When I hear "desert", I get a mental picture of El Lawrence crossing the Nefud to get to Aqaba. What I don't hear is...

...2.2 percent [of households] live more than a mile from a supermarket...

    or
...people living in low-income areas with limited access spend significantly more time (19.5 minutes) traveling to a grocery store than the national average (15 minutes).

A mile is nothing. An extra 4.5 minutes is nothing.

If you don't have a car or easy access to a car....a mile isn't nothing.

    Sorry.

If a 15 minute walk - only half of which even counts, because even driving you have to walk across the massive parking lots - if a 15 minute walk is the "reason" someone can't get decent food, that's not a problem, that's a choice.

    Dear Posters,

I wanted to offer a brief explanation for the locking of this thread. This discussion is welcome to continue in groups.

The forum guidelines include this item:

    15. Divisive Topics Are Better Suited For Groups, Not the Main Forums

Divisive topics and posts, particularly those that seek input from or are relevant only to a select group of users, are better placed within an appropriate Group rather than the Main Forums. For example, topics relevant to only one religion should not be placed on the main forums but rather within a group related to that religion.
