interesting i've never heard of that either, i thought it was used to describe vegans AND vegetarians as well. Well Veg*n anyways, not Ve*an...maybe that's the difference.

How do I pronounce that? This is very confusing...

I think it's just something like shorthand but for typing, it's not necessarily something that you would say out loud, just type out.

I think it's similar to how Prince pronounced his symbol name.

Wait, never mind, say it like this.

So ve*an is pronounced "artist formerly known as Prince"? Cool.

(Yeah, yeah, I know you said how Prince pronounced it.)

There are militant adherents to pretty much anything, really. Some groups have more of them. If someone in a group feels strongly enough, they feel it's their duty to 'educate' everyone because they're obviously right and everyone should do the same thing they're doing. ><

If she starts back in, even after you've been polite and asked her not to, feel free to use this one. XD

I always thought it was a curse word, like "those *kitten* vegans and their propaganda"

You have no idea how long I've been waiting to use it! XD

I honestly have nothing against vegetarians or vegans. You can eat what you want, not my place to say. If it works for you, kudos. All I ever ask is they give me the same courtesy.

    Of course, I always thing of Scott Pilgrim when I first hear someone I know is a vegan. ^_^;

Tell me this is a 1-off and that there aren't an army of them around?

    Chick adds me

I had posted that I was stalling in my weight loss.

She said it was because I eat furbabies and should watch forks over spoons or knives or someother mockumentary

Then she said that I shouldn't add her if I don't want honest feedback

    But....she added me.

So I delete her comment because useless jabber... And she proceeds to PM me?!

So. Vegans. I like you. You are good people. But I hope there isn't a rogue mission trying to convert the rest of us who like eating food that once had a face?

You can also block her from sending you messages you know.
I've been here over a year and have yet to have a negative comment on my food diary from anyone.

What does the * in ve*an stand for? I've never seen that before....

The * is a placeholder sign that can stand for any amount of symbols. So ve*an can stand for either vegan or vegetarian.

It could also stand for veterinarian, or venn diagram usage manual technician, or veal is awesome, man.

    Hahahaha! I love that!

Some vegans are like that. Speaking as a vegan, they should all go live on an island where they can be condescending to each other and argue over whose vegan super powers are greater. Life is too short for evangelical crap and the world needs too much diversity for there to ever be a mono-diet, no matter your feels on the subject of animal welfare.

    *edited for spelling.

id like to go to this island sounds pretty and full of good food

Probably is, but I'd guess you'd get into a row with someone, since you seem to be pretty good at that. I don't mind though... it's usually pretty entertaining to watch the fallout after you chew someone up like that.

Pfft, you're not *truly* vegan until you have eliminated all oppressive colloquial phrases from your life.

And phrases too. Language is just a tool of human oppression.

Better ditch all of it just to be safe.

*nods* (Is body language ok?) On a side note, one of my favorite authors had an idea that language was a virus that perpetuated itself throughout mankind. He was batshit crazy, but still an interesting theory.

I had her as a friend too, and saw her post about if you're diary is open expect her to offer "advice" and then the comments about the furbabies stuff. I ended up deleting her too. She hadn't commented on my diary, but I figured if she thought having an open diary was an invitation to criticize food choices because they differ than her beliefs then I didn't need that kind of "friend". Glad you deleted her as well.

It could also stand for veterinarian...

Words that can stand for veterinarian? Doctor, doc, doctor of veterinary medicine, veterinary medical doctor, veterinary doctor, DVM, and VMD all come to mind before "ve*an".

Or, if one is disgruntled? "That no good, good for nuthin', money-grubbing, greedy vet'inaryian. S/He doesn't care about the animals, just where his/her next BMW payment comes from! If S/He really cared about animals, why, s/he would have done it for free!"

Disclaimer: I know a lot of veterinarians. :)

By and by, there's a noncompetitive running group whose members mix drinking with their running. Many kennels affectionately refer to competitive runners within their numbers as rac*sts. Just saying.

That being said, militant vegans are to vegans as corrupt televangelists are to normal christians. It's unreasonable to hate the whole group for the sake of a few lunatic zealots.

I feel like I absolutely have to link this ad here.

The Australian Advertising Standards board got so many complaints from vegans. :D
