Can of juice or fizzy juice here.

A Glaswegian service user at work called it "Juice" & totally threw me  I'm from North East UK. We call it pop - & Tap water is Council pop!

Council pop? Is that sort of like....'poor man's pop'? 'Council' isn't used much as a term here in the states as it in the UK but I think I know what you mean.

Exactly. Same in Oklahoma. Its all coke.

Kentucky also... They are all coke. Then if someone wants one you ask what kind.

Obviously, it's pop. It was a rhetorical question.

When I lived in Western PA we called it "pop". "What kind of pop would you like?". In Eastern PA, though they called it "soda". Where I live now, we have such a mish-mash of folks from everywhere I just call it a "carbonated beverage".

I love that no matter what it is down south it's a coke!
  • The first time I heard a soft drink being referred to as a pop or soda was when I was 13 years old and visited West Virginia. My cousin asked me if I wanted a pop and I said, "Do you want me to pop you back?" then she laughed and said, "Do you want a soda?" I replied, "What's a soda?" She then asked me, "Do you want a drink?" I answered, "Sure, I'll take a drink." The cashier at the store said, "Child you are too young for a drink. We don't sell drinks to minors." I told him a drink in NC is a soft drink.

Surely I can't be the only person who calls everything "Coke." But for the sake of the thread, I say soda!
