My pet-peeve about scheduling doctor appointments: “I missed work yesterday because I have a cold, and I’m not going to work today, so I need a doctor’s excuse”. Me: “do you have fever or chills or any other symptoms?” “no, it’s just a cold”. Really, then suck it up and go to work ! ! ! So now the schedule is full, and if someone calls who is REALLY sick or injured, they have to wait for a different day, or go somewhere else, or have a long time waiting in our rooms because the doctor will be double-booked, which isn’t fair to anyone. Thanks, )
And then the flip side to this: my pet peeve is places that won't let you miss a couple of days for a cold without a doctor's excuse. So, instead of staying home and getting the rest that you need, you suck it up and go to work to give all your co-workers your germs.

WalkinChik & other newbies: Welcome to a great group!
Penny: I had Tinker Toys, too. I'd forgotten about them. What a nice memory. Thanks! My recommendations for cold remedies are sleep and Vitamin C. :flowerforyou:
Heather: Pain can surely suck the joy out of life. I hope you feel better soon. :flowerforyou:
Sylvia: Hugs. :flowerforyou:
Alison: Hugs to you, too. :flowerforyou:
A painter is supposed to come today to paint the trim surrounding our new windows. I hope he actually shows up. I don't have a lot of confidence in him because he is a total stranger and has not worked for us before. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Hi everyone. Just checking in. 30 minute swim done today (and I was really working hard at it too). Food logged and planned.
Any recommendations on scale? Mine drives me nuts...it keeps fluctuating and if step on it 3 times I get 3 different numbers.
Pascale Welcome to the board. I'm pretty new here also but have already found some good advice and inspiration.
Probably won't check in tonight as we are going to a night playoff soccer game for my son.
Have a good rest of the day

Rori - sending good thoughts to you and DH
Jenna – that was nice of DH, but seems it is time to chat with him about your new food life style
Pascale – welcome!
Penny – my cold remedy is sleep (lots) extra fluids, and extra vit. C

Alison – on top of everything Homer tangled with a snunk?!!! Yuck!
Janetr – Mom Llamas are prego for 11 months and she has had 4 in 3 years…. That math doesn’t work.
November Goals -

Another beautiful day in New England.
Hope all of you have as nice a day as I am enjoying.
Chris in MA0 -
Nearly all packed. My makeup bag washed and drying! Street view checked (not been to my friend's apartment before- looks a bit of a warren) and hotel info logged. Might check in tomorrow morning.
Feel a bit better now. One problem I have is that I am conflicted about this old friend. Hence I am staying in a hotel, not in her super expensive apartment. The finances are dicey (husband tax exile) and she is troubled to say the least. Never mind. I will have the company of my other friends and the comfort of my own space.
I have decided to wear flattish ankle boots with my Little Black Dress. And leggings and socks. And a bomber jacket. Bling necklace. I think I will be right on trend - for an 18 year old!
All set.
Welcome Pascale!

I managed two hours of gardening this morning in spite of still being in pain from Halloween. Cleaned up most of my hell strip. There were still some blooms on the two asters (magenta) so I left them, but got the irises, day lilies, peonies, and others cut down and pulled up about a bushel of vinca (it is a ground cover but should never be planted among other plants since it crawls all through them). Need to give my hips and lower spine a break so headed to bed to read now.0

Just wanted to report that I went for a brief walk and it is 70 degrees and Not One Single Cloud--highly unusual for where I live during November. If only I did not have to be at work...
Hugs for the people with medical woes.
Welcome Pascale!

OK, the pots are out of the kiln and I'm pretty happy with the results. Here are the FINAL pictures. (Just a few of the 45 total bowls.)
I'm driving three hours each way tomorrow to deliver them. It'll be nice. I enjoy a little drive.0 -
Kimses2,
Swimming is awesome for your body! I did it off and on, should be doing it now but walking instead, and the results are great over time. I bought a new lap swimsuit and new goggles. I need to get that going!
As far as the scale, I would take the lower of the three attempts!
I always weigh in the morning with just my underwear before I eat my breakfast or have coffee. That way, it provides me with more accuracy.

Lovely!!!!! Love all, so talented! Gayle Minneapolis0

Jolly whippet,
Cool bowls; you are talented!

That was for Molly this thing autocorrects when you're not looking!0

We just ordered appetite plates for my daughter's birthday. Do you do those also? Appetizer/dessert plates are useful items.
Susan0 -
Sylvia, love the decals you added to your bowls. Those give them such a nice look.
OK gardeners, I have a question. This summer I threw out wild flower seeds along our chain link fence and enjoyed seeing the different blooms. Will they come back next summer?
Went in for my every 6 months blood work and doc visit this AM. I was surprised to learn that it would be OK to drink black coffee before the fasting blood test. In the past, I was even afraid to drink water. Hope the results are all good. The main worry for me is perhaps a possibilty of future diabetes. My dad died from this and was very ill for the last few years of his life.
Good thoughts for all of you who are facing the problems that life brings.

Going to be another beautiful day in the 70's. Sure different weather for November. Yesterday was our 31st anniversary and we spent the day with our oldest daughter geocashing. It was fun and relaxing.
Miriam--Children all dressed up were so cute.
Mary--Your BD trip sounds like so much fun. DH sounds like a keeper.
DeeDee- Have missed you. I agree I do not like this time change, it gets dark so fast and early. Holidays are coming fast and I can not get into any kind of mood to do much.
sunday evening we went to see the movie The War Room. All I can say is it is a very moving movie with a good message. Loved it. I do think by the end there was not a dry eye in the place.
Mindy--HUGS!!
Jenna & Z in NY & Susan D from Kansas & Ann--Welcome, glad to have you join us. This works and best advice I have is to take it One day at a time. I love how are our group grows and the support we can give each other.
Margaret--Glad you talked to the doctor and got things worked out. One thing I have learned is we have to look out for ourselves concerning our health.
Heather--Great news on the sale of your rental. Sending prayers that all goes without any delays or problems.
Terri--Congrates on your new TV. I love that price range also.
Lisa--I am looking forward to the new book as I enjoyed that last one a lot.
Becca--I like the way you think.
Pip--WOW! Kirby did great. Thanks for sharing.
Well ladies I am at the end of page 6 and about out of time for today. But will be back tomorrow bright and early. I work 6-noon tomorrow. Not sure the reason behind splitting shifts. Want to get some cleaning done in my office and get bills figured out for the month. I put it off long as I can, but once it is done I feel so much better. Remembering you all in my prayers.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND-NE
November Goals
1. Weigh less at the end of month then at begining.
2. Log every bite.
3. Stress less --Pray more
4. Write down something each day I am Thankful for. Today I am Thankful for my family.

Allison – so sorry about your pity party. I hope you quickly find some relief, or release, or whatever it is that will help you recharge. You Deserve It ! ! !
DrKaitebug – I agree with that, too. Why do businesses (or bosses) not trust that a person is sick, except that someone already proved untrust-able, so now everyone after that is not trusted. And let’s take it even farther. They come in here knowing they have all the symptoms of influenza or something, and throw a big hissy-fit about wearing a mask. “you are obviously sick, and I will see 12 more people like you today, which means I am exposed to every single mutation out there, and I have to try to fight it all.” One person last year said “I’ve been working with this for 5 days now and none of my co-workers have caught it yet. So you only want me to wear this to protect you?”
Katla – fingers crossed for your painter.
Heather – sounds like you will be stylin’ ! Enjoy ! ! !
Sylvia – L O V E all the bowls. Very creative and personal.
Carol (Peach) – unless a person has serious kidney issues, my speech is: “fasting labs means 12 hours nothing to eat or drink except water. We do encourage plenty of water, because we want your veins nice and plump. If you have to drink coffee that is okay, but no cream, sugar, or fake sugar.” We are a very small clinic, without any phlebotomists or lab techs; we have an MA and an X-ray tech who was cross-trained on the job.
Our temps made it to 68 today, and the sun is shining brightly on the back of my head. I used the handbike for 10 minutes today during my lunch break, and I'm getting up and walking around whenever I remember. I'm still mourning hte passing of my espresso machine, and already worrying about what I will do tomorrow morning. Hopefully I can find a youtube video of my other machine, and get it to work. Fingers crossed please.
Hugs for Everyone ! ! ! Terri (Milwaukee)0 -
Kim - you wrote "Janetr – Mom Llamas are prego for 11 months and she has had 4 in 3 years…. That math doesn’t work"
She was pregnant for the 11 months PRIOR to giving birth in December 2012 . Does that make sense?

DH and I went to kidney specialist today. News could have been better. If he goes the surgery route he will need more extensive surgery than he expected. It is hard to make a decision without knowing what kind of cancer he has.
So more doctor visits and DH has big decisions ahead.

Hi Everybody,
Another good day today! I've been doing the FITBIT goal challenges and it has really kept me accountable for getting my excersize. The dogs are loving it and I've already lost a couple pounds this week despite some heavy salt use. The asparagus was sooooo good tonight I'm roasting organic red peppers w organic olive oil and some spice..need to see about going organic there too..and using them in an egg omelet from fresh from my chickens eggs and a couple baby bell cheeses. I love those little things. My fat will be high for the day but that's okay once in a while. I don't think I officially posted my Nov goals so here it goes..
1. Lose six pounds
2. Fill out YMCA financial aid forms and submit
3. Try the yoga dvd at least once
4. Make a chart denoting three sessions per week of four single set core strength excersizes this week and do them the last three weeks
5. Take 5000 steps per day
6. Walk dogs three times a week..use chart above for accountability
7. Continue to keep track of all spending
8. Fill out and submit oil heat assistance form
9. Post ten items on eBay each weekend
10. Make and keep eye Drs appt and get new glasses
Heather I'm sorry you are down and your hip hurts have you decided to see a dr about it? Your outfit sounds cute.
Jenna welcome! My daughter was my sabotage r fo a long time. She brought me food from her work as a way of showing me love and I did love the food but also felt compelled to eat it to show my appreciation. It took many many repeats of thanks but no thanks to her for her to get it..now we spend time once a week taking dogs for a walk and visiting instead.
Alison...wow! It seems like way too much to do both your FIL and your SIL's mom. It's hard when you want to help someone and they really need the help, but I agree w some of the other gals..put your airmask on first! All that care for others and work too! I would be abysmal and kind of angry. Hope you put yourself first...we all want you too.
Rori I'm sending well wishes for your husband
DJ. I'm glad your giving your knee a break even if your weight pops up a bit from lack of excersize in the long run it could help your knee not to become a chronic problem...TMI coming...I find when I cut back on excersize I get full of poop..two pounds maybe? Should resolve with resuming dancing I think.. Sorry girls
Sylvia hope you can catch some sees!
Pip good job at sticking w the sling
Karen I admit to cooking my first bird with the bag and innards intact..yup.
Pascale ...welcome! You can do this!
Susan good job on sticking to your plan. How nice your son? Came to visit.
Okay I have the rest of the night off. Time to tackle some kitchen work, laundry and maybe a chart or form...ending up by scaring myself silly by watching the first season of the walking dead for the first time...better get the laundry started first as it is in the cellar and last time I was too creeped out after watching episode one to turn it over! I'm such a chicken!
Have a good night everyone!

Sylvia This was a great programme. They really put the contestants through their paces on the basics. Your bowls are way better than most of what was produced.
Penny So pleased that it was the Garmin at fault and not your heart!
Kimses I have one of those very old mechanical scales which fluctuates up and down. I usually take the lowest reading. I have been hovering between 166 and 168 for weeks now. I don't log minor upward fluctuations. I just wish it would move down again
Margaret I sure hope they get your DH's treatment sorted out soon. Sorry it hasn't been straightforward.
Sylvia Love the decals.
Chris Cute dog and wonderful scenery.0 -

WalkinChik wrote: »Hi everyone I'm Pascale, I live in MD I'm new to MFP and just found this group. I'm 51 single mother who is now making the most of being an empty nester since September. I have weighed as much as 385lbs and have been down to to 205lbs. I recommitted myself to my journey 2 1/2 weeks ago at 281.2 and today I'm at 277.9 lb.
I would love the support
Welcome friend! This is a great group of ladies, you can vent, whine, scream, and cry-type and guess what, no judging just total acceptance. They have been my lifeline that is for sure. I started in May at about 258 and now I am around 233.6, but I am traveling. Want to get to Onederland so bad I can TASTE it :-) The most important thing I concentrate on is "Losing weight isn't my key to happiness, happiness is my key to losing weight". Another phrase that runs thru my brain is "The most important ingredient in food preparation is my MOOD". So I am a happy chopper, and hug a lot throughout the day. To keep me sane, and to keep me positive. Another tool I have been using is to mentally think I have had a gastric bypass in my brain. Silly but I was watching those "600 lb Woman" shows and thought, "If I just mentally think I have had it, then eat accordingly then I will have no choice but to lose right? I do pay attention to how my body is feeling, so I try not to ever restrict myself. Just treat my body like a temple.... Fuel it with great stuff not crap. Well welcome again!

Love you all, ladies - you have helped me so much.
Rori, Margaret, Joyce and all the others who have worries - big hugs to you. (((Hugs)))
Less pain tonight. It roves about. Just a bit uncomfortable right now. Will talk to my doctor friends tomorrow. At least my mood has lifted.
Still no word about the b****y rental.
I am up late and will read something undemanding for a while.
Love Heather UK0 -
Vicki- I have been doing the MEDIUM crossword puzzles in my books, and the HARD sudoku puzzles in my other books...my brain is running at an intellectually high phase presently.....I would say something profound but all I see is numbers and words in my thoughts.......
Today I weighed in at 233.6 I am not even going to see what my last weigh-in was at TOPS. I think I have gained a lb or so.
Today was alot of mental junk from the past coming up and biting my husband and I. Past behaviors and all. I am mentally drained. The fact that these are events from 5-6 yrs ago, and my stories change, he thinks I am just lying. I truly am not trying to lie, its just that the stories are emotionally stressful, and seem to all be bunched together. My husband is factual, so he doesn't understand. We have agreed that the past stay in the past, and we move on from the now.
Today I get to call one of you!! Need to practice my high notes!!
