Glo, no need to be humble. Strut that skinnier self on here!

Miriam, somehow I missed your post earlier. Congrats on facing your finances. I did it in 2008 when DH retired. Tracking finances works as great as tracking food. Awareness is powerful.

wootwoot! I have an NSV - I saw a pair of pants in my closet that twice I have lost enough weight to fit into. I took them off the hanger and thought "these are not going to fit me yet" but they did! Then I put on a top that I just loved and was the right colors - looked in the mirror and realized I was swimming in it. Took it off for the thrift store and tried on another top that had been too tight and it fit! So today I had a whole new outfit to wear. I am so proud of myself! (but I also want to be humble) Happy dance! happy-dance-smiley-emoticon.gif

Gloria, that has to be THE best feeling, Humble? Kick that to the curb lady. You do the happy dance for your bad little self. I'm doing it right here with you. Way to go.

Marcelyn – Black Licorice – or a colored vine? I too love black licorice and do have it from time to time – a piece or two is plenty for me, but if (when) I can find Black Licorice Ice Cream I am a goner!!!! I found it in the Wisconsin Dells in about 2000 and ate 4 scoops!

Black. And the best is Dutch or Australian salted licorice.

This morning I woke up kind of lousy. Feel better after having some good warm food. And the hot dog from Dairy Queen I craved so much because it is one of my comfort foods.....it was terrible! Of course by the time I got to eat it it was cold. I know it would have been easy to pop it in the microwave but after I got a good look at the actual hot dog, I think the microwave would have shrunk that poor dog even more. Hubby was having a real hard time in the bathroom and told me to just go get a carry out from DQ, the only thing he wanted was a blizzard. So while I was gone,he was raiding the fridge of all the leftovers. Well the tupperware top wasn't on good of one thing he was getting out. So he is pulling it out and it drop to the floor. It was pickled beets in the juice. So when I get home it looks like a crime scene. All this sticky red all over the floor, walls, inside the fridge. So we got it cleaned up, was a good opportunity for me to do some cleaning inside the fridge. While he was trying to use a paper towel on the beets, one slice went under the fridge so while he tried to get that he pulled off the little grill off the front. I guess that is one thing we have forgotten to take off and ever clean. Oh it was so nasty. I was trying to think of a quick way to get all the terrible amount of dust I thought of using my pressurized can of air. I did work and I think I used almost a whole can. So maybe all that is why that lousy hot dog tasted yucky. I guess I will now have to us Steak and Shake or GD Ritzy's for my hot dog since I do not want to be tempted by having hot dogs in my fridge.

Lenora, I loved your list. Some very wise statements there.

My DH sells Kemps black licorice ice cream to ice shops. Do you have any small tourist ice cream parlors where you live? If you do you could ask the manager to order you a 3 gallon tub for your freezer.

Gloria - awesome NSV! Congratulations! I am so happy for you.

Kim, I'd also be lost if I was ambushed by licorice ice cream, particularly salty licorice.

    Or not...
Mary, it's a great suggestion, but I think I'll steer clear by a w-i-d-e margin.

Lucky for me, most ice cream in Scandinavia is either too boring (like vanilla with strawberry jam ripple) or "pseudo-American" and far too sweet for me. Here in Stockholm I can get imported Ben & Jerry's and Häagen-Dazs but they're so pricey I can easily resist.

What I'd really like is some Baskin-Robbins pumpkin pie ice cream.

I'll soon be heading off to the University on my bike for the last time this visit. On my way home I'll stash my bike in the safe place at my old workplace and walk the rest of the way.

Husband arriving from Oslo this evening and tomorrow we'll see our daughter and her fiancé (unless he still has the flu) and then go visit our son and his family.

Gloria - That is sooooooooo brilliant! :drinker: I can remember keeping a pair of really slim trousers, "just in case" I ever got that low again. I didn't think I ever would. When I finally tried them on they were miles too big! You have done so well with that awful moving business. Humble? Shmumble!

I'm awake in the night. Norwegian rattling round my head. :noway:
But I was remembering how I felt when I was fat. I could hardly turn over in bed. If I got up in the night I was holding on to the furniture and door knobs just to get to the bathroom. I still hurt some nights, but I'm mobile. It's easy to forget how far I've come.

Bought my gorgeous DDIL her birthday present today. She wanted a posh brand of stripey t-shirt. Her birthday is after the baby is born. She asked for XS. She said she hopes she'll get back there. :noway: She is probably right. :) The family are going with her parents and her sister's family to Portugal for a week at the end of May. The parents are paying. I'm not sure if I would want to be taking all three children, including the new baby, on a plane, just 10 weeks after a Caesarean. The minute the baby is born they have got to get it a passport. Not quite sure how they are going to get a suitable photo. :noway: Oh well. Their whole project, with the house sale, the moving, my son's job prospects, the baby etc etc etc makes my head spin!
They have had 10 offers for theiir house, so it's gone to sealed bids. My son has his job interview with the board on Monday. He has to persuade them that they really, really need a brewery for their hotel brand. :ohwell:

    Love to all. Heather UK

Today I started out my wall pushups with one set of 10 at a counter. That was much more difficult than the wall - duh! Did 4X10 on the wall. Going to do 5 more sets before bed.

I had never heard of licorice ice cream until the summer I was 14 and went to Winnipeg with my mom to visit her parents. It was a favorite of one of my aunts.

Heather I have never heard anyone say they had distorted knees except me. I'm glad to know that others have the same disfiguring problem that I do. I have stretch pants that I won't wear because they show ever bulge in my poor knees. Hoping to be able to have knee surgery this summer. BYW I love the picture of you in your new dress - so cute and such a bright happy smile!

Hello, I'm brand new to MFP (3 days), and feel like I wanna lurk a little while I get my bearings. It feels rude to just lurk though, so Hi, my real name is Larisa, and I'll be over here in the corner.

Gloria- great job on the push-ups!

Heather - you have so much going on in your life no wonder you are awake in the middle of the night! I'm surprised they allow babies that young on planes.

Gloria - I have had trouble with my knees, especially the left, since I was 16, when it blew up like a football after doing the conga round the school.
I had many investigations over the years and no one could tell me the problem, apart from a tiny bit of uneven cartilage. Sometimes it woul just swell and get stiff. Very annoying as I like to dance.
When I moved down here 5 years ago I tried to do some over 60s aerobics and the ssme thing happened. I could hardly dtive home. I went to the sports phydio attached to the exercise centre. Paid for it. She was the first person to diagnose the trouble. My patella was not tracking properly in the groove. How many years had I never been told that by the medical profession?
Of course, by then my knee was all distorted and all my muscles were weak. :'(
It's taken years of work to get that better. Much improved, but I still have to be careful.

Well hello again ladies and I am very glad to say that. I got a virus on my computer that hijacked MFP and would not let me log on, log my food or exercise. It was malware version of DSNunlocker, very nasty thing. Tried to get rid of it with help from family but no go, finally had to take it in. It is so nice to have my computer back and be able to read about you ladies and chat again. It had to do with ads so I am tempted to go to the premium. Is anyone using it? Do you like it and feel it is worth the price?

Hi, i pay for the premium, i found the ads very distracting, i feel it is worth it.

a quick good morning before I dash off to the gym.. can ya believe I am saying that?
Joyce~ Tom likes hot dogs and I like them every once in awhile.. you can have hot dogs in the house.. I have bought applegate farms uncured turkey or beef hot dogs 50 calories a piece for turkey 70 calories a piece for all beef, and if im in the mood for a roll, I use a wrapthat I slice in half.. works well in the calories..
I have found if I set all my clothes out the night before I get up and get dressed and ready to go, I am having a quick cup of tea.. and then will go to gym, then take a shower there and then go feed DFIL then come home and take the dogs for a quick walk and then to work..

I know a couple of you listened to an episode or two of Desert Island Discs in the past. BBC Radio 4. This morning it was Hugh Bonneville, from Downton Abbey. If you do listen, be sure to know that a public school is a very expensive private school and that he lives not that far away from me.
The accent of the presenter, Kirsty Young, is Scottish.
I thoroughly enjoyed it, even though I don't watch Downton, as he is a national treasure.
    Hope you enjoy it! :flowerforyou:

Good morning - going back to the bento box discussion, I bought a reusable one with a chill pack on Amazon yesterday. I'm thinking about when I go back to work on the 14th. Then I looked up bento boxes on YouTube and there were some great ideas there...like little kebabs and pinwheels. I love the idea.

Today my husband is taking off and we are going to do some little adventure together. Maybe a trip into Boston or south to a casino. He said no to the museum of fine arts.

Have a great day. Will be back later.

Do you all use a food scale? I don't have one and was thinking of getting one. I "eyeball" my portions. I do use a measuring cup for the things I can.
Thanks for the comments about my pic. His name was Reagan - a Bernese Mountain Dog. He died last June at the young age of 5. I just can't change my picture yet. He was such a huge part of my life and I sure do miss him :(
As far as the discussion about cheating, I just log everything and try to make sure that I'm at a calorie deficit. If I eat something unhealthy or over my calorie limit, I try to go for a walk or do some exercise to make up for it.
I try to eat healthy, but I certainly do make other decisions... One day at a time!

Good morning and Happy Friday! Doing the Friday dance over here! Still have the cough, but I am definitely on the upswing!
DH not doing so well. He has had an upper respiratory thing for about three weeks, he finally got so bad that he felt he should go to the doc (this is after I had repeatedly told him he needed to go about a week ago!). Well, they had to put him on a steroid and nebulizer and sent him to the hosp for chest x-rays. Yup...pneumonia! He has always had a poor immune system; but he was diagnosed with early onset RA last spring and they warned him that the drugs to help that were going to lower his immune system even more. It seems like he has been sick all year. He is NOT a good patient, either. Oh well...I just need to focus on getting him up and moving and well again, so I can get him out from under my feet! He's a good man; but sometimes I want to kill him ;)

NSV- What is this? New Standard Version? Never Share Viruses? North Shore Vacation? lol I can't figure this one out!

Larisa the Lurker- giggle Welcome new girl! Lurk away! Join in when you are ready!

Sue- LOL! I wasn't aware there was a "premium" offer to MFP! I just use the non-paying version. My hubby is a tech guru and he sets up my computer with the protection; but he warns me every time not to play a lot of the games, tests, or share/click on meme's etc. that are found on sites like facebook. I guess they are popular for virus spreading. I have gotten some nasty "worms" and viruses in years past, but he has managed to get rid of them all. I also have no ads at all on my sites anymore. I think Tim used something different to block everything. I will see what he used. I am sure it is free, because we try not to spend where we don't have to.

Gloria- Yea for the new clothes! My daughter left me a couple pairs of her jeans that were too big for her when she lost weight for her wedding last summer. They are my goal jeans. I am a couple sizes away... Enjoy your free time this weekend!

Allie- You sure do pack a LOT of stuff into your days! I envy your energy levels!

Marcelyn- I LOVE salted Dutch licorice! My dad introduced me to that when I was little and I think he was more than happy when I liked it, as none of my sibs did/do.

Penny- Huh! Never thought about the ice cream dilemma in other countries...I am not a big ice cream eater, anyway. Is European ice cream more like gelato? Sounds like you have some busy days ahead with your family! Hope every one is well and safe travels as you/they visit!

Navybrat822- Thanks for the heads up on the blog! Good stuff!

Beth- Where are you, friend? I may have to hunt you down! Hope all is well! Anyone, seen Beth?
