Bike: 91 miles total. Easy 90 minute spin this evening
Run: 16.5 miles total . 5 miles on Thursday night.
Swim: 4400 meters total. Had to share my lane with a couple of elderly water aerobics ladies this morning, but I still got a quick speed workout in this morning.
X-training total: 7 hrs of backpacking
Strength: 2 sessions done.
I think my goal from here on out is to actually be able to complete my planned workouts. I've been alternately sick , injured or lazy for the past two months. Hoping things will balance out now that race season is on.
First tri of the season next weekend. Charity sprint race, right up the road.
Finally!!!

5/15 - Rest Day
5/16 - was supposed to do a 15k run today, but I'm still getting used to my new shoes with the lower drop (and the sore calves that come with that LOL), so my coach changed it to a brick - 8.7 mile bike ride in 31:01 and 4.72 mile run in 45:01- total 1:15:02
Totals through 5/16:
Swim: 4.35 miles in 2.94 hours (3 swims)
Bike: 103.17 miles in 6.71 hours (7 rides)
Run: 36.11 miles in 5.95 hours (8 runs)
Yoga: 1 class0 -
My weekend guest wanted to try some open water swimming, and the gulf was both warm and flat this morning, so I ended up helping him with his open water technique (tarzan stokes/sighting/wave surges, etc..) this morning, adding some unexpected extra distance to my water total. He also wanted to run late last night, and bike today, so no complaints to oblige on those ends. Still, I'm hoping to get in a long ride tomorrow after he heads off as I'll be returning to the very hilly northeast on Monday and I'd rather rack up the longer mileage on the flats here in Florida.

Hello,
I am new to multisport. I have been following this thread for a while now and finally decided to post.
My journey began with a commitment. A little more than a year ago I weight over 260 pounds. I wanted to commit to losing weight. Last summer I was watching a highlight reel from one of the Kona races and decided if Gordon Ramsey could do a triathlon I could too, albeit not an Ironman.
Since then I have lost almost 75 pounds and have been going to the gym most days. My practice times are abysmal compared to all of yours but I am still very proud of my progress.
My first triathlon is on the 31st of this month. At several times I have thought of backing out but reading about your dedication has spurred me on. I will be doing a sprint 400/18.5/5K.
I believe I have put in enough training time to finish successfully. My times will not be great but I will not finish last either. I have done some group swims and runs. The bike leg is my strongest point. The run my weakest. But I will not stop.
Thanks for letting me chime in and I wish success to all of you this season.0 -
@cblue315 Welcome to the wonderful, insane world of triathlon! Good luck at your first race. My first race was a comedy of errors, but I was hooked the second I crossed that finish line!
Bike: 101 miles total. Fun easy ride with my dad after we watched the Tour of California today. He was inspired by Sagan and kept trying to get the drop on me. Even wore his lime green jersey in honor of his favorite cyclist.
Run: 22.5 miles total. Opted to race the 5.4 miler today instead of the 2 loop, 10 mile course so I could ride this afternoon. Really technical, really muddy, really hilly trail, had a great time. Finished in the top half of the women's field @1:03. Pretty happy with that for my first trail race.
Swim: 4400 meters total.
X-training total: 7 hrs of backpacking
Strength: 2 sessions done.
Feeling good, ready to race for real on Saturday!

@cblue315 welcome to the thread. Did my first sprint last summer at 195 after working my way down from 260 (and was looking for more of a challenge after doing my first marathon). You'll do fine. Just check out an occasional youtube video on transitions, race etiquette, etc..
Have done an olympic since (along with 2 more marathons and handful of half marathons/10k/5k/etc..) and am down in the 160s now as my times have significantly improved due to weight loss and racking up the miles.
Still, beware as it can get addictive0 -
It's late autumn here ... pitch black and chilly in the evenings now. So getting outside in the evenings is more of a challenge nevertheless, I'll see what I can do. My husband is working on setting up a gym inside, so that will help ... and there are always weekends.
Goals:
Walking: 60 km
Cycling: 300 km
And if I can get in some canoeing and weightlifting that would be a plus.
So, to start ...

03 Sun -- 31.04 km cycling (100 min)
04 Mon - 4 km walking (50 min)
Plus I did a 35 min stair climbing workout in the evening. My yard is full of little sets of stairs. The longest one is 7 steps so I mainly focused on that one, up and down, up and down, but I also jogged between the others and did them too for some variety. In total, just over 1000 stairs climbed.
Plus 10 min upper body weights workout.
05 Tues - 4.8 km walking (60 min)
Sub-total:
Walking: 12 km (7.4 miles)
Cycling: 68.47 km (42.5 miles)

@cblue315 - welcome to the world of triathlon! You will LOVE it!
5/17 - Ironman 70.3 bike course - 55.5 miles and 2730 feet of elevation gain in 4:10:29 (included nutrition stops)
My brain is still trying to compute how I'm going to run a half marathon after that... LOL!
Totals through 5/17:
Swim: 4.35 miles in 2.94 hours (3 swims)
Bike: 158.68 miles in 10.88 hours (8 rides)
Run: 36.11 miles in 5.95 hours (8 runs)
Yoga: 1 class0 -
it was good to get in another Open Water swim, and i was determined i was going to put in a lap, rather than just paddle around near the in/exit area! So a lap i did. It wasn't quick, it wasn't pretty, and it certainly wasn't freestyle... But it was a lap! A pair of swans took an unsettling amount of interest, swimming along just ahead of my left shoulder, and i kept seeing the dark shadowy shapes of some big carp heading towards me, but by time i'd got my head into the water, they'd already shot off! 860m. Water temp at in/out area 16.5c
Next visit target - 2 laps. And hopefully some freestyle.0 -
Just weights and biking as I held off on my usual Sunday long run and will just postpone until tonight when I'm back in the northeast.

Quite frankly starting to get a bit annoyed with myself, still can't get my freestyle breathing worked out, still getting panicky. Going to give it a rest for a few days. Pleased that my duration/distance has increased, but not getting any faster.

No sure if anyone is interested but I came accross this a few weeks ago and it has helped me a great deal with my swimming. I can now do several continuous laps freestyle.

@cblue315 - that is a nifty little article, and definitely a good way for someone to work up to swimming continuously for longer distances. I do, however, have to take exception to this comment, at least as far as triathlon goes: "A swimmer's mile is 1650, not 1760. It is the equivalent of 1500 meters." Sorry, but no LOL...1500M is your standard Olympic distance swim and is 100M short of one mile. Half iron distance is 1.2 miles, and full iron distance is 2.4 miles. All typically measured out via GPS.
But it doesn't really matter, because you should always be training for longer swim distances than your race, because the course can be off. Case in point - I did an olympic tri last summer with a 1500M swim. when the course was initially measured, it was correct. however, we had a ton of rain, and by the time the race arrived, the water level of the lake had risen significantly. Our 1500M swim was actually almost 1.2 miles! If you look at the map of my swim on Garmin, it looks like we started on the beach, and ran back onto the beach before starting our second loop...when in reality, we started in waist deep water, and were at least 50M further out than that when we made the turn for the second loop! Needless to say, the race director will now be re-GPSing the swim course the day before the race from now on LOL!0 -
Ran to the gym so I could swim tonight, got there and the pool was closed for maintenance. Lifted for a bit and ran home.
2.5 miles is all for me today. Yesterday's trail run was rough on the hamstrings.
Run: 25 miles total.
Bike: 101 mi
Swim: 4400 m
Strength: 3 sessions
X-train: 7 hrs backpacking0 -
@gobonas99 and don't forget the occasional up-river / down-river triathlon going into the current that only gets longer the slower you swim your upstream portion (as I'm doing one of those in August)!
Ran my 12 miles today up north to avoid the heat, but didn't end up avoiding much heat (starting in the 80s) and had to take some mid-run shelter given the severity of rain & lightning in the area. On the plus side, my city commuter bike tune-up is now complete and it is riding much smoother.

@Ohhim - I hadn't even thought of that. We don't have any of those around here.0 -
Update: this week so far:
Su May 17: about 15 kilometers of walking
Mo May 18: swimming (about 1 km)
Tu May 19: 6 kilometer run
The plan for the rest of this week:
We May 20: 5.5 kilometer run
Th May 21: 1 kilometer swim
Fr May 22: 5.5 kilometer run
Sa May 23: 30 kilometer bike ride0 -
@gobonas99 the Lofty Ladies ride sounds cool. Most of the group rides are pretty bro-tastic around here.
Speaking of which, rode 21 miles with my actual bro[ther] tonight. He still thinks he's going to drop me if we go more than 15 mph, so it was a fun easy ride.
Ran this morning before work, 3 mi with strides.
Bike:122 mi
Run: 28 mi
Swim: 4400 m
Strength: 3 sessions
X-training: 7 hrs backpacking0 -
Did my first longer ride on my city commuter tonight to/from the ballgame, and am very happy with my tuneup. Also ran a few more miles more than expected. Just noticed that my next olympic triathlon is the day after a cousin's wedding 4 hours away (in August), so not sure I'll be able to participate (in the tri) depending on the timing of the ceremony & reception. Regardless, I'm registered for a November tri, and may find a summer HIM as a backup.
5/1 - 30 min weights

Tried to swim this morning, but called it quits after only about 800 meters.
I was feeling sore and a bit grumpy and the old water aerobics ladies invaded my lane so I decided it just wasn't worth it. They're sweet and cute and old and all but, I just wasn't feeling it today.
[insert lengthy rant about never getting my own lane here]
Swim: 5200 m.0 -
haha yeah that is frustrating. In our pool the fastest lane is the one in the back and the slowest lane (for those old aerobics ladies and international students who are learning how to swim) is the one on the opposite side. But yeah every now and then someone enters the wrong lane. Often they get a few angry faces and that is enough to scare them away :P0
-
Ha! I use the slow lane0
-
nothing wrong with that csman49, I started in a way slower lane too about 1.5 years ago and while I am faster than the people in the other lanes, I am still slightly below average in the fast lane. I do 500 meters in about 9 minutes, while I am sure that some of the fastest at our pool can do it in 6 or 7.
if I would do another (new) sport I would also be slow; for example I can't ice skate (I should learn that this winter, because a dutchman should be able to do that ) and when I would practice it I would still skate with a chair in front of me0 -
Yeah, unfortunately it isn't organized that way at my gym.
You pretty much just get in whatever lane doesn't already have 2 people in it, which means we have slow breast stroke lane, slower breast stroke lane, and water aerobics with slow breast stroke. Lol
Any time I've said something about choosing a more appropriate lane they say "don't worry, I won't get in the way." It's only a 20 meter pool, so, they always do.
There's not really any kind of code of behavior. People jump into random lanes, stand still in the middle of the pool, swim directly in front of you in the middle of a sprint then stink eye you for splashing them. It's anarchy, but it's also cheap and I'm broke, so, it is what it is, I guess.
0 -
ok that sucks, but at least it's cheap
You can of course also swim in the sea, a lake or a river. In the summer my pool is closed for students, so then I will swim in the Rhine most of the time.0 -
Ha! I'm actually the slow one, so I just try to get my lane partner to agree to swim back and forth on the same side rather than in circles The Y pool I go to is kinda crappy and thus never crowded so this usually works
Let's see, I haven't posted since Friday.
Saturday: 10 mile easy run, later 1 hour @ gym doing upper body & core
Sunday: 2.5 hours on the bike trainer (oof)
Monday: 6 mile run
Tuesday: Track workout, 5 mile repeats
Wednesday: 1500m swim
