    Hi Everyone!

Our valley is filled with smoke from several forest fires, so I am spending my day inside with the AC and an air filter machine. Generally my exercise has been outside, however, today I am going to try a yoga DVD and maybe some dancing…it might not be pretty, but at least I will be moving.

Heather…I had to laugh at your comment: I WAS TRAMPLED ON IN BED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT BY MY NAKED 34 YEAR OLD SON ! Great family story for the years to come! On another note; doesn’t it feel good when your DH compliments you?

CritterSue…Feeding your koi in the pond with a waterfall sounds wonderful! Every year there is a pond tour here that I enjoy and I always think how nice it would be to have one.

Barbie…Beautiful Lily, I don’t think I’ve ever seen one like it with the lilac coloring.

Michele…What a storm that must have been!

Meg…Your Mexican dinner sounds like fun, congrats on the no wine while playing cards! Zucchini bread is one of my favorites.

Pat…I think that there is some truth and science regarding harmful foods, especially processed, but I also think that a lot of the information out there is based on emotions and politics. I agree that it is confusing trying to determine what food choices are best for different individuals, especially with all the conflicting information that’s available.

    Robin…I like your positive attitude!!

    Dee Dee…What a great compliment!

Deb…Sounds like you had a great visit with your sisters. My sister lives in the same valley as I do and we see each other in passing or at family events, but we don’t get a chance to talk a lot. So I really enjoy it when we do get to spend a few hours together, without others, just visiting.

Cindy…Good luck with the farm house…how exciting!

    Vicki…I like your ending quote.

Hope you all are having a good afternoon/evening.:flowerforyou:

Getting very close to 500 posts so I'll be short. Still struggling but reading your posts gives me hope that I can get back on track. I'll finish my second round of antibotics for this UTI on Wednesday and hopefully be done with it. Thinking of you all and hanging on for dear life!

    Evening everyone;

this day went well calorie and exercise wise.

We went to the bank this afternoon and were assured we would not have a problem getting the loan we would need. we can put 50% down finance the rest and my husband says we could pay that back in 3 years time. Now we just need to make the offer and see if the owners will take what we are willing to pay. We'll see what happens and if God is willing then the little farm house will be just right for our son.

Well one day at the time as my MIL used to say. Its hard to believe she has been gone almost 3 years.

Hope you all have a good evening.

    I'll check back in tomorrow.

Just got word on Face Book that my son in law's sister had her first child. My grand daughters both have such tender hearts and love to work with younger children I' so excited that they now have a little cousin. His sister is such a girly girl and loves to take her nieces shopping. Both my girls have such a huge shoe collection and it is all due to their Aunt Mary. So we'll see how she does with a little boy. I have been eagerly waiting to get a call from my daughter saying she had her baby, it's funny I saw it on Face Book before she could call me. She was a little baffles I knew. That's social media for you!

Deb - the most damage were two empty boxes that got water and the floor in my exercise room. Not sure if that's rouined or not, time will just tell. If it is, I'm not sure what kind of floor to get. Tile can be hard on the joints.

Vacuumed out the pool today, got about 80% of the dirt. The water is green now (as opposed to brown). Tomorrow we'll probably run the robotic cleaner. This red clay is discoloring the sides of the pool, not sure how we're going to handle that. I know Vince is VERY frustrated and he's so afraid that we'll get another storm and more dirt in the pool. I highly doubt we'll have another storm like this one was. We did go to look at riverrock at another place today, but I'm still not sure that it'll match. If it weren't for that one spot that needed it, I wouldn't have a problem because we need it behind the equipment pad and behind the old retaining wall. It wouldn't matter if that didn't match exactly, but not matching in this one spot would stand out like a sore thumb.

Did 20 minutes of yoga today then took the extreme pump class. Tomorrow I'll do a Leslie Sansone 5 Mile walk DVD

Cindy - I do hope you get that farmhouse. How exciting!

ServPro is supposed to be here tomorrow. Don't know what time. I usually go to a mahjongg game on Monday nights, but I think I'll skip it tonight and get the books out of the bookcases for them. Just in case they're here at 9 in the morning, I'd like to have everything done.

DeeDee - yea for sunshine!!!! The sky is so blue here right now.

Robin - you sound so much better. I'm so happy

Pat - yesterday wasn't real bad weather-wise, it was Saturday that was the horrible rain. Newton got something like 6 inches. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if the flooring in the exercise room is rouined or not.

Lucy in DE - someone on here mentioned the Wet & Forget item, I used that on my deck and it took the green (mold?) stuff away. Now there's this black(mildew?) on the deck, but I think that'll just take longer and longer to disintigrate. Honestly, I was skeptical at first about the stuff, but it really does work well. I used to have to clean my railings on the deck (about 20') with a toothbrush to get all the green mold off at least once/year. Now I can just spray this stuff on and the mold goes away. Sounds like you got the rain we had on Saturday. Don't you just wish they'd make foods without so much sodium? I know one time I went to buy applesauce and thought "hey, I'll try the WalMart brand" Then I looked at the ingredients! I was shocked to see that it contained apples and SALT. Guess the salt is in there for a flavor enhancer. I just put it back and got Mott's Natural which had only apples in it.

Lila - Honestly, I don't think the Mastercook program is any faster than MFP's recipe. I used this before MFP had that, or at least before I knew that MFP had it.

Kate - I had my first children two 2 years apart and the third 16 months after the second. To be honest, I found it easier to have them close in age. Yes, it's a hassle at first, but in the end it really was easier. In sports the older one was in one league while the two younger ones were in another. It was just diaper-changing-assembly-line. The older one could have, say, the small Legos but the younger ones couldn't. To me, it was harder to have them further apart in age.

One branch (the one that I don't go to much) is closed right now due to water damage.

Anyone know how the corn crops have been?

Kathy - thanks for the quote

Hello, all. Figured I’d better get caught up before the next iteration of this message board gets started. Tried vegetarian soy chorizo scrambled with eggs this morning & was pleasantly surprised since I’ve always been leery of soy. So much healthier but it still satisfied my Mexican food craving. I’ll have to look for other soy food options that I can hide.

Cindy – prayers that the offer was accepted so your son gets that little farm house.

Jane – I love the ‘red robin’ story, we have way too many blue jays here: haven’t seen a cardinal since I lived back east.

Sue – hoping for great results on that second round of antibiotics.

Terri – hope they’re getting those fires under control.

Barb – I haven’t yet commented on your sweater before & after photos. How inspiring it must be to look at the before you & it must give even more joy to wearing that sweater. I just read about the Isagenix program after reading your post. I just don’t find shakes satisfying, ah, well. Love the Baryshnikov quote.

Vicki – happy dancing with you about your blood work!

Joyce – good for you getting to the Y and easing back in per instructions.

Kathy – I should print out the Martha Washington quote. I try and embrace that philosophy but there are days when it’s a real struggle.

Meg – great job with the chips & margaritas, I’d never be able to do that ;-b I love when I take some reading time and my 15 yr. old cat, Hobbs, noses his way under my hand.

yanniejannie – “almost to my 2nd elephant!” – huh? Hope you get enough rain to get the humidity out of the air.

Kate – let me know how the C25K is going, I’m a little afraid to try it. I never was a runner and I think I want to be a oneder before trying it. I understand your need to recuperate from large group settings. Exactly how I feel! I need my quiet time, with a book preferably. Trying to change that into quiet time while on the treadmill at the gym.

Lila – so glad it was a wonderful morning for you.

Lucy – your poor 100 lb. baby, Milo. I live right by an army base so my animals are generally accustomed to loud noise (artillery). Still, on the 4th of July my cat, Hobbs, found a spot in the kitchen to hide out.

Heather – It may take the rest of his life to live down the “naked son story.”

Pat – no, you’re not being Chicken Little. I think we all have questions about the foods we eat that we didn’t used to consider. I try and stay with unprocessed, but I won’t claim that that’s an absolute for me. I don’t have time to grow everything I want to eat myself and it’s not feasible economically for me to stick with organic. I do the best I can and that’s all that any of us can do.

Robin – way to get that positive energy going! Go you!

DeeDee – great compliment! I feel pretty wimpy with my 3 lb. weights, but, hey, I started with kidney bean cans (~1 lb.)

Gail – good luck with the birds, mine are so noisy! Cannot wait till they fly off and I can let DH cover the chimney with a bird guard.

Michele – good luck with the basement, river rock, and all.

Anyone I've missed, sorry, but I couldn't read back through everything. Sending out positive thoughts to you all.

Greetings from very stormy Maui. It is thundering, lightening, very very windy and pouring outside. :noway: I'm a bit freaked out and my DH is sound asleep next to me (he can sleep through any thing!!!). Thank goodness Tropical Storm Flossie lost some of her power before she hit us - I can't imagine how much worse it could be.
We ended up doing an extra long work out in the fitness center because the rain started down in torrential sheets and we wanted to wait until it calmed down a bit before we went out into it (we are about a 5 minute walk from the fitness center). It rained off and on all day and we did get out for an early dinner, but when we decided to try and get a walk in along the beach it started raining again. It got a lot worse for awhile (complete with flickering lights and thunder that rattled our windows). Ahhh paradise. At least the weather has Flossie moving out tomorrow so hopefully we'll start to get to enjoy our vacation soon.

Dee Dee - what a great compliment. FYI I'm starting a strength training challenge when I get back. You can join us and start to use those new dumb bells:wink:

    Heather - LOL

Robin - you sound so much happier!

Michelle - hope your basement is all cleaned up

Oh oh...lights are flickering again. I need to plug my laptop in since I'm almost out of power. Hopefully I'll be posting again from sun shiny Hawaii :glasses: :glasses: :glasses:

Hello Ladies ~ what inspiration in reading your messages (up way too late ~ but worth it!).

I love your pictures, support and insights.

I have almost a month under my belt recording every morsel (good, bad, and ugly). I started last year but have been gone a LONG time (working in another city and helping out friends with health issues.)

Now it's time to focus on my HEALTH. And I'm feeling very positive about MFP and what looks to be a lovely supportive community.

I need to lose 1/2 body weight - and since it's my 50 year High School reunion in Aug. 2014 - I'm giving myself a year to accomplish this. I've lost 7 lbs during July -- my practice month. Now it's time to get really serious.

    Thanks for being here.

Good morning from sunny Cheshire, England. Well sunny for a minute, then cloudy, then sunny, then cloudy ..... The lovely weather we had at the start of my holiday became more unsettled a few days ago. It's still mild but we've had some good thunderstorms too. It's my last full day here and I fly home tomorrow afternoon, arriving in Boston around 5pm. I'm going to a lovely fish restaurant for lunch today with my parents, then picking up my 14 year old niece to spend some time with her. I've had a really lovely holiday and had lots of time with my parents, for which I'm truly grateful, but I'm also ready to get home and get back on track. I'm missing my husband and kiddywinks.

    Helen in Cheshire until tomorrow.

    Good morning ladies!!

Today's weather sounds like the perfect summer day for me!! Mid 70's, mostly sunny. We will be spending most of it with friends in kayaks on a beautiful lake in the Adirondack mountains. It doesn't get any better than this!!

Michele- Glad there wasn't more damage. My SIL lost everything in their basement a few months ago after a heavy storm. Their basement is totally finished with their bedroom and family room. I agree that tile floors would be hard to exercise on.

I just looked at the clock and must get going!! Can't be late for our meet-up with friends!

    Have a great day!!

:flowerforyou: I’m just finishing my breakfast shake (24 grams of protein, 24 grams of carbs, calcium, and a bunch of other nutritious stuff) and the dogs are watching me from the couch waiting to go on our long walk. Bernie, the cat, woke me unnecessarily early this morning ---I have no dance class or early meeting so I could have slept later. I walked the dogs one at a time and did 150 of the 210 squats for my challenge today.

 Deb, kayaks in the Adirondacks sounds awesome

:flowerforyou: Grandmallie, warm lemon water sounds comforting and tasty…I drink 4 ounces of a warm B Vitamin beverage called Ionix Supreme in the morning but more liquid than that would be a problem for my 2 hour dog walk……I do most of my water drinking later in the day.

    Hi everyone,

Busy busy summer days, haven't had much time to write. Woke up to the sound of baby wrens squawking away with annoying little screeches, but they're so darned cute.

I've been canning beans and corn, today I have lots of watering to do and need to pick raspberries. The garden is producing like mad, I've been enjoying heaps of steamed fresh veggies, and grilled zuchhini. Yellow crookneck is my fave, so buttery tasting!

My "Phase 2" program is working well, I've lost 2 lbs and going for a 3rd this week. This phase includes working out on the track 5 days a week and keeping calories around 1350. Yesterday it was 1450, did lots of munching in the afternoon! When I get a good calorie burn my body says Eat. I'm trying to listen close and feed it well.

The weekend was fun, had friends over for a card party and BBQ, I made a fresh fruit tart with cantaloupe, cherries, oranges and blueberries, topped with a raspberry glaze. Heavenly!

Wishing everyone a wonderful summer day, it's gorgeous weather here.:glasses:

oh, I lost my last post. I didn't see the "continued at this topic" link. Oh well......

jodios - a good friend of mine lives in Hawaii and she's telling me all about the bad weather. Stay safe. Oh, we had another loss due to the water in the basement. Vince had a cardboard cutout of the M&M race car driver and that got ruined. Do hope you get to enjoy yourself. You know what they say "it's always darkest before the sun"

Polly - good for you recording EVERYTHING, even the bad. That helps so much. Someone (I don't remember who) once said on here that if you don't, you're only kidding yourself. Welcome to a great group

Helen - I know what you mean about being ready to get back home. I so enjoyed going to Europe, but, honestly, I was ready to come home and get back in my routine. I'm washing the darks from our trip right now. With all this rain and us being on a septic, I've been careful

Did an hour of Leslie Sansone 5 Mile Walk DVD today. Tomorrow is yoga and then deep water. One of the branches of the Y is closed due to water damage. Fortunately, that's not the branch that I go to very much, really not at all.

Brooke - thanks for the quote

I washed and am now letting the grapes that I'll take to senior bowling tomorrow dry.

Need to post this so that I have my place marked.

I got some over-ripe bananas yesterday. I think I'll go peel them and freeze them

I haven’t fallen off the earth, but this is my first chance to use my computer with electricity and wifi. I’m in the lovely Port of Cathalmet, Washington, this morning, and planning to head back up river toward home today. Everyone else is still sleeping, which is why I have the opportunity to post.

We’ve had a lovely trip so far. DS and DDIL are with us but we’ll be dropping them off in Ranier, OR, later today. We’ll have dinner together, and then they’re off to move cars around and take a bunch of their stuff away from our storage unit. Yay! We’re considering coming back here and rejoining our friends on the boating trip or just going on home. I’m presently in favor of going on home. I looked at the weather report and it isn’t pretty for tomorrow and the next few days.:noway:

Today is DS’s 38th birthday and I don’t have a gift for him, or even an idea. We did give him and DDIL a barbecue as a house-warming gift and I said housewarming and birthday at the time, but I’m not happy with that. Problem is that I don’t have any good ideas. I asked them for ideas for their birthdays. DDIL supplied a good one for herself, but DS couldn’t think of anything. I’m like that so I have sympathy but also no ideas.:grumble:

Next post will probably be from home. Have a great day and be happy.:flowerforyou:

    1. Log every bite
    2. Move more.

I know I sound like a broken record but I feel so blessed that I have this thread of lovely women to keep coming back to again and again! I love sharing my ups and downs with you all and hearing about your lives and offering my support and encouragement to all of you!! All of you keep me motivated! :flowerforyou: On that note, I'm happy to report that unofficially (it's not my weigh-in day til Thurs,), I'm a half pound shy of being at the weight I was before vacation!! NSV-Realized at the pool yesterday that I desperately need a smaller swimsuit. This one is very baggy now, although part of that is just being stretched out of shape from constant washing I'm sure. Started last year at the pool with a 2X, then down to a 16W, now hopefully a 14! I do have one pair of stretchy 14 jeans now. The nice thing about the job that I'm starting tomorrow, is that I can wear jeans. I just have to buy a few nice tops today. At least I'll get some walking in at the mall. Everything is going great right now but I've been kind of down the last few days. Not sure why. Maybe missing loved ones who left this world too soon or missing relationships that have fallen apart (esp. how things ended with my stepdaughter) but I know it's not healthy to dwell on past conflicts. Just putting one foot in front of the other and thanking God for all the good in my life. Hugs to all!

A little less humid here today. Tonight is the last of the July Tues. evening summer picnics..........and it's the big fundraiser for the scholarship fund. I'll pick up my 10 watermelons and head over there to start setting up about 3pm. Skipped zumba this am; my right calf is a bit sore and I know I'll be on my feet about 5-6hrs. this evening at the fundraiser.

Janie..........we are lifting the largest elephant (27,000lbs.) ever recorded at the gym.........."how many can you lift in 3 months?" is the contest..........I am in no way competing, just trying to get a few under my belt because it intrigues me (and I like saying it!!)......there are guys up in the 20's already. One woman (a friend) has 3 and she was on a heart transplant list a few years ago.........super remarkable recovery!!!! So proud of her!!!

Terri.........fires are so scary; stay out of harm's way

Vicki...........great work on your lab results!!!

Helen.............have a safe trip back to the states

    Katla........sounds like you're having a great time...

Jodios......hope sunny Hawaii actually gets sunny!!!

Hello to everyone else......Got to run, everyone have a great day!!!!

Hello to all: Not having to wear the sling as much and finally getting caught up on my transcription. DH is going to be out of town Thursday through Sunday and I am looking forward to a few days by myself. It will be quiet around the house with just me and the pets. My best friend is coming on Friday and we are going out to lunch and to see my horse. That will be a good day. It has been cooler here in SD and I have really enjoyed it. Just wish I had been able to ride my horse. Oh well time is passing and soon I will start PT and there will be an end in sight to this recovery. Been thinking about August goals already.

Liz - Enjoy all the time you can get with your sister.

Pat - I loved your philosopher post. It seemed to me to hit right on the button. Thanks.

Jodios- Hope Hawaiian weather improves for you.

Healing angels to those who need them and congratulations to all with victories. Sue in SD

Hello Ladies – well our heat wave has finally broken. Our air conditioner has been off for a week. Last night it got down to the 60’s so made for perfect sleeping weather. Had a wonderful weekend, spent the day at the beach on Saturday and on Sunday me and hubby went for brunch and then to a craft show.

Went overboard on Saturday, we went to Red Robin and I had the clams and fries, MFP had the calories at 1400 (for one meal!!), but that was the only day I went over the calorie goal. Otherwise, the week has been good on my step and workout goals. Hard to believe the month on July is nearly gone!!!

Today is a picture perfect day, would be a good day to play hooky from work.

 Heather – a possible recommendation for you while in Rome is Hostaria Antica Roma, you’d have to take a taxi but we’ve been there twice and it is one of my favorites. The owner is great and the food is wonderful. I will also have to try your recommendation of the zucchini muffins.
 Amanda – congratulations on the wonderful news of your daughter’s pregnancy.
 Rori – hope you are feeling better and getting your energy back.
 Sandy – I always try (key word is try) to get my workouts in before work. I like knowing that I have that under my belt and no matter what they day throws my way getting my workout is done.
 Janemartin – congratulations on hubby’s new job.
 Barbie – thanks so much for sharing your progress in pictures, you’ve made great strides in a years time!!! Beautiful picture of the lilly.
 Grandmallie – I know its hard not to get frustrated with the scale. I am in a similar boat. I feel I am doing everything right, but I am hardly getting any southern movement. Keep at it, one day at a time!!!
 Jodios – good luck in riding out the storm, hopefully you don’t get any damage.

    Be well,
    Suzy
