'Pulp Fiction': saw it and couldn't figure out why so many people raved about it so I went to see it AGAIN (I do try to be open-minded) and still came to the same conclusion. Lame. Have seen several Tarantino flicks and feel that each one is worse than the last. The only one I liked was 'Natural Born Killers' and I think that was written by Tarantino but directed by Oliver Stone.

IMHO...Tarantino is overrated and uses gratuitous violence for shock value just to get people talking to drum up publicity. Ho hum, how dull. As a viewer, I don't care to be played like that.

    Blasphemy!

    I know right?

WHY and HOW can people find it funny or entertaining?

As for really bad "critically acclaimed" movies... was Bridesmaids critically acclaimed?! Really?

I happened to be in the room while Avatar was playing & I have to say, it was awful. As a rule I stay away from anything that everybody "just HAS to see", and am proud to say I have not seen, nor will I ever see Titanic, The Hunger Games, any of the Twihard movies and half the movies people have mentioned here. I wish Avatar was on that list still, I was just too lazy to leave.

"Titanic" (the most recent) & "Gone With The Wind".

    However, I'd rather read.

I hate hate Titanic but love Gone With the Wind but I laugh through most of it...... I think Scarlet is hilarious and I know she isn't supposed to be.

the remake of the Dukes of Hazard- shouldn't have messed with a good thing the original was better.
Tooth Fairy- Duane Johnson aka The Rock doesn't make a good tooth fairy because the tooth fairy should've been a female.
the remake of Footloose- why mess with an original.

I will never ever watch the remake of Footloose....ever! Why remake it????

Also, Little Miss Sunshine. Forgot that one. :-)

I know there are more, but I try to forget the ones I hate!

As my own rule of thumb, for movies that are based on books, I try to read the book(s) before I watch the movie.

Could not finish watching "Man with the iron fists."

Everything with Will Farrel in it.

I would say everything with Nicolas Cage in it but I'm pretty sure the critics hate him too and I did enjoy "Kick *kitten*" in spite of him.

If it has Nicolas Cage, has it ever been critically acclaimed other than Raising Arizona?
Moonstruck. I actually love those two movies, but otherwise I am not a Cage fan. He's a generally lousy actor.

Oh! How could I forget The Help?

The book was so powerful but the movie turned it all sappy Hollywood. It was a travesty.

Forrest Gump. Granted, I watched it when my world was encompassed in pain because I was recovering from a horrendous surgery. But I hated every single character in that movie.
  • Dark Knight

I thought I was the only one! My husband and I were like, when will this movie end??
Gangs of NY was OK the first time. My husband owns it and can watch it over and over - me, not so much.
Some of the other movies mentioned: I love Momento, I loved and also read The Hunger Games....and someone didn't like The Lovely Bones? Again, I read and loved it. I think American Psycho is only good if you get it. Don't pay attention to the "murders" - it's supposed to be funny! All the 80s "I Love Me" attitude? Hilarious and well done. I've never seen a James Bond movie I liked (my husband is an Aston Martin owner and motorhead, and I have to sit through them all the time).

And I am not a fan of Clint Eastwood OR Al Pacino - Scent of a Woman is the most annoying movie! (I know I'll hear a lot about that one....).

  • Also...Donnie Darko is also one of my favs.
The Descendants was also incredibly boring. (not a Clooney fan)

I can't believe no one mentioned hating Inception. I liked it, but I hear so many jokes about it.

ok, the one I have been the most DAFUQ with is SKYFALL.

honestly. I thought it was really terrible. its about this washed up guy who's seen better days, it looks like they ran out of budget about half way through filming and aston martin pulled their sponsorship or something. I love the guy who plays the villain, but not in this. he looks like the transvestite from rocky horror, and the last third of the movie is just judy dench and daniel craig hold up in big house seemingly waiting for death, and he didnt even take any fricken guns! this guy is fricken useless! then all they could afford was a helicopter and a few explosives.

everyones like "ooooh gritty bond" noooo, he was a sad, washed up wino crying into his low budget whiskey bond who brought an old lady to an abandoned house with no guns and struggled to kill the sweet transvestite joke of a villain.

he may as well have just strapped explosives to a ford fiesta and blown himself up in the first 5 minutes. it would have made a shorter film.

WHY TO PEOPLE THINK ITS GOOD! WHY!

rotten tomatoes thinks its good. honestly. tell me what im missing. it sucked. sucked sucked sucked.

my most hated movie of the past year for sure.

Anything with Sean Penn in it. I've never seen an actor so blatantly chasing Oscars like this guy. Overacts and underwhelms...

I thought the roll of he played in a am sam was very close to what hes like in real life.

I don't put much stock in Rotten Tomatoes after that site panned Hereafter. Reading through the reviews, it was clear the reviewers just didn't get it.

I was drunk, and it still sucked. what kind of movie starts with: THE BEGINNING OF TIME! for 45 minutes.

I walked out. my friend was like "its not that bad" to which I always shout in a scottish accent " the worst movie since THE BEGINNING OF TIME!"

I think tarantino isnt for everyone. but all his movies have really great dialog, I'm not a fan of all of them but damn the writings good. django unchained is a masterpiece. its so well written. I think they could have toned down the spagetti parts a bit, but it was tarantinos tribute to spagetti westerns so yeh.

I know a lot of people would probably not like django, but it really is a masterpiece, great writing and actors at their best - which is why it won Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role (Christoph Waltz) Best Writing, Original Screenplay (Quentin Tarantino). Christoph Waltz performance is probably my favourite of all time. hes so fricken good.

but yeh... its not for everyone.

napoleon dynamite i didn't get straight of the bat. I watched the first five minutes and it seemed kind of crap, i thought it was gonna be like a frat / nerd bully movie so i turned it off cause I'm not into that, and everyone raved about it so i thought it was *kitten*.

but when i got around to watching it, its fricken epic. so funny, but again weird and not for everyone.
