Thanks for the warm welcome Barbie! How did you arrive at your current eating plan?

    Sondre
    South Fork,PA

:) Sondre, my eating plan is the result of years of trial and error. In 2009, my chiropractor introduced me to the Isagenix cleansing and fat burning system and, even though skeptical, I tried it and followed it carefully and lost 70 pounds in about a year. I liked how it made me feel and how I was able to stay with the plan, that I've continued with it as my maintenance. I read everything I can find about healthy eating. I also gave up recreational eating so I'm not entertaining myself with food and food related events. I gained back 12 pounds after my medical doctor said that was underweight and needed to gain. I've maintained my current weight for the last year.

    1056287i3zmwzup2m.gif Stats for today:
    20,000 steps
more than three hours of dog walking in beautiful spring weather
a lot of walking in stores getting all the shopping done

    Hi Barbie,

I really have learned a great deal from chiropractors. Overall, I believe they prefer a natural approach to healing and maintaining the body. I have been tempted to try cleansing the colon.

You certainly had wonderful success with the product. Not discounting the research you did on eating healthy and eliminating recreational eating. The fact that you have maintained your current weight for a year speaks loudly to your self discipline and desire to eat healthy.

I feel much better now that I have stopped eating massive quantities of candy. I used to get so tired in the afternoons. No doubt it was from all of the sugar I put in my body.

Do you have a specific exercise program that you stick with. I still haven't made a commitment to anything. I do gardening, mowing and housework for the most part. I am getting on to yoga a couple of days each week too.

    Today's joke of the day.

    :)

An Antartian was walking through the Sahara desert, desperate for water, when he saw something, far off in the distance.

Hoping to find water, he walked towards the image, only to find a little old man sitting at a card table with a bunch of neckties laid out on it.

The Antartian asked, "Please, I'm dying of thirst, can I have some water?"

The man replied, "I don't have any water, but why don't you buy a tie? Here's one that goes nicely with your robe."

The Antartian shouted, "I don't want a tie, you idiot, I need water!"

"OK, don't buy a tie. But to show you what a nice guy I am, I'll tell you that over that hill there, about 4 miles, is a nice restaurant. Walk that way, they'll give you all the water you want."

The Antartian thanked him and walked away towards the hill and eventually disappeared. Three hours later the Antartian came crawling back to where the man was sitting behind his card table. The old man said, "I told you, about 4 miles over that hill. Couldn't you find it?"

The Antartian rasped, "I found it all right but they wouldn't let me in without a tie!"

Sharon, glad you are doing better!

Gilly – sorry to hear how hard it is too take a walk break!

Heather – you sure look young…

Alison – I want to scoop you up and get you out of that mess and be able to have a wonderful safe break!
Ok Alison I am a Leo also but am a nice person ( I think), and while I can be a bit controlling of myself, I really think it is a live and let live world, your *&%$hubby is giving Leos a bad name.

Chris – great find on jeans at Goodwill, I too love thrifting, always have, but even more as weight is lost, cause hopefully we will not wear a size for too long..

Alison- what if you meet with the Director of Nursing’s daughter – or some other big wig, and just told them that you are looking for something different, and got their opinions, kinda like an informational interview, not specifically a job interview – but a how do they see you, what opportunities are there at a nursing home – those folks know folks at other nursing homes and who knows someone might know of a perfect fit.

Carol/ Peach – I agree, hot hot, cold cold! It drives me crazy when I order something at a restaurant or someone serves something before we are ready to eat it and it ends up being room temp…

    Mary – great news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sondre, and Lisa – Wow ! What a great stories, you are strong, I am a domestic violence survivor also and when I hear some of the stories from other survivors, I realize I had it “easy” no kids, and I had a job, car and place to live.

Pip – I asked about the D for Darling and was told the D could be for Darling, Dummy, Delightful, Dumb *kitten*, Dirtbag… pretty much you had to guess from context!

Sondre – how do you search for your name?

Well, got the gardening done, and then started reading, we are a chatty group! 2 hours later and I am caught up again…. That will last for a couple of minutes.

We had a snack at gardening – fresh berries and water, but as I was driving home, every restaurant in the area had put up big Neon Signs – KIM STOP HERE – (LoL) but I thought of you and resisted and got home to a nice salad and extra water. Defrosted a seafood casserole (single serving) that was leftover from a few weeks ago and will have that and salad for dinner.

    June goals:
Walk every day 180 miles for the month (in May I did 175… thought maybe a higher goal would be good)
NEW – 1 plank every day – and log them here - 3
    Log everyday
    Eat slower
do 2 fun things every week - week 1 – no traditional fun – but working hard to get all embroidery jobs done, clean up clutter inside and out, so that my doggy sitter will not have that to deal with, and the house will look nice when I get home.

Woke up with a headache this morning. Before I could take an Imitrex or drink (let alone) make my coffee the hubs had a list of to-dos! After I gave him the "look" he backed off. When I was settled he gave me the itinerary for the day. Goodwill drop-Menards-TGI Friday's for lunch-Redbox movie rental-Acme Fresh Market shopping-stop home and pick up dog-trail walk with said dog-watch Belmont Stakes-.....phew!
Got a lot done and tomorrow we plan on setting up the deck for the summer aka schlepping chairs, tables etc from basement storage.
Did something I have never done before and that is when my meal was served at TGIFriday's I immediately asked for a to-go-box. I split the 6 oz. steak and the broccoli in half and brought it home. For dinner I made a steak salad from the leftovers.
Not a bad week. Those planks are killers but I can already feel my "core" aka tummy feeling tighter. No change in the scale this week but I know I am doing all the right things to promote that change so I am happy about that!

Sighes.....I need a glass of wine to salute you all, and the fact that I read thru 6 pages of comments.. "Salute'" "Ting"...."sluuuurp"..."burp"...hahahaha....I am missing my Pinot Grigio.... That is such a great summer wine. I am def in "beer land" and if I wish to partake I usually go to any of the zillion watering holes here at the coast and order a pint. The last time we went out (after the QuarterFlash concert) I had a ticket from my "give a Pint for a Pint" blood drive at a local brewery. And no you couldn't have the pint of beer on the same day as giving blood..hahaha. So I had kept the meals really light, because I wanted to get in a special dress, so when I had my pint, I was a wee bit empty. So then I ordered this beer that had a berry aftertaste, really great. The waitress told me "it is a little boozy". Ok I will admit, I drunk-cooked when I got home. An omelet of some sort is all I remember. My 16 yr old had fun giggling at my behavior. I don't partake in pints too often....

@JanetMMcC When my son is a yr from graduating he is going to enlist. Its an early entry program, and they do weekly PT's (training) and also test them on info that the Navy would normally cram into their heads at bootcamp. It also guarentee's that their job they are wishing will be there when they offically take the oath. Another great thing about early entry is that during some of his senior year he will be focused on the Navy, and not worried about what college to attend, tests to cram for. It gets a sailor into the frame of mind that you need to have when you go into bootcamp. Having had two sons already do this, I have seen the positive mindset.

@DeeDee2211 I lived with comedians in the 80's....legally being able to watch cartoons on a saturday with other adults. (scoping for material?) I don't know...but it was fun, unless you had a hangover... After marrying my sailor, I had to adapt to many stressful situations, and I know for a fact that its more benifical to laugh than to cry. Doing them at the same time is great too. :-)

@exermom Its when I wear one of my dresses and my saddle shoes, and he wears one of his double-breasted suits and HIS saddle shoes that we look adorable! hahaha....

@JoanMichelle And we survived drinking from the hose too! Amazing!

@jmkmomm Smile and the world smiles with you!

Hi all. Wasn’t I just here??? Now there are 173 posts to read so maybe not? I’m trying really hard to get here every day. We had a long day; got a tire replaced on the VW, went to the flooring and cabinet place, went to a movie (Spy…hilarious!!!), then to dinner at a new Mexican place and now I’m done in!

Well I have read all the posts, but there are too many to reply to all; I keep trying to get here everyday. We are supposed to get more rain again tonight but I hope it’s clear tomorrow; we have a jeep meeting with a picnic at 5 tomorrow.

OK take care all, meg from Omaha

    Hi Kim,

I'm glad you were able to get out of the bad situation. Don't discount what you did, even if you had some of the necessary tools, I know how hard it is and how strong you have to have been to do it.

I search using the little magnifying glass at either the top or the bottom of the page containing the threads. I just put my first name in and Wa-La. Give it a try and let me know how you make out.

One of those 12-inch bags of veg is about the 3 recommended servings for a day. And about 100 to 120 calories. I just ate a bag. :)

Pip: In the acronym DH, D doesn’t always stand for something nice. I notice that Kim has a similar opinion.

This has been a quiet day after all the doings yesterday. We went to a farmer’s market in the next town and got some really wonderful snap peas. I wish there were more vendors in the farmer’s market. Then we drove to a farm store on Sauvies Island. I bought raspberries and they were seriously over ripe. I’m a real lover of raspberries and the quality was very disappointing. I love that farm store for the bicolored sweet corn we get there, but some of the other produce is not always as reliably perfect.

    June Goals:

    2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on flexibility and back strength.
    3. Have fun every day.
    4. Drink at least three glasses of water daily, preferably more!
    5. Eliminate alcohol.
    6. Monitor sleep. Try to average 7 or more hours of sleep nightly.

Gilly, I am so so sorry you have never experienced Hardees country ham biscuits, USA kind of biscuit. It is an exquisitely buttermilk biscuit that is brushed with butter as soon as it is taken out of the oven. They they split it in half and put a piece of country ham and a piece of cheese on it. So yummy. Far better than the other fast food biscuits. We have a locally owned doughnut shop here in town that is far better than any chain doughnut shops. But you had to buy a cup of coffee there yesterday in order to get a free doughnut. #1, I don't like coffee, #2, they only offered certain doughnuts for free where at Kryspy Kreme, all the doughnuts are free.

Heather, I love the way your friend has decorated hr apartment! LOL >:) I am sure she will enjoy it for years to come and that you will be a frequent visitor.

Allison, big hugs sent your way. Do you have a good friend you could go spend the night at or just an afternoon. Just to get some pampering and some good old female gab time. I can't remember if you have said anything about any particular religious beliefs. But maybe joining a church may give you some emotional relief. I know how much of a weight it took off my shoulders last year when I went back to church. Of course my situation is different than yours. But the preacher's kid in me suggest you find a church.

Pat, loved your summertime memories. I am so sorry todays generation can not have the liberty to experience that. Today I parent would be arrested for child neglect for allowing their children to walk to the park.

Terri, Loved your impromptu concert in the car. I remember a time when my youngest daughter and I were not on the same wavelength at all. I was the enemy. Well there was this day that she wasn't going to get up. She was basically playing possum because with me sitting on her bed, she couldn't have been able to still sleep. I love to read and read very dramatically. At that we had 'the personals' in the daily paper or maybe it was once a week. So I sat beside her on her bed and read the personals aloud, very dramatically. I could tell she was really trying to hold her laughter in but didn't want me to know she not only was awake and listening to me but she was amused, very amused. So eventually couldn't hold it in anymore and just burst out laughing. She loves to tell that story and how it did bring us closer. I had to learn with that kid that you had to be spontaneous and not always go 'by the book'.

Chris MA, big congrats. My daughters have had to remind me several times that even though they are very proud of me and what I have accomplished with my diet that it is MY diet and not their diet. I know I am not going to change them in their lives so I just have to be a silent example to them now.

Cynthia, I so loved that movie. I can recall that exact scene. She realized that the only person she really cared about loving her back was that little girl. She knew she had already made a huge difference inher life and that was important.

Janet Myrtle Beach, thanks for the idea that I need to put something porous over the china cabinet. I know that the garage has such an oily smell to it. I am afraid that the cabinet will eventually have the same smell.

    MARY Minnesota, H A P P Y D A N C E!!!!!!! So glad you are getting that house. No more in limbo.

Went to a couple of yard sales today. I knew I wanted to go to the yard sale that I had dropped my things off at. It is a animal rescue charity. I bought two things and gave them a $20. Most of the things I had taken over had not been 'bought' but some had. I even had a juice attachment for a Kitchen Aide mixer and it was still there. They weren't in a good spot where some one could easily see them. I am sure that most of the people who went were people who were part of the organization. Also went to a couple of others on my way home and they were all closing up shop and it wasn't even noon. Did the medicine keepers for next week. Charlie will finish his cortisone for his ulcerative colitis. We are both anxious to see how his bowels are without the cortisone. Well, if they get worse I know it will help Charlie in his decision to accept treatment even though it will cost an arm and a leg. But with his Medicare D plan, the cost of it will get him to the catastrophic phase real quick so it will be at more of a manageable price.

Went over to my sisters today. She really likes the pictures and all the info on family and the interaction I have with family on face book. so her husband got her this cheap RCA tablet for Christmas. It's almost dangerous for it to be in her hands. She can't hardly find anything. One day she will be able to find face book, even though it is a built in icon and she will post. Other times the only way she can post is through the personal message on face book which now is a separate icon. Well I was telling her last night that I had posted something to her face book page earlier in the week and asked why she never noticed it. So I had to show her today how to get her own face book page. She gets the news feed but not her own page. Well it is the weirdest way I have ever seen. But now she knows. I made sure she had done it 3 times before I left now I know how to talk her through it over the phone. She has called before asking me to look something up on the internet and I ask her why she can't get it on her tablet. She says she didn't even know she had internet. She is almost dangerous!!!! But I love her and I know I also have a lot of cognitive difficulties so I try to be very patient. Besides that, when I was working as a nurse, teaching was my passion so I can use that with her now. She is forever needing teaching!!! Love my sis!

Have to get ready for bed soon. So odd for me to be going to bed before midnight but I need to do this so getting up for Sunday School will eventually become second nature for me instead of more like a chore.

I had to share that as of right now, I am completely caught up in my business, all the invoicing is done, all the embroidery is done, and I am ready for vacation that doesn't start until Thursday!!! I am so happy with this, I will do a couple of my own projects and work ahead on my classes.... Working long hours has paid off!

Alison - Please remember your own worth. We are all here for you.

    Good morning everyone!

Joyce: your friend sounds like my friend on the computer!!! Except mine calls every once in a while because she did something and her WiFi is now “broken” or her email has disappeared, etc. I do admire her persistence in wanting to learn, but I don’t always have two hours to go over and try to fix things.

    Heather: beautiful back yard!

Kim: what a great feeling! You deserve it!

Yesterday I bought a dress for a special occasion. Unfortunately it’s much larger than I would have wanted. Still, nice to have something special.

People who are tired from work: how do you get exercise in? I just can't fathom it at this point. Unfortunately "getting in a few extra steps" won't work for me: I cannot walk much at all because of arthritis and foot problems.

Hope we all have a good day.

Janet Mc: I clicked on your link and followed it to Facebook. Very interesting nature pics. My in-laws lived in NO's during the 1940's when he attended Tulane. They always spoke of the wonderful food - he said that if you bought a nickel beer they would give you a free shrimp po boy to go with it. My MIL made the most delicious seafood gumbo which I have never been able to duplicate.

Heather: Your garden looks so peaceful. I grew up in the country and remember how nice it was in the early morning with the windows up....the sounds and the fresh smells.
