Do you even kale?

Interesting. So, people actually like kale? I thought it was one of those things people tortured themselves with because self flagellation is so out of style.0

There are a lot of good ways to prepare it. I've had it sauteed with bacon with blue cheese crumbled on it, I've frozen a bunch of it and used it in soups, sauces, and other dishes, I've had it steamed . . . .0 -

+1 and beets.
Have you tried beet greens?!? Clean off the dirt and they taste like dust. Packed full of stuff. What stuff?!? IDK, but it has stuff.mean_and_lean wrote: »
I was eating kale decades before I ever heard the word "superfood". It's not a new crop, ya know.0 -

No kidding. If you read my response you would see that I stated I never had it until it was part of a crop share. It had nothing to do with it being a supposed "super food" and everything to do with it being in my bunch of vegetables and being something I have never had before. I'm sure I've had it before that but just never realized what it was.0 -
When they say "100g of kale contains x,y,z", are they expecting people eat 100g in one meal/sitting?
Serious question. I ask because I've been looking around doing my best to get in more nutritiously dense foods, and haven't tried kale before and would like to try it, but don't really have an idea of how much to use at any one time?
Just use however much you want. I don't like kale as the only green in a salad. I prefer it cooked so if it's in a salad it's always part of leafy mix.0 -
Hate the taste but understand the benefits so I put a handful in my daily shake0

I don't trust any food that has to be 'massaged' to be edible0

I think you misunderstood. My remark was directed more at the post to which you replied and just playing off your response as another example that not everyone only eats kale because someone called it a superfood.0 -
I rotate my greens each week. This week is kale.
Spinach is my fav. I also enjoy collards, beet greens, swiss chard and dandelion greens.0 -

Been eating kale for over 40 years, have no idea what that statement means. I have never massaged kale. I'm not even sure how one would go about it. :laugh:0 -

Not a fan. Gave it a try though0

It gets sweeter and milder late in the season. I am still picking it from the garden, but right now I have more red mustards and collards than anything else. My thought is to eat in season and enjoy all types of fruits and vegetables. Tonight's dinner is thin sliced mustards sautéed in olive oil, an egg, a little parmesan, and an apple for dessert.0

Kale is thyroid suppressive. Since I'm hypothyroid, the doctor advises me not to eat kale.

Massaged? I've never had to "massage" the kale. Just cut the leaves off the spine, chop it up and use.

I had it in a salad once and ended up picking it all out. Oh, and in a smoothie, but there was enough fruit in there to mask the taste. I thought it was unfair to the fruit though. And bacon? Don't you feel bad for bringing down the bacon with it? Sort of like the hot girl being paired with the nerdy guy in chemistry class? Wait. I'm kale!? Never mind . . .

Just buy Soviet Kale.0 -
I like how kale tastes when I mix it 50/50 with spinach. I grew up eating greens -- we had a farm and my favorite was a wild green called lamb's quarter or pigweed. My mom used to send me out with the scissors to cut it.0

The kale from my garden is neither bitter nor tough. I've bought some in the supermarket that came pre-chopped in a bag that was terrible. I wonder how many people who have had bad experiences with kale are eating old kale.0 -
