@juliet3455 - congrats on your race! Awesome job finishing way up there!

I've been sick for the past few days so I haven't been able to run. I knew something was wrong during my last run so I cut it short. And I hardly get sick! Sigh. Hopefully it will pass quickly. Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Why are sports clothes like 3 times smaller then regular clothes sizes?
@monkeymintaka Because the designers live and sleep in Dark Rooms with No Windows so they assume all people doing athletic events are super thin. I am a pretty big boy and live in the bottom of a major River Valley so I am all ways Running, Hiking or Walking Uphill. As a Result I have Calves and Thighs like a weight lifter, a chest like a race horse and arms like a 14 year old long thin and out of proportion to the rest of my body ( Multiple Separated Shoulders so no weight lifting ) . Fitting clothes is a nightmare. But if all humanoids were the Same Same it would be a pretty boring place.

    9/1 Strength training and elliptical
    9/2 6.5 miles (6 at 11:29 and .5 at 15:00) on the treadmill
9/3 4.5 miles at 11:59 on the treadmill
9/4 3 miles at 11:00 on the treadmill and strength training
    9/5 Rest Day

    9/6 5 miles-nice trail run with 4 at 11:35(ish) and 1 walking
9/7 1.5 miles at 12:00 with my 10 year old.
9/8 1.5 miles super-slow walking on the treadmill on max incline plus strength training
9/9 7.75 miles on my local park trail at 12:33
9/10 3.25 walking the doggy for my rest day
9/11 3.00 at 11:30 on the treadmill and strength training
    9/12 Rest

    9/13 Rest
9/14 4.5 at 12:30 on my park trail.
9/15 3.25 at 10:46 on the treadmill and strength training
9/16 2.75 at 11:17 on the treadmill (short run, since I had to go to a meeting)
9/17 7.5 at 12:20 on the park trail
9/18 3.25 @ 11:25 on the treadmill, plus strength training
    9/19 Rest

    9/20 4.25 at 12:00 through the neighborhood
    9/21 3.25 at 11:32 on the treadmill
9/22 3.5 at 11:50 on the treadmill, plus strength training
9/23 "rest day" 5 miles dragging recalcitrant dog around the lake at Nana's pace of 2.5 mph for two hours. I'm counting it because I wore my running shoes, lol!
9/24 3.25 at 11:50 average--but really hilariously, I had my fastest outdoor mile for the first one at 10:42. Then my aunt called me and wanted to talk about *Christmas*. If I wasn't concerned about her health I wouldn't have answered. So anyway, that mile was slow. Really slow. Then I got back up to 11:01. :)
9/25 Rest day, due to nasty head cold :(
9/26 Race Day! Still sick, but determined. I did 6.25 miles at 12:49 average, which is not terrible for a really challenging (to me) trail run. My splits were 10:20, 10:54, 14:10, 14:05, 14:09, 13:33, and 11:31. You can probably tell which parts were on the road, lol.

    Goal: 75 miles

    Tipping back a celebratory IPA!

This morning was my first 5K in 3 months and I was fully expecting to set a new PR, which I did quite handily. My time improved from 30:13 -> 26:32 and my pace improved from 9:44 -> 8:24. It's great to see all that running has pay off! The paces may not match the time because my GPS measured my run at 3.16 miles.

My Garmin tells me that my average HR was 171 which kind of surprises me. Had I guessed while I was running I would have thought it was about 164 to 165. The HR for my previous PR was 169, but I felt a lot worse that day. I just have a stronger heart now I guess. I was also surprised by my splits. I felt like I started slowing down after the second mile, but my splits are 8:36, 8:22, 8:17 and the last tenth was 8:05.

This was a race put on by our church to benefit homeless teens in the area. It was the first annual and it brought in 235 people, so it was a good turnout even though it wasn't heavily advertised. I spent so much time gabbing with folks beforehand I almost forgot to warm up, but did get in a 1/2 mile jog and a final potty stop.

That first IPA is gone, time for one more before lunch.

Thanks! Now that the weather is cooler, it's nice to be knocking out all these PRs. Hope I can repeat it next week for the HM distance!

And congrats on your PR! All negative splits too! You're a champ!

@juliet3455 love the you might be a running addict list... All that sounds like normal stuff to me.. Might add something like check in 15+ times a day on what your running buddies are doing, ie @Stoshew71 MFP's monthly running challenge.. ;)

Everyone is just tearing it up out there! Nearing another month and so many have hit or are close to their goals. For me, one more month down towards learning how to be a "runner".

I really would have never made it this far without the love and support of this group... I can not thank you all enough.

I'm kinda excited - I found a group to run with! The main group meets on Saturday mornings at Dunkin Donuts, so I can get some miles in with a buddy or three, and then eat up the calories I burnt! There's enough folks that I can choose a pace and a distance to fit my needs. I did nearly 3 miles this morning without any walking, and managed a 6.43 with a just-under 11 minute average pace, which is pretty dang good for me! There's also some folks in the group that run most days/week, and they're gonna help me (I hope) get in some speed work, some tempo runs, and general run training that I've been lacking. Not to mention, having some in-person accountability to get my butt moving!

@ddmom0811 - Setting up zones for heart rate training can be a bit of a cluster as there are about about 15 different sets of recommendations using two common approaches (% max heart rate, and % of range between resting & max). Still, from my marathons I've figured out my lactic threshold HR (about 167), but I'm still having trouble figuring out easy ranges as the J. Daniels easy pace for my VO2max is about 2 min/mile faster than the 70% max HR number I've also seen on the topic. Further complicating things is that I do a bunch of my training in Florida mid-day in the summer, which uses up lots of extra HR effort cooling my body.

Did another 5 miles late tonight (as I did an intense bike session mid-day), along with 6 more miles yesterday, inching me closer to my monthly goal. I should hit the 150 mark with ease as I'm returning up north tomorrow and will get in a few 8-10 mile daily runs for the last 3 days of the month. Still, with some pretty intense bike & swim workouts in the mix this past month, I've been slacking on my speedwork, and won't try to rush in 3 sessions.

    9/1 - 5 easy miles
    9/2 - 6 miles total (1.5 run + 4.5 run)
    9/3 - 11 miles total (1.5 run + 4 run + 5.5 run)
    9/6 - 6 miles
    9/7 - 5.5 miles
    9/9 - 5 miles
    9/10 - 8 miles
    9/11 - 8 miles
    9/12 - 4 miles (7 x 1/3 mile repeats w. 2 minute recovery jog at 6 min/mile pace)
    9/13 - 12 miles
    9/14 - 8 miles
    9/16 - 9.5 miles
    9/17 - 7 miles
    9/18 - 5 miles
    9/20 - 4 miles
    9/21 - 4 miles (tempo run treadmill GPS watch test - 10, 8, 6, 10 pace)
    9/23 - 4 miles
    9/24 - 4 miles
    9/25 - 6 miles
    9/26 - 5 miles

Total: 127 miles, 2 speedwork session
Goal: 150 miles, 5 speedwork sessions
Remaining: 23 miles, 3 speedwork sessions

Perfect weather today! Mid-50s, slightly breezy, nice and sunny. Went back to the giant hills that killed me last week and rocked them: no more 10:30 miles uphill... knocked em out in 9:01 and 8:57 splits! Paced 8:35 overall with a final downhill mile at 7:16. Comfortable pace between 8:30-8:50 per mile, plus a new HM PR with my fast finish miles (1:52:07), so I'm thinking I'll definitely break 1:50 for my HM next weekend, and I have my sights set on a 1:45-1:48 when I do Baltimore in 3 weeks.

At least you don't have to add boobs to the mix :) But I was thinking after I posted that, at least now, I buy clothes to exercise in, where half a year a go I was just buying pajamas to watch TV and eat Doritos in!

Yay! Running with people is fun :) And it's totally motivating too, I never would have ran this much/this fast etc if I hadn't joined a running club this summer.

Did my first 5 mile race this morning and got my first race tshirt and swag bag. If I knew they gave away free stuff I would have started racing a lot sooner!
Wanted to finish in under 50 mins, and did it in 49:22 so I am happy with that! Also, I passed my goal today, never thought that would happen.

YES. I ran my first 5k race this round.

    25'19"
    Pace 8'09"
    Placed 5th in age group
    63rd over all.

Loved it. Ran once before three years ago w much more training. That was 24:29 and placed 3rd in age group and 62 N's over all.

    Thanks all for the support!
