I'm really chuffed this morning, went and did my 5k run and for the first time I managed not to walk any of it  I did only beat last weeks time by one second, and that included several walking bits, so next time I need to walk I won't feel so bad about it, but more than the time this was about me proving to myself that I could keep going and not need to keep stopping.

That's super! The first 10k my husband did, a 10 year old boy would run ahead of him and walk a bit, then run ahead and walk. He did this the entire 10k. My husband will not stop for walk breaks. The kid beat still him. A short walking break is often beneficial! Congrats on your 5k PR!

@Aresende90 Runners World online may have some suggestions in the ITBS. The only thing I know to do are RICE and foam roll and gentle stretches. If you can convince that boyfriend to spring for a massage, that may help. I know it can become a chronic condition. So it may be worth looking into PT along with a gait analysis.

Where does it hurt on your knee? Outside would be IT band. It could be PF pain. A brace would help that. I found them horribly uncomfortable. If it's PF I believe you should try to improve quad strength gradually. There's a regimine on Runners world, (my go to for info) called the iron work out for runners.

Your run sounds like you had the opportunity to connect to your cause. That's heart warming.

    Good luck.

This turtle got to do a last minute decided on 10k yesterday. Definitely didn't set any records but I got out there and did it. Not only that, but I got a 21 year old co-worker, who had been a college track runner but who hasn't run in a year, to do it with me. And guess which one of us felt better at the end???

4.1 today, but it is starting to take its toll ... had to stop to walk a couple times. May take a rest day tomorrow!

@Timby1 - So glad you got to do that 10k yesterday and felt pretty great afterwards! You may have won back a running partner in the end too! Let us know when the next race you both run in.
@Elise4270 - Thanks for doing some research on ITB. I am wondering how you are feeling though. How are your SI joints?
7mi here in the heat of the day, so that means twice as many calories were burned as would have been burned if I woke up on time this am and ran then.....Right???

@JimCrackinDandy I'm not bad. I think I'm probably the best I can hope for. I'm ready to run, waiting for the heat to let up since I slept in. I think the heat index is near 100. How hot was your run? I don't want to wait until 6-7pm to get out.

With that being said, any recommendations for treatment? It still hurts with normal walking. I did do ITB stretches with some relief. I think a knee brace is in order, but I don't know if it would help...

@Aresende90 - Great sentiments for getting your race done and under your goal!! I am not sure I could have run through the pain that way! I would start with stretches along with rest, ice (lots of ice) and maybe compression. I am not sure about a knee brace. I tend to stay away from them unless prescribed because I am afraid they will do more harm than good. If it isn't feeling better with a couple of days of rest and ice I would see a sports doc.

Love the picture of you and your puppies! The medal is awesome too!

    July 01 - 6.3 miles
    July 02 - 3.3 miles
    July 03 - REST
    July 04 - 6.4 miles (10K + 0.2 warmup)
    July 05 - 4.3 miles (3.0 + 1.3)

    July Goal: 80 miles
    Miles so far: 20.3
    Miles left: 59.7

I took it really easy (about 12:30 pace) this morning. I woke up sore from yesterdays race. I rarely have sore muscles from running, but I guess yesterday's 10K wore me out. I probably should have called it a rest day but wanted to get Kody out (and get some miles myself, I'd admit). Started with 0.5 mile walk, then 3.0 mile run then 1 mile walk, then a water break and rest for muttley, another mile walk, 1.3 mile run, and a swim in the lake for Kody.

Tomorrow's my son's soccer practice, which is a prime 1.5 hour chunk of time I like to use for running, but I hear my body calling for a rest, so I'll walk instead. I also notice that in the last week I've run 26.1 miles, 4 more than my previous weekly high total.

@skippygirlsmom, great picture of you and the dog! And nice streak!
@mwyvr, a date run sounds very cool. Too bad my wife doesn't run, though she would be up for a date walk. I'll have to propose something like that. Great picture of your dog, too.
@toriraeh, your C25K is going great! Congrats on the 5 minutes. I think getting started in a running program is the hardest part, and you're doing quite well at it!
@kristinegift, awesome job on the 5K!
@Aresende90, classy boyfriend! The sloppy kisses had to help your mood a bit. I hope you get your pains sorted out quick!
@bbandme, great job on your 5K run!

    6/1 = 5 miles
    6/2 = 6 miles @ 6 weeks postpartum!
6/3 = weight training in the morning, 4 miles stroller walk
6/4 = Rest day, holiday dinner with the family and a very cranky baby. Add a dog terrified by the fireworks, shaking, panting and salivating on my bed, and you get the whole picture of my 4th of July night. Breath in…Breath out…
6/5 = 4 miles, hot and humid, but I needed it for my sanity.

P.S. I do real everyone's posts, but I cannot make personal comments since my life is pretty much controlled by a tiny human being with lots of demands :) You are doing so great though!

I'm officially signed up for the half marathon- training starts the 20th of July so I have some time- but I'm going to try to ramp up my running in the next 3 week. I have no specific goals but to run more.

Got out early and beat the heat to put in a short but faster 7+km run to cap off a 86km running week with 2,209 meters of climbing. It's been many years since I last ran any distance at all and while I've no set objective in mind I'm still building and having fun.

    1- rest
    2-lunch swim, 12.15 bike
3-0.52 GI upset. Decided to lay on couch and eat popsicles instead.
    4-5.18 hot. HI 99, temp 89 humidity 60%
5- 4.80 run, cold spring dip, run

    10.5/70+

The run back is always better than the run to the cold spring. Overall it's downhill, and running back cooled off is so enjoyable. I found myself at a comfortable place mulling over a recent silly conversation with my husband about his nips an why he insists on wearing a shirt... And my mind wandered on to the silliness of a naked run. All that back sweat running off you rear made me laugh. Youd need a head band around your waist. My run was great. Comfortable, and entertaining. That's progress.

July 5 - Not counting it towards goal but walked 5 miles in Astoria in the morning to scout out a place to do long run on Tuesday. Then walked another 6 all around Central Park and Manhattan. Weather is SO nice up here. Don't want to go back to the FL heat!

Hello everyone! I am finally back to the running challenges, woohoo! It's nice to see all the familiar faces AND so many new runners joining the challenge!

A little update: my little runner Anna Elizabeth arrived on May 22, 2015 @ 6:13am EST, 5lb 9 oz and 19.5 inches of pure joy! We call our baby girl Anya :) She sure kept me busy for the last 6 weeks, which flew by faster than I expected. We already celebrated being 1 month old :# Below is one of the hundreds shots that I've taken. Yeah, I became that mom hahahahaha.

    kvkzgl1ohztd.jpg

I'll shoot for 80 miles of running/walking. I can probably do more, but would like to start easy.
So glad to be back!!! Happy Running everyone ;)

P.S. Any expecting moms, feel free to message me. I ran and lifted through my entire pregnancy and I think it made a huge difference in my delivery and recovery.

    Awwww! Beautiful baby. Congratulations!

7/1 - 3.3 miles - usually my rest day, but keeping my streak alive (3 more days!)
7/2 - 4.6 miles while eating lots of breakfast gnats yuck!
7/3 - 2.3 miles - short run today - took a new running partner who hasn't run in a while. She did great! It was cooler and raining.
7/4 - 6.2 miles - last day of my Memorial Day to 4th of July 41 Days of Awesome running challenge.
7/5 - rest day and travel to El Paso ugh what a trip
    7/6 - 2.5 horrible dreadmill miles

    18.9 miles out of 100

    exercise.png

@whatmerunning I totally agree on the streak - even if I did a 1.6 or 2 mile run the day before my long I didn't feel rested.

For those not on my news feed - when I got to the airport for my business trip the TSA agent told me my driver's license expired. They let me on the plane (have up to 1 year before they won't) but of course I couldn't get my rental car. Alabama doesn't send you any renewal notice you need to track the expiration date - okay so this is the second time this happened to me while I've lived here ha ha!! Anyway I'm stuck at the hotel and can't go anywhere to run. I said okay I can run in the streets here, lots of traffic and not the best roads but no biggie. I got up at 5:00 and got dressed walked out the door and it was dark ha ha! OMG I'm a mess. My hotel used to be one with outdoor doors so they just enclosed it to make the doors indoors, the light I saw in the curtain is the hallway light. duh again! So okay I go to the gym, where it is 80 degrees in the room, no joke. Okay equipment all looks new so I get on the mill and it's literally 6" from the wall and there is nothing but a big mirror in front of me. Nothing to inspire you to run more than seeing your gross sweaty self. Didn't take long to sweat, did I mention it was 80 degrees..honestly I checked the thermostat! Anyway did a horrible 2.5 miles of a "hilly run" and then walked around the parking lot a bit. The sun was coming up the mountains are beautiful. I'll take a picture later. One of my friends is going to rent me a car today in her name so I can get around. The guy that drives the shuttle told me of a place to run not too far from the hotel.

Bless you treadmill folks I don't know how you do it. Sorry this is so long - figured you could use a laugh today.

oh girl- you're a trouper- I would have probably given up LOL- glad you got at least a small run in- 2-3 is about all I can take on a treadmill even in "optimal" conditions. LOL

Good luck on your trip and I hope you get around safely!!!
