I'm here.

Thank you all very much for the support. It's very much appreciated.

Tried my best but couldn't read all the pages. Sorry I've been MIA for a week. Had to have a tooth pulled and some other dental work but think I am done now. Had rainy, cold weather for several days. Will try to keep up this time.

:) Lisa, I'm happy to see you here and hear your story. I have known many people who have had weight loss surgery and some have gained back a lot of weight because they didn't find a solution to their eating disorder. The ones who have succeeded have found a way to change the way they eat as a lifelong way of life. There is no easy solution. Each of us has to create a new life eating and exercise plan and find a way to stay with it one day at a time. This thread is a great part of my plan.

Lisa, I'm glad you're here with us. I personally think the bypass is the harder route to take. I didn't have the guts to do it myself, but I'm in awe of those who were able to make that decision, knowing it was the best for them at that time. I'm here because of a heart scare myself, and decided it was lose weight of die. It might not have come to that if I had been able to do what you did.

I've had a little experience with javalena pigs too. In the Air Force I was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. We patrolled two annex areas, one called Medina (where the officer training school is) and one called Camp Bullis, where we did combat readiness drills. Both had areas that were rustic and wooded, and both had pigs. One night at Medina, one of the other patrols called for help. When we got there, his Jeep was turned over on its side and he had scrambled up on top of it, and he was surrounded by angry pigs! He swore they turned his Jeep over. I have my doubts, but I know he was tormenting them (he was that kind of guy). And some of those pigs were VERY big, and very mad! I wish they had cell phone cameras back then. That would be on youtube.

We bought a camera tonight for the trip to Spain, and looked at notebook computers but didn't buy one. We want a small one that is lightweight, has good battery life, and runs Windows. Any suggestions? Both our current laptops are very big and heavy.

    Good night everyone!

    Sylvia

    Hi MENOPALS –
    (Selena, that’s a good one!)

I left the house at 5:30 this morning to work out. Then went to my old school to help proctor for the achievement test. Rushed home to cook our dinner (lunch). Then off to work until 7:30. Busy day for this spoiled retired lady. I’m sure it was still only a fraction of what Michele, Sylvia, or Allison do on a regular basis.
Joyce – just saw the ad for the Thunderbird coaster on TV. You wouldn’t really ride that would you?

Janet – Congrats on the progress you are making to free yourself of that nicotine!

Lisa – Thank you for sharing about your journey. I think you have a great attitude and quirky sense of humor. You are definitely in the right group. About javelinas – I’ve never seen a real one but when I taught first grade my favorite version of “The Three Little Pigs” was called “The Three Javelinas”. The bad guy was a coyote! So clever.

    Carol – 14,000 steps! Wow!

Pip – only you could do that Vegas run! If we do all meet up – no falling down on your run! Okay?

Jane – so glad your mom is better.

Barbie – “Enjoy the Journey” is definitely the best perspective. This is a never ending journey but if we approach it with joy it’s a wonderful adventure!

So – hubby just got home from work. He works every single day of the week. Retirement would kill him! This is a new job (at age 74) and he really likes it but he’s so out of step with his old routines. Tomorrow is our 34th anniversary. I asked him when he thought we might celebrate. Oh, dear. He’d forgotten. I swear he was nearly in tears. He is not demonstrative or good at vocalizing what I mean to him, but he always chooses the most wonderful cards. He has a little routine of leaving me one to “find” in the morning. I do the same but my cards are seldom so perfect. That and maybe eating out is our thing. Well, I felt so bad for him and could not hug him big enough.

Think I will get ready for bed. I have a similar day ahead of me tomorrow.

this is a partial post, as I only got to page 42... but I am still out here!
Selena – Nathan did great with the hummies!!!
Mary - great advice to Linda in CA
Sylvia – go to meeting and have dinner together!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the idea! I know go to meeting does the audio, I am not sure about video. Face time requires an Apple product which I don’t have….

Barbie – You can only bring the poodles on the transporter when I am NOT bringing Levi… he is a lovely dog, but doesn’t like other animals.

Margaret – did a family member paint that beautiful picture? What a treasure!

    Lisa – welcome

    April goals:
    Walk every day
    Log all bites everyday
    Eat slower
Plan and do a fun thing every week
Week 1 – went to Hakone gardens it is a beautiful Japanese garden established in 1917 and just amazing.
    Week 2 – easter (?)
Week 3 - leaving in a minute to go to a gardening party hosted by Monrovia Growers that a gal in Garden Club invited and bought me a ticket to go to - a new friend!
Week 4 – back at my hiking club nice to see everyone again and to do the walk without any ankle pain.

Got very busy today! 42 posts behind! We really talk a lot! No phone, got a text from Verizon that we had to go online to authorize the order. DH called and now won't be here until Thursday. No follow through on their part!

Joyce - it's nice to be able to get real food at an amusement park!

Janet - I am going to make it with the yogurt. I'm guessing 125 calories for 1/12 of it. One egg plus .7 Oz of other ingredients. High in protein!

Naomi - I wish I lived in a neighborhood because that would be fun to have lots of yard sales to go to. Glad your ankles are back to normal!

Selena - you Crack me up! MenoPals Lol I will have to read your book as well.

Carol - I heard a long time ago that they thought that the cell phone could cause cancer.

Terri - the Golden Nugget sounds great!

Pip - when we are in Vegas I will bring a first aid kit!

Sylvia - yea! Glad you were able to get your computer going. It sounds like you found the perfect dentist. What a great day you had.

Vicki - thanks for the weed killer recipe!

Lisa - we're glad you are here! We all need support and encouragement through this journey. It is not easy but a lot more manageable with the help of people going through the same thing.

Jane - I am very happy to hear that!

    Meg - great news!

Sylvia - it sounds like you have too much on your mind! And a very busy schedule. I'm getting garlic!

Barbie - thanks! You are so wise!

Katla - you will have to tell me how to get my new phone to count my steps if it ever comes!

TNToni - Happy Anniversary! What a wonderful husband you have! He needed that big hug!

Kim - have fun at your gardening party!

Well I am caught up! Have a great night everyone!

This doesn't answer your question specifically, but should get you thinking about how to manage you cell phones. In your iPhone look under: settings, about, legal and read RF exposure. I haven't included some sections because I thought this was most to the point.

"To reduce exposure to RF energy, use a hands-free option such as the built in speaker phone, the supplied headphones, or other similar accessories. Carry iPhone at least 5mm away from your body to ensure exposure levels remain at or below the as-tested levels. Cases with metal parts may change the RF performance of the device, including its compliance with RF exposure guidelines, in a manner that has not been tested or certified."

I believe RF stands for radio frequency. There is more, but that is the nitty-gritty in my opinion. Those of you with different cell phones should look at yours to find out what they recommend.

Heather, good luck in your traveling. Hope your son is well and you come back nice and refreshed.

Janet, my sister and I used to have yard sales together all the time when our girls were little. Her one and my youngest are only 11 months apart. Anyway, she believed in just putting her clothing, dolls, etc out and wish them good luck. She said she was in it for the fun of being with me for two days. She never made any money since the little amount she got she spent on donuts. Me, I am different. Outfits are cleaned, ironed and pinned togehter. The girls were at the age they were selling their Barbie stuff. So outfits, along with shoes and anything else to go with each outfit was put in individual bags. All children furniture was really clean, sisters had food from 2 years ago still on it. She had a lot of stuff to go to the dump. I made like $200. I was always taking care of the tables, folding clothes up and putting them in appropriate sizes. I don't have enough things to go in a good yard sale now. When I do one, I do a BIG one, clean every drawer, closet, cabinet, everything and really purge with no emotion. Last one I had I made about $500. They are hard to do but I wouldn't be satisfied if I did it any other way. So I think I will put the things I do have in the yard sale the local animal rescue place has every year. You get no profit, there are no prices on anything, donation only. What I have I would only get about $25 at the top and with what you have to put an add in the paper, signs, etc, I wouldn't make anything.

Beth, our state has an online public school. The teachers regularly skype you to help you and assess your testing.

Naomi, I have no idea how to put anything on Ebay or even buy anything there. Would this senior position require a move for you?

Katla, I haven't used my bra for my phone holder since I ruined my phone by doing that. I don't think Christina does it anymore either. Hey, we love you enough we don't mind a double post!!!

MNMargaret, My daughter talks to me all the time while she is driving. Drives me crazy. Sometimes she calls me because she is so sleepy she feels like she would drive herself odd the road. I think she uses a blue tooth now so she is hands free.

Selena, I went to your website, it sounds delightful. So does your relationship!!

Carol, what an exciting job that must be!!! So nice to have a lot of fun with your daughter and make some money.

Sylvia, what a great day with your DGD. I am sure you realize you are making memories for them that they will never forget. Has never seen a Target store???? WOW. So now we can call you an official 'Ant Watcher'. Carol is the official gt away driver and you are an ant watcher. We are a talented group we are!. sounds like your hectic life is catching up to you and is telling you to give it a break a little.

Lisa, we don't judge anyone here in this group. Everyone has their own journey they choose as the best one for them. We support each and every individual person here. We are glad you are here and ish you lock. After you have been with us for awhile, you will realize that many of us has learned so much about ourselves and that is part of the diet process. Sounds like you are right on track with us with that. The reasons you state you are here are the exact same reasons I am here. I also want to lose weight for myself. I am jealous that you got to hold that sweet baby just minutes after she was born. I was there in the room when both of mine were born but the immediately put them in the crib and I didn't hold them until a couple of hours later.

Jane, so glad your Mom is better. Now i jsut wish hospitals sent people home when they are really ready, not when insurance tells them they are ready.

barbie, the last time I cried in a dressing room was when Michelle and I went to Kohls to find me some good size 14 jeans instead of my 'Mom' jeans and instead of getting the 14 I got 12s. I sat there and cried.

Toni, Tennessee, Oh yes, I would and I will! Tennessee isn't that far that you can't come up and enjoy one of southern Indiana's best resources.

Mary, Minnesota, the place we can get a wholesome meal at an amusement park is in the Thanksgiving section of the park and it tried to serve a Thanksgiving type meal. They have the hugest turkey leg. Charlie gets that, I get the roasted chicken.

I pulled my back this morning. I was going to the bathroom in the middle of the night and when I was getting off the commode, I pulled it. Of all things, just going to the bathroom. Rediculous. So Advil and a heating pad have been my close friends today and I have had to stay off the bike.

Good morning everybody, just a quickie here.

    Jane: good news!
Katla: would you mind posting the anxiety link again? I missed it.
Toni: your poor husband! I know you will have a good time together. Happy anniversary!

My two cents on using the phone in the car: don't. Not even handsfree. There are many studies showing that your attention is not on your driving, even with handsfree. I've noticed it myself. I don't think many calls are worth putting your life (or someone else's life!) at risk. (And I'm not anti-phone; I love my phone!)

Hope we all have a good day.

    Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the encouragement re:the senior position. I don't think it would require a move as most of the National Staff live all around the U.S. It would require a lot of traveling. I used to like traveling but have not done much outside of MA in recent years DH does not fly and my work is w/in MA Although I drove 16k work related miles last year.

I'm up & out early today. I am having a cyst removed from my back. I am glad I am finally getting it done.

CynthiaT60I like my hands free and voice activation on my phone. There are times I will not take a call or will cut one short if traffic is heavy. Must admit if I'm stopped on the highway in a back-up returning calls keeps me from being frustrated.

Joyce Sorry re:your back. Glad you're being gentle w/yourself today.

Well got to hit the road.
