I would actually like to get a treadmill for those cold wet days that just don't inspire me to get outside.
cold wet days? Just move to the UK. We get more than our fair share!!!
We've just had a couple of below freezing days, but crisp and bright. Perfect for a winter's walk, although sadly I've had to work. Am hoping for a bit more of that at the weekend so I can get the bike out or do a walk somewhere. My regular walking buddy is in New Zealand for a couple of months so I'm left to fend for myself.
Totals so far - 32.5 miles walking/running
5.5 hours of dance classes.

Machka I've had my Treadmill for probably 20 years but it was expensive when I purchased it and I used it every day. Later I started walking outside and only used it in the winter months when it was extremely cold. Later I got the exercise Bike and rotated all three activities. I still use the Treadmill BUT as said I dont enjoy it as much. I do like the Exercise bike because it's in the TV room but it needs too be worked on. I have wanted too walk more and more in as cold weather as possible and have done that this year. Several years back I would not walk IF it was not at least 48 degrees! lol...NOW I actually walk in the twenties IF it is sunny and the wind is not blowing...0

Today husband and I went too town and we took the girls with us. We walked a track there that allows dogs as well. 2.0 Walking Miles today....

Wednesday (Jan 13) was a beautiful day! 34°C degrees and bright sunshine ... so we went to the beach after work. And there were WAVES! Apparently there was a 3 metre swell out there resulting in the biggest waves I've seen on our beach. We spent some time in the water, but only up to my waist. Those waves made me just a little bit nervous. We left as the storm clouds were gathering and as we neared home (walking, of course, the beach is only about 1 km away), the thunder and lightening started. And the minute we set foot inside the house, the sky opened up and the rain poured down. We haven't had a good storm in a while!! And then we had "Day 2" of my slow cooker chicken veg curry ... always better on the second day.
Thursday (Jan 14) reached a high of 17°C and toward the end of the day they were predicting snow down to 1200 metres.
That's Tasmania for you.

And from Saturday ...OK ... I'm going to attempt to type this, and we'll see how it goes. It will take me a little bit of time ... and I'm now wondering why so many words have "t"s in them. I will explain all this in the story, so on with the story!
Saturday -- My husband is finally finished with the cherry harvest and we are "training" for longer events. I have been gradually increasing my distance and this week was scheduled to do a ride over 100 km. Preferably somewhere between 110 and 120 km.
We decided to do a ride that is mostly flat ... ha ha!
The route starts with a long 12 km climb and then a brisk descent into Hobart. From there the route is mostly flat ... except for all the little ups and downs. Then there's a long climb, up a different road, and a brisk descent back into our suburb, then a bit of up and down home. All up, I think it comes in at about 900 metres (3000 feet) ... so it is one of the flatter routes around.
We had a light headwind to start and then the headwind increased and became quite strong (40 km/h). It became a bit of a slog getting out to our turnaround point. What also didn't help was the road surface ... really rough ... and the traffic! Wind, rough roads and traffic. Great combo.
But we made it to New Norfolk and stopped for lunch. Much needed break.
On the way back we had a glorious tailwind! Even the rough road and traffic didn't seem so bad! We flew back to Hobart, but as we got closer to the centre of town, the wind shifted and the cooler sea breeze came in. And it was back to a slog for a little while. Incidentally, the actual direction of the wind was the opposite of what was predicted.
But the climb back to our suburb wasn't too bad ... the wind wasn't much of a factor there because of the trees and buildings.
Just as we were reaching the top of the climb, it felt like a large leaf or bit of eucalyptus tree landed on my helmet or fell into one of my vents. I reached up to remove it and all of a sudden there was an agonising, searing pain in my left index finger. I yelped, and stopped to remove my helmet. I was still thinking "plant" and thought maybe it was a thorn, but then it suddenly dawned on me ... wasp!! I had been stung by a wasp! If you've never been stung by a wasp, let me tell you ... that is some pain!
After ensuring that the wasp was no longer in my hair or helmet, I took an allergy pill (I carry them) and we continued. But my finger was too sore to allow me to shift my chainring. When I did need to, I reached over and shifted with my right hand ... that's awkward! It was also extremely painful using the brakes on the brisk descent back into our suburb.
My finger is still sore, red, and badly swollen ... in fact, my whole left hand is slightly swollen. Makes typing interesting.
I didn't take any photos this time as we were on a mission to do this ride so we didn't stop much.
So all up ... 112.68 km with a rolling average speed off 18.8 km/h and an overall speed of 16 km/h. Faster than anticipated.

3.0 walking miles although I went by myself as it was still icy/snow. It gave me a faster walk without the girls so I got finished a bit earlier even though I had too watch the patchy icy areas...

When I am done with Jan. I will save to Excel document. Then in July @ 95* I can look back and remember what the days was like in the cold lol
I can realize how good the heat feels and "well just maybe I was crazy like everybody that sees me riding thinks" lol

oooh @Machka9 that sounds like a great ride but oh so painful!!!!
I had a similar experience riding with a bee, only it got trapped down my front and stung me on my breast!! an interesting ride home again!
I haven't been out on the bike for a while but you guys are making me yearn for some good weather.0 -

That happened to me too with a bee ... only the instant it flew in, I had my jersey open and pulled my bra out of the way and flicked it out just before anything bad happened. I was on a road with traffic too, but didn't even notice the cars until I was rearranging myself and saw that 2 or 3 cars had slowed right down.
But that would have been a painful place to be stung!0 -
