Attacked for an opinion

My guess is that you weren't in fact attacked but that your opinion of one of these types of products was shot down...because again, it's not really a matter of opinion when it comes to these sham products.

And it's always folks who have just signed up. It's like they have no where in the world to go but MFP to ask for approval on cleanses, herbalife, garcina cambogia, fat burners, etc. And then when you don't approve, they get angry.
It also seems like some people are completely new to internet forums. It should be mandatory to spend one month on Reddit before being allowed to post here. (Not really, but I think people would appreciate the MFP forums more if they saw the contrast between here and other places.)11 -
I can only safely say...its not about you.

@melltrembley I hear what you are saying and agree that you got very negative responses. I think a lot of people did not bother to "listen" to you. Even on the internet people are composing a response before the originator is finished.
There is a lot of support on MFP, I read it in threads all the time. I usually click out of the supportive threads because I can only take so much sweetness in one day. But there is also lots of lively and heated discussion, which in this case centered on your response. Just blow it off an move on.0 -

Not tried that one. If I need a bit of light relief, I usually have a look at mumsnet.com - there are some stonking arguments on there. And the baby name threads are hilarious.2 -
I always wonder what the OP of these types of threads hopes to accomplish. Because to me, it's like painting a bullseye on your forehead and saying "take a shot:". *shrug* What do I know?5

Pointing out outright contradictions is attacking? Pointing out that (at the time) the only positive review was from someone that has a financial benefit (in the form of a discount, at least) from the company doing well is attacking?5

I think MLM salespeople get a combination of plenty of sunshine and rainbows from the MLM companies and polite avoidance from their friends IRL, so they aren't accustomed to hearing blunt, unvarnished truth. As a result, I think OP and others honestly believe we are all being "mean" and think this will change the dynamic. Call it naivety.
Just my 2 cents14 -

So out of curiosity I popped in there just now and the very first thread I saw was about alternative uses for breast milk. Did you know it's good for- curing pink eye and ear infections (just pour it right in!)
- unplugging sinuses (all Baby needs is a drop up each nostril!)
- making cheese
- potentially curing cancer
Why is there no MLM program harnessing the properties of liquid gold??8 -

You have to remember this is the internet. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
People are conned daily, by gimmicks, quick fixes, bogus products etc, etc, etc.
Sometimes, for those of us that have been here for a long time, these subjects get very repetitive. For the most part, people here are extremely supportive and understanding, because, let's face it, many of us have had the same questions.
There are no quick fixes, magic pills or potions, tortuous under garments etc.
The old saying "a fool and his money are soon parted" is true when it comes to weight loss.
Less calories in than calories out = weight loss.5 -

I just have to tell you, every time I see your username I read it as Butt_Hurtz and that along with your current photo is just killing me! Is that intentional, or is it just me?11 -

Omg. That how I have been reading it.1 -
I want everyone here to succeed. But when people say ridiculous things about cleanses, or detoxes, or raspberry ketones, or weight loss pills, or "CICO didn't work for me," they are encouraging failure.
Maybe they're not lying on purpose, but they are actively harming through their own selfish ignorance the unsuspecting beginner who hasn't yet learned better.
So a little bit of piling-on is entirely appropriate, IMO.

For the most part, I really enjoy MFP and all the support most give; the last place I expected to be attacked for expressing my feelings.
I'm not sure I will post my opinion again due to this experience...as it was brutal. I have always been told I am a very kind person and I guess I do not understand why I was being attacked. Anyone have the same experience?
You might be better off staying off the boards unless you can learn to take stuff like this in stride. It's not uncommon.5 -

One mandatory month on reddit: cruel and unusual punishment.4 -

Why not share a link to the original thread where this incident took place? That could help people understand what went down.1

I stopped my bourbon cleanse to get in on this thread...14

I read his original post, he was pushing anything, he was just offering an opinion. It's up to people to take it or leave. I don't use products because I know that they don't work.
That stuff works for him and he likes it. So be it. Next!!!1 -
Please excuse my ignorance, but what does MLM mean?0
