Felt really sluggish today, but my 5.5 mile run seemed to help. Going to do my last reasonably intense run/speedwork session, some swimming, and a lifting session tomorrow before some Friday rest in advance of my Saturday (sprint) triathlon.

    8/1 - 50 mile bike, 3 mile run
    8/2 - 6 mile run, 1 mile swim
    8/3 - 30 min lift
    8/4 - 12 mile run, 15 mile bike
    8/5 - 5.5 mile run, 11 mile bike

Total: 26.5 mile run, 76 mile bike, 1 mile swim, 1 lift
Goal: 140 mile run, 500 mile bike, 10 mile swim, 9 lift
Remaining: 113.5 mile run, 424 mile bike, 9 mile swim, 8 lift

Plans to swim & lift were thwarted by a dog bite from a nasty poodle at the end of my run today. Had to get a script for an oral antibiotic, but at least got in a ride tonight. Hoping to get in a light swim & lift tomorrow in advance of Saturday morning's sprint tri.

    8/1 - 50 mile bike, 3 mile run
    8/2 - 6 mile run, 1 mile swim
    8/3 - 30 min lift

    8/6 - 8 mile run (w. 8x800s at 6:22/mile pace), 14 mile bike

Total: 34.5 mile run, 90 mile bike, 1 mile swim, 1 lift
Goal: 140 mile run, 500 mile bike, 10 mile swim, 9 lift
Remaining: 105.5 mile run, 410 mile bike, 9 mile swim, 8 lift

So, my first tri is tomorrow. Its a late wave at 2:30pm, so figure i need to eat a decent but early breakfast, then a light but early lunch. Rumour in the company, is that as far as corporate team is concerned, its going to be between myself, Ben and Phil.
Ben has pulled out. Phil seems a bit nervous, just PM'd about the swim, asking how quick i swim, would it be around 19mins...
mind games - i told him 'my coach expects me to be out of the water in under 14m30'. Not a chance in hell!! More like 25mins. But i need him to over exert and burn out if i'm to reel in the gap caused by the swim. :D:D

    old age and treachery ;)

    5/8 - Cycle, 53km (commute to work/back)
    6/8 - Swim, 1km
    8/8 - Swim 750m, cycle 20km, run 5km

    Swim - 3.35/5km
    Cycle - 73/250km
    Run - 5/40km

1'42:03. Exited the water in 1453rd place (1780 starters). Finished 836th. Hit my top 50% objective (scraped through). Not a bad recovery!

Suffered terrible cramp in my calves in the swim and halfway through cycle. Transitions went well, huge transition area and long route through it!

Swim was actually a PB at 22'21, even though I was in so much pain!! Still, didn't give an inch, held my space. I expected to be behind at this point.

    T1, under 4 mins, 305th fastest (yay!)

Cycle I was a couple of mins shy of target at 42mins, partly due to coasting downhill so I could stretch out the cramps. Passed a lot of people running towards mount, through the ride, and running in from dismount.

    T2, 3 mins.

Run was crap - 30m exact. I had planned for 26.

Was aiming for 1'40. I'll take 1'42. Im sure I can do better, but in light of those calf cramps which were horrendous, I did ok!

It's now 2am and I think the caffeine based energy gels have just kicked in...

Turned in a solid performance at the Pittsburgh triathlon today. Unfortunately, although I earned a 2nd place medal for my age group, I had to leave early to drive to Virginia for a wedding and didn't get to collect my first piece of hardware.

Swim start was botched by the organizers, but was happy with my bike (19/244 on a $170 bike), run (21/244 @ 7:03/mile) and transitions (fastest T2, and T1+T2 overall). Highlight of the race was passing 4 $3000+ cervelo P3/5s at the end of a long 5 mile climb on my (upgraded) $170 Walmart road bike.

    600m swim + long run to T1 - 12:48 (64/244)
    Transition 1 (just remove wetsuit/put on shoes) - 0:48 - (12/244)
    20km bike (long climb then long decent) - 36:52 (19/244) 20.3mph
Transition 2 (rack bike, take off helmet, no shoe change) - 0:28 (1/244!)
    5k run (just one short 30' climb, otherwise flat) - 21:54 (21/244) @ 7:03/mile
Overall: 1:12:41, 19/244, 3rd age group/17 (won 2nd age group prize as age winner was an overall top 5)

    8/1 - 50 mile bike, 3 mile run
    8/2 - 6 mile run, 1 mile swim
    8/3 - 30 min lift
    8/4 - 12 mile run, 15 mile bike
    8/5 - 5.5 mile run, 11 mile bike
    8/6 - 8 mile run (w. 8x800s at 6:22/mile pace), 14 mile bike
    8/7 - 14 mile bike, 0.5 mile swim, 45 min lift
8/8 - 5 mile bike (to start), 0.4 mile swim, 12 mile bike, 3 mile run

Total: 38 mile run, 121 mile bike, 1.9 mile swim, 2 lift
Goal: 140 mile run, 500 mile bike, 10 mile swim, 9 lift
Remaining: 102 mile run, 379 mile bike, 8.1 mile swim, 7 lift

Lol! I'm finding it quite hard to understand the results page (or believe some of them).

    Summary - 1747 starters, 1753 finishers (??)

3rd place finisher has a 19min swim, 22 minute cycle, 21mins run. But is only showing a single cycle lap! (20km cycle, overall winner clocked 33min cycle).

He was apparently 10 minutes faster on the bike than anyone else in the top 10, but 5 mins slower on the swim?

Same story with the guy in 13th overall....

I honestly do not believe that they are doing 60kph. And both showing a single cycle lap.

Maybe next year I'll do a single lap too!

I honestly do not believe that they are doing 60kph. And both showing a single cycle lap.

Maybe next year I'll do a single lap too!

Usually for the sake of expediency race organizers post results first online, but would likely have knocked out the off results (via timing mat checks) prior to issuing awards at the podium.

Congrads on making it through your first! Ended up with a flat tire on my first sprint triathlon last year (same race I did this past weekend), but glad you see you managed to make up for your swim in the Transitions & Bike segments! Having gone from a bottom 50% result last year to a top 10% one this year on my second sprint tri, it is definitely feasible, so keep it up!

Crikey, top 10% in your second is amazing!!! Bloody well done!
Well, that's not going to happen for me, body has been too badly broken up over the years! But happy to make steady progress and beat myself :)
