What was her name? All meat eaters should add her and then bombard her feed with how tasty the furbabies we have just eaten were.

Lol I may or may not have said before deleting her

"My fur babies are exactly where they were intended.... On my bbq!"

And I'm all for eat and let eat... If someone feels bad eating food with a face... Happy for them. But....

Until we get human rights sorted, I'm not ready to pick up the flag for vegangelism.

I only have so much fight in me... I'm going to worry about my own species before I start working down the food chain.

I also live in one of the poorest countries in Africa. Without meat, fish, bugs, snakes etc - I could guarantee a majority of this population would be malnourished. Living on cornmeal would do no good....

And even the cornmeal is imported by road... So environmentally we would probably worse than eating what comes naturally from within our own borders.

Some vegans are like that. Speaking as a vegan, they should all go live on an island where they can be condescending to each other and argue over whose vegan super powers are greater. Life is too short for evangelical crap and the world needs too much diversity for there to ever be a mono-diet, no matter your feels on the subject of animal welfare.

    *edited for spelling.

id like to go to this island sounds pretty and full of good food

Probably is, but I'd guess you'd get into a row with someone, since you seem to be pretty good at that. I don't mind though... it's usually pretty entertaining to watch the fallout after you chew someone up like that.

    Chewing someone up: not vegan.

Ha, that was awesome, although I could see why it pissed vegans off.

I've actually been attacked by my family/relatives and sometimes my friend circle for even mentioning my vegetarianism. I don't see any point in me bugging somebody over their steak as I don't want to be bugged over my choice of plant foods on my plate.

Level 5 is not eating anything that casts a shadow. I don't know what the higher levels have.

A lot of stuff being said by "indifferent" people in this tread is the same crap most vegetarian or vegan people get all the time generally unwarented.

I don't know how many people need to tell me how they would die without meat, how much they love animals, their apparently super researched economic oppinions, or how good their meat food is.

I wasn't born not eating meat... I've had steak and hamburgers as have most of us. We aren't aliens.

To be fair, the comments on this thread are in the context of a situation where a vegan apparently offered an utterly unsolicited opinion on a non-vegan's diet. It isn't like someone started a thread called "For no reason, tell me what you don't like about vegans or veganism."

That's what I'm talking about with respect. I don't care if someone wants to be a vegetarian or vegan. That's their choice, and if they're happy with it, more power to them. I don't ever comment on people's meals except to find out what something is if it looks good. I wouldn't eat a meal out with someone that demanded I eat the same as they do because they can't stand watching someone eat meat, but at the same time, if I was invited to someone's house that's vegetarian/vegan, I wouldn't bring anything that they wouldn't eat. It's about respecting someone's choices and boundarys. Which a lot of people never learn.

And you're right, both sides do it. It's rude and I get snarky when someone tries it on me. But that happens with just about any issue, and it's the small few that are the most obnoxious that get the spotlight and ruin the reputation for the whole group. Not sure what the solution for that is, either.

By and by, there's a noncompetitive running group whose members mix drinking with their running. Many kennels affectionately refer to competitive runners within their numbers as rac*sts. Just saying.

Hash House Harriers? I've done that.

It is if you chew a vegan up? "You are what you eat" the vegan is a vegetable

That's funny, my crazy prepper friends tell me that I'm a last resort lean protein source for them. So apparently not a vegetable in their eyes. :D

I don't personally try to make anyone feel like *kitten* for eating meat but as a Vegan, some of us can't help but see beyond the plate and the cruelty about it. I'm surprised to see that other Vegans don't understand that because most of us want to be a voice for the animals. I've decided to take the don't ask don't tell policy but I it's NOT cool for anyone to mock animals and attack Vegans either. Since this is MFP, I do think we should focus on the health benefits.

I understand *why* someone would want to speak to others about veganism. Believe me, I do. But if we want to be effective advocates, we have to be mindful of when and how we do this.

Speaking up just to make ourselves feel better is stupid and selfish because it is counter-productive. It doesn't help a single animal and that should be our focus area -- not our personal desire to "be a voice for animals."

When the time and the place is right, I will gladly engage in advocacy. But the way to do that isn't to FR people and then give them unsolicited comments about "furbabies." People aren't here to hear about veganism (unless they indicate that they are) and it isn't going to go well. Just like it usually won't go well if you corner co-workers or try to convert your cousins over Thanksgiving dinner. Wrong-headed attempts at outreach and advocacy harm animals by creating damaging perceptions of vegans and veganism.

If someone wants to "attack vegans," that's pretty irrelevant. It doesn't harm animals. If there are misconceptions about veganism or vegans, I'll attempt to address them. But otherwise, it doesn't really matter.

I mean, I love to talk about politics, but I would be weirded out if someone sent me a FR and then began trying to persuade me to vote for Ted Cruz. It isn't why people are here. It's just not the purpose of this website.

I seem to recall another thread where someone said they graffiti "go vegan" when they're on vacation. Does that fall under the don't ask, don't tell policy?
