Alison: Thanks for sharing the good news about Charlie. I'm sure Joyce will be happy that you let us know.1

Katla on Sylvia - Thank you, thank, thank you. So relieved that Sylvia is well and busy. Thank you for sharing.
Janetr okc0 -
Glad to hear from Sylvia and Charlie. I am so sorry about Jake's daughter, Michelle's tumor, and Becca's husband's issues.
Welcome to the newbs!
Re the assisted pull-up machine, when I started I couldn't do one on the highest weight, now I can do one by myself and ten if someone assists just a little. My goal is to do ten by myself. I don't care where i have to set the weight. That thing is hard! We also use that machine to work the glutes by pushing it all the way to the floor stepping one foot off, leaning in to the machine and raising and lowering one leg at a time.
It was raining here this morning. Dave didn't want to walk in the rain so we went to the Mall of Georgia. He walked for two hours, I bought new bras and panties in smaller sizes because mine were too big and then joined him walking for the last hour. He bought a new tee shirt that says "Batman for President" and I got a new case for my phone. It was a good day.
My friend at the gym met her 90-lb weight loss goal today. She looks fantastic. She's the one who gave me her XL purple camouflage workout pants because they were too big for her. She is my inspiration (along with all of you).

I'm glad to hear good reports bout Charlie (and Joyce) and also that Sylvia is still doing well.2

Joyce, Becca, Michele NC - Sorry to hear about the medical challenges you or your loved ones are facing. You're in my thoughts and prayers.
Barbie - My condolences to you and your hubby.
I'm so glad my work week is over its been a week from HE double hockey sticks! Here's hoping I don't get called in on the weekend. I've missed both evenings of Tai Chi this week but I'm determined to make it tonight.
Wishing everyone an enjoyable weekend.

I am exhausted. Got about two hours of sleep last night due to torrential rains and then the raucous caused by the stupid frogs. All night long, ribbet ribbet ribbet. Then I got up this morning and saw all the sod laid by the homeowners association washed downstream and was blocking my culvert so I spent the morning up to my knees in water digging out the sod and trying to clear the culvert. It started to rain about noon time and we got 12 inches. That makes over 20 inches in two days. The water was everywhere and my yard was about six inches deep with it. Several trees in the neighborhood went down because the ground is so saturated. That's one of my worries as I have about 25 - 30 trees. All big trees and I sure don't want one on my house. My husband was in Colorado for business and they diverted his flight home to Corpus Christi and then San Antonio. Once off the plane in SA he headed to the car rental and is driving home. The problem is almost all the roads to our area are closed for flooding. It's just crazy. CRAZY. And tonight I'm putting in earphones and blocking out the dumb frogs.
And no time to practice that cello. I feel like I failed but I just don't have the energy to do it tonight. Tomorrow I will start with it.

Well hello guys. I had tried in the surgery waiting room and MFP would only load half way. Here in his room it is fine. I hank Allison for delivering my message. She is in Facebook and saw my general message. Every thing went fine. His only complaint is gas build up ad I don't know if that is a phantom pain or not. His throat doesn't feel good from the tube. I did get quite a scare. The person they the desk came and asked if my name was Joyce and to follow her. As I went down the hall I heard a man making such a raucous and they wanted his wife to speak soothingly to him. As I got closer I saw a teddy bare and hair on his head. This guy was so restless and combative they had 4 people trying to hold him down. So I just told them that guy was not my husband but good luck. So then I saw another lady called back. Her name was Joyce Trimmel instead of Kimmel. We will be going home soon. Long day but had a steady flow of visitors in surgery lounge.
Be careful so sorry for your hubbies problems. I know you have spoken so much of how the transplant changed his life. I hope they can resolve this fairly easily.
Love, love,love you guys. Joyce, indiana4 -
Joyce, such wonderful news. God is good. How long will he have to stay in the hospital? ((hugs)))

Barbie ... Hugs to you and Jake.
Joyce ... So glad to hear that surgery went well!
[Becca ... Continuing prayers for your husband.
Rosie ... Beautiful daughter!
Michele ... Sending healing prayers your way.
A long day today, but productive. So much work needs done around the house and outside. Everywhere I turn, there is something that needs done! Husband has significant back and pain issues and confessed to me tonight that he's just given up. Which I suspected. We are sitting down tomorrow and mapping out a plan ... Both son and husband became upset when they realized I was outside in the heat trying to clean up flower beds that have gotten out of control. On the upside... I burned a lot of calories!

I finally got my nails done today and they were backed up at the salon. It took me two days to get an appointment which is unusual. Tomorrow morning DH and I are going to hit a few garage sales as the next neighborhood is having a community sale. That is if it’s not raining yet. The rest of the weekend I’ll try to get ready for our garage sale. I’m sending hugs and prayers to all that need them.
I hope all of you have a safe, healthy and happy Memorial Day Weekend.
Words I live by:

Happy day in Virginia. Firetruck ride home for my grandchildren Griffin and Jillian! Griffin's birthday present which he gladly shared with his sister.

Hi friends and welcome newbies.
Deep thanks from the bottom of my heart for your warm thoughts and prayers going up for my brother. He’s doing well on his journey, a day at a time. He swears the episode has left him ‘scared sober’. He never asks me for any help whatsoever, so when he asked if I could cover a new gym membership for 6 months, I didn’t hesitate. I’d be so delighted if he fell in love with exercise, yoga and the wellness his gym offers.
Peach: In moral support of my brother, I quit drinking a week ago. I’ve decided my nightly beverage will now be kombucha, the fermented drink that improves gut health and provides many other benefits. Some flavors are bitter, but I’ve found a few I really like. I think Margaret Turk was making this awhile back. Is anyone else a fan?
Kim: I will for sure contact you next time I go visit Alameda. Thank you so much for the kind offer of a room and airport pickup!
Pip: A bit belated….happy birthday. Wishing you many smooth miles of windless riding.
Katla: Your husband’s solution to the barking dog next door is brilliant. I wonder how I could make something like that work to influence my upstairs neighbors?
Joyce, Becca, CJ and Barbie: I’m holding your DHs in my prayers. Big hugs to you all.
Michele: Hope you can get that inner ear tumor taken out swiftly and easily.
Rosie: Your daughter is gorgeous. How did she do her hair like that? Thanks for the pix.
Marcelyn: Worried for you and your home. Situation sounds serious. Hope your DH makes it home alright. Do take care.
DJ: I see on the news some severe weather headed your way, too. Bummers.
This is my last week of three weeks off from work. Emotionally, I went from one end of the spectrum to the other. Maui was fabulous. Somewhere in a beach park I lost my Fitbit, and have to say I didn’t care! I learned what I needed to from wearing it faithfully for 3 months. Then, there was the stress of overseeing work on the Honolulu condo, but that became so trivial in comparison to being beside my brother in the ICU. We'll resume that project in September when my tenant returns from his travel.
Unless I totally blow it this weekend, it looks like I will end this month with a 2+ pound loss. It’s good to be home, and back in the loop with all of you.
Stay well, friends. We can do this.

Hello Ladies! Well, after being MIA for a couple of months, I’m trying to catch up on a few posts. Glad to hear that Charlie’s surgery went well. Hoping we hear good news from Becca as well.
I quote “graduated” from the wellness program I’ve been doing for the past three months. I have not lost as much as I would have liked, but I’ve learned a ton. We did a biometric screening at the beginning and ending of the program. Outside of my body fat percentage, my numbers were all in normal ranges at the beginning of the program. But, after twelve weeks, I was still able to lower my blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, and resting heart rate. So, I count that as success. I also did a metabolic assessment at the gym that sponsored the program and provided us with a free membership for the length of the program. Basically, that means they strapped a breathing mask on me and measured both my heart rate and oxygen consumption while I was on a treadmill. From that, they put together a customized program of interval training getting me into different heart rate zones throughout the week. I’ve been doing that for four weeks now and really feel like I am improving my cardiovascular health. The gym I am at is great, but it is quite expensive. So, when my free membership runs out, I will probably have my husband add me to his gym membership. Not quite as fancy, but less expensive and closer to home.
Anyway, will try to share some of what I learned with everyone here. But for now, I’m headed to bed. Thinking I will get up and do an aqua class in the morning. (Oh and Becca… Whenever I am in the gym locker room and I see the young girls walking around in almost nothing, I try to channel my inner Becca and just be proud of the body I live in!)
Even when I'm not posting, I think of all of you on this thread daily. You are all my inspiration!
Linda/IA3 -
Did an hour on the rebounder today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Power Circuit Training with Jackie DVD.
Becca - what can I say? My heart goes out to you and hubby, will be praying for you both.
Vince went to put Rover in the pool and he saw a SNAKE!!!! Thank goodness I didn't see it, I hate snakes. So we went to Lowe's Hardware and bought this snake repellent stuff which Vince put down. I made these chocolate covered strawberries for a gal who we play mah jongg with on Mondays. I know that she's working out and trying to watch what she's eating so that's why I made the strawberries. Then we blew up the new raft for the pool for me (the other one must have had a slow leak in it). This one's different from the other one, not as wide.
then, of course, I HAD to go in the pool. The keep-Coppertone-in-business season has started! Came in and had dinner, now on here. Jess is supposed to be here tonight, she has to get new brakes tomorrow and take Shadow (cat) to the vet. We'll take Loki too to get his phenobarbitol level taken. Depending on how it is, we may want to lower the dosage. I almost forgot to put the bedspread on the bed in the back bedroom!
Sunny - loved all the pics. Your daughter has your eyes. She's so lovely
Sarah - everyone is more than welcome! Congrats on the weight loss. Just keep coming here for inspiration and I know you'll lose the rest
KJ - I remember when I was taking a class at the university where we lived one of the things we had to do was a completely unassisted pull up. I hurt my chest. Well, I'm not as young as most everyone else in the class. Boy, did that hurt for a while! Good for you getting to where you could do them
]bix - welcome! It's best to set small goals at first so you don't get discouraged. Good for you!
Karen in VA - thanks for asking about the tumor. The doc said that in almost all of the cases, it's begnine. He does want me to see an (I don't know how to spell it) onthologist. I do have diminished hearing in one ear. The doc said that he thinks it's (I would never have thought of this) due to the impact when I fell having the seizure. But then again....has this tumor been there all along and just now is growing? They at Wake Forest will determine if I should have some corrective measure taken now or wait. You're right, I AM too busy to be sick....lol
Rosie, Carol, DeeDee, and anyone else in SC or NC - hope the storm doesn't impact you too much. By the time it gets to us, we'll probably just get a rain shower, if that much. We're so far inland.
Have a turkey breast in the crockpot right now that I'm cooking
katla - thanks so much for the update about Sylvia. I'm so glad she's OK. I was so worried.
Pam - that is so wonderful of you to give your platelets
Texted Jess to ask her to pick up this dishdrainer for me. I think it will work. I am willing to bet any amount of $$ that she doesn't get it before she leaves. For the wedding I asked her if there was anyone I could borrow a white sweater from -- she never got to it. I asked her to give me one of the cardboard things that you put the cake on -- never gave it to me. Oh well..... these are things that I can live with. I just bought myself a white sweater and I'll probably make some sort of base for the cake, and I certainly can wait on the dishdrainer.
Alison - thanks for telling us about Joyce's hubby. I'm so relieved
Marcelyn - you AREN'T a failure. I'm so impressed that you're learning the cello. Now for me. Well...I feel like a failure. when I was making those chocolate covered strawberries, I had some (a little too much) of the white chocolate. Now I feel so horrible (in the stomach).
Beth - (((HUG)))
DJ - the specialist will be the one who makes the determination if we need to do surgery (or whatever the course of treatment will be) or just take a wait-and-see approach.
DJ - there is this one house near here that has this BIG probably plastic lighthouse. It must be about 4 or 5 feet tall. I love it. I told Vince today that if they ever put up a sign that they're having a garage sale, I'll be right there asking them "are you selling that lighthouse?"
Rori - tell me more about this kombucha. Is it a tea? How do you buy it? We're so glad you're back
Michele in NC2 -
I've never been on a support community like this before so please be patient with me as I get the hang of it. Today was such a difficult day as it is my Dad's birthday and we lost him last December. Sooo hard to loose him and we miss him dearly!!!!
On top of that emotional day, work was very stressful and busy so no time to eat after breakfast and no time for exercise. Just stuck at my computer all day long and on conference calls! Tonight hubby and I went to a cooking class offered by a local chef. Turned out it was good that I saved my calorie allotment for dinner because it was a 3 course dinner with wine... probably enough calories for the whole day in that one meal and I didn't even it it all!!!

Rori I looked into making Kombucha because it is on the pricey side. Have yet to make my own. I have been drinking it for about a year and I think it does help keep my healthy. Despite a very stressful year I have not have a cold or the flu. Kombucha is a fermented tea. I like the gingerberry version. I drink a small glass at breakfast and dinner. I also eat non-sugared yogurt mixed with fruit and non sweetened jam.
Barbie sorry about Jake's daughter.
Michelle healing thoughts.
DH treatment for kidney cancer is did not make an improvement this time. He is no better or worse. They will not remove the infected kidney until more progress is made. At least he is feeling better and can do most of what he used to do.

Had to restart my phone to get connected to the phone signal. Grrrrrrrrrr! It was out for ages last night. At least with wifi I know I wasn't the only one affected. It seemed to be pretty much country wide.
Rori - Happy that you have time to post and that your brother is doing better.
Marcelyn - The flooding sounds terrible!
Beth - You have so much to deal with. I hope you are asking for help! Can your church come over to do a bit of gardening etc?
Joyce - I'm so relieved that the surgery went well.
Margaret - Kidney troubles are so debilitating. My ex, the one in the old wedding photo, has kidney cancer. It makes him tired, but he is coping ok. It is supposed to be a slow growing form. :ohwell: Hugs for you as you cope with that and your son's troubles.
CJ - I haven't forgotten about you. Think of you often. Sending love and hugs.
I'm awake early AGAIN, but happy and grateful. The sun is shining. We didn't manage to catch next door before they went away, but we can put a note and money through the door. We want the 12 year old to water our outside pots while we are away.
I will ask the cleaner to water the vegetable garden once a week if it doesn't rain. If it all dies, too bad.
One week to go until our cruise. I will start putting the Arctic clothes in a suitcase. We are taking an extra one for all that stuff, including walking boots etc. My brother, who was here yesterday, said he never does the formal evenings on his cruises and hates them. I know DH is really worried about it. Oh well. I can always go on my own. Not packing those dresses for nothing. :noway:
Hoping to hear from Becca soon.
Love Heather UK1 -
My son's potential adoption dog has had a long operation and is on an antibiotic drip. Even with a top class surgeon she may not make it. Her name is Flo. Her sister Hazel is still at the kennel for company. They don't want her to go to his house on her own. This is my elder son's first attempt to have any kind of pet and he has been preparing for it for months and bonding with them.
My son has suffered from severe depression, so this was quite a big step for him. He lives alone. So sorry for him.
Love you all. Heather UK3 -

I hope everything turns out ok for Flo. As a person who has suffered from depression a pet can be so amazing. Unconditional love can be a great thing for a person who is suffering from depression. It can be the thing that makes your day worth it.

joyce Hoping Charlie has a good recovery day. Alison Thanks for the news.
Becca Know you are dealing with potentially difficult news from the transplant team, thinking of you.
CJ and Sue in WA LOVE your horse avatars. Are they friends of yours? I rode when I was a girl.
Charleen in Colorado Kudos for loose jeans! And yay for being so wonderfully thoughtful of the big sister with your quilt project.

Carol NC Enjoy your time with your mom next weekend! My mom was my best friend. She died 15 years ago and I miss her every single day.
Michele NC Glad you are getting that tumor evaluated at reputable Wake Forest. Two thumbs up!
Kayla in Oregon and Pip Sailing RV and Ocean Cabin both sound fab!
Heather UK I will keep your son's greyhound in my thoughts and prayers. I hope she recovers.
karenleona What's up? Spill the beans, this is the place to do it.
Linda IA Congrats on graduating Wellness Program. Sounds very positive.
Rori Colorado Foothills I have a friend who makes Kombucha. She loves it and says once you get the hang of it, it isn't difficult to make.
DJ Enjoy your garage sale weekend! I love garage sales but I am trying to go "pup tent" so I stay away lest I buy something.
Beth near Buffalo Your words resonated with me. Everywhere I turn I see something that needs to be done. Trying to get rid of my own stuff plus the stuff I inherited when my family members died or were institutionalized is overwhelming. Not to mention day-to-day chores, plus work. I just don't want my son or anyone else to have to deal with it. Ugh.
Marcelyn in Houston Yikes! The flooding and frogs are too much to deal with. Maybe if you serenade the frogs with your cello they will take a break. Probably too much to hope for to wish that the water would recede, too.
Carey Northern Alberta Hoping you are getting a break from your week from hell. Ugh.
Lenora Fresh blueberries! YUM!
Cheri I live near Midlothian. I think Sheltering Arms on Hull Street Road is a good PT place and Ortho VA or Advanced Ortho are good orthopedists, but I am sure your daughter will get a recommendation from her Chicago doctors.
Gloria in WA Hope we see some pics of GS#2 in his headband. One of you, too? Woof, woof! Meow!
Carol/Peach Hope granddaughter w/strep is bouncing back!
nanalisax3 Granddaughter teaching you how to ride is adorable.

Sending my warmest thoughts to those of you who have not.

My last course of the Spring term is now over. They were a strange group, those PhD students. They asked lots of pertinent and intelligent questions - which is always great - but something in the group dynamics meant that they sucked every particle of energy out of me and didn't give anything in return.
It's amazing how different the atmosphere can be in different groups. A couple years ago I was teaching a day class Monday through Friday and evening classes Tuesday and Thursday the same week. The day classes left me totally drained, but the moment the students arrived for the evening sessions I perked up, and by the end of class I felt I could continue for a couple more hours. All the energy I expended on them, they fed back to me, with interest. No such luck with the group I've been teaching this week.
My husband arrived in Stockholm yesterday. It's pretty much by coincidence we are both here at the same time; he had to attend a meeting "in the south" and couldn't get back home until Sunday, so he popped over here for the weekend and has booked his return home on the same flight as me. Today we'll be having dinner with our daughter and her fiancé, and tomorrow we'll hook up with our son and his family.
Now that I don't have to think about teaching for several months, I can focus on much more entertaining things: the Spitsbergen half-marathon this coming Saturday, and Heather's visit the following Friday. I soon hope to be able to get back in the swing of reading and posting and interacting with all you lovely ladies :flowerforyou: I feel a bit bad about lurking and not having contributed for such a long time.
/Penny, soon heading home to the
