    I don't really swim ... I can kind of make it down a 25 metre lane, but not well. So while I'm OK wading in the ocean, even doing a bit of swimming if it is calm. I just feel I can't handle the waves!!

    Wednesday (Jan 13) was a beautiful day! 34°C degrees and bright sunshine ... so we went to the beach after work. And there were WAVES! Apparently there was a 3 metre swell out there resulting in the biggest waves I've seen on our beach. We spent some time in the water, but only up to my waist. Those waves made me just a little bit nervous. We left as the storm clouds were gathering and as we neared home (walking, of course, the beach is only about 1 km away), the thunder and lightening started. And the minute we set foot inside the house, the sky opened up and the rain poured down. We haven't had a good storm in a while!! And then we had "Day 2" of my slow cooker chicken veg curry ... always better on the second day.

    Thursday (Jan 14) reached a high of 17°C and toward the end of the day they were predicting snow down to 1200 metres.

    That's Tasmania for you.

    Jan 16 - 101.6 km (320 min) cycling

    Saturday's ride ... 101.6 km training ride with approx. 560 metres of climbing.

    I cycled from home down to Kettering, then caught the ferry across to Bruny Island. Once there, I cycled down to Alonnah, and back to the Bruny Island Ferry Terminal.

    That's the short story. Now the slightly longer version ...

    Today was a lovely day with a high of about 20C, mostly sunny and a fairly strong south-east wind gusting up to 40 km/h. The wind started a little lighter than that, but got stronger as the day went on. This meant that I had a headwind on the way down, and a tailwind on the way back. That headwind had me worried for a while because I didn't realise how strong it was and was beginning to wonder what was wrong with me that I couldn't seem to get up any speed. At the turnaround point, I overheard a couple people in the shop talking about the wind and saying it had become quite strong. Oh ... heh heh ... maybe that's what was up! And on the way back, I definitely had speed! :grin:

    The first 25 km was from home to the ferry, and that bit contained about half the climbing. So I had quite a hilly start to the ride. The remaining 75 km on the island, had the other half of the climbing, concentrated in the beginning, the bit right around the turnaround point, and the end. The middle gave me a bit of a break.

    The traffic was pretty good. We've got a 1.5 metre law here ... motorists are supposed to give cyclists 1.5 metres. The vast majority of the drivers did that ... there were just two I can remember who cut it pretty close.

    On the ferry ride over to Bruny Island, I met a couple who were also cycling and we chatted the whole way over and a little bit when we had disembarked. That was really nice. We also spotted a seal in the water doing it's body temperature regulation thing with the flipper out of the water. :) They were heading the opposite direction to do a bit of camping (cycletouring).

    There were quite a few other cycletourists along the way as well. :)

    One funny thing happened after I'd been cycling on the island for about 10 km. All of a sudden there was a trumpet! Loud and sounding like it was right next to me!!

    "I'm not feeling that bad after all that climbing for Gabriel to be coming for me now!" I thought.

    It was someone standing on the beach, next to where I was cycling, playing the trumpet. :lol:


    At the end of the ride, I stopped by Rowan's orchard to see where he was in the process of wrapping up his day, and then I cycled down to the ferry terminal to wait for him. We rode the ferry back together and then I caught a lift home.

    I was really pleased with two things in particular:

    1) I managed an 18 km/h average rolling speed. That's the fastest I've ridden in a long time. :)

    2) Last weekend I did a 77 km ride in a total time of 5 hours. This weekend, I did the 75 km on the island in about 4 hours 40 min. I knocked 20 min off that distance! :grin:

    I'm in! Going to try for 1,000 minutes of exercise - could be a push considering how pathetic the first week has been but we will see:

    5th - 33 mins; Bicycle (8km)
    9th - 31 mins; Bicycle (8km) + 80 mins; Zumba = 111 mins
    11th - 27 mins; Bicycle (7.5km) + 58 mins; Zumba = 85 mins
    14th - 31 mins; Bicycle (7.6km) + 64 mins; Zumba = 95 mins

    16th - 42 mins; Zumba

    Well I gave it my best shot! It was a whopping 28F degrees. I bundled up and tried a walk/run thing here and there. Ended up with 1.5 miles. Husband took my girls for a walk as I had too child sit a home school student today so I was lucky too even get in a bit of exercise...

    cold wet days? Just move to the UK. We get more than our fair share!!!

    We've just had a couple of below freezing days, but crisp and bright. Perfect for a winter's walk, although sadly I've had to work. Am hoping for a bit more of that at the weekend so I can get the bike out or do a walk somewhere. My regular walking buddy is in New Zealand for a couple of months so I'm left to fend for myself.

    Totals so far - 32.5 miles walking/running
    5.5 hours of dance classes.

    Machka I've had my Treadmill for probably 20 years but it was expensive when I purchased it and I used it every day. Later I started walking outside and only used it in the winter months when it was extremely cold. Later I got the exercise Bike and rotated all three activities. I still use the Treadmill BUT as said I dont enjoy it as much. I do like the Exercise bike because it's in the TV room but it needs too be worked on. I have wanted too walk more and more in as cold weather as possible and have done that this year. Several years back I would not walk IF it was not at least 48 degrees! lol...NOW I actually walk in the twenties IF it is sunny and the wind is not blowing...

    Today husband and I went too town and we took the girls with us. We walked a track there that allows dogs as well. 2.0 Walking Miles today....
