Sugars that are not from fruits and veggies and dairy - unnecessary and hold zero nutrition. Just extra calories. Bad for teeth. Okay every once in a great while but personally, I don't eat them every day.

Wait, so the simple sugar in fruit holds nutrition?

It fair to say eating a whole fruit is better than just drinking juice

Ya, I eat whole apples just fine but apple juice makes me sick. So I don't drink it.

Hopefully no one (and this is not directed at you, Bobby) will interpret this as me demonizing sugar - me avoiding things that cause me pain is not demonizing them. Am I demonizing the pot that has just come out of the oven by not touching it with my bare hands? Am I having a psychosomatic reaction to the hot pot? No, I have learned from experience and am acting appropriately.

Hopefully no one (again this is not directed at you, Bobby) will interpret this as me saying NO ONE should drink apple juice. If I meant "you should not drink apple juice," I'd say "you should not drink apple juice," not "I don't drink apple juice."

Some people just won't get it. I also avoid radishes because I think they're gross. Obviously I'm demonizing radishes.

i eat 70+ grams of sugar a day ..it is delicious, and I have no problem maintaining 12-15% body fat….

there is no reason to avoid it, unless one has a medical condition...

If you eat 12g of sugar from an apple it metabolizes slower and doesn't cause as much of a sugar spike, which effects me a lot. If I eat a donut I feel terrible. I get shaky, achy, and then very tired. If I eat an apple I still feel normal.

It's not backpedaling. I said from the beginning, I prefer sugar from whole foods.

Honestly I have no idea. I don't have the money to go to a doctor but I know I feel better when i stay away from sugar for the most part. I don't even really eat a lot of fruit.

So is a snickers with almonds better for me than a regular snickers 'cause fiber in almonds? I need to know next time I'm picking stuff out at the gas station.

    Ok …

if you eat table sugar and get your fiber from other sources then you will not have the insulin spike that you are referring to.

Also, protein spikes insulin so do you avoid that too????

I'm not saying the sugar is different. I'm saying that when you think of what you get from a piece of fruit vs a snickers bar, the sugar in the fruit is probably a better choice nutritionally speaking. Sugar can't be avoided but the package it comes in can you help metabolize it more slowly and can have less of an impact on the digestive system and your blood sugar.

the fact is they are both the same and there is no difference.

yes, they are not the same nutritionally, no one is making that argument so don't go there.

I'm saying that if I had to pick what would be the better option if I had to eat sugar - fruit or snickers - fruit would be better because at least with the sugar you're also receiving nutrition.

I'm also saying the sugar is not different, but its a much slower release of the sugar if you eat fruit which also makes it a better option for me so I don't feel like crap.
