Michele - Alcohol surveys are sort of like a "sting operation" to test if retailers are checking ID the way they are supposed to. Thanks for asking about Oliver! He had what equates to a kitty tummy bug and will go home today after about 36 hours with the vet.

Pip - Great news that Kirby is progressing so quickly!

    Welcome newbies!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes! I did do kettle bell swings for 20 minutes. I plan on just painting the last coat on the trim so that my DH can put that up tonight. I will wait to paint the kitchen and hallway and entryway until tomorrow. I still have a nagging Headache in the back of my neck. And my front sinuses hurt as well. I just realized that I did not open any windows yesterday.

Katla - score on the boots for your grandkids! They are going to love those!

    DJ - (((hugs)))

Heather - yippee! I am so glad that you got your money and can move on!

Janetr - I just sent a message to my DD in Colorado saying that she has more snow than we do! Thanks for the picture!

:) I am counting my blessings today and all of you are included. Among the things on my list are the right clothes for walking in the rain and my exercise bike that I rode while watching the DVR recording of DWTS.

Fancy - I sure hope you're feeling better very soon. I agree it's a good idea to rest and stay away from the paint.

So I joined a gym 2 weeks ago and so far its going okay. I decided to give weight (lifting) machines a try since I seem to have plateaued using 10k steps, and honestly I just can't give up more food calories. I love my food hahahah :D The goal is - 10k steps 2 to 3 day,s and the gym 2 days a week and hopefully this will get the evil scale moving again. The young staff at the place have been quite nice to this old lady B) I asked to used the hydro massage and infrared Sauna one time each. The sauna felt soooooo wonderful o:)

wishing you all love and peace in your day my friends.

    Happy Tuesday ! ! !

DJ - I used to do the same thing with my jewelry when I travel. I will wear a nice necklace and/or bracelet, but not a ring, unless I know there is a safe in our room, and even then I prefer to travel wearing fake. Hugs for Max.

Joyce – rofl about sucking in your tummy to plump your caboose.

Sharon – some nights Brussel sprouts are my main course. Bring on the weird – I’m not worried. Yum ! ! ! // Hugs for your DD and friend and all involved.

Yesterday at work was so toxic I did everything in my power to stay invisible. That included not logging or posting except during lunch. So I’m very far behind on reading, and I missed talking with all of you. Today I’m going to jump in on the final page, and try to work backwards with reading, so sorry if you asked me something and I didn’t reply. I really need to keep my job right now.

DH got some good news yesterday. In 3 weeks he lost 9.8 pounds and dropped his A1C from 7.1 to 6.7 and he finally agreed to take Metformin, so he started that last night already. I only learned a few things at the diabetic cooking class, but it definitely strengthen my belief in blood sugar management, so that was good. Plus the 2 dieticians that presented the class were entertaining and knowledgeable, and we sampled everything they cooked, so I didn’t need to make supper.

I am sad to report that the fitness tracker I bought is a Samsung, and not compatible with my iPhone. So if my DD has a Samsung phone I will attempt to swap with her. Otherwise, my co-worker will buy it, or I’ll just see what kind of phone I get free with my next upgrade, and not have a tracker for a little longer. I’m not really sure what prompted me to make the purchase, except that is was advertised as brand new in box only $10.

Well today ended up being almost as toxic as yesterday at work, so I’m just going to copy/paste and send this, and hopefully can make time to spend with all of you later this afternoon.

    Hugs for Everyone ! ! !

DJ - A Durable Power of Attorney is for someone (usually a husband or adult child) to be able to make 'medical decisions' only. Such as making sure you get the medical care if you are unable to sign for or say yes or no to medical procedures. It is like a Living Will (in a way) which lets the MDs know, at what point the family has decided to take someone off life support and whether or not if they live past that if they will be hydrated and fed through a nose tube; or just hydrated, or just fed, or neither, and things like that; but the Durable Power of Attorney is for medical needs and it also is something that stops when the person that has made it dies or has rescinded it. Making sure that any medical facility has the information to file against insurance. There are actually 4 documents that everybody should have: Last Will and Testament, Power of Attorney (or in some cases a Limited Power of Attorney), Living Will, and Durable Power of Attorney. The worst thing one can do is 'not' to have a Will (especially if they own something, even 'if' it is just a car). Whoever gets appointed as the Administrator of the Estate would have to post it in the local legal ads (local n"ewspaper if it comes out weekly) and advertise that it is 'for sale' so that someone who might have an interest in the car could come forth and claim it; otherwise papers would issue to the person wanting it and the name would be legally changed on it with the State.

In most states an attorney is the ONLY person that can legally prepare a POA for someone to sign giving away their power to another. In most states it is illegal for a person to prepare a POA for someone to sign that will give their power to that person. For example: Florida; but, people do it all the time - our daughter did it to her grandmother and took everything of value out of the estate before her Daddy and uncle (the children) could do anything about it. But, that's "OK"; Karma is a B**** and one day she will be introduced to Karma. She took more than $100.000 from her during the time she was in an Assisted Living Facility and it did not go to pay the ALF. We could have taken her to court over it; but, she had already spent it when they realized she was stalling them. I hope she is able to sleep at night. Husband specifically wrote her out of his Will and she will get a copy of the Probate and a crisp $1 bill with a note 'not to spend it all in one place'.

Nothing brings out the worse in people than for someone to die and no Will and people claiming that they were supposed to get this or that; or family members get into a real squabble because "Auntie" thought she should get a family item. We only have 2 children and we have left them our estate 'share-and-share-alike' so they can agree about the division or they can become enemies. One reason we are sitting down with them to spell out our intent on what we want to have done with it. It's pretty basic; but, they are grown and they both need to decide whether they can agree on the division ... otherwise, they can put it all 'up for sale' and divide the money. Pretty clear cut on that. We purchased 2 tracts of land with the intent that one some would get one tract and the other would get the other tract. DOS purchased 3 acres out of one of the tracts; so he has basically already he's laid claim to that tract and then our tract has a house built on it. After paying off whatever they can with the life insurance they will receive - they can divide the rest of it 50/50. They have some very valid questions and we will try to make the answers clear to both of them at the same time.

    Hi Ladies,
Had a nice long chat w my son in Florida since noon and am STILL in my PJs! Jeez any minute now a church lady will surely show up and catch me. Gotta get a move on as I have a bunch of chores and paperwork to catch up on. I forget who was mentioning the life sucking power of electronics but I am surely addicted. I have my tv on most of the time admittedly replaying recorded favorites and frequently on my iPad simultaneously. I recognize it as a major problem in my lifestyle but haven't got the courage yet to let go of them. Every day I make myself turn them off to get a minimum done around but it always leaves so much undone before I am drawn back to the anesthetic habit. I know I would feel better about myself and my homes condition if I let go of this debilitating habit or at least limited myself. You r all such powers of example I have been ashamed to admit this. I do feel better about working three or four days a week and feel quite accomplished at breaking away for that purpose anyway. A few close friends and sisters have wondered if I was agoraphobic occasionally but I don't think that's the issue. I do like getting out. I am not one for a party but love one to one socializing or small groups. I do find it hard to leave the house Ina sense though. This developed while being simultaneously the caregiver for two children both with illnesses/issues and my catastrophically I'll parents. I rarely left the house for over ten years..not even for the drs or dentist..in fact refused to leave my mother's side until she was taken away by ambulance for an appendix attack..I followed and got admitted to the ER for passing out while with her BC my gall bladder ruptured! She and I were operated on in adjacent ORS. The same am by the same surgeon! How weird is that!? My DSIL and best friend Becky had to move in for a week to care for us.
Anyway working has been a big step for me and VERY healthy to boot. I love it and the extra money has been making me able to keep up w the bills if not catch up on a couple of overdues.

Okay I don't know how I got off on that tangent but my real reasons for posting were.

    A. I've got CRS and while I k Rori that your husband has had serious melanoma? Surgery and is doing well? I can't remember that you were traveling?

Meanwhile after reading posts for which I am grateful for...

Pip amazing story thanks for sharing.

DJ still sad for you about Max but glad to be reminded that you still have a pup to suck up to.

Fanncy please be careful to vent! I hope you feel better.

Chris and Alison where have you/are you staying on the Cape? I live about thirty minutes north of the Sagamore bridge and have stayed down at a number of places..just curious as to which were your favorites!

Sylvia I wholeheartedly believe in Mirriams take. You and she are blessings to those GKS.

Heather..a degree in political philosophy? Holy C**p! I never get into political discussions as I don't keep up on it. I had a long time ago but got discouraged by repeated outcomes that baffled me..the only attitude I have currently is Thank God for the people willing to try these careers as no way in Hades would I ever want to be put under that kind of scrutiny.

Okay I know there was more but as I said I have CRS badly and am drawing a blank..someone suggested Ginko Biloba at work..has anyone tried this?

Have a grat day everyone...thinking of all of you often

After three days off the antibiotics and feeling so much better, woke up this morning feeling achy, very full head and chest and burning sinus. Later after eating breakfast, immediately felt nauseated. I called the doc, he sent a second, stronger round of antibiotics. Hoping to feel better quickly as I have a lot to do for our trip. Plan to leave Saturday morning.

Mindy - my BA is in Philosophy and English Literature. My MA is in Philosophy. Only one of the papers was political philosophy and it wasn't a study of contemporary politics, more historical stuff like Marx. It just teaches you how to reason and argue and spot poor reasoning, not what opinions to hold or anything about how to be a politician. I agree with you, rather them than me. :ohwell: I am not "Political", just someone who can spot a flaw in an argument.

Much love, Heather, in the very windy UK.

Sylvia - I've read bits and pieces of the things going on in your family and about the court appearances. I gathered that your son won the custody battle; did his wife lose all parental rights to the children. I know he is sick; but, it seemed like in one post she had come to some school function and it upset you. Could be really difficult if he dies and she comes in and swoops up the children if her parental rights have not be cut off. Are you their 'legal Guardian'? You don't have to answer, not really any of my business.

Grits - congrats on your weight loss.

I'm feeling guilty at the moment cause my brother told me that mom's nursing home is having a Thanksgiving lunch on Wednesday and he can't go. I feel terrible that no one in the family will be there but it's supposed to rain heavily tomorrow and I hate the idea of driving through Atlanta and down the interstate in it.

Mindy, I'm a lot like you. The older I get I just want to stay home and not go out very much. One on one with old friends is fine but the idea of a group makes me nervous. What's so strange is that I like to get into conversations when I'm out with complete strangers. Makes me sound a little nutty.

Lordy Mercy ....... it's so good to know that I'm not the only one with Terminal C.R.S. My husband will start in the middle of something and we will look at one another like, 'what ARE you talking about' and he 'you were there'. "Mmmmm no I wasn't, I don't know what you are talking about." He says things and talks to DOS all day long; and, by the time he gets home ... he really doesn't want to talk anymore. I generally let him clean up and shower and rest for about 30 minutes before I ask him about his day. We usually have a lot to talk about because we don't see one another all day and I don't call him, unless it is important. I do call him on my weigh-in days to tell him my progress and what has been suggested to me by the MD/nurse. My DDnL#1 calls or texts our DOS 8 to 10 or more times a day with, 'what are you doing'? 'DUH!!!! Working ... what are you doing'? She calls to gripe about her job, etc., ask stupid questions; and "IF" she would stop it then maybe they would have something to talk about when they got home from work and relaxed. But, I don't have a monkey in that cage. Unless, they bring the cage down to our home, which they do occasionally. DDnL#1 is having a 'time' of it; and, if she doesn't stop trying to do everything, she is either going to find she no longer has a job to go to or she'll have a nervous breakdown. I'm not so sure it would be easy to deal with either at this point. She just needs to try to 'ratchet it down a bit'. I still have not responded to her 'rip me to shreds email' I got 2 weeks ago. Just totally ignored it the best I could. Did send a copy to my MD since I tell him that she is one of my biggest 'stressors'. This is the first and only time (so far) that she has put her feelings to paper. I was totally blown away by the email that was titled: "Good Morning". That did not make my morning good - at all! I typed 45 pages into my journal about how it made me feel ... mostly ''hurt" - far past being mad or upset.

Thanks DJ and Michele - I'm 52, married to my BFF, no kids but a a 17 year old rescue dog (Dachshund/Italian Greyhound mix who might as well be our child :-) I work full time from home and from the office. We love to golf and love the outdoors in general.
I have been struggling with the same 30lbs for ever - I could have made several other me's over my lifetime. I'm committed to losing the 30 again and have been exercising pretty much daily 90 mins on a recumbent bike along with hiking and stretching and strength exercises. I need to download the app to my phone again so I can track when I'm not infront of my computer -
Thank you for letting me join you folks -

Hello everyone! It's been a much better day today. I found a power of attorney form online at the Kansas Legal Services site, and printed it out giving me and my hubby the rights to take the kids to medical appointments, make decisions for them regarding education, etc. My son agreed to it and he and I went to the bank and had it notarized. He also gave me digital copies of their social security cards and their medical cards. So I'm all set. This power of attorney is even good after he passes, so it will give me some legal standing once that happens.

The ex-wife is crazy as a loon. Her parental rights were terminated by the court when she shot a guy trying to rob his house in a drug deal gone bad. (She and her husband of the moment were the drug dealers.) There was an armed standoff and the swat team came out and everything. So, after she turned states evidence against the sleazebag husband, she went to rehab. Supposedly she is on the straight and narrow, although still making bad choices regarding the men in her life. The last one was a registered sex offender and she allowed him to be with her and the kids. So, my son has been allowing her to have visits on the weekends. If he does pass away hubby and I will go to court to get custody if at all possible. This power of attorney should help if it comes to that.

His current "legal" wife (another long story) wants nothing to do with the kids, so she won't be an issue later.

It rained all day again today. The streets are full of water. My friend and I tried to walk at the indoor track this morning but it was closed for repairs so we went to the Y instead. Then we went back to her house for tea. That was really nice. Nobody has ever invited me over for tea before. I got to pet her cats, which was a treat, as I am not allowed to have a cat (hubby hates them and Molly would kill them).

My son and I talked about the oldest DGD's weight problem and he is finally concerned enough to try to do something about it. He wanted to buy sugar free stuff because she raids the kitchen at night and stuffs herself. I tried to explain about calories versus sugar but he doesn't quite get it. One of my friends suggested that I should take a zumba class with the DGD, and that she might enjoy that. I have to check and see if they allow 11 year olds in the adult classes. I didn't see any classes for kids. They ought to have some. She is certainly not the only kid with a weight problem.

Well, it's about time to go pick her up from choir practice. I hope you all have a great evening.

Thanks for all you support and kind words!!!!!!

    Sylvia

Pip Yippee! I am so pleased for you, that Kirby will be home.

Sylvia Great news about the POA. That should simplify things for you and the DGKs.

Janetr I hope you feel better soon. I used to suffer with sinus congestion. I cut out dairy and that seemed to sort the out problem. Take care of yourself on your travels.

I have read up to page 38 but am ready for bed, so only a few comments. I have already fallen asleep twice.
