NO_Excuses_515 wrote: »I’m feeling a little down today. I stepped on the scale this morning and it went up another half a pound. I weigh myself almost every morning and I’m used to the scale bouncing around. But I was really shooting for about a 1.5 loss this week and instead I’ve got a 0.5 gain instead so far. And I’ve been good on both my eating and exercise this week. Now I’ve got two more days before I do my official monthly weigh in (on Aug 2nd because for some reason I didn’t weigh myself on June 1st or July 1st) and I’m not where I wanted to be for the month of July either. OK, I guess that is enough of my pity party. Thanks for letting me vent.
Caught up again but read many of the posts on my phone and didn’t take notes on everything, so…
For all of you who have lost weight in July, way to go ladies!
For those of you travelling, have fun!
For those of you who are ill or injured (or have family ill or injured), I’m saying a prayer for your quick recovery.
We’ve had the story of the dentist killing the lion on our news here as well. I don’t hunt and am not a big fan of guns, but I’ve had mixed feeling on this one. In general, I’m OK with those who hunt for food or to help with overpopulation. I’m not a fan of those who hunt big game for sport but I think this dentist is being tried by the public without all the details (as happens all too often). And now there are stories circulating on Facebook that people should boycott Jimmy Johns because the owner is another who enjoys hunting big game for sport.
Becca (@annr) – Your attitude is truly inspirational. I too am doing it for myself this time and I am bound and determined that this time the weight will not come back. I’m not looking for the miracle quick weight loss but I’m working to make a lifestyle change. I think I need to print off a couple of your posts and carry them around with me for inspiration.
Chris (@mikesmom1983) – LOVE the silver heels! I probably would have taken them off for dancing too.
Lillian (@lilymay2) – Your granddaughter is adorable!
Janet (@janetr7476) – You look fabulous in your new wild pants, and I like the pink jacket.
Joyce (@jmkmomm) – “He knows I have lost weight... But he also knows I will go back to my bad habits.” Charlie sounds just like my hubby. Just remember, we are not doing this for them. We are doing it for ourselves! Remember, tomorrow is August and that starts a clean slate.

He has killed a protected black bear and fish. Guess he doesn't think laws pertain to him. Gayle Minneapolis0 -
Drkatiebug- Go for it! Such a sweet thought from your DH. Flattering clothing goes a long way. He must love you lots.
I just had zucchini noodles for the first time. I haven't got a spiralizer so I cut them with my julienne peeler. Bit watery, but delicious as the bolognese sauce was very strong. 350 cals with extra broccoli as I grated a bit of parmesan over it. I now have four more double servings to freeze. My freezer is bursting at the seams though. :ohwell:
My friend has texted me so I am off to Portsmouth on the train on Sunday. I will be interested to see how her renovated flat is coming on. We will stroll along the long promenade and have lunch somewhere. I have half a mind to join her in Paris on the 23rd when she meets up with her son and family who currently live in Hong Kong. I don't want to crash the party, but there may be a few minutes to do something together. Haven't seen her son since he was a toddler, apart from photos. Gorgeous granddaughter. I can fly from our very local airport. Will discuss possibilities with her, but DH's old uni friend was talking about coming around then. Wish he'd firm up arrangements. :grumble:
I used to go on holiday with this friend when I was single so she did feel a bit left in the lurch when I met DH. Very glad she's got over it! I've known her since I was 11. She is one of our group of four schoolfriends who get together twice a year. Feel very close to her.

Linda/IA - Thank you so much, I worry that I'm too old for wearing "wild" pants, but I'm going to I definitely understand your frustration, I'm in the same boat. Am exercising more ofter and harder than I ever have in my life and staying within my calories and keeping protein high and carbs low and just am not seeing an change in the scale. I've decided to quit "obsessing" about the number and concentrate on how I feel physically and emotionally. I know that's not easy, but I'm trying. Hang in there, it will happen.
Janetr OKC0 -
Hello everyone! We are at the airport waiting for our plane to load. My DH upgraded us to first class so should be a great experience.
Joyce - I do the exercise so I can eat a little more like i want to. Together eating right and exercise is much better but I have a hard time changing my eating habits 100% of the time.
Sharon- it sounds like you have been very busy and having a great time with your GK's.
Allison - good for you standing up for yourself!
Heather - I agree, men really need compliments and encouragement just as much if not more than women. They don't get compliments from other men like we get from both sexes. My DH gets the biggest smile on his face when I tell him how sexy he looks...
Sylvia- yea! You are so lucky to have that lady help you!
Janetr- my DH was raised that way too. He couldn't even play cards. Line dancing is great fun. And David did it Naked!
Pip - or caught on one of the millions of cameras they've got!
DJ - have a good ride. Hopefully your shoulder is on the mend!
Have a great day everyone!

DJ – I will be forced to continue in my knowledge that my DH is “brain damaged”. Yesterday he texted me “KFC”. I responded 1 piece of grilled chicken and a small cole slaw, and I put it immediately into my MFP phone app. He then texted me ½ hour later, “30 minute wait for grilled chicken, so not getting you anything”. He brought home pot pies for DS and himself, plus a 16 piece original recipe chicken bucket. I just can’t fix stupid! // The bland, low fiber food for the colonoscopy is only for a few days, so I will survive. And if all goes well, I won’t have to do it again for 10 more years.
Janetr – WOW ! ! ! I also thought pole dancing at the beginning. I understand it is wonderful exercise for cardiovascular and muscle building. Hubba-Hubba
Joyce – I do like the peacefulness in the morning, and the fact that I can take my time getting everything ready for the day. But, believe it or not, the Fitness Center starts getting busy around 5:00am, and doesn’t really get empty until around 10:00am, then picks up again during lunch, then again after the 7:00am - 3:00pm shift gets done, then again when the 9:00am - 5:00pm shift gets done. It’s even busy on Sunday’s, especially when the Packers have a day game. // You Can Do This ! ! ! And you look marvelous, and will continue to look better and better with all your hard work. I will happily step in to be your “husband/cheerleader”.
Allison – Wow! You go girl ! ! ! The last time my DH accused me of doing nothing I went “on strike” and started doing nothing, and he saw how wrong he was in the first place (but never an apology). Sometimes it takes a whack upside the head with a 2x4 to get through to those men. Hugs and Cheers for you ! ! !
Peach – how big or little are these ants? Grease or piss ants are pretty tiny, but carpenter ants are big, and almost impossible to get rid of completely on your own. The first thing we did was walk around the outside of the house and cut down any branches that were hanging over the roof, because that is another common way for ants to get inside. I also apply ant poison to the trunk of every tree.
Cory – Happy Dancing with you for avoiding the donut. Yay ! ! !
Heather – Sounds like you have a lovely weekend planned with your friend. I love getting together with people I hadn’t seen in ages. It’s such a great feeling when the conversation flows, and renews. Enjoy !
Linda – Don’t Give Up ! You can do this. We will keep doing it together.
Mary (fancy) – Hooray for DH and an upgrade to First Class. Starting the trip on the right foot for a Second Honeymoon. Envious.
On the Dentist vs Lion subject. My DH still listens to Minneapolis-area radio shows, and claims there is some extortion going on as well. He claims that yes, The Dentist paid the tour guides to take him to the location to shoot a lion for sport. Then after he succeeded, the guides told him that he shot a protected lion with a GPS tracking device, and they then told him that if he didn’t give them an additional $100,000 they would turn him in to the Authorities. He refused, so they turned him in and plastered it all over Facebook. So, there is a whole lot of wrong going on regarding this story. Everyone is likely going to see prison time, which means no one wins regardless of the truth (which we likely will never know the whole truth). The entire situation is sad beyond words.
The Shoe Conversation : I wore heels (usually 3” or less) for all the years that I was a hairdresser. When DH and I got married in Las Vegas in 2000, I was already 3+ months pregnant, and since it was my 4th pregnancy, there was no knowing how big I would be by the time of the wedding. So, I glued “bling” to a pair of plain white tennis shoes, and bought my dress in a small store 3 days before the wedding. Personally, I think I looked amazing that day; tea-length deep purple dress with off-white slip showing at neckline and below the dress, fancy tennis shoes, and a big bling bow in the back of my hair. I now own several pairs of fancy flats for when I need to be dressy. If I can get away with wearing my work-out shoes, I will.
Someone asked about Socializing with my Dad. My Mom had been sick and injured for MANY years before she passed almost 4 years ago. My Dad was her Primary CareTaker, and I was her Secondary. We wouldn’t trade it for the world, but since my Dad is able to have a social life again, he really whoops it up as much as he can. My DH prefers the hard 80’s music, but I have always preferred 40’s through light 70’s, Country, Spiritual, Classical, and Jazz. DH started his Mid-life crisis about 3 years ago, and just doesn’t want to do anything besides what interests him personally, so I do things with my Dad that we both enjoy. Sometimes my Dad takes young-teens with him, if one of his co-workers or friends has a child or grandchild that doesn’t get the “artistic exposure” that he thinks they deserve. He truly enjoys watching young people at their first experience at a ballet, or symphony, or musical, etc. Plus, this gives my DH the opportunity to watch his concerts or ballgames on TV without me whining about being bored and wanting to go somewhere or do something. Yes, it’s selfish of DH to not be willing to try things that I enjoy, but like I said earlier in this post, I can’t fix stupid. All I can do is keep hoping that eventually he will be bored with staying home alone, and envious that I am out having fun, and he might finally want to join me/us. In the meantime, I will continue to take care of myself, and enjoy my life to the best of my ability (and income).
Since tomorrow is Aug 1, and only 2 of us work, we did our contest weigh-in today. One gal lost 12 pounds. I lost 3. The other 2 gained. So, we all got our money back. I then asked our Fitness guy to do my measurements and body fat thing (electrodes on certain parts of the body). He also wants to write me a new work-out program, but that makes me nervous, since I don’t want to burn-out my joints any faster than necessary. (Since I needed to buy new underwear, I’m sure I lost more fat than the scale is showing, but I want it more visible.) I’m going to take home an old poster board, and make myself a huge chart with weight, measurements, and body fat %. That will be my new motivator (except, of course, the desire to be healthy and happy and sexy).
Ok, only 90 minutes left of work, then run some errands before heading to pizza and music with my Dad. DS is home doing the chores he avoided all week, and DH is golfing (and hopefully not drinking too much, because if I have to go get him it will put us about 2 hours behind schedule). And yes, I will take it easy on the pizza and appetizers. I will log before I eat, and only have water with lemon to drink.
Hugs for Everyone ! ! !
Terri in Milwaukee (no news today on the MkeLion, but I heard rumor that he has his own twitter account)0 -
Well it is Friday and I am doing by happy dance. I am working 7-3 and then I am off until Tuesday. I do have a lady coming in to job shadow me for several hours today. We are going camping this evening with DS and family. Will be back Sunday afternoon. So will be out of touch till then.
Becca--Thanks for sharing the wise words. We have to do this for ourselves. Everyone has to find their happiness in themselves. Depending on others is not healthy or lasting.
Lily--What a cutie. I know spending time with the grandchildren is such a speical time. Last evening we stopped over at DS's to drop off the wtermelon for the weekend and DGD was telling me all the plans she has for us for the weekend. Going to keep me on my toes.
janetr--love the pants. You look great in them! Do wounder about the pole in the room. Something you can share. LOL
Allison--Proud of you for standing up for yourself and doing things for you.
Sharon--Sending HUGS for your friend. That is happening a lot these days. Before it met something if you were a hard workers and been there a long time. Not anymore.
Well the job shadow went well. Not sure what the boss is thinking as not she has another next week so be a while till this one will know. Just makes me mad, do it already so we can get someone trainned. I am off in about 20 minutes so hope you all have a great weekend and I will be back on Monday.
Blessings, Vicki GI NE0 -
Hi friends! The last coat of varnish got laid down on the wood floor this morning so I took advantage of DD#2 being home to watch the dog to go grocery shopping. On the way I decided to indulge in my favorite breakfast at McDonalds. I was sitting there reading my paper and went to drink my coffee. The lid came off and the hot coffee poured down my chest and mostly seemed to pool in my bra, leaving me with a blistered burn. GAAAAAA so I reported it to the manager and decided to just do the shopping since DD had to go to work and I had limited time. I did get a free coffee and both the manager and I ensured the lid was on tightly but it came off later very easily which makes me wonder if the lids are defective. So anyway by the time I got home the blister had deflated and other than being red and painful (somewhat) it looks ok, so I will forgo the medical attention. Sheesh!!!
Teri: (((hugs))) and smiles
Jane: sending healing thoughts to your son
Janetr: just say they were practice marriages! Now you are perfect at it!
Ann: I noticed that at the Y too. The old ladies who are fat and saggy walk around naked while the young fit women who actually look good naked cover up like they are scared to death someone will see something. It’s really too bad they seem so ashamed of their bodies. They also make a HUGE production of covering up to dress, some of them even put on loose “muumuu” type dresses and undress/dress underneath them!
Alison: that’s certainly annoying about the sink! You deserve better on the home front. Just sayin’
Mary: I’m just glad they called me before they cut the countertops out of the slab. Now that would have been bad!
Patceoh: I too struggle with always being hungry!
Margaret: I too was appalled at that dentist’s actions
Sylvia (and Terri) I don’t go to sonic either because of the low wages. DD#2 used to work there too, making just over 2$ an hour and being promised tips. However, no one tips at a fast food place that I know of!
Heather: I love your cheese exercise!
Vicki: so how come the manager doesn’t fire this person?
Katla: I see on the weather channel that you are indeed in a weather inferno! Stay cool
Michele: I don’t think any of the sonics here are locked up, at least I don’t know of any, they all seem to have dining rooms in addition to the drive through
DJ I looked at a sample that was light grey with lots of glass chips in it so the overall look was glittery. I really liked it, but something held me back. My best friend finally said she thought I’d get tired of it. I think she’s right. I went with a soft pearly grey
Lily: darling picture!
Chris: love, love, love the shoes. I would so wear them!
Janetr: wowser!!! You look great!
Kim; yup…FMP! :O I have several pairs! Hang in there and those pounds will be gone soon
Sharon: minutes! LOL I guess I can say it’s a medical thing with ‘ meaning seconds. I timed myself. I 20 inch
walk took 1 ½ second LOL
Well I know I didn’t respond to all of you but it’s time to get up and get some exercise. I keep thinking it’s Saturday so I keep panicking about getting ready to go out for dinner for DH;s birthday Sunday.
Take care, Meg from Omaha where it is hot and humid again!

Terri - Laughing at that hubba hubba. Thank you, not sure if its about the pole or my "wild" pants. Next pic I will have to not do it in front of the closet doors, lol Although all three bedrooms have them!!
I had a colonoscopy two years and don't remember having to eat a special diet. I was not uncomfortable at all afterwards. The only bad part was the nasty stuff I had to drink the night before0 -
Margaret, I have an email account that is just for my online shopping habit (yahoo). I have another (gmail) that I use only for professional contacts. I set this one up when I no longer had work email. Then, I have my personal email account that I use for church, volunteering, and everything else. Most of my family uses texting instead of email. About once a week, I open up the yahoo account and delete most without reading. DH has his own email. Our Amazon account is tied to it, but everything else is his and his alone. No way could he stand the volume of email that flows through my accounts. He would have an anxiety attack, for sure.0
-
Vicki - it's the frame of the closet doors. All the closet doors in the bedrooms are sliding glass mirrors. lol Thanks about the pants.
Meg - That will be my ANSWER from now on, perfect at it now. I have learned tho that some things are just not as big a deal as I used to thing they were. Thank you for the "wowser".
Janetr OKC0 -
Mary in MN - Yup, we didn't play cards either, only Disney movies, ugh. I too tell my husband he looks good and he is sexy looking. I love his long, long legs in tight jeans I tell him several times a day I love him and thank him always for all he does for me and for taking such good care of me. It's important to do these things in a marriage.
Have a wonderful time, First Class , wow!!0 -
Good read, thanks for sharing.

Allison WTG!
Terri thanks for the reminder when these news media stories hit we do not always have all the facts. The are often times slanted to create the most buzz. Unfortunately the man in question went into hiding because he has received death threats, so it makes it harder for the truth to come out.
Got most of my e-mail work done. drkatiebug turns out I accidentally created two accounts when I started working on this. I like the idea of using the second account for those things I deem this important. I was going to delete it but now I think there will be a use for it. Thanks for the ideas.

Ina - Welcome! Nice phrasing there in the "3' wide" sentence.
Heather - do you imagine one kind of cheese or a variety?
I don't have cheese cravings, but Wednesday was ambush cheese. And I went to the reception straight from work, so hadn't had supper.
"Slowly I began to grow into the kind of person I always wanted to be. I am an unfinished project, but I am no longer a mess." -- That's beautiful.
Reminds me of "Be as you would seem to be," which I seem to recall Mary Renault attributing to an ancient Greek philosopher, but gets mainly "German proverb" on a Google search, though W'Pedia gives it to "writer and adage collector" Thomas Fuller(1654-1734)
Found Hairy Bikers chicken here
http://www.goodtoknow.co.uk/recipes/535184/hairy-biker-s-spanish-style-chicken-bake
and it's in my cookbook program.
What sort of proportions do you use for the quinoa/rice/lentil mix? 1:1:1?
That's quite a response from the restaurant!
Michele - too true, on the restaurant interp of light on the butter. I'll ask for half the usual amount of butter or dressing, on the side. Then I know what I'm getting. I've been known to send food back if the dressing was on the salad rather than on the side.
Allison - well, the Zumba-sweating is something to look forward to. The hydro table sounds lovely - how does it work? I mean, do you lie down on it and it squirts jets of water on you?
About why you're binging - that's something to think about, but only for analyzing triggers, NOT for beating yourself over the head.
<<hugs>> Good for you, standing up when Tom said you don't do anything.
Tonithewriter - YAAAY on the inches lost! And on the workout in spite of exhaustion.
Barbie - "reinventing your life" is indeed a great phrase & reward.
And thanks for being in charge of this series of threads!
Lisa - just, wow. The folks at that restaurant got more than their money's worth when they hired you.
Tulip Lori - Super loss! And Huzza! for the really changed eating habits.
Colleen in Va - thanks. I did get back on track yesterday.
Carol/peach - hey, I'd rather have tyops than some of the peculiar changes the iPhone makes.
MNMargaret -best of luck with the email troubles.
Cheri, DrKatie, JanetR, Betty ...
(With apologies to Henry Mancini)
Slow weight loss -- that's the way to go.
You'll stick with it, you know,
and shrink.
Just stay steady.
When it's ready
Your bod will lose inches. Here's water -- let's drink!
Slow weight loss drives us 'round the bend
But shrug it off, my friend.
Get thin.
We're all after the same winning loss.
Those doughnuts get a toss.
Food ain't my stinkin' boss.
Slow weight loss
will win.
JanetR - Wow! Look at you, rockin' those pants! I think I'd be scared to buy them, but you make 'em look most excellent.
Mary from MN - have fun in Vegas!
Congrats to your grandson and his team!
Oooh, first class!
Gayle - 14 pounds! Wonderful!
Terri - we all need patience. Some of us need more than others. A bit of chemical patience makes sense, given your husband's approach to food.
Larry and I used to walk around the house in the whatever, but that ended when his younger brother moved in with us.
Good news about the RA med and the colonoscopy; sorry to hear about the boring foods.
Your dad is amazing!
Chris in MA - cool on the Butts & Guts. Congrats on your morning retrainig. And boy, does that trip to Mexico sound wonderful!
Linda in IA - fun shoes. Me, though, I stay flat on the ground.
Hey, you've been good on eating and exercise -- have you taken measurements lately? Your body will catch up to your actions.
Sylvia - good thoughts on cleaning hte rental. The last time we rented a car, the contract said NO PETS.
Let us know how the multicooker does!
I'll keep my fingers crossed for the kids' mother's reform.
Lillian - what a cutie!
Me, I don't care for cooked peas, but looove me some raw fresh pea pods. Been a long, long time since I had a chance to eat any.
Happy birthday!
Jane - how lovely, the photo & preserves. Hope your son's feeling better soon..
Becca - Lovely, telling the woman how inspirational she is, and her response.
And how howlingly unobservant of your husband! But yeah, in the end, it has to be for yourself. You're doing a damned good job. Keep it up.
Patceoh - sounds like a lovely week. <Ringing bells and blowing whistles> for your reworked appetite.
Vicki - you and me, back to basic after an easy-eating Wednesday.
have a great family weekend.
Katla - very thoughtful of you, reskedding the riding lesson. Geez, here it just *feels* like it's over 100, but the temps are still in the 90s.
Michele - Your plans for the weekend sound wonderful.
I hope your caricaturist is better than the one my cousin paid $5 some 20 years ago in the French Quarter. We both came out looking like young Jackie O. <eyeroll> Sorry; one thing I do NOT have is a cute little tip-tilted nose.
Kim from N Cal - <<hugs>> about the camp fat. You can do it.
Something I've done, living in heat w/o a/c, is not-quite-fill a 2-liter bottle with water (maybe leave 2" empty), squeeze out the air, screw on the lid and freeze it. At night, wrap it in a towel and keep it close. I'll sometimes take it out of the towel and roll it around on my body, then put the towel around it again. Then I'll drink a bit of the melted ice.
For a nice, cool, low-cal meal, try gazpacho.
Here's one recipe; I think it could go lower on olive oil.
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/gazpacho-recipe.html
However, a NYTimes article (can't copy the URL for some reason) about gazpacho in Seville sez the oil is necessary; the soup's an emulsion.
Joyce - Oh fergoshsake. What a discourager that man is. Any chance of couples therapy?
You can do it. Get exercising, and you'll have even *more* energy. If you don't get moving, cut calories. Log those meals and minutes. You *CAN* do it.
dreamwriter - your friend losing her job sucks ditchwater through a soda straw. But it sounds as if she's someone who should be able to find a new position fairly easily.
The grandkids sound fun.
mamenat - what sort of exercise are you doing? You mention resistance - if it's all strength, you might want to add in cardio. Try changing the calorie limits to whatever MPF says will let you lose 2 lbs/week.
Me, I got fat without kids. Did it all myself, me and my big mouth. <wry smyle> What got me losign weight - first just by cutting out junk food and swapping white carbs for whole grains &c - was fear of diabetes.
DJanet - YAY on the end-of-month pound!
AND the good sleep, and shoulder easing up.
Cory - congrats on the doughnut turndown!
DrKatie, that face does not look to me like the face of someone who needs to lose 50 pounds. I think his idea's lovely.
Meg Blair - Owie! That's painful indeed. Have you tried aloe? Also, when I had a big blistered burn on my leg many years ago, the doc suggested I get vitamin E capsules and squeeze them out onto the burn.

We have a lot of Janets in this group! Trying to get acquainted a bit at a time.
Janet OKC, I also thought it was a stripper pole at first! LOL Love the pants-you are a fashionista and you do look skinny.
Gayle, the GD is so cute!
JanetMMcC I am as much an accidental writer as an accidental advocate and they both happened at the same time. I wrote my first book as a whistleblower to the IL government. I was pretty successful at that! So, I started doing a little more writing, just articles mostly. I wrote a column for NAMI for awhile. Then I was approached by a couple magazines and they paid me for some work. A little magazine called Rise, another called Empirical magazine, Adoption Today, and I have been interviewed for some other magazines like A Children's Voice for Child Welfare League of America. I have also done a few short pieces for USA Today, Trails.com, and a few others.
I just moved to MN from IL, and we may only be here temporarily, so I went into private practice as a Special Education Advocate and Systems' Consultant. I consult nationally now. I do some freelance writing to supplement income while I'm getting my business up and running. You can see my website at www.seasconsulting.org
It is true, weight loss is slow, but I once thought hey, if I lose a lb per week, in a year's time, I will have lost 52 lbs. So I have a 9 day streak of logging food and exercise and am keeping my goals. At least I'm trending in the right direction. Going down!

Just a note to report my first experience with my multi cooker. It arrived about noon and I ran out and bought a pork roast to try it out. It was so easy! I used the pressure cooker function and cooked the roast, along with red potatoes and frozen green beans in 50 minutes. Well, it was a little more than that because I used the browning feature first to brown the roast, then the timer doesn't start counting down till it gets up to pressure. We sat down to eat about 90 minutes after I opened the box. And we loved it! The meat was so tender and the potatoes and green beans were very flavorful. Hubby and I like green beans that are overlooked and mushy (southern style) and these were really mushy. Most people probably wouldn't care for them. I just used black pepper, onion powder, roasted garlic and a little bit of ginger. Hubby had to put his own salt on at the table. He's getting used to that.
This is the one I got:

Good evening! Thanks for all of the hugs. I had just had a really poopy day. Exercises hurt/didn't go like they should have. Work sucked. Got a blow to my heart from a 'friend.' Kids fighting. Exhaustion. Pain. Desire for my independence and my house to be my own again. So, although the emotions were real, I just had a lot of self pity going on. Hope I'm done for a while.
Pip - I'm glad you've asked for pain meds. The constant pain wears down your reserves in a hurry!
JaneMartin - I am so glad you seem to be happy in your new home AND have space for a garden. What a great thing that the little boy and his mom acknowledged you.
Lisa - Someday I want to grow up to have your physical strength and your self-confidence. Beautiful family!
Meg - I'm so happy to see you posting more. I'm sorry about the ouchie from your coffee!
Michele and Rori - It's looking like August 30 is a good possibility! I'm glad to have something to look forward to.
Alison - Good for you for sticking up for yourself! My ex could never understand how much time and work it took to parent and keep the house running in addition to working 30 hours per week. In his mind, because he worked 40 hours per week (and made lots more), he was the only one in the family who worked and deserved to have whatever he wanted.
Terri - I think it's awesome that you don't let your hubby's selfishness keep you from going out and gaving fun with your dad!
Well, that's the extent of my memory right now...
I found out today that I am in the sling/immobilizer for still another week. Six weeks!!! After next week, I will begin a weaning process. I will still need to wear it when I sleep and when I'm anywhere I might get jostled. PT is going well and they are very pleased with my range of motion increase. This week, *I* can even see the improvement! However, I learned the hard way yesterday that I can NOT fasten my own seatbelt yet without causing a painful setback.
Since I am my own worst critic when it comes to wondering if I'm being a wimp about pain, I had been really hard on myself because I am still so tired and still hurt. It finally hit home this week as to just how extensive and serious my surgery was. I had fallen into the same mindset of my co-workers by thinking that, since the surgery was arthroscopic, that it wasn't particularly serious. The therapist I'm working with this week gave me a long talk about the extent of the work that was done. I also looked again at my surgery photos and actually counted the number of mesh attachments that connect to the bolt in my shoulder. I'm thinking about making copies and passing them out at work.
I'm trying hard not to stress over it since I have no control over it, but my son still has no clue where he is going to school this year! He also has only temporary housing lined up! If UNC Charlotte doesn't finish approving his financial aid, he will be going to a community college and he hasn't even decided which one of those is his backup school. Yikes!!! Ah well, life happens whether we're prepared or not.
Well, I think I've officially skipped dinner tonight. I just don't feel like eating and missing the calories won't hurt me so I think I'm going to bed as soon as I can kick everyone out of the living room (still sleeping on the couch).
Have a great rest of the night. See you in August!

Well today son and I were treated to a nice lunch. Husband took us to a new place that has just opened up. I ordered a sandwich made up of salami, goat cheese, artsy lettuce (I have no idea what it was but it was lacy looking), tomatoes and some sort of balsamic vinegar. I only ate half of the sandwich, and out of that I only ate the lower part of the bread, and piled it all on open-faced. It came with yam fries and I picked 8 out and put on my plate. Then we went to an ice cream shop and I picked out a flavor that pretty much said it all. Death By Chocolate.... But I logged it in, and I did ok today. I had walked 60 minutes prior to this heavenly experience so I had it covered. Son got a shearing at the local barber shop, so by Sept his head should be perfect. Hopefully he will take to heart all my nagging and use Noxema on his neck and face area to combat his complexion being 16 yrs oldish.
Yes I think I shall have that lady at the pool a friend for a long time. I would imagine being as fit as she is, she might be a bit shunned by the women in her age bracket. That is just my opinion. Just like at my age of 53, I seem to be more comfortable around people my same body type. Sadly society dictates alot of what we do, and how we act. The beautiful people of the world do not befriend ladies like me that are 238 lbs. Not that all communities do this mind you. Although many slim people do have a "token fat person" to make them feel great about themselves. I sound harsh, and many of you that are slim might be offended, but that has been my observation in life. I think that is why I found our nudist resort so refreshing. The first visit I was approached by a very slim, tan, tattoo'ed lady and her and I struck up a conversation. I remember thinking, "Wow, she is a beautiful lady, and she is giving me the time of day, actually caring what I have to say about the world, how cool is that!" I know that is silly, but it was California. Alot of times the Greek Goddess's of the World do not get taken seriously. They just assume from the get go that we are substandard in the main stream of life.
To the friend that said she was going to print out my comment and carry it around with her as inspiration...wow...and another friend said I had wise words. I have never considered myself inspirational, or wise..and Im kind of in awe of those comments. I suppose I do have alot of life lessons, being a Navy Retired Chiefs Wife (and yes I do have to capitalize those, its the law! ) but we all have life lessons to share and become inspired. When we retired, I was resigned to the fact that I would never really have a group of gals I could grow old, learn from be inspired. I was wrong. I have TOPS here, (as dramatic as they all are sometimes) and I have you all. Its really a comfort!
