    First time joining this challenge. I always felt like I couldn't keep up with the traffic with this thread :) But I think I need some extra motivation to increase my mileage with our first half marathon coming up in March.

    Mileage in November is 68. Aiming to run 80 in December.

    While I am here, I have a question that I would like fellow runners to shed some lights on:
    We want to run a 5k race a week before the half marathon. Is it completely crazy to try to PR in that 5k?

    I haven't even thought about running a half yet.. but 5km isn't a very big race and being a week before your half.. I think aiming for a PR isn't too much - although others here will probably have more insight and a much better idea :wink: I say go for it!

    Trying for 50 miles. New to running. Just finished my first 5K and planning either a 15K or a 10K trail run in January.

    12/1: 3 miles

    3 rainy miles to kick off December! Why we're getting rain instead of snow in December, I have no idea -- but I will certainly take it! Hamstring felt ok, and I managed to run my typical morning pace for the first time since the marathon on the 22nd, so I'm feeling good :) Will probably alternate biking and running this week (and maybe even next week too), keeping the running mileage low.

    Upcoming races:
    5/1/16: New Jersey Marathon

    1-6.65mi build up run from 13:07-11:04

    part of me was sad about the rain not being snow, but we've been getting so much rain, I am very happy this isn't snow. It would be nearly up to my waist i think.

  • Hi everyone,

    I'm back after a bit of a break. I'm in for 65 miles.

  • @mom3over40 I think that's fine to plan to do the 5k a week before the half, although listen to your body in the run-up. Any twinges or issues then don't go looking for a PB.

    @kareF nothing like new trainers! I'm getting some for Christmas and cannot wait!

    @c1ownfishie is LA your first marathon or have you run it before?

    @kareF - yay! Asics Cumulus? Love them...plus, they're blue which is my favorite color for running shoes!
    @Pandora_and_her_box - Welcome back!
    @mom3over40 - I think you should be fine I did this earlier this fall a week before my half and the day after my "long" run for that week.

    I fell slightly short of my 120 mile goal in November, so I'm going to try it again!

    I am in. I am just got clearance to start running again (YAH!!!) after a piriformis injury. I am starting slow and going for 25 miles but I have a 5k December 20th so that should get me over my goal. I am trying to average 3 miles each run 2-3 times a week to build up just going slow each time.

    Been a while since I posted in the group so I'm back and I'm in for 40k. But I'll be starting slow because my hip is killing me every time I run, so I'm taking two (maybe more) weeks off. Got to let it heal.

    I'm down for 45. I love walking and have been doing 3.5-4 miles several times a week for months now, but am just now trying to run. Baby steps...

    @MorningGhost14: At 160 miles, you are the thread’s “Most likely to wear out your shoes this month” award winner
    @mom3over40, @dawniemate: Welcome

    It’s a new month, goal is 60 miles again…
    Dec 1: Advent begins. Light mist but warm (low 50s), still a little bit of hip twinge, nice and slow this morning, 4.44 miles.

    I'm going have another attempt at 60 miles. I know I can do it. Today's run was against the wind and I can feel the effect on my chest. I'll be glued to accuweather all month to pick any settled spells. At least work is calmer so I'll be able to pull on my gear and run if there's a break in the clouds.

    Good luck everyone with your targets and up coming races and training plans!

    Starting off the month with a 4 mile tempo run. My first run since taking a couple weeks complete rest after my little marathon series in the fall. Kept a good pace, pushing the LT range, and everything is feeling fine post-run. So excited!

    12/1 - 4 mile lactate threshold run

    Total 4 of 125 miles

    You try some professional PT? Wishing you a speedy recovery!

    @kimlight2 piriformis injury? I have bilateral piriformis syndrome. Left side has been debilitating. It's not easy to get over. Wishing you a speedy recovery too!
