Got in a slow run. And have nothing to do the rest of the day (oh sure I could clean my house but it'll just get dirty again).

That is exactly my philosophy about cleaning my house! Love it!

    11/1 4.71 miles
11/2 no run—elliptical for an hour though!
11/3 5.27 miles — lake path. here are a couple of pictures!
11/4 no run--elliptical for an hour.
11/5 4 miles--nice run, but my left calf decided to go crazy today for some reason! I did finish my run, although the last mile was painful, like a cramp, but not fully :(
11/7 7 miles--wonderful run, felt so comfortable and happy since I thought I won't be able to make the run
    11/8 no run--one-hour elliptical instead
    11/9 5.19 miles--cold, 28 degrees, but a great run!
    11/10 elliptical
11/11 rest day--trip out of town for five days that made running difficult
    11/12 4.71 -- trip somewhat made
    11/13 none
    11/14 none
    11/15 none
    11/16 5--back to town. Yes!
11/17 none. forced rest day bc of work!
    11/18 5.19 -- good run

@Virkati I live in Longmont and ran 4.5 miles in the wind this morning and it wasn't pleasant. I am pretty pleased with how well I did through it although I'm not sure what the mph of the wind then was though.

Wow, guess a good portion of the country is windy. I'm Oklahoma and winds we're horrible last night. There was a giant Elm tree (~50ft) down across the trail I run today. Was kinda cool having to climb up and over it though. I heard the winds were 90 but that seems extreme. 20 gusts today.

The wind broke two of our three flagpoles at work. I didn't run. If it doesn't die down by tonight, I'll hit the t-mill and get my time and mileage in.

ETA...clearly they were compromised long before today. Just realized what my post looked/sounded like and needed to add that in!!

Rest day for me today and hoping I will have time in my schedule for a short run on Thursday. Friday we head to San Diego for the HM on Saturday. Weather should be perfect for the race - 40's and 50's with a light breeze.

@kristinegift - I hope the weather for you marathon stays nice and dry!
@MamaMollyT - Hope your HM was a good one!
@orphia - great job running 2 weeks ahead in your C25k program and just continuing to go! Isn't it a great feeling to hit those milestones and still feel great!
@patrikc333 - do you use a foam roller on your IT bands? I understand it makes a big difference. I have never had ITBS but my friends who have swear by their foam rollers.
@ddmom0811 - I don't know, that sounds like an awful lot of extra work to take on teaching 3 classes at the university after teaching all day! The teaching part is the easy part though - it is all the prep and post work like grading that take so much time. Are the 3 classes at least on the same subject so you can reuse across them? I am amazed you would have time for running or biking at all!
@virkati - I don't think I would run in wind with gusts of 40 mph. I run here with sustained 18-20 mph winds with gusts into the 30's and it is pretty tough. I think a gust at 40 mph would knock me off my feet!
@skippygirlsmom - I hope you are feeling better!

I ran a very chilly 7km today; it was -18C with the windchill. I tried not to remind myself that last year there were weeks so cold that a -18 day was when it 'finally warmed up'. :'(

    Is it summer yet???

Does anyone else notice a difference in pace when running in the dark? I always am slower with the headlamp. I think I change my stride a bit because I am more focused on the area directly in front of me. I also think it alters my overall posture.

Heck yes. When I do tempo runs in the dark, I average 20-30 seconds per mile slower than if I do them in daylight. I'm way more cautious running in the dark, so my speed takes a serious beating. But it's worth it not to be tripping on cracks in the sidewalk or stepping in pot holes!

I missed tracking on here for a couple days, so I gotta catch up! Ugh--the month of november has been erratic at best. :( Hopefully the second half will be more regular!! :) We had a wind storm here for a couple days, and so I decided to brave the wind on the 17th, and it just killed me. It made me extra thankful for less wind on my run today. :)

Nov 8 - 6.0 in daylight, but too darn hot and humid.
    Nov 9 - rest day.

    Nov 16 - 4.3 miles
    Nov 17 - rest day.
Nov 18 - 5.05 miles - change in plans! Trainer cancelled on me, so I decided to try to run after work, which I never do, mainly because of the heat. It was great! Then I sat down and finished my grading.

    exercise.png

@shanaber - yes, it is not something I was planning on, but apparently another professor quit and they really needed me. Two classes are the same prep - but it's a new prep for me. Same subject but advanced level instead of the one I've taught for about 7 years. The other class I've taught for so long I don't need to prep much and grading is very fast. But this new prep is taking a lot of time! I'm really enjoying the material though (advanced programming in Java). The biking and running keeps me sane.

7 km run through the Jungle with the Wednesday Night Running Club. Actually a run along the Snow Covered River Bank Trails in the darkness. The white of the snow was shining with the glow from the street and house lights.
It was strangely amazing - so quiet except for the crunch of the shoes on the snow from the group.
Need to add a mitt to my left hand as it stayed cold for most of the run. -11C and I was a little over dressed as we had no wind.
3 layers top & bottom will have to eliminate 1 layer.

    11/01 – 4.6 Km – 4.6km – 135.4 Km
    11/03 – 5.6 Km – 10.2km – 129.8 Km
    11/04 – 6.0 Km – 16.2km – 123.8 Km
    11/06 –21.1 Km – 37.3km – 102.7 Km
    11/08 – 5.0 Km – 42.3km – 97.7 Km
    11/09 –10.0 Km – 52.3km – 87.7 Km
    11/15 –7.0 Km – 59.3km – 80.7 Km
    11/16 –8.0 Km – 67.3km – 72.7 Km
    11/18 –7.0 Km – 74.3km –65.7 Km – YTD – 7 + 446.4 = 453.4Km

Would you run in 41 degrees with wind gusts of 40 mph? I'm prepared for the 41, not as much for the wind.

Trying to decide if I'm going to try to make it happen at my lunch break as usual or chance it for later after work.

PRed at a Half Marathon over the weekend in the 50s with gusts of 45mph... so definitely a fan of those conditions! Just need to find a route that takes you downwind and have a friend (or public transit) take you back. Definitely a good day for tighter full compression leggings and less loose fitting long sleeve shirts though.

Just did 4 miles with the neighbor tonight. Still nice and humid, and recovering from Sunday, so postponed my planned speed workout and did that instead. I'll do the speedwork tomorrow then take a rest day Friday.

    11/1 - 4 miles
    11/2 - 4 miles
    11/3 - 9 miles
    11/4 - 6 miles
    11/6 - 2 miles
    11/8 - 6.2 miles

    11/10 - 11 miles
    11/11 - 5 miles
    11/12 - 11 miles
    11/14 - 3 miles
    11/15 - 15 miles (w. 1:32:46 LV half marathon)
    11/17 - 7 miles
    11/18 - 4 miles

    Total: 91 miles
    Target: 220 miles
    Remaining: 129 miles

@lporter229 I tend to shorten my stride to ensure that my foot strike is square under my center of mass. I figure a slow run is a safe run; that is anything to avoid a slip/fall/injury.
@aarar Now this I understand: "I tried not to remind myself that last year there were weeks so cold that a -18 day was when it 'finally warmed up" My coldest run last year was in Mid January -25C the good part is that it was a brilliant sunny day.

don't know what to say. woke up in pain, run 4km then leg was absolutely fine. I'm fed up with this, I rest it gets worse, I move it gets better, but if it's an inflammation I should rest - it's frustrating to have this pain constantly when it's on

anyway, another windy day, but my run was OK, average pace, no fatigue, felt in control. scared for tomorrow, but luckily I'm off so will sleep at least 6 hours before - before stopping last week I noticed that a part of the park where I run was closed, I hope it was reopened otherwise I'll need to change a bit route, and I'm not in the mood for that

deers start to be more friendly now, they don't run away, wondering if they recognize me (they prob think "who's this idiot that is waking us up?)

Without wanting to be all "I'm not a doctor I just play one on the internet" have you tried heat therapies on the affected area when at rest to see if it produces the same results? If so it would appear that the running helps promote blood flow to the injured area and clear lactic acid which alleviates the pain from the overworked muscles.

The problem which arises is that the activity may not be doing anything to make the injury better, in fact it may be making it worse, but this is masked by the temporary pain relief which occurs.

I think you must consider resting and / or seeing a sports physio / doctor to help pin down the cause and appropriate treatment.

I get it. I am bored out of my mind at the moment. Even though my foot is just about back to normal I will still leave it another few days. There will always be another day to train.
