Hi everyone! I just found this thread and thought I'd join in! I'm Anne, 54 years old, from Los Angeles. I'm restarting my weight loss efforts - again - and hope this time around I do it for good!

Sylvia: We have found roadside restroom apps for our phones, but I'm not entirely thrilled with them. Part of the reason, no doubt, is that we haven't been anyplace new in a long time, and we know where the rest areas are already. Enjoy your road trip! :flowerforyou:

Alison: Hugs to you. Your DH doesn't seem like a nice man when it comes to his treatment of you but being good to animals is positive. Perhaps you should get yourself a teddy bear costume.

Newbies: Welcome to a great group of supportive women. :flowerforyou:

Pip: Gorgeous photos! Happy Birthday to Kirby. :flowerforyou:

Becca: I've seen that 600 pound show more than once but I'm not a fan. You can tell who will be successful by their attitude. The "dig in and work through it folks " make progress. The whiners don't. I am shocked that they let the camera's follow their naked selves into the bathtub. Sensitive parts are out of focus to the viewer but-- :noway:

DJ: Congratulations on finding your collarbones again! That is an absolutely awesome NSV! :flowerforyou:

Barbie: I've increased my physical activity along the way, but I'm a slouch compared to you. My first NSV's were smaller clothes sizes. Now my NSV's seem to revolve around being able to do things that I couldn't do before. I haven't given up drinking coffee, although I've quit adding sugar and creamers to it. AARP tells us that coffee is health food for the brain in article after article. Both caffeine free and caffeinated coffee have the same advantages. You have a good point about it interfering with long walks. :ohwell: :flowerforyou:

Chris in MA: Congratulations on all of your successes, both on and off the scale. :flowerforyou:

Lillian: The Chuck-wagon races were my favorites when I watched the Calgary Stampede on TV. I'd love to see it in person someday. I really enjoyed the Pendleton Round Up. The best event was the Indian relay races. I'm sure I've mentioned them in the past. One rider per team changed to a fresh pony for each lap on the track. The winner was amazing. We were in a position to watch him switch horses and he was able to switch with only one step on the ground. Talk about fit! He also had a great ground crew and well trained horses. I know I've commented about this before. It was a revelation to me about the need for fitness to be able to ride well. :flowerforyou:

Mary: You must have burned thousands of calories moving your irises. I'm so glad you are able to take them with you. :flowerforyou:

Sharon: I'm sorry about the fires and smoke in your area. Take care of your lungs!

Heather: I have arm definition, too. Who knew it was even possible? I think it needs to go on the NSV list. I'll send encouraging thoughts for your friend. :flowerforyou:

Lisa: Your message to potential bariatric patients is powerful and positive. Most of your talking points have applied in my life to some degree even though I haven't had bariatric surgery. I think they may apply to all of us who are working on losing weight and improving our health. :flowerforyou:

DS and DDIL are coming this weekend. We don't know whether they'll be here this evening or tomorrow, so their room will be ready today. They will be borrowing our sailboat for a trip to the San Juan Islands in WA and the Gulf Islands in BC and plan to leave later this month. I don't know the exact travel dates. I think they're more interested in the Gulf Islands, but the ship's log will tell the tale. To this end we've bit the bullet and had some much needed repair work done to make the boat sea worthy. The sails need to be replaced, but they will have to put up with what we have for this trip. Getting new sails on the boat in the middle of "the season" is not a realistic possibility.

I am looking forward to yoga this morning, and a riding lesson this afternoon.

    2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on flexibility and back strength.
    3. Have fun every day.
    4. Drink at least three glasses of water daily, preferably more!
    5. Eliminate alcohol.

Chris I too sometimes have trouble sleeping if I over do it. I get bad leg cramps. I am trying not to sit too long, pace myself, drink more water, before I go to sleep I am starting to do bicycle exercises to shake out my legs, and taking the covers off my feet and wear socks instead. I started this after Tuesday night being woken up all night with leg cramps. Last two nights no problems.

Carey unfortunately the drink you recommend is sweetened with sucralose (Splenda). Artificial sweeteners and I do not get along. I agree if you do not have a problem with artificial sweeteners it is worth a try.

    Happy Friday, my pals!

I got up, ate some steel cut oaks, drank my spark, took two puffs on the inhaler, then proceeded to cut grass non-stop for an hour and a half. My 10,000 steps buzzed on my wrist before I was finished. Headed straight for the shower and am now resting. I feel 100% better than I have in a while.

Damnit Janet, Baby Foot is a chemical peel for the feet. It is supposed to take that dried cracked skin right off my heels. I'm still not convinced that it will work. You can Google it. It gets good reviews, for the most part.

    Happy Friday ! ! !

Jane – Here’s some (((((Hugs))))) that you have a better day.

Pip – I stayed at New York New York the first year they were open and LOVED it. However, it was easy to get lost. One of my favorite Casinos is Rio, because they have “parade in the sky” every 30 minutes or something, and they throw beads or drink vouchers and such. Glad you are still having fun ! Thanks for sharing the cute young bartender. // Update: Wow! That is quite a picture. I can’t imagine walking the streets dressed that way. Happy Birthday Kirby. ;)

Janetr – Thanks! I truly hope DH is going to give it a try also, but I’m not holding my breath. When we get home from the bowling tournament next week, I will see if he will let me help him start a MFP account, just to see where he needs some work (it is meat and potatoes, but he won’t admit that right now).

Becca – Nice work admitting and then hugging yourself. Here’s a hug from me, too (((((hug))))). // My boredom/walking mantra is “I am _____(healthy, happy, sexy, worthy, confident, etc) _____”

Drkatiebug - congrats on the peeling skin. You will soon have the best looking feet around ! ! !

DJ – Let’s get that grip. I did not eat ANYTHING of junk yesterday! I forgot to bring my breakfast to work today, but I keep canned tuna in my desk drawer, so that worked out. That will be my goal for the weekend and week, too. All my calories need to be quality. I already told DS that he will be spending time in the Fitness Center with me, and if not possible, we will do planks in the hotel room. Hopefully DH will be inspired to join us (no pressure, just exposure and baby steps). I don’t really know anything about the calories in “adult beverages”, except what is printed on the label on the rare occasion that I enjoy, but I do believe diet tonic is a good substitute. I refused to give up my Gatorade a few years ago, so the dietician told me I just needed to find another place to cut back. // congrats on your collar bones. Ok, Here’s to our GRIP ! ! !

    Chris (MA) – Happy Birthday Soon ! ! !

Joyce – I hope you are able to donate blood again. Your blood type is SO helpful. When I was diagnosed with RA, I just told them about the new medication, and it is not on the deferral list, so I keep donating. I have been eating plenty of high protein/iron foods this week, since my level was 12.3 last week. I have O+, and although it is not The Universal, it is common for the Blood Center to have FedEx on standby waiting for my Dad and me to complete our donation, so it gets rushed out “hot”. I also have marvelous veins, so they almost always have the new hires working on my Saturday to donate, because I am easy practice and good for their self-esteem. Years ago I sold my plasma, and that was nice, too. I liked that they would give me a free Tetanus booster every 3 months, then the next 4 times that I donated I got an extra $10. Wow, this took on a life of its own. I’m really chatty today. // I have NEVER bowled in front of my son. My high score in life is 101, and his average at the age of 6 was 117. My job is to write the checks, drive the car, and buy the Mountain Dew (pretty much the only time he is allowed to drink pop). // (((Hugs)))) for the hysterectomy and cancer. I’m glad they got it all ! ! !

Mary (fanncy) – Have fun at the Twins game. DH will be watching it (probably on his phone), so maybe they will show your suite. Be sure to wave at me. // Continued good luck with your house(s). // When we bought our current house, the owner had “thousands” of flowers in the back garden. Knowing I wouldn’t care for them properly, and that I mostly just want vegetables, I told her she could take everything except the bleeding hearts. She was SO happy.

Italy – nice step count and cute picture. You are so lucky to have your DD to hold each other accountable and to be supportive and helpful.

Sylvia – We book all our hotels on Hotwire, and they are always a mystery until confirmed and paid. We rarely are ripped off, but sometimes less than impressed. This trip, DH texted asking me to bring pillows, so it sounds like less than thrilled. Hopefully the fitness center is acceptable.

Mia – Good luck at the potluck. You have a wonderful plan, and I’m cheering you on to be successful.

Carey/Cheri – My son LOVES sparkling ice. Is it considered a hydrating fluid? I am still making him limit himself to 1 per day, because I thought it is more like a pop than a water ?!?!?

Crochet decrease means to put 1 stitch into 2 holes. If you are using a double crochet, you: y.o enter hole y.o. pull thru, y.o. enter next hole y.o. pull through, y.o. pull through 2 , y.o. pull through the rest. You now have 1 stitch where you should have 2.

Coffee – I can NOT give it up; the headaches aren’t worth it. I am satisfied drinking it black, or with fat free creamer. I also am learning to like the tea drops that are similar to the MiO product, so I can get a little afternoon “pick me up” without all the extra fat and calories. I admire any and all of you who have been able to remove caffeine from your lives. It just is NOT an option for me at this time.

Not much new in my life, except that DS had basketball until after 10:00pm last night, so I am like one of the walking dead. I'm probably going to be thankful tomorrow that my car has a working A/C since I will be so tired during my drive. DH's nephew is also bowling in the Junior Gold tournament this upcoming week, in the 20U division, so I hope we get a chance to get the 2 families together a few times.

    Hugs to Everyone ! ! !

Having my butternut squash with basil and garlic oil and king prawns with chilli and garlic orgy again today. I estimate 400 cals. Having a couple of small glasses of manzanilla sherry with it as it's Friday.

Bought a couple of deep purple shrugs today, one silky and one lacy, to go with my borrowed dress. Hope they're OK. One is VERY cheap, the other in an online sale.

Watered the garden and pots. The sweet peas are still going "like the clappers".

Did about 1, 000 words this pm. Wrote about one of the most scary episodes of my young life when I was a 9 year old juvenile delinquent and very nearly caught. It still sends shivers down my spine. I was only saved by my magnificent acting abilities! >:)

    Sherry time!

I managed more weeding today! I did half an hour of digging up plants I didn't want in the yard (orange day lilies mostly- they spread far too much) and forty five minutes of weeding/ deadheading. Feels good to be getting over the low I was in. I hope to get outside later this afternoon again.

Keep up all the good work ladies!

I don't know if it is considered a "hydrating fluid". It's carbonated flavored spring water. They do have green tea extract in some of them. I drink 2 a day. Along with my 1 cup of coffee and the rest plain water. Meets my hydration needs.

Thanks for the decrease information. I think it is different with the c2c ( which is corner to corner crochet). I found a great video at Red Heart Yarns that demonstrates that process: http://www.redheart.com/learn/videos/how-crochet-corner-corner-afghan.

I love "Sparkling ICE" and when I first discovered them (DGD got me started) I'd drink 2 - 3 a day. Even though carbonated they still showed up as zero calories. I got a few very sweet bottles and lost my craving for them. I'll usually get in one a day now. Talked to my nurse/MD about them and she told me that SoBo drinks are flavored and have zero calories. I like Vitamin water; but, you have to watch them, depending on whether it has zero calories or 120. I bought 5 of them and do not want to drink them because I don't want to use the calories on something I am drinking. I got a bottle of Smartwater - biggest one I have seen and it is a little over 33 ounces. Easy to keep up with my water intake when I can finish at least one of these and count my coffee (AM & PM). No coffee doesn't keep me awake.

Since I cannot exercise because of having bronchitis - I am really trying to keep at my caloric intake or lower to hopefully not gain any of the weight I have lost. Hopefully tomorrow or Sunday DH will allow me back into the pool and then I can doubt up. One in the AM and once in the late afternoon.

Love the crocheted baby items. Both my sons wore a crocheted outfit for their christening. My Mother had found these 'teeny weenie' socks for my oldest son that from toe to heel was less than an inch (and they were still big on him). Youngest son was larger so they never fit him. As soon as they were walking both were put into 'white' high-tops; never had the soft-sided ones like my oldest sisters' daughters wore (the kind that you usually see people getting 'bronzed').

Mother used to knit so all 3 of us had knitted baby blankets made with 'baby weight' yarn for our babies. I think I gave the only one that 'made it' through using them and them being dragged all over the house to my DGD (oldest one) to put into her keepsake box. I have one that has a huge hole in it; must have snagged it on something.

Been reading a lot (usually in the afternoon it makes me sleepy); but, I certainly like a good mystery novel. Murder mysteries are my favorite.

Been craving pizza all day - used about 1/2 my calories on 'diet food'; and will use the rest for the pizza this evening. I figure a 1lb+ in 'junk food' will take care of most of that. LOL! Might not be the best way to count it; but, too lazy to look it up on MFP.

Well it is Friday. I am off tomorrow and work Sunday. We were having our family picnic tomorrow, but my sister called last evening and my mom is back with her and not doing well. They are having some tests done this morning and then will call me. I hate being so far away. Sounds like maybe she will not be able to live alone. Then DH was up and down all night in the bathroom. He was feeling some better this morning, but not sure if he will make it all day at work or not. Trying to get him to stay home is a stuggle I just did not want to do this morning.

Allison--I would tell him if the furbabies are more important than you, they can start cleaning his house, making his meals, and taking care of his dad.

fitnessbarbi & Cynthiamr & Anne--Welcome, this is a great place for support and friendship. Come often and get to know us and us you. What name would you like to be called?

Katiebug--Hope you are feeling better soon. Sounds like you are better, don't over do to fast.

DJ--Congrates on your NSV. I know when I realized I have collar bones I kept checking to make sure they didn't disappear.

My friend Lee just called and she is having a bad day, came home from work early and is crying. I am stuck here until 5:30. So she was going to call her minster. Please say a prayer for her.

Joyce--Sorry to hear about your FB friend. I agree that I would hope someone would let us know if something happened. I had not thought about it, so going to make sure I tell DH and leave a message with my funeral papers. thanks for bringing that subject up.

Heather--Sending HUGS for your friend. Pray she gets some peace and comfort.

Sylvia--Sounds like your trip is already an adventure. We live in Grand Island just 45 miles from Kearney.

Mary--Sending prayers that the closing on house gets done soon.

Carey--I drink a lot of the sparking Ice, Love it!

Mia--You can do this, I believe in you.

pip--Happy Birthday Kirby, sure am enjoying your pictures of your trip. Next best thing to being there.

At lunch today, DH is still feeling rough, but will not go home and rest. Talked to my sister and mom will be staying with her thru next week as going to have more tests. So things are on hold for now. I will call this evening to see if they are coming to the picnic and decide then what we will do. Also called my friend Lee and she is still really upset, so told her I would check again when I get off work and if she needs me to I will go over and sit with her awhile. What I really want to do is going home and go to bed. But am off tomorrow.Enjoy today and remember we are not in this alone.
    Blessings, Vicki GI NE

Hello everyone! I had to drive DH to an appointment. So, I got up early and did my strong lift 5x5 over at our old house. The realtor is saying that the roof needs to be done before they can close. We hear different things. We were told it could be escrowed. It's FHA so rules! They want us to rewrite the agreement adding the 5,000 on and paying for it
And getting ii back at closing. Of course that will increase our realtor fee and closing fee! Don't know what to do!

Katla- have a good ride! I hope you stay healthy.

Terri - I will be sure to wave at your DH tomorrow! I'll be the one in the twins shirt!

MNMargaret- thanks! Very fun but busy! I read that drinking 2-3oz of pickle juice will get rid of cramps right away! I am going to try it next time.

Drkatiebug- that is a lot of steps for mowing the lawn! I usually have to take breaks every hour.

    Have a great day everyone!

Pip love the birthday picture of Kirby. Happy Birthday to him. The picture with the show girl I unfortunately does not find flatter him. I think better of him than that since he is so good to you. I think we need to remember this is a public forum that anyone can access. I know I have privately messaged members here when I wish to discuss issues that I do not want on a public forum. I also know from other sites that some members can get pretty offensive that is why I am here on this forum.
Once you hit the post button on a public forum it is for the whole world to see family, friends, bosses. Sometimes I get so comfortable with all of you I need to remind myself of the darker side of internet.

Lillian prayers for you in Canada.

Vicki, the IRS scam was in our local news the other day. I still get the calls all the time, I just hang up on them now. Of course some day they will change their city and I won't know it's them and will answer it. I just don't understand how these guys from Pakistan can call the the city listed on my call waiting is 15 miles away.

In fact it was the MRI that showed the tumor I had in my uterus which led to a hysterectomy which was cancerous. It is difficult for me to say I had cancer since I never knew I had it and the hysterectomy took care of it. I had every 6 week exams to make sure it was all gone. I mean, they took everything out, including my cervix.

That reminded me of a friend who used to put his receiver down on the counter when he got one of those computer generated calls. Every now and then he would check to see if it had finally hung up. He wanted the company calling him to get the largest phone bill possible. He would also ask unwanted callers if they could hold for a second and then put the phone down on the counter and walk away. Nowadays there are a lot of unlimited phone plans so I’m not sure it would cost a company any more for those computer generated calls, but it would be a waste of time for those live callers and might still be worth it just to annoy them back a little bit.

I think that pain which led to the MRI was a blessing in disguise. You had as lucky brush with cancer. I do understand the reluctance to call yourself a “cancer survivor” though because you did not have to go through what other people have gone through to get to the cured point. But I’m sure you had a brief period of time where you were worried about it having spread and wondering if they got it all.

I cannot recall if I mentioned it here already, but one of the unexpected blessings of having gastric bypass surgery was that my doctor found a small (extremely small) tumor on my stomach lining and removed it during my bypass surgery. It was biopsied and turned out to be cancer. The good news was that it was an especially slow growing kind of cancer and the margins around the removal site were all clear so an oncologist told me I was cured and didn’t need any additional treatment. A lucky brush with cancer which gives me a small hint as tou how you view your own brush as well.

Sharon in Lethbridge – I had to look up sigmoidoscopy. Does not sound like a fun time. I hope your husband is a good patient and that all is well.

I had a ‘71 Cutlass Supreme convertible! Dark blue body with white top and interior. I bought it from my parents when it was 6 years old. I drove it until the rear bumper fell off when it was 13. Replaced the bumper with a heavy piece of wood and sold it to a girlfriend who drove it for 2 more years before she gave it to her boyfriend. That car was still running when I lost track of it 2 years later. 17 years and still running with the original engine. Dang! They don’t make ‘em like that anymore.

Barbie – “I don't use food as entertainment anymore.” What a great statement! I intend to quote you often.

Lisa – YES!!! The messages you try to give people considering surgery are precisely the ones that helped me the most when I was considering surgery. Now I try to impart the same messages as well. I add the sentiment you expressed yesterday – this is not a solution for everyone. I recently signed up to be a bari partner for the clinic where I had my surgery. I just got my first assignment so I don’t know how this is going to work yet. Basically, I am available for a new patient to ask questions and to either reassure them something is normal or tell them to call the clinic to get a professional opinion.

OK. I made it through the potluck. We sure do have some good cooks who work here. Fortunately we also have some cooks who are calorie conscious so I was able to select multiple items, enjoy more than just what I brought and still not blow my lunch calorie budget. I even had dessert! Some darling person brought a fresh fruit salad so I was able to say “No Thanks” to the honey drenched doughnuts without appearing to be a spoilsport. Yay! Win, win, win all the way around.

    Good night all!
I hereby commit to doing my floor, strength and weight exercises tomorrow morning before we leave. o:) I won't have time to do the machines, but the walking should take care of most of the calories. Will set the alarm.
Really looking forward to seeing our friends after two years. Seems a bit weird to be meeting them in a gallery café, but they haven't got time for a proper visit as he has aged parents.
    Off to read now.
Lots of love to all. Hugs for the sufferers. Kudos to the losers.

Quick check in...got up at 5:10am to go to C25K class. Perfect weather, 63F and drizzly. 5 other women in class, I'm pretty sure I'm the oldest but very pleased to be one of the fitter ones. All that elliptical has been very beneficial. I actually RAN for 1/2 mile, TWICE! Didn't collapse and wasn't sucking air like some, quitting smoking last year also a big plus. Hoping this will get me to that goal weight (which is now 5 lbs. away) by the end of the summer. I was so pleased with myself, exhausted now though.

My step grandaughter accompanied me to work today. I worked 1/2 day, we walked to the post office with Jake the rescue dog, strolled downtown with a stop at the toy store where we both got mood rings, then to a park at the beach which has a hamburger/fish/ice cream joint that is heavenly. I bought her lunch but I had low sodium turkey on a deli flat that I bought from home. We walked, she jumped around for another hour and then we both had ice cream. YUM! After the yucky weather this morning the day was absolutely beautiful. We both had a great time and I'm very happy.

Going to a friend's for a cookout tomorrow, haven't seen him in about 5 years and am thrilled to reconnect. To the beach with another friend on Sunday. Looking forward to a great weekend and hope all of you enjoy also.

Thank you for addressing this Margaret.

Margaretturk- thank u for your reply and I am sorry that pic of Kirby w/a showgirl offended anyone. This was also posted on Facebook but we r aware of what the internet postings can do. There was nothing posted that would jeopardize his job or put him in a negative light. Anyone that knows Kirby knows it was done in fun and I think in good taste

Just chiming in on the Sparkling Ice conversation to say that it does contain sucralose, which is Splenda. I didn't realize until I offered my son a taste of mine one day and he said he could taste the artificial sweetener. I like the La Croix sparkling drinks that have zero calories and no added sweetener of any kind. The lime is especially good. I also like the coconut, but it's hard to find around here. They might not taste as good to you though if you are used to drinking the sweetened Sparkling Ice.

I'm certainly not judging (lest my Diet Dr. P habit be judged), but I think you are right to limit the number your son has.

Drkatiebug I like LaCroix water too. I also like Target blueberry sparkling water. Splenda is intensely sweet. I wish I could endorse it because a friend of my father was on the team at Monsanto that helped to create Splenda, and he was a great guy.
