My back has gone into spassum, so no running for me I can barely walk. Do you think yoga could help put my back right? I think I'll look up yoga on you tube and have a go.0 -
@JoRocka - love the pictures and great job with your run in that heat and humidity, that is an awesome pace!!
@Elise4270 - can you eat something with your medicine so it doesn't impact your stomach/intestines so much or will that limit the absorption and effectiveness of the medicine?
@_nikkiwolf_ - hope you have a wonderful vacation!!
@mwyvr - Love Kady the Wonder Dog! She looks like she loves running the trails! Hobbes (in my picture) is my 4-legged Training Partner and has been on pretty much all of my runs since he was old enough to run with me. When it is hot we go really early and stick to the dirt trail that is cooler than the paved and if it gets really bad before we can get home, I douse him all over with water.
@7lenny7 - Hobbes definitely pouts if I leave him behind at home. He also Must Have Activity or he becomes a wild crazy dog. If he doesn't get to run he pretty much must go to doggy day care to run amok with all the other dogs and burn off the extra energy.
@WhatMeRunning - love the new picture! was wondering if people actually bought and wore the Half Fanatics shirts in races. I have never seen anyone in any races here wearing one. I may just have to get one before my next half!
@missmelis98 - like others have commented, I too would recommend taking the day off before your race and resting your foot, maybe icing and/or stretching it.

Not Updated for a few days. Mileage a bit down because of life. I'm trying to slow myself down to get my pace dialled in for the Ultra so I ran to my HR yesterday and realised how hard it was to keep my HR to 135bpm but it worked and I slowed. Yesterday I ran one lap of the Ultra course. Looking at it I may need a machete come July. One of the easier bits of the course the field adjacent they have just moved some Highland cows in. When they're a few feet away they're big very big. The fence really doesn't look strong enough.

WhatMeRunning wrote: »When I woke up at 5am this morning my RHR was just slightly elevated so I debated if I should run. I checked the forecast and it was going to start raining very soon. My nips are destroyed from all of the wet runs lately...bodyglide only goes so far apparently. So I decided to not run. An hour later my RHR was down towards normal...and it didn't rain! GAH!!
So now I'm looking at the forecast and I can run in the mid 80s this afternoon. My Saturday long run looks like a total washout. So my brain is saying don't trust the forecast and get my planned 6 miles in today, rest tomorrow and pull off the planned 16 miler Saturday and 8 on Sunday. But my poor nips are saying I should skip today and do the 16 miler tomorrow when it will be dry, then play it by ear Saturday and Sunday for the 2nd long run.
It's the first time in my adult male life that my nips are contributing to decisions. This is awkward.
@WhatMeRunning Compression tops. I wear a compression top no matter the weather below my running top. Good quality ones wick away the sweat so in hot weather I find your no hotter than you would be with a single top. Since I've been wearing them I have never had a nipple issue and unlike band aids they don't fall off. I run in the rain a lot and never have a nipple issue. I wish when I started running someone had told me this as it would have saved an awful lot of pain0 -

Honestly I really wanted to go, I had my work clothes in the car and everything last night. LOL
Fine, you will just have to run with us Saturday morning then.

@stoshew71 if I'm up I'll be there. I get up at 5 every morning I hate to do it on the weekends too I'm thinking a shorter run tomorrow and a long run Sunday right now so I'll see. Thanks for the info I did see it last night on FB.
@whatmerunning great job getting your run in.
@jorocka I love your pictures too, girl you have some awesome arms, so jealous!
@shanaber we are like mileage twins
@isulo_kura hey stop taking my picture when I get up in the morning LOL Oh my that is a big cow, just think how fast everyone would be running if they got out.
I tell by everyone's posts it's been warming up everywhere. When I ran this morning it was 71, but 98% humidity. I was dripping sweat, but it feels so good. I won't complain, I complained and begged for this weather when it was 5 degrees out in the winter
It's funny how the dogs pout when they can't go for a run or how they get used to the routine. Because I run on the road it wears down Macy's pads too much so she only goes from time to time. But when I get home I take her for a walk for my cool down. When I come down the street she is looking out the front window of the bedroom, she lays on the bed with her chin on the windowsill. When I open the front door she starts to jump in circles until we go out the door. Same thing with the pool, she loves to swim, when one of us puts a bathing suit on she loses her mind, running from the back door to us and then back to the door. She'll put 2 paws on the pool steps and if you put one toe in the pool she jumps in. Skip brought some new suits for the summer and had to stop putting them on modeling them for me, because Macy was going insane. If she can't go in the pool she looks out the back window and howls this sick sad noise the whole time someone is in there. Too funny.0 -

@shanaber it doesn't seem to matter if I eat or not. I have bentyl for IBS. I just may have to take it with the Cymbalta. They both make me tired. But I suppose better tired than diarrhea, dehydration and no running.
@JimCrackinDandy I don't have any real advice for the knees. Might see your doc with the swelling. A steroid may be in order. Good luck.0 -
JimCrackinDandy wrote: »Both knees still clicking, swollen, and hurting when going downstairs or downhill. Walked today instead. 5mi Any advice besides RICE?
Downhill or downstairs causing more pain is typical with ITB issues. I remember having to run or walk backwards down hills to make it home from a long training run once, a run I should not have started clearly.
This happened to me 25 years ago so am reluctant to suggest stretching to you as perhaps thinking has moved on, but if it were me, that's what I'd add as it helped me recover relatively quickly.
For prevention, ITB stretches are a regular post run routine for me now to remain in tune with that band, no pun really intended.

I honestly love running in the rain- there is something very cathartic about it- and yes- it's totally a level up bad-a$$ery!!! Good job you!0
