This is an interesting thread! For those that want to really track their data I suggest a Garmin bike computer then join Garmin connect. Congratulations for everyone on the site that loves to cycle. I started cycling to work decades ago and now it has blossomed as a passion to be an ultra endurance cyclist. Below is an example of my July mileage. The graph shows my building base miles for a 24 hour time trial race in November. I just did the Race Across the West (860 Miles) which is the mountainous part of Race Across America (3000 Miles), I did it with a two rider relay. The the mileage may seem to pile up too quickly but I have already a base from the past two years.

Feel free to ask me questions on equipment, fitness, or if you have are doing more riding I would like to pick your brain.

Nice to have you on here @distanthorizons -- I use a Garmin and have to say that it helped change the way I ride being able to have stats like cadence & hr in conjunction with speed/distance accessible all on the same screen. I would like to invest in a power sensor but haven't taken the bite on that one yet.
    What Garmin do you use?
How do you even begin to train for a 24 hour TT? What do you anticipate your distance will be in the TT?

    Cheers

I did it by riding a Super Randonneur series ... a 200K, 300K, 400K, and 600K all within certain time limits. Plus all the training rides for those.

The 24-hour TT is similar to a 400K distance for me. :)

@distanthorizons ... all the best on that. I'm a little bit jealous. They don't have 24-hour TTs over here in Australia. I've really enjoyed the ones I've done, and wish I could do more. :)

First ride in July ... 27.5 km on the cycleway on my Marinoni Ciclo. :) COLD!!

    Saturday 11 - 27.5 km cycling outside (80 min)
    Sunday 12 - 26.2 km cycling outside (75 min)

    Subtotal:
July Cycling: 53.7 km in 155 min

Tuesday 14 - 40 min on the bicycle on the trainer indoors ... yay! But watching the review of the TDF helped.

    Subtotals:
July Cycling: 53.7 km in 155 min + 40 min cycling indoors

Wednesday 15 - 40 min on the bicycle on the trainer indoors
Thursday 16 - 40 min on the bicycle on the trainer indoors

Watching the extended highlights of the TDF.

    Subtotals:
July Cycling: 53.7 km in 155 min + 120 min cycling indoors

Saturday 18 -- 42.22 km with 773 metres of climbing, including one climb rated as a Category 4.

Cold!! By the time we got up into the hills, it was only about 7 or 8 degrees. Thank goodness I brought an extra fleece vest for the descent.

But it was good ride. I felt pretty good almost all the way up, but then started to run out of energy. We stopped at a little bakery, but my chocolate macaroon finger just didn't do it for me. It didn't give me the energy I hoped for. So the descending was all right, but the climbing right at the end was a bit of a struggle. I'm also experiencing a mystery back pain for some unknown reason.

Nevertheless, apparently we were faster this time than last, and we took a break this time!

The scenery on this route is beautiful ... forests, hills, and Mt Wellington topped with snow.

    Sunday 19 - 27.6 km ... flat ride today. :)

    Subtotals:
July Cycling: 123.5 km in 370 min + 120 min cycling indoors

Tuesday 21 - 40 min on bicycle on trainer in our basement
Wednesday 22 - 45 min on bicycle on trainer in our basement

Still watching the extended highlights of the TDF. Thank goodness for those highlights!!

    Subtotals:
July Cycling: 123.5 km in 370 min + 205 min cycling indoors

Thursday 23 - 45 min on bicycle on trainer in our basement. Still watching the extended highlights of the TDF. Will miss them when they're over!!

Sunday 26 - 6.5 km (30 min) in the snow and slush on my mtn bike. Coldest, snowy-est ride I've done in years!

    Subtotals:
July Cycling: 130 km in 405 min + 250 min cycling indoors

    7/04 - 50 miles @17.8mph
    7/06 - 16 miles @17.8mph
7/07 - 31 miles @16.5mph -- About half way into ride I rain into a WALL of rain. Could only see where I was going by following the white line on the side of the road (and thus almost rode into a downed tree!). Luckly rain slowed down after 10 min.
7/10 - 94 miles @15.8mph w/4,900' climbing. Felt great the first 40 miles (the climbing part) but I was going too fast so felt totally dead the last 30 miles (the downhill/flat part). Not too bad for getting up at 3:30am for work and putting in a full 8hr day by noon. ;)
7/12 - 62 miles @14.8mph w/3,300' climbing. Road my old bike to give it a test spin before putting it to use at RAGBRAI next week, and man is it ever SLOW!!! Averaged about 2mph slower then same effort would have been on my new(er) bike.
07/16 - 2 miles @12.6 - First ride ever in Pennsylvania (in a Walmart Parking lot)
07/17 - 4 miles -- 3 rides --- First rides ever in Ohio, Indiana and Illinois (all done in service plaza parking lots)
07/18 - 5 miles @8.6mph -- First ride ever in both Iowa and Nebraska - Finished 1,000 mile drive to Sioux City Iowa and start town for RAGBRAI 2015.
    07/19 - 77 miles @14.6 RAGBRAI Day 1
    07/20 - 102 miles @15.5 RAGBRAI Day 2 + extra 29 mile gravel loop
    07/21 - 102 miles @15.3 RAGBRAI Day 3 + Karras Loop
    07/22 - 63 miles @16.4 RAGBRAI Day 4
    07/23 - 72 miles @16.5 RAGBRAI Day 5 --- 20,300 cyclist in total rode this route today.
    07/24 - 64 miles @16.4 RAGBRAI Day 6
07/25 - 77 miles @19 mph RAGBRAI Day 7 -- Biked fast to get back to car early for 1k mile drive home.

    Total July miles:821
    July goal miles: 800 --- Reached 07/25

July goal #2: Put in a good showing for the MFP TdF bike challenge. ---- Did okay. Got 4th overall in both points jersey and total distance.

July goal #3: Have fun at RAGBRAI! ---- I sure did!

This looks like a great thread. Looks like a lot of you put up some really serious miles. My goal is to get an hour in each day during the week which for a fat guy like me is about 12 to 15 miles a day and around 240 for the month. I do ride to work but it's a short commute of only a mile from my house to the office. We have a great bike trail system here in Newark OH, so at lunch I go for a ride and then also at night. I have just recently gotten back in to biking and have worked back up to my hour a day. I'm doing it mainly for exercise but also to save on gas and insurance. We got rid of our second car so the bike is my work transportation so my wife can have the car during the day. I look forward to getting to know some of you.

Well, I haven't had as much success as I had hoped, but here are my numbers, thus far:

    7/2: 8.85 miles
    7/3: 22.95 miles
    7/4: 2.85 miles
    7/6: 21.9 miles
    7/7: 9.29 miles
    7/8: 21.55 miles
    7/9: 1.12 miles
    7/10: 21.55 miles
    7/12: 9.19 miles
    7/13: 20.61 miles
    7/14: 8.28 miles
    7/16: 9.34 miles
    7/22: 20.65 miles
    7/27: 19.04 miles
    7/28: 9.96 miles

215.87 miles left to make my goal... Not likely I'll make it this month, but lets see how close I can get!
