As a matter of fact, today's 28 min. run was so brutal that it felt like I was running with those tiny conditioning parachutes that pro athletes use to give them extra resistance...only I was trying as hard as I could, lol. Aaaaaaaand I still sucked.
But it is still way better than sitting on the couch, or in front of the computer thinking about working out, right?
You defenitely didn't "suck", you went out there and ran! Some days it feels hard while on others its fun all the way, but you still did great going out there, that's awesome :)

@aarar Wow, -18C?! That's super chilly. Now the "below 0C" they predicted for this weekend here don't sounds so spectacular anymore.

@skippygirlsmom I feel with you - it's really aweful when you are stuck with a cough like that - it always seems to me like it takes forever to get better. Hope you'll be fine soon. Super-cool that Skip got a slot in in 5+10 together with you!

Yesterday evening I ran with my hubby. He impresses me. Yes, he's slow, but he doesn't regularly run. He decided he wants to do a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving with me, so he has been running to prepare. He can literally go from couch to 5K in a day. He pretty much does this anytime he wants to do a race...the two week training plan. I told him to imagine what he could do if he just stuck with it!

Ha-ha! My husband is the same way... Forget training, He just up and runs. We have a half coming up in March, he won't train at all. I've already started a training program, checked the course elevation, ordering clothes to train in the cold, and put plans in my training journal 4 months out.

Wait until their wives are faster than they are and maybe they'll start training. I'm about 7 minutes behind him on the 10k

Nice and easy but SUPER RAINY run today with my running group! It was a light rain all day until we stepped outside to start running and then it was a rainy, windy down pour! But way more fun to run in the torrential rain with friends than solo, if you ask me.

Swim Lessons tonight so no run. Tomorrow night Curling Club Friday night mixed league mixxer. So hopefully I will get out on Saturday (Long Run) and Sunday (Short Run). I need to take up one more sport/volunteer action as my Monday has nothing planned on a long term continuous basis.
@beachhouse758 - @shanaber said it perfectly. Especially the comment about " I ran one race and had so much fun that I have now run many ". That's exactly how I felt after my first race. There is something magical/addictive about coming around the corner into the home stretch and hearing your co-runners who have already finished screaming your name and cheering you to the line. Doesn't matter what your time / placement is just go out and have fun( and cheer on your fellow runners).
@skippygirlsmom Glad to hear that skip has a spot in the race, Cheers to the Race Director(s).
Hope your cough clears up. I usually get the dry cough that ends up causing me to strain the diaphragm muscles where they connect to the rib cage.
@kareF Glad to see you are able to get some low stress walks in and keeping such a positive attitude. Ultimately its just a small delay in getting to your goals.

So we will be in the Tampa area for Thanksgiving and we found a race in New Port Richey to run on Thanksgiving. I lost my mind and signed up for the 15K challenge. You run a 5K at 7:30 and the 10K at 8:45. Skip wanted to do both (5K for time and 10K for fun with me), but they only had 1 slot left in the 10K she so kindly offered to let me have it ha ha! I did email the race director begging for a slot for her so hopefully I can get one for her.

Hope Skip gets her slot - but you got this (5K, then 10K)! A less-fat but still-old man I know did that last weekend, and had a great time!

ha ha !! Thank you race director, Skip now has a slot in both races!

@skippygirlsmom - that is so awesome! you will do great especially having Skip by your side (or in front of you)!
@9voice9 - you are definitely less fat but you are NOT old!
@kareF - we are having summer like weather here too. it was in the mid 80s today. I personally am looking forward to it being cooler again!

Heading to San Diego tomorrow. No running just walking around the expo and hanging out with my husband. I convinced him to to come with me and keep hoping running will rub off on him too :) I don't think there is any chance but there is still hope!

LOL, you lost your mind. Hope Skip gets a spot! What's one more tiny runner?
I'm doing a bike ride with some people from my group on Thanksgiving morning - around 50 miles I think. Then I might 1 run mile too! First Thanksgiving I haven't cooked in about 25 years. My son and his fiance are hosting!

@ddmom0811 I figured if I run both just to run and don't worry about time and enjoy it I'll be okay. Skip said you can always wimp out at the last minute! I just want the challenge mug. I'm not sure how long I'll be in FL, if we hang around I'll let you know. Thought about checking if you were running, but even if we both drove half way it would be a way early day to get a race in between. I have to watch where I post stuff because my mom doesn't know we are coming down for the week. We want to surprise her. [/quote]

What a nice surprise! Enjoy! Yes, let me know if you all come to Orlando!

Don't worry...you will get him for sure. I am about 7 minutes faster than my husband in the 5K (told you he was slow), but I can only attribute that to running infinitely more miles than he does!

It'll be really hard to get to my goal this month too many sick days, but that's okay I'll just keep moving forward.
@elise4270 and @lporter229 my boyfriend is retired military and of course ran many miles during 22 years of service. He won't run for months and then in 3 days he'll be doing 2 miles at a 9:45 pace, I want to just smack the crap out of him. I never say anything I just smile when he runs with me and heads home at 3 or 4 miles and I run 10. ha ha! Though I do tend to kick his butt in a race.

@ddmom0811 I wouldn't dare come to Orlando without letting you know! If not this trip definitely the next one.

@juliet3455 and @shanaber I'm really glad Skip is able to do both. She is nervous about the 10K after the 5K, her long run is about 10 miles. I told her you'll have about 45 mins to rest inbetween and I plan to enjoy the 10K we'll even take your phone to take pictures. So she's excited about it now. For someone who practices doing 6 miles of hills with the Varsity boys she needs to get some confidence, which is exactly what her coach said. She made the indoor track team, the new coach told her not to even come to tryouts to relax for 2 weeks LOL I guess his idea of relax and ours isn't the same.

I know @kristinegift has a marathon this week (GO GIRL!!!) who else is racing?

I’ve been SO crappy about exercise/running for awhile so this is the reset month. I’m setting
the bar a bit lower..want to get in 2 miles a day so I’ll go for 60 but I really want to exceed that.
    11/01: No run
11/02: Didn’t do any yesterday but I got in a respectable 3.2 today.
    11/03: No run
    11/04: No run
11/05: Not a lot of time this morning but I did get in 2.9.
    11/06: No run
    11/07: No run
    11/08: No run
    11/09: No run
    11/10: No run
    11/11: No run
    11/12: No run
    11/13: No run
11/14: 3.2 miles this morning. The start of getting consistent with this again I hope
11/15: No running, busy busy day
11/16: 3 miles in first frost of the year. Fast pace (for me), 10:20/mile. 
11/17: 3 miles (saw a doe and her fawn!)
    11/18: Rest day
    11/19: No run 
    11/20: 3.42 miles at a good pace (10:20s). Knocking on the door of a 10 minute mile…

I'm going to really need to push it to hit goal. 1/3 of the way there almost...looking to get some long runs in on weekends...

    11/1 - rest day / Halloween Hangover
    11/2 - 5.25 miles, 55° at 5:30 a.m. in Iowa! Nuts, but I love it!
11/3 - 4 miles on indoor track followed by weights / abs. After running mostly outside for six months, you can run pretty fast on a flat, indoor surface.
11/4 - 5.1 miles, again about 55° at 5:00 a.m. Getting spoiled by the weather!
11/5 - woke up with some major heel pain...a touch of plantar fasciitis perhaps. Decided to take my rest day early and try again tomorrow.
11/6 - 4 miles on indoor track + weights / abs. Heel feeling better, but not completely pain free.
    11/7 - 6 miles on a gorgeous morning!
11/8 - 4 miles on another gorgeous day! Tried to get my daughter to come with, but she just wanted to walk...so I did that first.
11/9 - 4 miles on indoor track, followed by lots of stretching
    11/10 - Rest Day.
11/11 - 4 miles on indoor track, then weights and abs.
11/12 - 5.1 miles on treadmill (Trek class)...always seems to be the most difficult run of the week.
11/13 - Unplanned rest day due to catastrophic appliance failure in my home :/
11/14 - 6.2 chilly but lovely miles in DSM...running out of these kinds of days I am afraid.
11/15 - 4.7 beautiful miles around my neighborhood...lots of stinky female gingko trees
    11/16 - planned rest day
11/17 - 4 miles on indoor track, with weights and abs after (soggy, rainy day here...definitely November)
11/18 - 5 miles before it started dumping cold rain again. Not sure why, but this was a GREAT run! Felt good, relaxed, enjoyed the damp, windy and warm-for-November weather. Runs like this are super!
11/19 - 5 miles on treadmill (Trek class)...lots of speed work
11/20 - 0. It appears I caught a cold from @skippygirlsmom ;) Decided to take it easy to make sure I have the energy to deal with the 5-10" of snow coming our way this afternoon.

To avoid cracks in sidewalks I run in the street as much as possible.
I utilize side roads that are not very busy 5:30-6:00 AM.
Our group designs routes the same way. My Thursday group runs through Research Park, so most of the routes are designed through all of the corporate parking lots to avoid traffic on the street.

But sidwalks are dangerous to runners. So much we run in the street next to traffic. LOL

Not to discount the tongue-in-cheek humor @Stoshew71 is bringing, but please be aware of the relevant laws in your area about pedestrians/runners. In Georgia (and prob most locales), you run AGAINST traffic, and on the sidewalk if available, else on the shoulder if available, and only as a last resort, on the roadway. And remember - as a runner, you can stop more easily, and step onto the sidewalk/grass, than the driver (as rude and inconsiderate and unthinking as they may be). You're not a shark....

Just 8 miles yesterday split between two runs with friends. Pretty tired as the rest of my triathlon training is getting the best of me, but have guests coming in today/tonight which will cut back on some of my non-running activities.

    11/1 - 4 miles
    11/2 - 4 miles
    11/3 - 9 miles
    11/4 - 6 miles
    11/6 - 2 miles
    11/8 - 6.2 miles
    11/9 - 4 miles
    11/10 - 11 miles
    11/11 - 5 miles
    11/12 - 11 miles
    11/14 - 3 miles
    11/15 - 15 miles (w. 1:32:46 LV half marathon)
    11/17 - 7 miles
    11/18 - 4 miles
    11/19 - 8 miles

    Total: 99 miles
    Target: 220 miles
    Remaining: 121 miles

Nifty car seat cover and changing towel. This seems like a great idea- if i had Oprah's money, I'd buy you all one. But I don't, so I'll just buy me one and think of y'all.

@Elise4270 - Ha! I wish the surfers at the dog beach all had these!
@kristinegift - Have a fantastic race this weekend! You know you are SO ready for it!!
@skippygirlsmom - Can't believe that someone would cheat that way for years! Wow!!

I have the USA Invitational HM tomorrow! So excited and nervous as it is my first qualifying event with milestone cutoffs throughout the course (eek!). My husband asked and I wonder now too, why I signed up for this race!!

I hope everyone racing this weekend has a great time!

I saw this on FB and thought it was so appropriate for you all here!

Looks cool - gives the Febreze something to latch onto so SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED doesn't wrinkle her little nose in smelly annoyance when she gets in the car.

That sounds pretty intense - I'm sure they'd kick me out after a mile or so, but YOU GO GRRRL!

@karllundy sorry you aren't feeling well, I'll keep my germs to myself in the future
@9voice9 when I'm running in the neighborhood sometimes I don't go against the traffic because that is where most is. For example in 2 places if I'm against traffic that is the side of the road everyone is driving to get out of the hood so I run on the other side because there is no "with traffic". "She who must be obeyed" LOL love it
@elise4270 I love that towel how cool
    @pmm5pla welcome back!
@shanaber love the meme!! So true.

    @skippygirlsmom -That is awesome!
@Elise4270 -I NEED that towel! I always try and shove mine up and under the head rest and it always slides down and my seat ends up with a salty white film all over it!

Ya me too. Then give up and just sit on it after I walk around cooling off so I don't leave salt on the seats.

I got 2. My husband sweats. I'm always grossed out by the salt-sweat he leaves on my window with his arm. Ugh, he's just soaked after a run.

There is 10% off if you share your email with them. I got 2 for $71, free shipping. Little steep, but cheaper than car seats and are multipurpose, easy to wash.

    @skippygirlsmom love the bear!
@shanaber good luck on that HM! I know you can do it!
@kristinegift good luck on the full!

Anyone else? GOOD LUCK! Think of pie and that awesome finisher's medal at the end.
