hmmm... not sure on the lap count accuracy from Garmin, a few lengths that were started and stopped midway due to inhaling water, then started again, which may have double counted some lengths? Managed to do a few lengths of freestyle. Although not as smoothly or un-panicked as i would have liked. Pool length 30m.
Half Marathon on sunday. Knee is only just starting to get through a day without too much ache, so i think I'll be good for at least starting the run.

How in the heck is it 90 degrees in the middle of May in Pittsburgh? On the plus side, the humidity was pretty tolerable for my run & bike rides today, and I got in a long 6 mile hike through the woods for good measure so I could stay in the shade.

Pleased with that time. Knee was wrecked by the end of it. Got home and iced. Was looking for sub 2hr (knee allowing), started off at a slightly too high pace but kept with it.

Front wheel on my city commuter needs some serious truing so I'll take it into the shop tomorrow before returning to the warm south. Got in 12 more miles on the bike, and 12 miles of running today despite temperatures in the low 90s. I think I'm going to just settle into 4 runs/week with a 12 miler as my longest, now that I'm done with my marathon, and spend more time on the bike & in the pool.

It's late autumn here ... pitch black and chilly in the evenings now. So getting outside in the evenings is more of a challenge nevertheless, I'll see what I can do. My husband is working on setting up a gym inside, so that will help ... and there are always weekends.
Goals:
Walking: 60 km
Cycling: 300 km
And if I can get in some canoeing and weightlifting that would be a plus.
So, to start ...
May ...
01 Fri -- 3.2 km walking (35 min)
02 Sat -- 37.43 km cycling (120 min)
03 Sun -- 31.04 km cycling (100 min)
04 Mon - 4 km walking (50 min)
Plus I did a 35 min stair climbing workout in the evening. My yard is full of little sets of stairs. The longest one is 7 steps so I mainly focused on that one, up and down, up and down, but I also jogged between the others and did them too for some variety. In total, just over 1000 stairs climbed.
Plus 10 min upper body weights workout.
05 Tues - 4.8 km walking (60 min)
Sub-total:
Walking: 12 km (7.4 miles)
Cycling: 68.47 km (42.5 miles)
Time: 365 min (6 h 5 min) walking & cycling + 45 min stairs & weights
Hmmm ... I haven't logged in here in a little while ...
06 Wed - 2.8 km walking (35 min)
07 Thurs - 5.3 km walking (65 min)
08 Fri - 3.8 km walking (45 min)
09 Sat - 27.5 km cycling (85 min) ... relatively flat ride on the Cycleway
10 Sun - 41.03 km cycling (120 min) ... hilly ride up behind our place 764 metres of climbing.
Sub-total:
Walking: 23.9 km (14.8 miles)
Cycling: 137 km (85.1 miles)
Time: 715 min (11 h 55 min) walking & cycling + 45 min stairs & weights

@csman49 - great job on the half! I aspire to a sub-2 hour half someday....but my Oct half goal is sub 2:15
I had a plan. 6:00/km is my 'easy pace' and i can recover HR at that, so the plan was to get the first 11km done in 1 hour, then the remaining 10km i could sit back on my easy pace if i needed to and scrape inside the 2hr mark. My 10km split was 53'33 and i was just over 11km at 1 hour. Although bizarrely, i thought my starting pace was a little too hot for me, but it turned out to be spot on for my plan, and i was able to maintain that pace throughout.
I was also being careful to run the measured course (corner to corner) so as to not put too much extra distance in, but its hard when there's 10,000 runners. But, my GPS measured at 21.11km so pretty damn close!

@csman49 - I learned the hard way about running the measured course. When I ran my half in Oct, I actually did 13.34 miles. I STILL can't figure out how I was so off that I ran an extra quarter mile! I have been much better in my races since then (only "gained" .1 miles on my 10 mile race, and I KNOW that was due to stopping at every water stop since it was so hot).

Falling behind on my cycling plan, but a few long-rides the next few days should get me back on track. Otherwise ahead of plan for running, lifting, and swimming. Looks like I'll play the June HIM by ear, as I don't want my first to be in 90 degree weather (like we've had the past week up north), and suspect both races I'm looking at won't sell out.

Well the swimming aint getting any faster. it IS getting physically less tiring though, although i'm still doing breaststroke. Another lesson tomorrow eve. Hoping to get to the lake at the weekend and see if i can relax and progress the freestyle a bit when i'm not worrying about buoyancy.0

I'm in - been 15 years since I've competed, but looking to get back into sprint distance this year.0

No biking today, as my folks dropped in for a visit. Still, hoping to get in 50+ miles on the saddle tomorrow (along with another swim) as my next weekend guest isn't coming in until the evening, and I'm all set on laundry, housecleaning, and groceries.

@gobonas99 you know what? My knee was a bit rough prior to sunday's HM, if i was a regular HM runner i would probably have skipped it, but i'm not so i did it anyway... the knee was definitely aggravated by it (from around the 10th km), i'm guessing that the ankle possibly took a bit of a hammering trying to lessen the impact on the knee?? Its the front part of the foot in the bit where the front of the foot meets the bottom of the shin. It was swollen and a bit bruised, now mostly just a little swollen. Hence i've stuck to swimming this week.
I might try a gentle spin over the weekend, also hoping to hit the lake on sunday
I might also increase the float on my pedals

Hi,
Nice to see that there's some very active people here. I would like to join your ranks! I am Jasper, dutch and I do triathlon. I am training for my 3rd tri (1/8), which will be in a month. I do this sport because I love training as much as doing the competitions - I feel very alive when I am active! My goal this month is to increase my training and to break my personal record (that I just set) on the 1/8 distance; 1:10:31, and get it to about 1:05:00 (this is my high goal. My secondary goal is just to break my previous record). My focus will be to improve my swimming technique (-0.5 to -1 minute), practice transitions (-1 minute), train running (-2 to -3 minutes) and train cycling (-1 minute). This is probably overly optimistic, but so far I have always exceeded my highest expectations so we'll see if this trend continues (or if it stops here). My training goals are to run, cycle and swim at least two to three times, gradually increasing speed and distance (but carefully to avoid overtraining). In the process I would like to lose 2-4 kg, which should make me faster.
For this week:
Su May 17: 5 kilometer run
Mo May 18: 1 kilometer swim
Tu May 19: 30 kilometer bike ride
We May 20: 5 kilometer run
Th May 21: 1 kilometer swim
Fr May 22: 5 kilometer run
Sa May 23: 30 kilometer bike ride
Feedback is always welcome of course!
I will read the rest of this thread later to read about you and your exercise experiences!
Cheers,
Jasper
