Lived most of my life up North (Northern Illinois) until about 6 years ago and then we moved down South to Georgia, but will always be "Pop" to me;) Still get funny looks every time I order one or say it to someone down here.

Soda is a drink made out of soda water. Pop is just a verb.

Moved to FL when I was 20 something-Soda

Now we live in NC-it's still Soda and will remain soda!

Our family does laugh at us! LOL

these maps should help answer your question, and put into perspective the distribution between pop, soda, and coke throughout the nation. there are lots of fun maps here too.

Not in Michigan! I think Minnesota too. But I guess anywhere you're on the border with another country you're kind of a mix. So I guess it makes sense that we might say some of the same things! It took me years to lose my accent. Everyone thought I was Canadian when I first left home.

I grew up calling it Coke. Didn't matter if it was Dr. Pepper, Pepsi, or Coca Cola. I never thought anything of it until I lived in Nebraska. I never lived down the "what kind of coke do y'all have?" The McDonald's drive through people are probably still laughing at me 8 years later...
