After a year of maintaining a stable weight, I stopped getting the comments that I shouldn't lose so much weight except from people who don't see me very often. People simply got used to the new me. Even non-runners got used to the new me, and stopped telling me I need to gain back some weight.
One night at the dinner table, after my wife told me I should stop losing weight...after I declined a second helping of whatever it was we were eating that night, my son had a good observation. He said, "Dad, you just need to stop losing weight long enough for us to get used to how you look now". At the time I had lost about 35 pounds in 4 months. It's not necessarily the weight you're at, but how much difference there is and how quick it changed.

Enjoy the experience, you betcha! Kick butt, not likely. There were 269 guys in my age group who registered in the first tranch, meaning the ones who weren't legacy (10+ years running Boston) had to beat their BQ target by 20 minutes or more. I was in that group, but chances are it also contains many people faster than I am. I know a guy (in the age group I'm about to age out of) who beat his BQ target for Boston 2016 by 40 minutes, at Boston 2015 . . . and finished 30th in his age group.0 -
@Stoshew71 You've got the best, calmest, most supportive thread on the entire MFP site as far as I'm concerned.

I love coming to this thread when I'm gearing up for a run, and particularly my Saturday parkrun.
It really helps get my mind in The Running Zone!
Ah, who am I kidding? I love coming to this thread every day!0 -

Strava has just died on me.. GPS is not working at all. I even restarted my phone but had no luck. It counts how long I exercise for but tells me I am not moving and after I walked for 40 minutes, I tried saving the walk, hoping the GPS data would maybe appear but it told me it can’t save an activity when I didn’t do anything! The only way I know roughly how far I have walked is because I took a walk along a road I used to go along and know that it is 1km each way exactly (I did a few laps) I also managed to do a 2.7 walk this morning (which Strava DID record). Will try the Nike app tomorrow and see if that works.. Hoping it has nothing to do with the GPS on my phone!

Super windy this morning but nice run under the rain, never lost my calm despite a 5km upwind and uphill.
And first injury, people were right in saying I am overdoing. While removing a glove I think I slightly chipped one of my front tooth...terrible I'll probably take 3 weeks off
Tomorrow last early early alarm of the year!
@MobyCarp you are right, people are not used to changes and when one happens the people refuse to see the positive side
@MorningGhost14 I'm a lonely wolf and in my ideal world no one can bother me. But in the real world there are unfortunately relationships. So the problem is not to care about comments, but to deal with them if they create problems at work\family.0 -

(I am a bit of an isolationist, too... when I was on MFP before my screen name was LoneWolfRunner because I really don't like running with other people... which is why I prefer long distance trail races... not many people.)

1-6.65mi build up run from 13:07-11:04
2-strength and yoga day
3-6.69mi fast run 11:40, technically. but reality is we have 5 min warm up and potty breaks for the dog
4-rest day, maybe yoga day. feeling poopy
5-13.17mi I was only scheduled for 11 but I was feeling so good at 9 miles I went on and decided to do a whole 13. I have to say a marathon isn't that scarey now.
6-3.18mi for recovery and to do the Runkeeper Global 5k
7-yoga
8-rest day. so tired i'm dizzy. not sure why
9-no sleep last night-rest. I'm calling it recovery week from the 18miles this weekend aerial yoga at night
10-3.12mi with hills, including two steep ones. top of quads and hips still feel extremely tight
11-planned on running but was too tired still. rest day
12-10.37 it went well. I was supposed to run the last three with my stepdaughter-to-be but typical teenager, she slept in. tried a new trail. it was nice and foggy. good run
13-meant to make up the other three. didn't happen
14-yoga day.
15-6.56mi They felt fast. I felt fast. runkeepers updates overall made me sound fast, but i was slow. 1 min off my pace.
16-yoga day. I did a video for the GOT challenge. not as satisfying as my asanas Great aerial yoga night though
17-6.48mi. I'm not sure if the distance is right because i ran the same route as the 15th. hard run but i feel good about finishing it
18-rest day. stretchng this morning. working on my splits for yoga. yoga tonight of some form or another
19-13.2mi it was hard. it didn't feel easy like my last 13
20-rest day
21-stomach bug
22-stomach bug
upcoming race:
jan 17: Frosty 5K Run / Walk

I did one with runkeeper. a 5k and then a 10k challenge0 -
_nikkiwolf_ wrote:downloaded the "Zombies, run!"-App. Somehow that app gave my only 4.4km for the run, while my watch calls it something closer to 4.9km (wonky phone GPS maybe?).
The following may help explain:
How certified courses are measured and running the tangents
http://www.clevelandmarathon.com/resources/userUploads/CertifiedCoursevsGPSAccuracy.SRV_1338321859.pdf
http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2009/03/racing-line-understanding-how-courses.html
http://www.runninginjuryfree.org/2008/10/run-tangents.html
http://sciencebasedrunning.com/2014/12/the-basics-running-tangents/
Though probably it's not the phone GPS but the zombies-app - it did it again today, though in this case the app gave me 8.1km, while my watch thinks it was 7.6km (and knowing the course I took, I have to agree with the watch). After I uploaded the run to the zombie-website and hovered my mouse over the last few points of the pace diagramm, I can see that that covers a distance of 7.61km (agreeing with the watch), but the "run summary" still sais "distance 8.08". Looks like a bug to me...
Maybe I'll see if I can find a way to switch of pace/distance announcements in the app, then it won't bother me so much anymore.

I just did (this month) the Moon Joggers Ugly Sweater Virtual 5K/10K. They're online and on FB. Pay the fee and get a pretty nice medal. Prob will do some more (since my usual Saturday run would qualify as a 10K most weeks).0 -
My sister tells me it takes a year per 25 lbs. lost for your self-image to catch up to your actual body size. That was about right for me, and also about right for the people who thought I lost too much weight.
Hadn't heard this before. Interesting. I still have times where I feel/act like the "funny fat kid" I was for essentially my entire life. My wife also sometimes tells me I still dress like I weigh 300 lbs., just in a smaller size. Thanks for sharing this.

12/1 - 4 miles on indoor track + 4.5 miles on stationary bike
12/2 - Took my rest day early. Weather is supposed to be way better this weekend, so planning to run long(er) than usual both days.
12/3 - 5.09 miles on treadmill (Trek class)
12/4 - 4 miles on indoor track + weights/abs
12/5 - 5.5 miles (I think)...my phone / GPS crashed after about 4, so I lost my distance and time
12/6 - 3.1 miles on small indoor track
12/7 - unplanned rest day
12/8 - 4 miles on indoor track + weight/abs
12/9 - 5.25 beautiful miles...40° F at 5:00 a.m. in December! Ran a route that I used a lot last spring/summer, but had been a while. Fun, relaxing, almost perfect!
12/10 - 5.25 miles on treadmill (Trek class)
12/11 - 3.1 miles on indoor track + weights/abs
12/12 - 6 chilly miles
12/13 - rest day
12/14 - life day
12/15 - 4 miles on indoor track + weights
12/16 - 5 wind-blown miles. Can't complain about 42° F at 5 a.m. on December 16 though!
12/17 - 5.05 miles on treadmill (Trek class)
12/18 - 4.1 miles on indoor track + weights/abs
12/19 - rest day
12/20 - 4.75 miles around my 'hood
12/21 - unplanned rest day; up half the night sneezing/coughing/blowing nose. It seems someone has gifted me a cold for Christimas.
12/22 - 4 miles on indoor track + weights. Cold seems to not have grabbed on (another benefit of losing weight and regular exercise...I don't get sick nearly as often or as bad as before)

I have done a few. I set a goal for each one, not always a faster time, and it helps keep me motivated. Last one I did I wanted to keep a more consistent pace, I did one where I wanted to cut down the number of walk breaks I was taking. I helped keep me going when the weather was crazy hot and humid and I wanted to quit. Doesn't hurt that you get a cool medal0 -

Not sure I'm gonna make my goal - losing 2 days for not-fun runs hurts, plus the reduced mileage to follow the HM training. But I've decided I'm gonna do the HM training, but add a little bit on top, just for funsies.

Chilly and hilly! There's a gigantic hill (according to this site it's around 7-8% grade) that leads into our neighborhood, and my dad and brother always avoid it when they run; they just run loops around the neighborhood on our side of it so they don't have to climb the hill on the way back. I've never run it all the way before, and today I finally conquered it! And it was my 2nd fastest mile overall of the run since it's probably 5% grade on the back side. Turned onto my street feeling like a total champ
