The World Health Organization might enlighten you better than anyone here on the forum:

The WHO does not say that added sugar is somehow uniquely bad. (Nor recommend eliminating it.)

It says that people who eat lots of added sugar also tend to eat lots of low nutrient, high calorie food items. Limiting added sugars can be a way to prevent this, so they recommend it.

I happen to think the WHO's recommendation is reasonable.

However, it offers zero support to those who want to treat sugar that is added to food as somehow toxic or unlike the sugar in fruit or dairy. It would not explain why we should ignore context and demonize sugar in rhubarb sauce or oatmeal.

I omitted flour and any added sugar for about 3 weeks. I thought I'd be unsatisfied and crabby all the time but I really felt great. I lost a few pounds, but no longer felt bloated. Over the weekend I added it back in (never meant to make it a long term change), and I felt shaky, tired, face broke out, overall icky! It is definitely hard to omit flour and sugar entirely so I think I'm definitely going to take attempt to really limit them, I definitely felt better without them in my diet!

I substitute honey for sugar in some recipes, but I don't know of a substitute for flour. The only recipe that I still use sugar in is KPaul's Shrimp Creole.

How on earth would honey be better for a diabetic? Honey is, basically, sugar.

Lemur, Zmusic is the troll-y type. Not sure if you got in on some of his other threads.

Oh, right. I happened upon the margarita-shaming one after the fact. Good times. ;-)
